  • Video of the most famous restaurant in Namibia - Windhoek's Joe's Beer House located in Nelson Madela Avenue in Klein Windhoek. Part 1 of 2.

Address: 160 Nelson Mandela Avenue, Windhoek, Namibia.
Joe’s Beerhouse is for those who like the road less travelled. A place where the unexpected can occur, where quirky is normal, and where nothing is ordinary. A bit like Namibia really. Comfortably, gloriously different.
Joe’s isn’t new, but then again, a colourful history is one of the elements which gives an establishment a sense of place. JB first opened its doors in October 1991 in Grimm Street in Windhoek, relocated two and a half years later to Independence Avenue, and in 2001, settled firmly on 160 Nelson Mandela Avenue. From Grimm to Nelson Mandela…how’s that for Joe’s journey, well, Joachim’s actually, German-born Joachim Gross, founder of Joe’s Beerhouse. Joachim was a master chef who’d worked all around the world, from Germany and France, to Asia and the Bahamas…with a few cruise liners thrown in in between. He arrived in Namibia in 1986 and within a few years opened a legend - Joe’s Beerhouse.
Joe's Beerhouse is a must visit place for a hearty dinner in Windhoek. Lanterns illuminate the partially open-air dining area. Locals and foreigners mingle and drink craft Camelthorn Brewing Company beers while sat around picnic tables and makeshift barrel tables with wooden tops. A patchwork roof covers some of the boma encircles the dining area and the crowd is always a lively. The menu is a mix of German and Namibian dishes, so whether you're in the mood for a good bratwurst or more exotic eland steak, this is where you'll want to go. This restaurant is the perfect place to celebrate the start or finish of a great safari adventure.
Started in 1991, before being sold to current owners five years ago, Joe’s Beerhouse had 2 previous locations before settling in Mandela Avenue in central Windhoek. Joe’s prides itself on great food and an even better vibe, making it accessible to both tourists and locals alike.
Filled with trinkets, road signs, bottles, nets and what I call “desert souvenirs”; personal possessions seemingly lost in the desert forever, Joe’s Beerhouse is built like a village. Room after room, archway after archway, courtyard after courtyard, the restaurant lives up to its slogan, “a great escape” as guests navigate their way through the African wonderland to their table.
With a keen focus on delicious German-Namibian comfort food, great company, and good vibes, Joe’s Beerhouse can serve up to 500 covers in a night. With multiple seating areas around a centralized sports bar, Joe’s a great place to gather in small or large groups.
Being a former Namibian colony, German cuisine influences many of the dishes in Namibia. Coupled with a strong focus on meat, Joe’s Beerhouse is a meat lover’s paradise. Anything from ribs, steaks, schnitzels and kebabs can be found on the menu.
Drumming sessions at Joe's Beer House on Wednesdays.
Drumming is a path of healing, releasing and restoring. Research has shown that regular drumming in a group reduces tension, anxiety and stress. It is even know to boost the immune system. And of course it's great fun, for adults and kids alike!
The event takes place in an open air space in Joe's boma. Chairs are spaced one metre apart in line with COVID19 health and safety regulations. Drums are sanitized before and after each event.
This is not a drumming class. But we aim to teach new rhythms and techniques each week to keep things interesting for our loyal drumming community while at the same time accommodating first-time drummers.
    Djembe drums are provided.
TH-cam channel Exploring Namibia TV publishes four video a week: on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Themes range from travelling in Africa to exploring Europe and Russia. No annoying endless begging "hit/smash that bell" and "don't forget to sub" here.
