The cable for the screen is misprinted. From closed to open is properly pressed

very interesting but may i know why is a cable termination required? aren't all cables supposed to connect things together?

Hi Jackson, for medium and high voltage underground cables (typically 11kV and above), cable terminations are required to control the electrical stress in the cable at the termination point. There are various types of terminations available for medium and high voltage underground cables to suit different types of switchgear and transformer bushings - the Raychem RPIT plug-in termination is one such termination and is used for terminating 11kV to 33kV cables to switchgear with plug-in type bushings.

The cable "terminates" where it connects to the thing.

Do they make a cold-shrink boot for these nowadays?

The Raychem RPIT termination is a cold applied plug in termination - no heat is required for the actual cable termination.
A heatshrink sealing sleeve is provided to seal the cable entry onto the cable itself. The heatshrink sealing sleeve is still recommended for this due to the size difference between the cable entry and the cable.
The heatshrink sleeve will set in place once it cools, a cold shrink sleeve will continue to try to shrink and could work its way off of the cable entry onto the cable. Hope this helps!

Should have just propped it up on some chopsticks.
If it's over 3.3kV, be sure to use clean chopsticks.

True. For over 20 kV, preferably use plastic chopsticks.

This is an over engineered and expensive option to existing technology that has been used in the USA for decades. What they don't show in the video is the other half of the termination that needs to be part of the switchgear or transformer you are connecting to. That component would need to be installed by the switchgear or transformer manufacturer again in place of bushings that have been the standard in the USA for decades. This too is expensive and would add cost to what is standard equipment for a redesign.

Thanks for your feedback, Jim. In Australia some MV switchgear types are supplied with plug-in type bushings which require plug-in type terminations, All Round Supplies stocks a full range of termination options for various bushing types.
The plug-in termination is only one type of termination in our range, other termination types include moulded elbow terminations for type A, type B and type C profile bushings, heatshrink terminations for air boxes and pole top applications, and cold applied terminations for air boxes and pole top applications.
