I thought the steps were (1) watch heavily-sponsored TV shows for ideas (2) buy only a 6.2L Aluminum block with holes in the sides "to save money" (3) pay a welder $500 to do a crappy job (4) buy stage 4 everything (5) buy ARP bolts (6) Argue with people that you're right on the internet (7) realize that none of the parts will work together (8) Ask people over and over again how to make your pile of parts work (9) sell your parts on craigslist after realizing you can't figure it out (10) take what little you have left and buy a used Corolla "Sport".

Good advise, we just finished my sons LS swap for as cheap as a 16 year old kid could do it and it was a lot, but well worth it. And you are right about people who think they need 1000 hp, but will never use it, and don’t have a caged car with any tire or suspension to put that power to the track.

JR, perfect timing. I just got a beat 05 Yukon for $500. Complete running and driving unit. Yeah, the body and interior are thrashed, who cares. I will have every part I need to do my swap and will sell what's left. Your videos inspired me to go this route including thinning the stock harness and using the stock PCM. I should have a sweet 72 K20 when it's all said and done. Thanks, Brother for what you do here.

    • @lanejohnson7656

I gave $500 for my donor truck as well. Unfortunately waiting on the friend that supposedly wanted to help and do it in his shop waited to long and mice and rabbit chewed up the harness.. By best advice to people is don't procrastinate..lol
I pulled everything I thought I might need and just gave the rest of it to my friend that hauls scrap.. Wasnt much left good so I just let him have it.

I’m in that get the whole damn truck group. My buddy has had an 02 3500 cab and chassis 6.0 5 speed truck sitting around for about 8 years, parked it because the fuel pump went out. I just threw a $600 number at him for the drivetrain and said deal but you have to take the whole damn thing and get out of my way. I let that ride a couple weeks and then he needed help underpinning his house. So now I have the truck for absolutely no money out of my pocket. I can see where some profit from a swap.

I follow you for content like this. I don't want performance, just reliability and efficiency upgrades.
I've never swapped a engine and have only recently swapped my first 4l60e trans in my 99 Yukon. I plan to take it to a 0411 ECU just to learn how to do that for when I build out something else.
My in-laws have a 90 c2500 burb 454/4auto that is just begging for a modern engine. Beautiful truck but has all the reliability issues you'd expect out of a thirty+ year old GM. Its job was long distance towing through the desert/up long grades. It broke down three different ways in one trip. it's currently setting forlorn across the country until I feel comfortable enough to save it.

I like Richard and I love watching his videos.... but even he will tell you, making hits on the dyno is much different then making pulls on the highway. Stock computers are able to handle a stupid amount of boost, it's like 40+ psi I think.
For turbo, maybe a GT45. Super cheap. I think driveway engineer has a budget turbo video, I'll find that for you

I used to do the work all myself but I can't anymore I run into a strange problem I don't know if anybody of you have had it yet but I changed the radiator in my 2001 Chevy suburban put it aftermarket bigger aluminum one in there to get more coolant for a towing nobody ever told me or even mentioned that I have a problem when the winter time trying to get heat into the heater core somebody smarter than me figured out that the holes going into the top of the overflow bottle and needed to be restricted down from half inch inside diameter of the hose down to 5/64th
the other night when it was -22 air temperature not including the windshield I had a 182° coming out of the heater core on the dash my old bones appreciate that heat

First step sell the ls bs buy a modular ford v8 like the iconic terminator cobras 4.6l 4v that still to this day walks ls cars and hellcats or even coyote swap and have a way cooler car!

I think the modular are kinda cool BUT they make mediocre power and cost an absolute fortune for even a cam swap. If $1200+ isn't enough for cams then just go with the 5.0 coyote truck motor cuz they make a whopping 370hp for only 3500$ from a salvage yard.
