- Cambodia. I'm not sure what you've heard about this country, but after some stressful trips around the world, I needed a break. Cambodia has, well, an interesting reputation. A place where you can find almost anything! It even has one of the world's biggest wonders, Angkor Wat! Perfect place for a little vacation. Sure, there's a lot of shady things that have happened in the country as well, but we were going to forget that for now.
I invited some friends of mine to join and we were off to try everything Cambodia had to offer, from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. It was sure to be a very happy time.

Thanks for inviting me on the adventure Tommy... had a good time making the video with everyone !
Appreciate it 🙏 🙏
How about taking a look at my drawing and painting travel videos on my channel Gary Draws and Paints. We should join up sometime!
@@KidGreatness Yo, Kid Greatness - you just got a new subscriber here! If Sabbatical approves, hey, you're OK in my book! Safe travels!

Cambodia is special. The Khmer are kind people, love them and their country. 🇰🇭
“Where are the drugs at?”
Entrance is over there .💀
Hey Sabbatical, I literally just left there! Too bad we weren’t able to cross paths there. I had an amazing time… great video and eager to see your further adventures!
Inhaling some baloon gas in 1 bar in Phnom Penh hardly makes Cambodia the most hedonistic country on Earth.
Depends the places you know in Phnom Penh
@@nightrider12soul Whatever places you know in Phnom Penh, it is never going to be the Hedonistic capital of the World ! Fact!
So laughing gas right
@@ENDDYFILMS Exactly.
@@robinhazell6019 Not like Ibiza,Berlin and A-dam.But weather is better in PP and Khmer people are nice.
Phnom Penh is still vibrant place.I like though I haven’t been there in last six years.
I liked it when was like Wild West.
Dedicated viewer here! Thank you again for your wonderfully unvarnished peek into another fascinating corner of the world. Just yesterday a friend suggested we go to Angkor Wat. I’m now on board!
Much love to you. I look forward to learning more about how Chinese mafias are impacting Cambodia.
Angkor wat is the most amazing thing you will ever see, trust me and I've travelled extensively and still Angkor wat blows my mind .
They are down south on the boarder of Thailand where they've built hundreds of casinos not in Siem Reap
@@keithdouglas9848Definitely.
I've been living in Cambodia for 6 years. I didn't expect you to come here. But welcome! Looking forward to your next episode in Kampong Som (Sihanoukville).
How it's it now since the Chinese swarmed in?. I was there in 07 and stayed at the Utopia, not too far from the beaches.
@@mrdm1967ify a lot of Chinese left after the government banned online gambling. And they left hundreds of unfinished buildings behind. There's still a lot of Chinese left but they seem to be very seedy and involved in a lot of scamming. I'm constantly hearing about murders, kidnapping, trafficking... The sleepy Sihanoukville you saw in 07 is long gone.
@@mrdm1967ify Its a completely different place. Utopia is now one of many grey buildings. The lions are still there but all around are just chinese stle half empty buldings and chinese shops. Same with Otres allthough Otres can be ok for a few days. The whole Ocheteul beach now is basically identical looking resteraunts. There are a few that never sold though. Khin shack is still there as in 07.
@@mrdm1967ify I was just in Siem Reap and our driver who we hired for a few days said he used to drive for the Chinese gangs in Sihanoukville. He said he saw heaps of gunfights and deaths between Chinese gangsters. I wouldn’t recommend going. It’s a dark place.
@@operandexpansehow do they become gangsters when it's not allowed in china ?
Cambodia is possibly the best country in SE Asia, no language barrier like Thailand/Vietnam/Myanmar etc because most Khmer speak English, Medical & Pharmacy/Drug stores everywhere with no prescription necessary, most Restaurants list Menu in Khmer/English unlike Vietnam & Thailand, the Khmer Rouge held back development of Cambodia so there are areas of the country which have not been westernized & a person can get a glimpse of real Khmer culture, in spite of the hardships these people have faced & continue to do so they are a warm & friendly people, Cambodia is definitely worth a visit!
atheist Khmer rouge ruined Cambodia.
@@SiGa-i1r They did that for sure, & what a tragedy it all were & is to this day, I think Cambodia would have possibly been one of the most advanced places in SE Asia if KR did not happen, no other city in surrounding countries has such a nice riverfront area like in Phnom Penh, as well as the Siem Reap Temple Complex. Even though Thailand & Vietnam did not go through what Khmer have i still feel as a westerner that Cambodia is an good place to visit without language barrier like those 2 previously mentioned countries.
You sound like you have never been there, half of what you said is nonsense
@@georgedickens261you think the average Khmer speaks more english than the average thai?
@@houserental5424Did you ever read the report? Most ASIAN country only Thailand is the most poorest in English proficiency. Most of them don't know English or some can't even read alphabet.
Thanks for the Adventure Tommy. it was real fun, loved the relaxed attitude, yet you still managed to teach us something and show off your Chinese :) Looking forward to the next one....Peace
I like his vids but this one didnt sit well with me. He felt out of character. Came off rather rude and disrespectful compared to his usual smart, thoughtful, and calm self.
14:00 dude was so impressed by his Chinese but respectfully answered the question first before complimenting him.
Tommy, what a great collaboration! I enjoy watching you spend time with your friends.
So happy to see you upload another video, was getting a little worried that you haven't posted in a while. Looking forward to your next adventure at sihanoukville!
I disagree with classifying Cambodia as a hedonistic country. The people are very friendly, honest. Crime is very low. Vices are not pushed in your face like in Philippines and Thailand. Scammers are much less than Vietnam. I've been living around SE Asia for 11 years now and I find Cambodia as the most relaxing and safe country in the region, with citizens having strong moral values.
@@ephelesfrance7006 respect to Cambodia. however, he is a clueless tourist and proud of it, bumbling and discovering innocently enough. sure get to see stuff.
it has been awhile, a decade, but visiting Phnom Penh someone asked me if I wanted a prostitute every 10 steps. Thailand isn't like that; I live there. Siem Reap also isn't like that. even in Sikanouville no one mentioned that, but then I went with my wife.
I think it’s kind of a joke bro. It’s Chinese imperialism. Everyone knows China, America are the most hedonistic countries
Completely agree, perfect summary
Live in Siem Reap. Cambodia is an amazing country. Hope you make it up this way. Angkor Wat, and the whole temple complex will blow your mind.
ar you based in sihanoukville/
It didn't blow my mind.
Thank goodness you are alright ! Every time there is a big gap between your videos, i start worrying if everything is alright.
My favourite travel blogger !
if you're curious about the "black girl" stall name, it is a direct translation from the word ស្រីម៉ៅ which is a very common female khmer name and also the name of the stall owner.
Thanks for the explanation! Never knew there were so many black girls in Cambodia
I'm in Siem Reap now. Enjoyed your video! Nice traveling partners, so fun!
Glad to see you again , sabbatical .
You are a lifesaver with your content. I need this. Just found out I’m having a baby boy in November so was in need of a video to calm my thoughts and nerves and just allow me to slow down a bit😂😂😂

It’s funny, I was just talking about Cambodia with my grandmother this morning. She’s been to Phnom Penh and Angkor Wat. She really enjoyed it, she has plenty of cool stories.
I was in Thailand twice, made it so close to Cambodia. I read amazing stories written in journals in a Cafe in Trat which said nothing but great things about Cambodia.
Amazing people here.
Thanks for visiting Cambodia, Tommy. I'm the local Cambodian and have been following your channel for so long now. I think Cambodia is safer than some of the places you have been to.
It's much safer, but Tommy goes to some of the sketchiest neighborhoods in other countries
Its good to see you hanging out with fellow friends just on a regular vacation kinda
Please guys and gal
Be safe dont get stolen tommy
Love seeing the Sabbatical extended cinematic universe unite, i smell lots of sequels in the future (hopefully!)
OH HELL YEAH. FINALLY A FULL VID. The first thing my wife and I check on YT everyday is whether you have a new video.
Glazing
Long time subscriber but glad to see you finally visiting my parents motherland Tommy! Went in 2017 and didn’t get to try the weed pizza either. I went to the temple and they wanted to charge me the entrance fee because of my American passport but since I spoke the language they let me in free 😊
That is so awesome! Everywhere you go you're trying to speak the local language. Respect 😅
Hey Sabbatical, you never know what positive impact you have created through out the world even without your knowledge, just want to thank you and appreciate your work.
All these years of travel around Asia and it's your first time in Cambodia! Nice to see you made it there!!!
Just got back from Cambodia! It was my first time as well. Glad I got to go.
Would love to visit that giant temple atleast once in my life! That’s a very cool piece of the past right there. I’ve always been so fascinated by those kind of ancient structures/sites.
You need Khmer people as part of entourage. These guys are incompetent to the least/ disrespectful. Most Khmer don’t do drugs … difficult to watch… Khmer people are great..
Tommy! Why am I not surprised that you travel with a fantastic crew! I hope your adventures have been well and as always - thank you for taking us with you!
I miss Cambodia so much, cant wait to be back there .
Cambodia is so cool
I am totally buzzed out by the ancient temples there’s so much to know and a guide is really helpful for ancient legend and stories it’s a mysterious place in the Angkor kingdom
It's same with east asia all over , different tribes follow slightly different sects of Buddhism which they've shown in the historical monuments.
Cambodia 🇰🇭 one of my favorite countries in the world. I spent some time there before covid and I really need to go back.
❤🙏🫵🇺🇸👍 Hello Tommy GREAT to see you Bro’ although I am not familiar with your buddy’s except for the beautiful young woman I really am glad they are with you I hate to see you alone in these foreign countries I really worry about your safety God Bless You and stay safe 🙏.
If you've ever traveled you'd realize that you're never alone.
nice video, i learned ancient Khmer, "Khmer boran" many years back from the Khmer population in Thailand that still uses the old language, so when i use the old words in Cambodja i always get a reaction - "prang yey Khmer boran! hehe
angkor wat is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, absolutely worth a visit
Welcome in my home!
I hope u will enjoy it.
I can recommend u guys to go see the old Dumpsite of Phnom Penh steung Mean chea. It gives you a crazy view between rich and poor (old city, new city)
Be careful in Sianoukville !
Samuel
I was there. You brought back some memories to me 😊
Def a diff vibe for this one. His vids are usually more serious. Ur he was enjoying himself out here and getting lit
the only youtuber that does intros right
I watched a documentary about Angkor Wat and researchers have made new discoveries on the size of AK using GPR ...Ground Penetrating Radar which shows sub surface structures like old foundations and outlines of pools and water delivery systems etc. That were ahead of their time.
Angkor wat should exist it's floating on water.
It's like a city
WOW, THANKS AGAIN!
This video is a joy to watch, as usual, Tommy! It was really interesting to learn about the local perspectives on Cambodia's hedonistic reputation and how it compares to other Southeast Asian countries. I'm a travel vlogger and can't wait to visit Cambodia soon to document my experience there as well.🇰🇭
I really liked this country. People just seemed genuinely happy and hospitably. Also, loved the food.
The lack of Chinese tourists can suggest so many different things. I'm not going to speculate but that difference was stark.
Great video, I like that you met with all those other travel vloggers and just seeing the multifaceted content really helps put perspective to what the country might be like
They come in tour groups .
When I lived in Thailand I used spend a week in PP every 3 months to renew my visa .Loved the place imagine it was like Bangkok was 20 years ago!
Great episode!
HIRE A GUIDE !! They're highly qualified and make the temples come alive with awesome history. And they're very inexpensive.
There's so much to learn and enjoy.
Been many times. Have fun. Awesome people. 😁😁
I second this, I had a guide when I went some years ago and they went above and beyond! They even showed me places to eat i wouldn't find myself
Planning to visit Cambodia and glad to have read your comment. Hiring a guide sounds like a great idea to really appreciate the temples. Any recommendations on where to find a good guide?
@@InvestedAdventure They usually have leaflets available from most hotel lobbies, went there dec 2023 and my guide still sends me cheery whatsapp messages every few weeks
The country which I was waiting to see..I heard the climate is unbearable..Thanks Tommy for this video.
March April May are cruel. On the 40s Celsius. Temperature gage was 62c outside in Siem Reap. Average temp now about 33c.
I'm always so happy when I see a new video of yours!
Come visit us in Portugal one day!
I am not fan since three years but I watched your oldest videos ;D So I know him from your Tanzania videos
Good to see you in my country Tommy! Man I wish you would've reached out to me, I could show you the real side of Cambodia ;)

Big fan! Are you in Phnom Penh now? Come down to Oscar's on the Corner on Street 104 tonight to check out some of the expats who keep rock and roll alive and well in the Penh. Cheers!
That into was fire! Right over that guys head lol
Tommy looking forward to Your Cambodia special on Chinese Mafia. I thoroughly enjoyed your video on the Chinese triangle that was a hotbed of criminal activity, most interesting! Can’t wait for your next one.😊
Never heard Cambodia described as hedonistic.
It's not by any standard.
You can't go wrong with Ballons 😂😂
🎈
WOWOWOWOW...
Thanks for this awesome episode!!!!!!! Vishnu is awesome!
Visit Cambodia you should visit 4 places
1. Siem Reap (Angkor Wat)
2. Koh Rong (Sihanouk Ville)
3. Kampot
4. Phnom Penh
Keep on rocking, Tommy! ❤ It's always so much fun when you upload a new video. También quiero decir que aprecio tus habilidades lingüísticas, o sea, es bastante raro ver a un estadounidense que pueda hablar varios idiomas con fluidez 👍Espero verte pronto con un nuevo vídeo. Buena suerte! ❤ Saludos desde Las Palmas, GC. Con afecto, Marisol.
Peppy video, Tommy! Love from my den in NYC, as usual!
Oh wow, I visited Siam Reap several times in the mid 1990's. While things were a little different back then, the restaurant at the end of this video was exactly the same. It's kind of funny to see the same signs and the same tables I sat at so many years ago.😅
Man, so nice to see you having a lil gang of expats exploring cambodia!
Amok fish and lak lok beef is a beautiful Cambodian dish worth trying
been wanting to go there! maybe in a couple months, its a bit more expensive of a flight from philippines than singapore but i been there a few times already.
love your personality and channel and you kind of remind me of anthony bourdain lol
It is amazing how your channel is exponentially growing.....cant believe
That is the Tonle Sap River, the Mekong is Further behind you , where they Meet .
I’ve never heard Sabbatical say “ I feel you” wonder why he did today?😆jk bud love this and all your videos!🖤💛🤟✌️
Tommy I'm truly shocked after all the traveling you've done, you've never tried sugar cane juice?!
Also, rule #1 when taking those happy balloons... SIT DOWN! You could have fallen and banged your head
Love the more relaxed videos
Ohh I was in Angkor wat
Just yesterday would have been amazing if I'd see you Tommy. I've watched loads of your videos but my first time to comment.
Love your content.
Amazing this Tommy great vlog
did anyone notice the 16:28 mark where the dude takes out his wallet FULL of bills and says “NOT MUCH MONEY” and the Khmer dudes eyes see everything …. I can imagine if I was that Khmer dude working there I’d feel pretty shitty in that moment
Hi Tommy, this is your driver, Monica.. looking forward to your Indiana posts.
Been to Cambodia. PP and Siem Reap. PP was interesting. At night it changes to a totally different city. Surreal. Took a six hour bus ride to Siem Reap.
Thanks Tommy. Good to see the gang in formation.
My friend who traveled to Sihanoukville back in the day said it was a backpackers paradise. Now it is completely unrecognizable lol. So much development and investment from Chinese.
They destroyed it. Used to be fantastic
@@richmann8230 too sad it's no longer a pre-modern place for white tourists like you to feel “fantastic”.
