    There a thing called the Common Monetary Area agreement between Namibia 🇳🇦, South 🇿🇦, 🇱🇸 and Swaziland 🇸🇿. It's the reason why SA Rand is legal tender in those countries 26:59

    It is a common practice in Namibia to hoist the flags of the countries represented by international diplomats when they visit the country. This gesture serves as a sign of respect and hospitality, showcasing the diplomatic relations between Namibia and the respective countries. The flags are typically displayed in prominent locations throughout the city, symbolizing the unity and cooperation between nations. This tradition highlights the importance placed on diplomacy and international relations in Namibia, and it serves as a visual representation of the country's commitment to fostering positive diplomatic ties with countries from around the world.
    We do it for all countries, African or not.

    In any country when u see a foreign flag hoisted along streets automatically u know its a state visit by a leader of such country. The flags are only removed when the visitor leaves. The Belgian King was here on state visit for 5 days.

    • @kish_myworld
      @kish_myworld  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Okay. But would they do the same for us African countries when we visit them?

    • @YT-xk5jl
      @YT-xk5jl 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's not any country. It's only Namibia in Africa. I have never in my life seen or heard of this in any other African country. I can't even believe you are trying to justify such nonsense. England has a long history of engaging in this practice, as well as other European countries. So why the heck is an African country sustaining what is clearly a European culture, years after its so called independence from colonizers?

    • @MrLosches
      @MrLosches 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@YT-xk5jl
      What are you whining about, there are so many things colonized countries have retained from their colonizers. Hosting a flag of a foreign nation shouldn't be such a big deal.

    • @Tt-iu4vk
      @Tt-iu4vk 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I must agree with Kish here. The Belgian King came to South Africa first but did not bother to do a state visit. He was here to visit white Afrikaaners. He was booed in the streets and told to get out of our country because of his blatant disrespect of our people and government. His body guards were beaten too. The level of white supremacy is astounding. After all these years they still do not see us as humans beings. I can't believe he was welcomed in Namibia when he clearly still supports only white people and has no regard for black and coloured people or our governments.

    • @M_KK
      @M_KK 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Tt-iu4vk yet there are Africans flocking to Belgium. Believe it or not, Namibian exiles were hosted in Belgium during Apartheid. So because his ancestors did what they did, he must be punished for that?

    Namibia was Germany colony until 1915 when it became British colony after Germany was defeated in 1st World war. SA was British colony that time. So Britain gave mandate to British South Africa to oversee the administration of the territory of South West africa which was Namibia then. However South Africa exceeded the UN mandate and ended up treating the country as its own without reporting to the United nations. Thats when the United nations revoked SA mandate and ordered it to leave Namibia but it held on until internal liberation resistance started. Take note that German and Dutch names are very close at times even language. The streets in some areas of Windhoek especially Central business district are mostly German coz they founded the city and most towns in Namibia not South africa. South African Dutch descendants didn't change the street names when they took over in 1919 under UN mandate to administer territory. German is widely spoken by namibian Germans but afrikaans is the most widely spoken language by both white and blacks. Afrikaans is a like a linguafranca in Namibia.

    I agree with you about the monuments. They must not be destroyed but be put into museums. Many Namibians were genocides and fought for their freedom. We cannot glorify colonialism but start celebrating the indigenous people and put up their culture and celebrate them, their languages and their history, pre and post colonialism as well as the nations aspirations.
    No matter which European country you go to, no matter how many Africans live their, they speak the European language and the Africans adapt to fit into the European culture.

    In Namibia we preserve history for generations to see otherwise everything we have in africa is coloial from clothes, English language, shoes, watch, cars, money etc. We need to be honest in africa. Our number 1 enemy is bad governance leading to poverty not statues.

    • @YT-xk5jl
      @YT-xk5jl 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Those statues are a result of the legacy of YOUR oppression. Now those who survived that oppression, as in your parents, grand parents, great grand parents must see those statues and rehash their pain and trauma? How can you not understand this? This is why some of us preach for decolonization of Africa through decolonized education because colonization really did a number on many Africans. What a shame!

Middle, upper income and wealthy Residential areas are quite in Namibia coz people who stay there drive to and from. They have no reason to be on the street. It's not poor areas that have people walking all time. Even Nairobi is same. Go to Karen residential area etc I see no people on streets.

    Afrikaans is not a foreign language. Afrikaans is a language that developed from Dutch. It's like Swahili from Arabic. Majority of namibians speak afrikaans. It's actually the mother tongue of many blacks dating back to 1650. City of windhoek has no time to spend money on translations only for tourists!

      Afrikaans is NOT and will never be anything like Swahili. Swahili is at least 95% Bantu with a few borrowed words from Arabic. Meanwhile, Afrikaans is at least 90% Dutch. In short, while Swahili is clearly an African language that shares similarities with other Bantu African languages. Afrikaans is a European language that shares similarities with some other European languages. So who do you think you are fooling? Additionally, Afrikaans is not and will never be the mother tongue of African people. And it is not developed from Dutch, it is a sub language of Dutch. It's like saying Cape Verdean Criolu is developed from Portuguese. That is absurd. Cabo Verde Criolu is still Portuguese, just with some distinctions here and there.

      The FirstLlaw in our Constitution is the law of national reconciliation. Means we chose to be different. When The Most High brought His people out of captivity Egypt, they came out in mixed multitude of whosoever believed! Here in Namibia we believe in Together and in unity we build for our future generations. We know our stance is different but we take it like that and welcome to Namibia ❤

      @kish_myworld I don't think you understand the history of Afrikaans in Namibia. Afrikaans is a creole language that the slaves, and indigenous Khoi people created in the Cape Colony. The same indigenous people that were in the Cape extended as far as present day Windhoek. So Afrikaans was already spoken in what is now Namibia in the 18th century. In the 19th century it was the lingua franca of Southern and Central present day Namibia. Even the Germans couldn't force the German language in schools because the missionaries and traders were using Afrikaans.
      Saying Afrikaans was forced on the people is the same as English being forced in all former colonies and became official languages.
      In the Northern areas, Afrikaans is not so common. However the Southern and Central areas it is common due to various ethnic groups staying in one place.

    South Africa was controlling Namibia until recently in 1990. You'll see similarities between SA and Namibia due to the Apartheid SA legacy. The feel and look of the country is similar to SA.
    A town like Walvis Bay was under SA rule until around 1993.

      There’s no such a thing as “where Germans live” in Namibia , and just to correct you on something
      There’s no such thing as a German in Namibia , they’re Namibians just like me , they have to apply for a visa to enter Germany just like me ,,, if you want to know where Germans live then go to Germany , the whites here are Namibians even they don’t call themselves Germans & 90% of them have never even been to Europe
