Welding- if done properly is good. But it is not so popular nowadays as it is somewhat complicated process. Crimping or shear bolt connectors are much simpler and good solutions.

You are talking about conductor welding is need very skilled job, some kit manufacturers not recommended this process because cable is over heated at the time of welding, which can cause of cable/kit failure
