Used to work the Freedom out of 22nd street in San Pedro....yellowtail machine. Nice firecracker yellow. Was that a Newell Matt was using? Love that reel. If you want to fish from Los Angeles South, 976.tuna is the go to for info. Uses to be run out of a newspaper and then he started the site.

I'm surprised that no one you through lead jigs or Rapala"s. Those Yellowtail will be under those Dorado. If you lose the first tuna hookup the rest of the school will usually sound, and no one gets bit. Great trip man. Brought back good memories. I've taken those trips out of H&M Landing since I was 10yrs old with my dad.

Mahi are cool fish... but I HATE that charter boat experience! It's like combat snagging below a salmon hatchery! A private boat is definitely the way to go!

That deckhand was kinda correct about the colors. It's all about the chromatophores. Most evident in fish, amphibians, and reptiles. Once dead they quit working as they are cells that produce pigments. Things that trigger this are excitement, camouflage, temperature, mood, stress levels, and social cues, or just to mimic their environment. Looked like controlled chaos which on a sport boat would be overwhelming to 1st timers. I spotted a couple newbie's. If it was your 1st time fishing with the crowd you did way better than most could ever. No angles, no tangles, and follow your fish. After those 2 major rules, have fun. Deck hands not good at head shots that trip, lot's of meat gaffs. Rookies...

I went down there to San Diego and was on the producer also targeted tuna. Hooked into a 50lb yellow fin was a 45 minute fight there power is insane. Undescribable. Great video guys I can't wait to go back in August

The San Diego Long Range sport fishing industry is top shelf of North America sport fishing. Imagine being hooked up for four hours on a 280 lb Tuna.
In last few years the Blue fin Tuna have been in a day boats range. You have a chance to catch a cow Tuna that you use to have really go long range to catch.
So every fisher should put Long Range sport fishing on you bucket list.

Dudes....you guys slay basically everything but your bread and butter is the chromers. Hit the salmon river in Pulaski N.Y....Beautiful fish. Cabins are anywhere between 65-100 bucks a night and most are right on the friggin River.. It produces some epic S!@$ so get your asses over the the east side!! Beautiful browns and stealhead are pushed up in her right now.

Used to have a lobster skiff in San Diego…Would find a kelp paddy…The dorado are so curious…Not always in abundance of course but they come out from the shelter like friendly dogs…sometimes become a little line shy and we would drop down in test…and then as the dorado bite would ease…the Yellow Fin tuna would come on…One day in the fog…with virtually no electronics we came to understand that we were no longer within our usual range…but on a paddy off of Oceanside…barely enough gas to get home…Never will forget the magic…as a 9 year old…on a cattle boat…fishing off the Coronados with my father…when someone said…It’s a barn door…a what…a very large halibut…Magic and the taste of the galley burgers will remain…You are covering ground…

Late June through October, Los Angeles to Cabo is peak season for albacore, yellow tail, yellowfin, Dorado. Yellowtail and yellowfin ( depending on water temp) can go into December.
