I love how the optional “finishing touches” are more than half of the vid 🤣🤣 It’s like Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones doing four encores.
Ha ha :D
Sorastro is the Bob Ross of miniature painting. It’s so peaceful listening and watching his videos haha I always look forward to new videos! Keep up the great work
Thanks a lot Adam! I'm happy to hear that you're enjoying the videos :D
Wow THAT is a prefect way to describe these videos!
I've been waiting for this video my whole life.
Ha :D
Thank you for what you do. You’ve taken my painting from “better than not” to something I’m genuinely proud of. You explain everything in such a succinct way that it makes it easy to take your techniques you teach and then use them to make my own designs. You are a true teacher
What a lovely comment - thank you Eden! I really appreciate that 😀
The way you paint the clones makes them seem so gritty AND I LOVE IT
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like what I did with them 😀
I'm stuck in my house with Clones to paint and a new Sorastro video. I know what I'm doing tonight!
:D
Star Wars Legion: Episode 17 complete, with a million more well on the way.
Ha - sure thing :)
The only good thing that came along since being quarantined! Thank you Maestro.
Lol - thanks buddy 😁
These look so good! Would love to see your work with the new Arc Troopers.
I’m super terrified of a hobby like this because I feel like I’d ruin all my models paint jobs. These are a great way for me to immerse myself in it, from afar. Thank you!
Thanks Christian! You might be surprised by what you're capable of! (Plus even if your first attempts aren't amazing, I bet the minis will still look a lot better than when unpainted..) :)
To add onto this, if you truly hate an old paintjob you can paint strip it, and start over! But luckily legion is much cheaper than other wargames so feel free to grab a small box and just muck around for a bit :D skill comes with time :)
You currently have 51,739 views on this video. 739 of those were from just me. :) I am just starting to paint (at 41 years old). My son is 7 and I he has an interest in the hobby, so I am trying to teach him how, and these videos have been very helpful. Without them, I would probably just be priming and putting on one coat of paint. They are still crude, but my clones look, probably, 'average' thanks to your tips. Thank you!
Ha ha, that's great - thanks Bobby! :)
Someday I will work up the guts to open my Legion figures and paint them but I am trying to build foundational skills first. I need bulk minis to practice on that I won't feel bad messing up.
In the meantime, your videos show me how practice obviously makes for a damn fine product. Always super envious of your clear skill in the medium. Always appreciate your content and approach to painting.
Thank you kindly! I really appreciate that :)
Love how you did the shading I just did a 3-1 ratio of medium to nuln oil and it looks like the clones from the clone wars film
Awesome :)
Is that the Zorpazorp method?
Annoyingparpew7 pretty much 👍
Stellar work, my friend. Toppest of notches! Now there is hope my models might not look like a dreadful mess.
Thank you! You can do it! 😀
What a great tutorial. As most people I struggle a bit with white and black. But this and your other video helped me to move on and I can now confidently start on my Stormtroopers and Clones 🙂❤️
Thanks a lot Sonny! I'm glad you found it useful 🙂
as a new player, this was *very* helpful, I really didn’t want to mess up while painting the white and then make it look horrible, so this really helped, thanks!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found the video helpful 😀
I‘ve been using this recipe for my Legion clones and soon it‘s going to get my Shatterpoint clones to the tabletop.
Thank you very much for sharing!
Fantastic, thanks Daniel! :)
I’ve been painting for 6 years, I painted *the* first red sanguinius and here I am because I can’t help watching painting videos
I love your use of the citadel contrast paint and the concept of wiping off and diluting the paint to make a smoother transition! I've been using this technique on the regular citadel shades. This is a much more efficient method of controlling the wash instead of just passively slathering it on the entire model and then repainting everything
These are fantastic! I love that you're showing how to use some of the "beginner" tools like the contrast paints in your process and allow schlubs like me to save some time. If mine look 1/4 this good I'll be extremely happy with them.
Awesome! Thanks a lot, I’m happy to hear that 😀
Seeing the chips, scratches and Geonosian weather added was brilliant
Thanks! Those last little touches can really add a lot :)
Just so much enjoyment watching you paint and teaching us all to be better painters. Thank you.
Thanks a lot Michael! I really appreciate that :)
I poretty much already did this lol!!! except i did black, grey, white, to give my troopers a bit of a weathered look. and some tamiy panel liner to alot more definition!!! Cant wait to see your Obiwan or Dooku.
Whenever I'm flagging on a painting project and then see a Sorastro vid then I'm back in the game.
That's awesome - thank you! :)
Same here, they build confidence for sure.
I’m going to buy my first core set soon. Can’t wait to paint them. Going to make all my clones part of the 501st
Good call! :)
I’m planning on buying some Star Wars legion clone troopers. I wanted to make my own patterns on my clone troopers and this will REALLY help me. Thanks :D
I painted my models before your video and am really happy with myself because your method is virtually the same as what I came up with on my own. I say that because i'm really inexperienced with painting still, and i'm proud that I was able to come up with something on my own that matched closely what I consider an expert / pro painter is using.
Awesome! :)
Hello again Sorastro. Thank you for the quick response and the info about your music. I found Starborn on Amazon and will purchase it soon. I also found it on youtube and was listening to it last night while I was building an MPC 1/72 14" Space: 1999 Eagle model. The music lets your imagination run wild. Thank you again. Take care, stay healthy, and keep painting!!
FINALLY! Glad you get to put this one up at last, bud! Lovely as always!
Thanks a lot mate! :D
Do I see the little magnetic hard palette from Everlasting? I have finally started using mine and love the combo.
Yeh! I use it all the time now :D
The wait was worth it, even clones get +100 personality with unit markings, they look great.
Thanks a lot! I agree, the unit markings add so much 😀
@@Sorastro Besides colors, I painted the belts in Vallejo Deck Tan, I like the contrast with the white.
Magnificent, aren't they...
Can't wait to start painting these boys once the core set arrives 🙌
Awesome Paul :D
Just
Bought my own kit cause of your videos!! Can’t wait to start it!!
Awesome! Thank you! :)
I cant believe I wasn't already sub'ed... I've looked up your channel every time I have a mini I'm intimidated by, and let your silky skills and equally silky tone gently guide my brush to victory
Ha ha, thank you sir! 😁
He makes it look so easy!
Guilty as charged.. 😁
I'm trying this out now for my Infinity Morats. First try of the shading came out far too dark, so I'm playing around with the mixture now as well as giving the armor another glossy white drybrush.
i'm wainting for Count Dooku tutorial :) the miniature is so beautiful !
I agree he's a wonderful sculpt! :)
Using this to help with Shatterpoint squads. Thanks for the awesome video.
Awesome, buddy! 😀
Wow what amazing work with the color on those troopers!
Thanks so much Michael! 😀
Been waiting to see you do these models for a while! 👍🏻
Thanks for your patience! :)
Excellent work, I see that the Contrast paints when used by skilled hands can create very effective and quick shading where needed.
Thanks a lot Max! I'm glad you liked it :)
@@Sorastro Indeed, I will consider purchasing some and trying your method , when the need arises.
I have awaited this moment for a long time
Thanks for your patience Kaden! :)
Yesssssssss I've been waiting for months for this to come out and I'm so enticed
Thanks Eduardo! 🙂
I've been hoping this video would come out for ages :) not a criticism - I know you have loads on, I was just looking forward to it! This is a colossal help, thank you for sharing.
Thanks Oliver! I appreciate your patience. You'll be pleased to know the next video will be arriving quite soon... :)
Finally some clone bois and also 212! Thank you for the guide!
You're very welcome! :)
Excellent guide, we just started in clone wars
Absolutely BRILLIANT!
Thanks very much! 😀
I think I want to paint these as my first proper miniatures (painted one at Games Workshop years ago - so not technically) because man these look beautiful.
Thanks a lot! White can be a tricky colour to paint well, but for a good tabletop standard I think this approach is pretty great (especially if you're batch painting large numbers!) 😁
It is really AWESOME!😍
Thank you my friend! That’s very kind 😀
Finally, the clones have arrived! Not to mention, during the quarantine. Very well timed, my friend. I also like how youtube didn't put this video up in my sub box and i found out by just randomly seeing it in my recommended.
Thanks a lot! 😃
Best tutorials on TH-cam, great work!
Thank you so much :D
Queued up the video and saw you hit 90k! Congrats! Time for a another amazing Mrs Sorastro cake!
Thanks a lot mate! :D
Been waiting for this one for a while! I have a ton of Stormtrooper variants in Imperial Assault I haven't touched yet because I heard you came up with a faster way of painting them with the contrast colors. It'll give me something to do while everyone's stuck being quarantined, hahah.
Thanks! Have fun :)
Could we see you paint arc troopers in the future? And thank you so much for the video! I'm going to open my clone wars era core set, captain rex and upgrade expansions on Christmas and can't wait to paint them!
Thanks! I might cover them as a PDF guide perhaps.. :)
Top notch as always. Really interesting on that premixing the shade business. Very nice. Simple and super effective! Now I've got to go buy some Clones...
Thanks a lot mate! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Can't believe I hadn't found your channel until now. Been looking for a nice video on white armour for a while now, and surprised to hear a familiar accent :)
Subscribed and will be going on a binge watch 🙂
Ha ha, thank you sir! I hope you enjoy the rest of the series.. 😁
I will try this approach for some of my Imperial Assault Stormtroopers 💪
Awesome! I tried it on some and was very pleased with the result :)
@@Sorastro good to know 👍
Love all your videos. Thank you for posting and keep doing what you’re doing! Stuck at home for a couple of weeks so these are great to watch. Thank you!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy your hobby time :)
These are amazing. Just getting into the hobby and can't believe how talented some people are at painting miniatures. Keep up the good work my friend. You have a subscriber in me
Aw thank you mate! I really appreciate that 😀
@@Sorastro no worries liking the videos going to try the styles you have done
If my meager sub can get you one number closer to that silver play button, it will have been worth it. You've helped so many mediocre painters (such as myself) produce some really passable models, and I am immensely grateful.
Thank you so much for the kind comment! I might not have the biggest audience in the world, but I think I might have the loveliest! 😀
@@Sorastro I think that voice just brings out the best in all of us.
Solid video. Solid painting. Thanks for the video of your process!
Thank you sir! I really appreciate that 🙂
@@Sorastro I'm just about to dive into Legion with a Republic army and this is a great resource!
Hey Sorastro’s Painting! Nice job on this project, they look amazing! Could you you do a painting tutorial on Captain Rex?
Thanks a lot Isaac! I'd love to paint my Captain Rex, although I'll most likely cover him with a PDF guide rather than a video :)
Thanks Sorastro! This video is pure gold! Love your work
Thanks so much Rhett! I'm glad you liked it 😀
Amazing work as always. And what's more, music composed by Sorastro!?!! Absolutely fantastic!!
Thank you so much! 🙂
Splendor! Ich love your work. It looks so easy when you do it, I´m struggling with easiest technics.
Thank you! You'll get there though - just practice, and you'll improve with each mini you paint :)
Great video))
The most important thing is the health of you and your family!!!
Continue to please everyone with your creativity 💪💪💪
Thanks so much! :)
I'm hoping I can replicate these even slightly for my first time painting also amazing work
Thank you! You got this! 😀
I've been looking forward to this!
Awesome :)
just discovered your channel 2 days ago and im just loving the extrem high quality content keep it up
Thank you so much! I'll keep doing my best :)
This is an awesome video. Gives me more ideas for my own 501st and 212th units I just worked on to tweak if need be. CHEERS!
Thanks Nessie! I'm glad you found the video useful :)
Amazing. You should add Mansons of Madness to your future list of miniatures to paint.
Thank you so much, you made my troops look awesome!
Thanks Scott! My video might have helped, but you painted them - well done! :)
Fantastic work!
Music starting at 10:45 is definitely my new favorite and one of your best tracks! Really look forward to getting this track with your next album release very soon!
Thanks a lot mate! That's also one of my favourite tracks :)
please paint some phase II
Fantastic! I was really looking forward to this video and it doesn't disappoint!
Thanks so much! I'm pleased you liked it :)
a long time I was looking a good choice for paiting my Tau empire , but now well i found my style)
Awesome! I'm glad you found the episode useful 😀
Can’t wait to paint my clones like this! Anyone reckon this guide will work for the arc troopers and the phase 2s?
I would think so
You never disappoint my man, these look great. Looking forward to seeing how you do the saber and barcs!
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate that :)
Beautiful work and a great attitude makes for a really good video tutorial!
Thanks so much James! 🙂
Great work as always mate. Got a box of clones for crimbo not opened them yet think I will be very soon.
All the best
Wayne
Thanks a lot Wayne! I'm glad you liked it :)
Great looking models mate, this will be my first time ever painting. I only have a black spray for primer, will that be okay for this?
Thanks! I'd really recommend getting a white primer for these guys; it will save you a lot of work! :)
Which brand of brushes do you use / recommend? The brushes look really nice to use in the video
Hi! This might help: th-cam.com/video/RgNuwb9lpeg/w-d-xo.html 🙂
I love this method and use it on all my legion white armor
Awesome! I'm glad you found the approach useful 😀
Stunning as usual my friend!
Thank you so much Steve! :)
I keep re-watching this video over and over again. It is just so visually satisfying. Also, what's the music used? It reminds me of what can be heard while on Mars in the Destiny games.
Thank you so much! I actually compose all of my own music (you can find out more about it here: sorastro.com/sorastros-music/ ) :)
@@Sorastro wow, that is amazing. They remind me a lot of some great classics
I'm self isolating right now, having to wait for the results of my Covid 9 test (I'm showing early signs of the virus), but am staying as positive as possible, and watching your tutorials is some of the best medicine available, as they continue to inspire me to higher efforts in my own painting, and having seen the new Clone Troopers waiting for my attention, I enjoyed watching this video even more than usual. Keep up the wonderful work you're doing Mr S :-) Love to all, Paul
Hey mate! So sorry to hear you've had early signs of the virus, but I'm glad you were able to get tested. All the best to you and yours. :)
Hi hopefully you would see this and by any chance will you be doing a tutorial for how to paint Rex?
Hi Sean! Yes I'll certainly be painting Captain Rex - although I might cover him as a PDF guide rather than a video :)
As a new miniature figure painter… I see that when you do the primer stage you have an airbrush would a normal can of spray paint primer do the same job?
Hey Alex! Yep, a spray-can primer would be fine 🙂
These are amazing as always
Thanks a lot Landon! I think they're pretty good for a relatively fast paint job :)
Another great painting video!!! Very interesting the new options the contrast paint provides. I will sure considering using some contrast paint for my Clones troopers and Stormtroopers minis! I very like your Star wars Legion video series!!! :) ..Cheers!
Thanks so much! I'm glad you found it useful 🙂
Thanks for making this! Could i just use straight Averland Sunset for the 212th or is it too yellow?
Thank you sir! Honestly - if you like it, then go for it! That's all that matters :)
@@Sorastro well it seems like in some art i see them as more yellow, and in some its more orange. So its hard for me to tell what the most accurate color is. I want mine to look like the ones from the clone wars show
Models look very nice, good job! It's really amusing that the last Legion - Clone Wars related video you uploaded was almost exactly 6 months ago (I watched it while I was vacationing in Italy, weird how times change...)
Hi! Gosh yes; things have changed very quickly...
You never disappoint! They look great! I can’t wait to try this myself and fail miserably :D
You got this! :)
Hey friend! I usually thin my paints with Vallejo's Thinner Medium. Does that work like Lahmien Medium and water? Or is water better?
Thanks!
Hi! I've not actually tried the Vallejo Thinner Medium myself, so I can't really answer that tbh. I generally think it's good to get used to thinning with just water initially, then maybe trying the different mediums out to see how they affect the behaviour of the paint.. 🙂
@@Sorastro Thank you. I'll try out some different methods next time I work on one :)
Hey sorastro, I got badger primer to do some clone myself and the white paint is watery out of the bottle. Does yours do the same, any advice on what to do or how to use it?
Hi! Sorry to hear that. I've actually had problems with the Badger primers myself lately, so I've switched to a different brand. For priming in white I might actually suggest using a good rattle can primer, like the Tamiya fine white surface primer, or the GW stuff. 🙂
@@Sorastro ah ok. I may try that. Do you know if vallejos white primer is any good?
Is the flow enhancer you use the same type of stuff people use to improve flow in their airbrush?
It's probably very similar, yes. 🙂
Hello Sorastro's I like your videos
Question: How to paint droideka ?
Thank you
Hi Stephane! I've actually produced a video for the Droidekas, and will release it as soon as it passes licensing approval. :)
oh! Thank you Sorastro’s painting
great!
Nice video! I was just wondering what super glue you use for assembling the clones, I’m looking in to getting some kits and was just wondering what sort of brand is the best.
Hi! I think most types of super glue would be fine (I happen to be using one called "Rocket Rapid" at the moment.. :)
Sorastro's Painting, thank you, I will definitely be sticking to your painting guide!
This is fantastic.
Thanks a lot! :D
You should paint the 41st ranger platoon
Like these ?: sorastro.com/2018/12/06/scout-troopers-pdf-guide/
So when you mix 3 parts of apothecary white with 1 part black Templar and contrast medium and the flow enhancer what do you use to get the measurements?? I’m new to adding different colours into one pot. What white spray would you also recommend in the GW range
Also do you have a list of colours you would use just from the GW range as I can’t get a hold of Vallejo paints my stores not stock them
Cheers in advance
Hi! I might use a pipette for the mixing - especially if I'm preparing a large quantity. :)
