    Great stove, easy and cheap to build. Awesome amount of free heat from this waste oil and wood burning stove heater. Step by step 7 part video guide to Ozzirt style burner. THIS WORKS! unbelievably well by just converting a propane tank. It produces tons of heat output and burns cleanly. Clear instructions with measurements, tips and full description of the build given from start to finish of the project.

      Hi Pat. I just use 1 inch Malleable iron pipe. Plumbers call it gun barrel or GB pipe. copper pipe inside to protect the oil from burning. You can buy stove glass too if that suits. I used stove glass in my latest minion stove. Cheers Gerry

    Really well done and an awsome build Gerry. If you weld some 4" (10cm) tubes through the top or wrap them around the top. Then you can put a fan behind them and blow air through them. My dad used to work in a two bay garage up north in the states when I was a kid. That stove got that two bay garage so hot we would have to strip down to our T-Shirts in the middle of winter. Keep up the good work. Keith

  • @GerrysDiy
    @GerrysDiy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Jeffrey. I have seen designs where there is a tank that is filled at the bottom for a days burn before lighting their stove and it looks like it burns well. With my design of stove here and the Ozzirt burner I use in it I dont' see how I could attach or install a tank inside this stove. In my newer videos I designed a different burner which is smaller and fits in the burn chamber so it might be possible with some changes to the propane tank. Here's a link to the new burner th-cam.com/video/lU93mSoaJEk/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps Cheers Gerry

    Excellent set-up! I particularly like your innovative use of the Pyrex dish. It's both handy to see the flame and one of the nice things about having a fire.
    The crackling sound is water in your oil. That will reduce your heat output... if it matters at all. Dry oil does work a LOT better in these burners. If you were interested in efficiency at all, you could run your Chimney pipe horizontal for a good few feet before ducting it out. You would find there is a lot of heat coming off that which would now be wasted. If you also had a small fan blowing along it, the heat would be better dispersed around the area you are heating.
    Congrats on a job very well done with this. It's definitely the neatest and most innovative burner of it's type I have seen. You have thought it through very well and come up with a great set-up. Great explanation and who doesn't love an Irish Accent!
    Well done to you Sir!

      Hi Glumpy10. The first section of flue had a second internal wall but I removed it so as to emit more heat. The single wall cladding on my shed really needs to be insulated so that the heat stays around longer, another to do for the long list. Thanks for the comments Cheers Gerry

    I am the Canadian viewer and they area I am in it’s nothing to get down 45/ to 50 below zero So maybe I can retire my two wood-burning stove’s call and use this idea instead to keep this shop that’s 40 x 20 warm And cut down the amount of wood used was going to make a rocket mass heater might just still do that Not sure yet but definitely going to make waste oil burner try it out and let you know how it goes thanks again

    What stops it from burning back up the drip tube to the feed bucket????

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi outdoorzone Where the tube goes into the stove is a low pressure point and the stove actually sucks air at that point which helps keep the oil cool. A metered pump system would work better but this drip feed system is so simple to construct. Hope this helps Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry 👍

    Where did you get your glass for the door

  • @OP360communication
    @OP360communication 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hi,
    what a great job you did !
    i saw that the top of the burner has holes, so, why didn't you keep a secondary air intake (on the door with the glass).
    by doing this you could achieve the pyrolysis of the oil burning almost everything from the wasted oil.
    another thought that i have is if the flame temperature is above 900 degrees centigrade you could add a pipe in the top center of the burner to feed the fire with.. water ! so it will happened the cracking of water producing hydrogen and oxygen.
    regards

    I like to see when someone have a will to twist the sleeves and get on doing something useful. As oppose, dumping the oil on the land.
    I am more of a biomass/waste wood guy. Never the less, I tend to use waste oil here and there. And one of my projects for the customer consists of combining waste wood and waste oil burner inside of a modified rocket stove heater. Be free to check it out...

      ceramic/enamel paint is what I was thinking as well, but doesn't the ceramic paint for manifolds act as an insulator? I think it prevents heat from going in the engine bay. might be a little counter intuitive? I might be wrong though.

    When you say "waste oil" are you meaning veg cooking oil?
    Also have you ever built any very very small units?
    I'm building a caravan styled to look like a 1930s bullet train and want to fit it with a waste veg oil burner or a small rocket stove. I was thinking that I would probably need to use a fan forced oil burner because I will not have room for such a large fire and a small fire and flue just does not suck much air.

    Well done. However, beware of the Pyrex dish, they are great unless they experience thermal shock. I had one explode all over my kitchen recently after I accidentally turned on the electric burner it was sitting on. I moved it to cool on a piece of cardboard and a few minutes later POP! Hundreds of glass shards everywhere.

    Instead of paint wire brush loose rust then light fire a heat up to about 300f then hold a piece of brisket fat with a towel so your not burned and rub the fat on the metal to season it as you would season cast iron cookware . Maybe build a smaller burner to to use less oil/fuel and keep temp around 600f. That's plenty temp to warm garage. But do try fat to season body of stove, should have a nice shiny black finish

    Fantastic design but it's getting too hot, try to build a smaller chamber, most people build way too big. If it destroys paint then try making the burner chamber smaller, unless it's for melting metal.

    what is stopping the oil from burning back up the tube and setting the oil container alightI work on gas boilers which use thermo couples, rectifiers for flame sensing , temp sensors to control heat, limit stats to prevent over heating but you have nothing to shut this thing down automatically when you are not around dangerous.

    Sorry if this has been asked before, but why is it that the oil can simply be poured in like that without the risk of the combustion back tracking up the line? Is it simply a matter of the temperature at which it must be to ignite? Thanks so much.

I had the stove over 700 tonight and it was glowing cherry red. I took some video so might post it tomorrow. Thanks for the comments . I tried one of my burners in my house with my boiler stove and you can check it out here goo.gl/gzGLrG Cheers Gerry 👍

    you dont need paint,just warm it up on high temp and spray some used motor oil over the body...the stove will be blued just like a gun

    Have you tried a blue flame waste oil burner against a the regular waste oil burner for a heat comparison Gerry ?

    That stove is a work of art!
    How much oil does it use?

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Vince. It works as a solid fuel stove too and will burn waste veggie oil all day long as well. About 1 us gallon per hr is the smokeless fuel rate. If you pile on the oil it will smoke but if you need higher output you just need to add more oil and increase the air supply in the secondary burn chamber. Cheers

      @VinceVoyeur1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Do you get much odour from it when using it, or are there few fumes?

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Vince. There's no smoke from the chimney once you get the fuel mix right. The black paint was only put on the stove minutes before the video so it needed to cure. In operation there is zero smoke or fumes from the stove inside the shed either. Before I painted the stove black the original paint on the propane tank needed to be removed so I just lit the fire and it softened it so i could just peel it off with a scraper. I showed the original paint being removed in this video with lots of heat and smoke.

    I imagine once it's up to temp even water in the oil mix wouldn't be an issue just vaporise and rise off.

    to get more heat and use less oil, add a 2nd tube with a water drip. will get a big flare up with each drip of water..

    do you think it would be a good idea to weld a metal bucket on the side of something like this an pour the oil in it? it would get heated and gravity feed all in one.

      Hi Brett. Works great and I only broke 1 when I didn't allow enough room for the door to expand. Heat was never a problem even with the flame on the glass. I have lots of videos now but if you are going for a non powered version I use my new burner on all the stoves. Here's a prototype that's quick to make before making it in steel th-cam.com/video/hw3v2gN_sLk/w-d-xo.html. Lots of other burners and stoves in this list . th-cam.com/play/PLmQ5wJnkAIoJYDBgSOis9s1yDhcFdswtN.html Hope this helps Cheers Gerry

    • @GerrysDiy
      @GerrysDiy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Stv45. It would certainly heat a pool. I used the same amount of oil and the same burner in a boiler video I made and it was able to heat 300 litres of water in an hour an make it turn to steam. I had a newer burner heating my house with vegetable oil. here's a couple of links

    I had a great waste oil burner (actually it was on old "Smudge Pot" it would run for about 24 hours full blast...amazing heat.... the only problem I had was shutting it down.
    It would smoke for about 15 minutes...and I could never figure out a good way to stop that (and the waste veggie oil smoke is very irritating !)
