FILM DESCRIPTION: Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) has been champion for three years. He has defeated all challengers-ten of them to be exact! Rocky has been lionized by the world. His marriage to Adrian (Talia Shire) is thriving. His son is healthy and happy. And Rocky has become a little complacement. Not the right time for the next "comer" to appear-a vicious, very dangerous boxer named Clubber Lang (Mr. T). Rocky's manager, Mickey (Burgess Meredith), takes a look at this behemoth and advises Rocky to hang it up. Rocky falls under the pounding of the hungry challenger. This is the last blow for Mickey: he dies. Rocky realizes that he must find a new fighting style and turns to the ex-champ Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) for help. I remember seeing a comment saying that when Rocky 3 came to cinemas Mr.T’s mum watched a bit of the movie and left because she hated how his characters personality is.
I’m kinda surprised Mr. T wasn’t nominated for a Best Supporting Actor award at the Oscars.
He did alright playing an unsympathetic villain, whom we only ever see trash talking Rocky and/or Apollo in interviews or yelling at them directly. If you've ever seen him in anything else... Well, he's so wooden he might as well be a cigar store Indian.

Carl Weathers is excellent. Mr T played a great character in Clubber Lang. Probably my favorite Rocky film. 💪👊

I remember watching this on a pirate vhs before it was released .. the whole street came into our house to watch it.. amazing memories of everyone cheering for Rocky in the 1st fight with Clubber then everyone crying when Micky died.. everyone loved Rocky 3...
Life was so simple and Great back then, how time has flew
Good old days of vhs, rentals and neighbourhoods having a sense of community. Flicking through the huge library of movies at your local rental, deciding what snacks to buy to go with it and calling your friends round to make it an occasion for the night. Now stuff like this is a disposable, solitary experience, with streaming, downloads, able to watch on a 5 inch screen, in public, with headphones on. And with property prices so high that people renting and sharing accommodations come and go, that you don't know the people on your street, that you might have lived nearly all your life on.
What a shame...
Part 3 is a classic
It's honestly my favorite one.
The fact the villain of the last two films now becomes a trainer and a long time friend is an awesome twist that works so well. 4 is a lot of fun, but this one is easily my favorite.

My favorite Rocky movie, no doubt. Clubber had some great lines, and his style of delivery was great. He was so much fun.

I never really took the Rocky movies as "boxing" movies, but a journey of a man's life, I thought all the Rocky movies were great, Sly is as charismatic as an actor gets. I could watch all of them again and again. The street fight in 5 was great.

Clubber was a power hitter, not a jabber. He was like a tank, just rolled forward and smashed anyone foolish enough to stand in his path. Rocky was also a Tank as we know.
@@62202ify Rocky was more of a Wall than a Tank. A Tank hits really hard and gets hit really hard, a Wall just has ludicrously high defense. Clubber Lang was more of a Glass Cannon. Once he got worn out, he went down faster than any one of Rocky's other opponents

Clubbed Lang was not a bad guy, he was just tryna be the best. He was hungry, paid his dues and felt disrespected.
The problem is once he became champion, he got a little too cocky for his own good and took the second fight he had with Rocky much too lightly. In his mind, he thought it was going to be a cakewalk like the first fight. Rocky showed him otherwise and gave him his first and only humbling defeat. Clubber was never seen nor heard from after that.
He was the best. He was ranked number one. ONE!
True. The real bad guy of the franchise is Ivan Drago. Mercilessly killed Apollo Creed and showed zero remorse. Even tried to do the same to Rocky.
Maybe we’ll see a reformed, elder, down to earth Clubber Lang in Creed III when Rocky eventually dies
Well Clubber was right in feeling disrespected, he threw it right back at everybody. He doesn’t have any reverence for great boxers of the past.
According to Stallone, Clubber would become a born again Christian (much like the real Mr. T) and become a ringside announcer. They were gonna use him in Rocky Balboa, but opted not to.
The only actor I want to see play the son of Clubber Lang is Chadwick Boseman.
Stallone’s body language is perfect. You can feel his fear and lack of confidence w out even saying basically a word

Mr. T has a rough around the edges demeanor with a heart of gold interior. That's part of Mr. T. This more glib, tout version of Mr. T was probably more prevalent from his bodyguard days, and tough upbringing but Mr. T probably said shucks in his real life. Remember, his mother went at him for saying "Hey woman" even though he was playing a character. My point is, the shucks might have been improvised. Mr. T apparently told Stallone when auditioning when asked why he wants this part that he's been Clubber Lang all his life.
That said, it definately sounds out of place here.

Most experts doubt it. Well those experts shouldn't be doubting Rocky. They weren't aware he wasn't at his best during the first match with Clubber. Rocky had Mickey, who had his doubts Rocky could win, & cautioned him about the fight, & Apollo who gave Rocky the right motivation.

While Drago was the most intimidating, Clubber was the most entertaining, he was all about the trash talking and attitude. He knew how to push buttons. It reminded me of the trash talking pro wrestlers did back then, it was fun to watch.
