When I was younger I went into a comic book shop looking to get into comics. the worker told me I should wait a bit until a new run started. I never got into comics. If you’re interested in it, I say just go for it.
The only problem with starting now is that there are years of tutorials on TH-cam that only feature the old rules. Whoever does a complete, concise tutorial with the new rules is going to break view records.
My friend and I were literally taking about getting into this game earlier today and this is the first video I see which is perfect timing. Thanks for the help man and keep up the good work
I feel bad for people starting out now. Because of the lack of older unit production from AMG, it’s almost impossible to find certain units for reasonable prices. Not a problem if you have a resin printer, but paying $60 plus for bossk is unreasonable in my opinion.
Agreed. Speaking as someone who got into it recently, finding some units ends up being a huge wild goose chase. The imperial specialists pack took a lot of searching to get multiple packs. I'd love to get my son the saber tank unit, but I can't find it anywhere for retail price. I wish AMG would pump some inventory into the market, at least through their own website or Amazon.
@ 100%. 3d printed units has caused some contention at our LGS with the owner, but we have been able to work out a compromise. 3d printed units are ok for casual and in store league games. But only official models for store tournaments.
I am a newish player and I would say yes! Especially if you are new to war gaming, so you have time to build models, learn how to paint and get them ready!
Congrats to the Winner. I really think waiting to see the new rules, Starter, and plastic models is the way to go. It could be a feel bad moment for people who don't know, get the old starter than a few months later the new one hits with better models and updated rules..
Well, I loved playing Star Wars Legion 1.0 and now, I want to play Star Wars Legion 2.0. Of cause I am thinking of a new army and I am really happy to see your guidance videos.
The hard part about getting into it now is the new rules and all that gose with it. If the units were the same size and make up, you could. With those chages its hard get into because you will have things you cant use
I think it depends on the faction you are interested in and what interests you in the game. They game is in a decent place right now, GAR is a bit over tuned but if you don't play on tournaments that shouldn't be a problem. If you plan to play Rebels or Empire I agree waiting for the new boxes wouldn't be a bad idea. If you have a bunch of friends wanting to play or you are on a budget getting into these factions might be cheaper and easier as people are likely going to be offloading a bunch of them or at least the core units.
I bought in about 6 months before the new edition was announced, spent that whole time painting up 2 armies, GAR and CIS, since no one local plays. Got about 95% done before the 2.0 announcement
I'll play Legion and I'll play any rules I want. It's a sorta like DnD currently with WOTC. Do crazy things all you want I already have the material I need to play home I want to
No way! Legion is following in the footsteps of Xwing and Armada. Because there was such a large gap in releases for Legion by AMG, my LGS told me sales have collapsed and Legion is just collecting dust. At least at my store, Legion has completely died
Legion is huge where I live. I bounce between two stores and one can't keep stuff in stock. The other just keeps restocking constantly. A store manager told me it only runs second to 40K - but more new players are coming for Legion than any other game.
I had not played board games or table top war games since before high school days. Back then it was dungeons and dragons, talisman and Warhammer 40,000 and regular Warhammer for a minute. I also play some TMNT role-playing game and also a cyber punk role-playing game that existed back in the 80s. Decades past, video games, replaced some of it, Life, the rest of it. Then about seven years ago, I walked by a hobby store and as a huge original trilogy, Star Wars fan I see this box sitting on a shelf through the window: Star Wars X-Wing. I’m like WTF? I see the models displayed through the film in the box (extremely smart, marketing). My first thought was OMG! Finally, I can get some decent XWing and tie fighter models! Already painted! I read the back of the box. Going, oh, please, how silly. Who would play a game like this? Rolling, dice and moving spaceships? Fast forward to now: I own XWing, Armada, Star Wars Legion, Star Wars, Unlimited, most of the Star Wars board games, I even do testing for FFG for upcoming product. And right now play the newest edition of talisman with my friends. 😂 slippery slope! No regrets! Probably need a larger house soon to fit all my hobbies 😝
AMG starts a 2.6 rules update. A nearly completely new game. So, now they release "New Stuff" with old cards! I'm not the only one who figured out, that the new releases are at least a 1-2 years old. They are holding us out. The shops are still vending old products. AMG don't get it to bring proper unit/upgrade cards pack. I think, they will never show these up. I don't believe the great refresh will come!
I was tempted to start legion until the new rule set came out. Original rules seemed a little easier.. Still worried because how new ruleset really split X-Wing community.
Before the big update with new cards and rules came out I purchased a small quantity of Republic units. ( 1x Commander Cody Expansion, 1x Phase 1 Expansion, 1x Phase 1 Upgrade Expansion, and 1x AT-RT) Enough to fill out a skirmish list so I can play the game but not spend so much money on it in case I decided I didn’t like playing it. I haven’t played a game yet and now with the rules change and card updates I’m not sure if I should get the print and play and start gaming to see how I feel, wait until some conversion kit comes out, just start from scratch and buy a skirmish list with the new units coming out, or just wait. Any Suggestions?
If you got a friend or local game store group ask for a starter game and see if it's something you would get into. Otherwise I would wait till the rest of the units comes out in February
I may not ever buy another official unit after the sleeper cell/riot control squads. Those look like the last ones with the old card style. I don't like the new card style or artwork, and I'm not a fan of the update at all, and my group still uses the old rule set. I may buy another core set or battleforce to flesh out my collection, but I'm not gonna give AMG much more of my money if they're going to keep butchering games that I love.
which is why they spent money to redo most of the in game art, and have a release schedule that stretches into late 2025, with a few arts and renders which does mean money was spent there too?
you know, i have been watching and giving you the benefit of the doubt man, but you are SOOOOO NEGATIVE, like honestly, if people dont start playing now they wont get traction to amke it to next year, This content took turn somewhere my friend im sorry im done. hype people up, and gert them playing so AMG can get producing. i HIGHLY SUGGEST STARTING ATLEAST 1000PTS if star wars is your game then come play

I did start in 2024. Shortly after the new edition and I am having a great time. So yes if you're interested in starting the game now is the time.

My crew will collect for the miniatures, but we play a custom rule set. It streamlines the game while also increasing the individuality of units.
like to see those rules
Legion is still fun regardless of the AMG shenanigans
AMG and Asmodee suck huevos.

I been looking at 2nd hand store and facebook groups
i got Bossk for 14 euros in germany.
Picked up the clone wars core this week cheap on eBay. Excited to get started!

Picking up more 1.0 if I can in case 2.0 doesn't pan out.

Oct has come and gone a nd still no armada news
My local hobby store is liquidating all their Legion and Shatterpoint game. Everything is 50% off.
Great video, very informative

Always helpful information!!

Yep. The big reason to get into Legion if someone is interested is to get what's left before AMG cancels the game.
@chadnine3432 💯 agree!
Yep
Legion is huge where I live. I bounce between two stores and one can't keep stuff in stock. The other just keeps restocking constantly. A store manager told me it only runs second to 40K - but more new players are coming for Legion than any other game.
I can drive between 10-45 mins and go to 6 different game stores where it’s played heavily

Play whatever catches your eye and fancy you. 😅
That's entirely too healthy an attitude. If you really loved Legion, you'd hate Legion like you're supposed to do.

I dumped 40k 10th and switched to legion, just in time for the edition switch, d'oh, but it's all good, i got everything i need, miniatures wise, now
As a casual player I’m going to stick with version 1 until the dust settles on 2…no way am I giving up as we enjoy it too much !
I appreciate you not scaring people to join the game.
honestly i might just keep using my minis to play 1.0.. the new minis are cool but not worth the price point

Also I bet some people will be selling their old clones for the new prints, might be able to get a bunch of stuff for cheap then
I hope 2025 brings a reprinted version of Cad Bane.
@crabbok Do you know why my comments keep getting removed? Is that you or TH-cam? I wasn't saying anything odd, out of place, negative, or offensive.
Maybe even 2025 at this point, haha!
I agree, too much flux right now
Why the hell did they release a new edition before it was done? Doesnt make any god damn sense.
literally just started legion!
Which faction?

This is probably the first time I would recommend new players not start buying into Legion now

I’m going to say no. They are just going to cancel it in a year.

How specifically, am I negative in this video?
