Do you live in America? Sometimes the ONLY cars available in a certain area are V8's, and its impossible to travel to find more as you DONT HAVE A VEHICLE. Some people are stuck without choice.

When i came back from Vietnam I bought a 67 427 4 speed chevelle. Ordered a 2 door sedan. Was the fastest car in my town for awile. Love rollin through the gears..think ill get a hellcat for my next birthday 76..
Stick with Chevrolet buddy! Get you a Corvette ZR1 that is the best pushrod V8 for longevity and performance mods. Can handle more power on stock internals then the Ford GT500 or Dodge Hellcat /demon. Do some research Chevy is the way to go. Plus the Corvette is a lighter car and has more power than the Hellcat. And will last longer.
Just wanna say this before I get deeper into the video, I will keep my N/A V8 over a Turbo V6 or turbo i4 that makes close too or more HP BUT will wear out faster due to the forced induction in a smaller engine.

@Shawn Kemp Lol..yea I would love to see those motors stuffed into who knows what! My earlier comment was about the declining quality of Chrysler products in general since Fiat bought them. That motor is awesome and I would love to stick one in my 1985 Dodge D150 truck! It just rolled 26k original miles and is like a time machine, all original.
@Shawn Kemp Yep I do! My dad worked for Pontiac Motors in Pontiac, Mi for over 31 years and we loved our 1974 3/4 ton Dodge truck more than any of the trucks we had. We used that truck to pull our tractor and equipment all over during the spring and summer as we plowed gardens and anything else we could do on the weekends and it never would quit. My dad is gone now for quite some time but he would have really liked the Dodge I have now. Man I sure miss my dad just as much today as ever. Take care!

Maybe Ford,Dodge,Chevy and some of the Euro automakers will try to keep V8s for their Muscle and Super cars,but one day even they will fall :/ I can already see how are car companies gonna get customers exactly into a position they want them to be when they release a warranty and batteries that will start malfunctioning right after it ends.

I personally love GM LS engines. They are simple, easy to fix, and very long lasting. My dad has a Suburban with 340k original miles. I have a silverado with 260k original miles.
You want to piss off a ford and dodge fans , ask them what is the most popular V8 engine in history . They hate it when I say "the Chevy 350" , that shuts them up every time.......well the ones that know what they talking about do 😊
You can get more than 300k with a 4 cylinder engine as long as its not american made. And still wont leak oil like every american car does after 3 years.
ASE certified here and you're all wrong about why a V6 twin turbo isn't good. Not due to leaking oil it's due to the fact that they are notorious for valve sticking issues due to carbon build up from the GDI into the combustion chamber and the timing chains have a lot of issues with the tensioners
I have a LS in my 2019 Vette, a Hemi in a Challenger and Coyote in a Mustang and never had a single issue with any of them. They all make great engines. The problem is not the engine, but the rest of the car.

300 hp is fun my mom's toyota sienna has that but my 750 hp 2004 twin turbo acura legend just puts a smile on your face every time the turbos spool up every time you are going 70 and you want to pass some one smoking your wheels when you do it or starting it up the smell of fule and the sound of the exhaust when it is open my nabors hate me in the morning I almost forgot the best part the turbo fluter when you release the gass that sound any car guy can hear that and just fall in love with it even though it's bad for the turbo
@@happysamoan97 Americans can use and will always use full size vehicles (Suburban, Tahoe, expedition, sequoia, Traverse, Explorer and Durango)! In majority of other countries you are lucky to see a midsize vehicle and they drive small size vehicles (fiesta, versa, fit and similar size vehicles).
Which is why I want a Chevy SS. A true modern day 400hp sleeper. It may not out run a Hellcat, but it will leave it in ditch on cornering and overall driving.

I had a 1985 Mustang with the 5.0 and a manual 5 speed. It would get 18 in town and 25-30 on the highway, usually 27-28. I am the kind of guy who calculated my MPG with EVERY tank on all of the 76 cars I have owned so far.

@@PanchoVilla-kk2ki The F150 Raptor 3.5 EcoBoost makes 450hp-510trq, the new 7.3 is projected to have 480hp-550trq and since it's not under boost it should last far longer and have a much better torque curve of power compared to the EcoBoost. Simply put the larger V8 makes more power while working less.
It's easy to work on and they can go over 300,000 miles easy, even abused lol but they aren't hp producer's sadly. Everyone will be electric and the only gas engines will be 4.6's lol

A challenger is only good in a straight line for power they have no cornering like a Camaro or Mustang , GM came out with the magnetic steering and then what do you know Ford has it too now .

I never reset the MPG monitor on my 2015 Mustang GT Premium which comes with the 5.0 V-8 and an optional auto trans. At 29,000 miles I'm averaging 23.4 on 75% city driving with 93 octane gas. I'm quite satisfied.
A V8 with around 400hp is the perfect power for everyday driving, it's pretty relaxing compared to smaller engines. My daily commute is mostly rural roads with hills and partly a lot of slow traffic like delivery trucks e.g. and by driving a 1.2 80hp car and later a 1.8 125hp van (those power figures are pretty common here in germany), I didn't need to even think to overtake someone, very frustrating... Now I have a 2013 Mustang GT and it's pretty chill cruising around listening to that beautiful sound, knowing that the power is there if I need it. Plus, that US V8 rumble is not that common in germany, it's very refreshing, especially the old V8's. Hope they'll never become extinct.
I thought I ought to have one V8 before I died, so I got a Tundra. With 4WD it cost $26,000. No it doesn't make a lot of power, but it has the burble and is beyond reliable and 20 years old, it will still outlive me.

You'd be surprised how easily you get used to 500hp then 600hp and so on, it's a progressive thing. The age of petroleum performance car sounds and all other sensory fellings are coming to an end. I long for the times of naturally aspirated carburetor sensor less cars when you pull up the hood and see a motor. There were only three things to go wrong fuel, spark and air. You could feel the car it was a driver's car. But high hp cars are not for young drivers, very easy for them to lose control they need a VW bug from the 80s.
I got a Sierra with a 350 vortec , a Coyote 5.0 in my Mustang and had Silverado with the 6.0 LS and all of them are simply amazing! Strong, Reliable and easy to find parts for them I love it!
The one thing 4-6 cylinder engines will never have is the beautiful low rumble and sound that a V8, any V8 makes. That sound is just perfect for a car enthusiast like myself. Dont get me wrong V6 engines can sound great but the V8 sound to me is unbeatable. Also too, only 4 cylinder that sounds really good are Subaru's boxer engines. They have a great sound hands down for them being 4 bangers.
Brian Flores your words are so true, I’ve always wanted the car manufacturers to build a very small v8 for that very reason rather than a 4 or 6 cylinder
@@micksmydad You are mostly correct with some exceptions. There are some v6s that are v8 derivatives such as the 3.8l Essex v6 found in 1990s-2004 Mustangs which idle sounding like a v8.
Toyota has at least three excellent V8s, the 4.3L, the 4.6 and the 5.7. Just change spark plugs and timing belt every 90k, otherwise silky smooth and bulletproof.
GregStickels in my personal opinion and experience any push rod motor is more reliable than say the over head cam motors like the coyote powered 5.0 mustang. That’s why LS motors are swapped in pretty much anything race ready including a vast majority of mustangs esp light foxbody’s. It’s got nowhere near as many parts as an 32 valve quad cam coyote and the parts are easy to find and cheap along with being a whole lot easier to work on. Dodge also uses push rod motors and their 5.7’s and 6.4’s are pretty damn stout if you take care of them esp the 6.4. Over head cam motors are nice and all, they’re able to turn more rpms and at a quicker pace than a traditional push rod V8 without having to worry about floating the valves but ford needs to use a stronger valve train because that set up puts more strain them. Example: my dad bought a 2015 zl1 camaro making 500 to the wheels in factory form. With only 4,000 bucks he’s bumped that number up to around 800 on motor and 900 on nitrous. Ive known dudes to spend 30,000 alone on a coyote motor just to make around 1,000-1,200 horses. My dad made 900 horses with only 4,000 AND he bought a power glide tranny that was 1500 by itself. Which is like I said another reason why the ls platform is the working mans power plant because it’s so cheap. Hell a stock ls bottom end whether it’s a 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, or 6.2 will hold 1,000 hp. Scotty can say whatever about GM but I truly believe they realize most of their loyalty is in their V8 platform which is why they focus more in that area and so far they have yet to disappoint. Sorry for the long reply but i judge my motors on how much abuse they can take and still run compared to your regular joe blow who rarely even drives hard enough to blow the carbon buildup out.
I enjoy your education / discussions as much as your mechanics presentations. You make it fun / interesting. All I will add is TORQUE, with a real car (not a toy) torque is what launches the steel.
392 hemi best performing. 6.2 LS/LT best modding platform & reliably. Coyote 5.0 breakthrough for ford for its only fast naturally aspirated engine since the old school 5.0. They all are great in they own way
YNIC Rambo Ls isn’t a better modding platform than the coyote. Coyote has been in the 5s and not a single Ls has been 5s. And coyotes respond a lot better to boost. Idk where you got that info
While I appreciate the video, I was expecting more talk about the "workhorse" V8s: Ford's 5.0 , Dodge's 5.7, and GM's 5.3. Of those ones, who would you say makes the best V8?
My brand new BMW M8 Competition with 1200 miles on it, suddenly died on the highway. Engine shut off but all instrument lights stayed on. Attempts at starting would not even turn over the engine. After about 20 minutes, it started and ran fine but check engine liight still on. Went to dealer and left it there for two days. No codes and no reason found for problem. Dealer drove it for 40-50 miles and no problem. No problem since after about three weeks. What do you think, Scotty?
Can't deny the Hellcat engine. everything else coming out of Chrysler is crap except that hellcat engine and the Jeep line. Fiat was the worst thing to ever happen to that brand. Don't get me wrong the Ram trucks are really nice on the inside and seam to run well but lets give it a couple years and see how the real world feels about it.
The ecoboost wont get as much mileage as your V8 when the ecoboost is being pushed but your V8 only gets good mileage when you drive it like a grandma and turn it into a 4 cylinder. Plus the ecoboost will outperform your V8 if and when you need power.
+David Your story is an outlier, a statistical anomaly, an anecdote, therefore we must dismiss it. Secondly, you have not proven what your repair costs have been. Just Get OUT!
I have a 2000 Lincoln Continental and i love the v8 in it. Smooth ride and even at 80mph on the highway i still get around 25mpg. I’m gonna definitely buy another
The best V8 engine in my view is one that gives you many many many miles without having too to many repairs. Nothing worse than a motor that has way too many components break down before the engine is put to pasture. But to extend the life of any motor you must use good synthetic oil and change the oil frequently because any oil whether it's conventional oil made of crude oil or synthetic oil, they both get just as dirty, so also pick your oil filter wisely and don't buy a cheap one. I have a Ford V6 5.4 L 3 valve engine, and although those motors have issues with roller followers, and VCTs that stick and make a ticking noise, I haven't changed any of those components yet, and I haven't ever changed the timing chain either. That being said, I only changed the starter at 290,000 miles, and everything else, I mean EVERYTHING is original. Truck has now 324,000 miles on it.
Buy LEXUS ... after all was made for you americans .... L imited EXport (to ) US ... then became its own brand .. L EX US ... the 4 .. 4.3 and 4.6 and 5Litre engines all do 500k ... i have the gs 460 ...had 430s and quad cam 4litres .. all 500km engines ...
@@jima3129 Sorry Jim, yes, I meant V8, that Ford F150. Six months ago, I had a radiator leak, so I had a mechanic replace the radiator at about 348,000 miles.
@@Brandon-yj4pw Hello Brandon. Concerning my 2005 Ford F150 V8 engine, I work as a landscaper, and my truck is always hauling soil or mulch. Knowing I "abuse" the truck somewhat, I always give it clean oil, and a WIX filter, or Motorcraft filter. I am now at 353,000 miles. Runs great!
Great video! I think the Hemi is 2 spark plugs per cylinder. It must have horrible gas mileage from 800-hp. I prefer the Chevy LS, but the Dodge Hemi is a thing of beauty.

The first few years of the 4.6L SOHC V-8 were somewhat underpowered, i.e. 1996-1998, as FMC didn't design the valve train to be free-breathing enough to make really big power. The Cobras were OK, but those had an aluminum block and heads DOHC hand-built 4.6L distinct from the SOHC version, which was an iron block. The Cobras made 305 hp, 300 foot-pounds of torque. The SN95 Mustangs, however, are celebrated as some of the best-sounding V-8s ever built. A well-set up 1998 Cobra can sound awesome, as can the 2003-2004 Cobras. The Terminators made what was, for the time, awesome power and torque from a small-block, 390 HP and 390 pound-feet of torque. Conservatively rated; the true value was something closer to 430 for both figures.
best V8 I owned was a St. Thomas, ON., '95 Ford CV 4.6L. smooth and powerful. great looking car as well. had Michelin tires. drove well. got a note from inspection team at the factory. those were the glory days never to return.
LS family of V8's are the best hands down. Inexpensive, reliable, powerful, decent mpg, strong and huge aftermarket support. People are literally swapping LS engines into everything.
I agree had a 90 camaro with the ls in it, beat it all the time and it never failed me once, move forward to just 6 months ago bought a a new ram with the 350 in it and every time i start the truck the engine sounds different ticks nocks, warble sounds sometimes sounds like it has no oil, i only have 20 thousand kilometers on it and its the worst engine i have ever had to rely on
Rick Wilson that’s a shame! It’s such a beautiful truck, i read the noises you hear have to do with the lifters. It’s a normal sound supposedly due to the hemispherical head.
4 cylinder and v6 engines sounds like a pissed off bumblebee in a beer can period. Nothing better than the v8.the only good thing about the little engines is they just save more gas for our v8 engines.
Gm LS/Vortec V8s . I work at a diesel shop but we also maintain a few fleets of delivery vehicles and most of them are GM gas V eights and those things blow my mind. We had a truck come in there the other day that needed a transmission and it was a 2013 or so 3500 Chevy with a 6.0 L V8 it had 689,000 on the original engine and the engine had never had any internal work done. We did have to put a transmission in it which wasn’t a big deal but the thing still runs like a scalded dog it just blows my mind how good it runs after that many miles pulling that big box truck. We have another 2500 sitting in the parking lot that has a 4.8 L Vortech V8 and it also has a little over 600 thousand on it. These trucks run two shifts a day day and night and sometimes they can go a week without the engine even cooling off during peak delivery times. they take a freaking beating. They are out lasting the diesel trucks working along side them. That’s why these team truck owners Are buying these versus the newer diesel’s being a diesel mechanic I don’t blame them at all . They’re way cheaper to maintain not enough difference in the fuel mileage to matter. I can’t think of any gas engine currently on the market that would replace these and give us good service for the same cost . The best thing about them is they’re not overhead cam and they don’t have all this modern complicated timing junk and they still get better than average fuel mileage for engines their size. The new little diesel Ford transits get pretty good fuel mileage but they’re junk and the Dodge / fiat pro masters are junk also we have a few of those that roll through.
Surprised the UZ-series Toyota V8s didn’t get a mention. They’ve been repeatedly proven to 500k miles and sometimes even a million. And the Lexus 2UR 5.0 is an absolute monster, equal competition with the Coyote for sure.
That is a very loaded question I've had some great Fords and great Chevys and I have a fleet of Chevy and Ford work vans and I have a 10 year old 1 ton Chevy van with a 6-liter that has 412000 miles on it and it's just as strong as it was the day I bought it new and you don't have to believe that if you don't want but those LS engines are strong strong strong. And trust me that thing does not get serviced very often maybe once or twice a year so honestly it's pretty incredible.
As a Mustang owner, I believe the LS platform is the best all-around, in regards to cost-effective performance and simplicity. The Coyote, for how inexpensive Mustangs are, have AMAZING potential and are an absolute dream with boost. The Hemi also has amazing potential, but seems really expensive to mod. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the "Big Three" though. They're all pretty good engines.
LS is only the most cost effective for sub-7000 rpm, sub-1100 rwhp. That includes most people but if you want to get wild the LS gets very expensive very quickly… and petty unreliable.
Well, considering my 2016 Mustang GT gets roughly 18 miles per gallon, the same as my 2001 Ford Escape 3.0 V6, but produces over twice as much power, I think I'm doing pretty good. I can squeeze more out of the Mustang if I want to... but I didn't buy it for gas mileage. I bought it for fun.
Your V6 video must have been made later, because I agree with what you said in that video about smaller engines having to work harder (higher rpm etc.) to turn out the same horsepower. When you have to do a lot of hauling of heavy equipment/materials you don't want an engine that is going to wear out for the same horse power. I hope the V8 is around for very long time!
Great vid Scotty! The Hellcat engine sometimes has a supercharger bearing that goes out, and especially if you use street slick tires the driveshaft can get twisted.
I only buy V8's or inline 6's, I don't care about mpg's either. Real trucks have an inline 6, or a V8, or a regular V6. A 20 year old V8 is still better than a newer inline 4
Another great vid Scotty and you picked the right mill, the 6.2 Hellcat as well as Demon engines are incredible and has enabled Dodge to single-handedly bring back the excitement of the muscle car era 2.0 with the release of the 2015 Hellcat. I have been thinking that whenever the 6.1 is ready to be rebuilt in my Challenger srt8, l will probably go with the 6.2 hellcrate. Now that they are more affordable for the average Joe, I'm sure that we will see a lot of them in the old A, B, and E body mopars in the future as well

The aggressive cam won't be as big a deal with my tranny being the tarmac(guy at work told me that automatics have problems with being streetable with aggressive cam, he's been seriously into drag racing for 30 years,think his mustang is like low 9 second car)

We use Chrysler 300’s as interstate taxis here in Iraq, they are pretty solid cars and they only break when they crash, I was surprised that you said they were no good. Btw: they drive them at 160mph from Basra to Baghdad only stopping for refuel

The LT4 is more comparable to Dodge and Ford. The LS9 and LT5 are certainly expensive

John Kizziah I knew a guy who did that and got a bigass 442 Olds. He said he averaged 8 MPG but he had a good time and he’d sure earned it.

Stick with Chevrolet buddy! Get you a Corvette ZR1 that is the best pushrod V8 for longevity and performance mods. Can handle more power on stock internals then the Ford GT500 or Dodge Hellcat /demon. Do some research Chevy is the way to go. Plus the Corvette is a lighter car and has more power than the Hellcat. And will last longer.

Just wanna say this before I get deeper into the video, I will keep my N/A V8 over a Turbo V6 or turbo i4 that makes close too or more HP BUT will wear out faster due to the forced induction in a smaller engine.

That motor is awesome and I would love to stick one in my 1985 Dodge D150 truck! It just rolled 26k original miles and is like a time machine, all original.
@Shawn Kemp Yep I do! My dad worked for Pontiac Motors in Pontiac, Mi for over 31 years and we loved our 1974 3/4 ton Dodge truck more than any of the trucks we had. We used that truck to pull our tractor and equipment all over during the spring and summer as we plowed gardens and anything else we could do on the weekends and it never would quit. My dad is gone now for quite some time but he would have really liked the Dodge I have now. Man I sure miss my dad just as much today as ever. Take care!

I personally love GM LS engines. They are simple, easy to fix, and very long lasting. My dad has a Suburban with 340k original miles. I have a silverado with 260k original miles.
Rebuilt my 6.0 L96 last year. VVT only, non-DoD. Full rebuild on the rotating assy and top end. Never have to worry about it again.

ASE certified here and you're all wrong about why a V6 twin turbo isn't good. Not due to leaking oil it's due to the fact that they are notorious for valve sticking issues due to carbon build up from the GDI into the combustion chamber and the timing chains have a lot of issues with the tensioners
I have a LS in my 2019 Vette, a Hemi in a Challenger and Coyote in a Mustang and never had a single issue with any of them. They all make great engines. The problem is not the engine, but the rest of the car.

300 hp is fun my mom's toyota sienna has that but my 750 hp 2004 twin turbo acura legend just puts a smile on your face every time the turbos spool up every time you are going 70 and you want to pass some one smoking your wheels when you do it or starting it up the smell of fule and the sound of the exhaust when it is open my nabors hate me in the morning I almost forgot the best part the turbo fluter when you release the gass that sound any car guy can hear that and just fall in love with it even though it's bad for the turbo

Americans can use and will always use full size vehicles (Suburban, Tahoe, expedition, sequoia, Traverse, Explorer and Durango)! In majority of other countries you are lucky to see a midsize vehicle and they drive small size vehicles (fiesta, versa, fit and similar size vehicles).

I had a 1985 Mustang with the 5.0 and a manual 5 speed. It would get 18 in town and 25-30 on the highway, usually 27-28. I am the kind of guy who calculated my MPG with EVERY tank on all of the 76 cars I have owned so far.

@@PanchoVilla-kk2ki The F150 Raptor 3.5 EcoBoost makes 450hp-510trq, the new 7.3 is projected to have 480hp-550trq and since it's not under boost it should last far longer and have a much better torque curve of power compared to the EcoBoost. Simply put the larger V8 makes more power while working less.
The 7.3 has a great deal more to offer than peak horsepower 🙄🙄

A challenger is only good in a straight line for power they have no cornering like a Camaro or Mustang , GM came out with the magnetic steering and then what do you know Ford has it too now .

I never reset the MPG monitor on my 2015 Mustang GT Premium which comes with the 5.0 V-8 and an optional auto trans. At 29,000 miles I'm averaging 23.4 on 75% city driving with 93 octane gas. I'm quite satisfied.

A V8 with around 400hp is the perfect power for everyday driving, it's pretty relaxing compared to smaller engines.
My daily commute is mostly rural roads with hills and partly a lot of slow traffic like delivery trucks e.g. and by driving a 1.2 80hp car and later a 1.8 125hp van (those power figures are pretty common here in germany), I didn't need to even think to overtake someone, very frustrating...
Now I have a 2013 Mustang GT and it's pretty chill cruising around listening to that beautiful sound, knowing that the power is there if I need it.
Plus, that US V8 rumble is not that common in germany, it's very refreshing, especially the old V8's. Hope they'll never become extinct.

You'd be surprised how easily you get used to 500hp then 600hp and so on, it's a progressive thing. The age of petroleum performance car sounds and all other sensory fellings are coming to an end. I long for the times of naturally aspirated carburetor sensor less cars when you pull up the hood and see a motor. There were only three things to go wrong fuel, spark and air. You could feel the car it was a driver's car. But high hp cars are not for young drivers, very easy for them to lose control they need a VW bug from the 80s.

I got a Sierra with a 350 vortec , a Coyote 5.0 in my Mustang and had Silverado with the 6.0 LS and all of them are simply amazing! Strong, Reliable and easy to find parts for them I love it!

The one thing 4-6 cylinder engines will never have is the beautiful low rumble and sound that a V8, any V8 makes. That sound is just perfect for a car enthusiast like myself. Dont get me wrong V6 engines can sound great but the V8 sound to me is unbeatable. Also too, only 4 cylinder that sounds really good are Subaru's boxer engines. They have a great sound hands down for them being 4 bangers.

Toyota has at least three excellent V8s, the 4.3L, the 4.6 and the 5.7. Just change spark plugs and timing belt every 90k, otherwise silky smooth and bulletproof.

After watching this I just have one question. Who makes the best V8?
GregStickels in my personal opinion and experience any push rod motor is more reliable than say the over head cam motors like the coyote powered 5.0 mustang. That’s why LS motors are swapped in pretty much anything race ready including a vast majority of mustangs esp light foxbody’s. It’s got nowhere near as many parts as an 32 valve quad cam coyote and the parts are easy to find and cheap along with being a whole lot easier to work on. Dodge also uses push rod motors and their 5.7’s and 6.4’s are pretty damn stout if you take care of them esp the 6.4. Over head cam motors are nice and all, they’re able to turn more rpms and at a quicker pace than a traditional push rod V8 without having to worry about floating the valves but ford needs to use a stronger valve train because that set up puts more strain them. Example: my dad bought a 2015 zl1 camaro making 500 to the wheels in factory form. With only 4,000 bucks he’s bumped that number up to around 800 on motor and 900 on nitrous. Ive known dudes to spend 30,000 alone on a coyote motor just to make around 1,000-1,200 horses. My dad made 900 horses with only 4,000 AND he bought a power glide tranny that was 1500 by itself. Which is like I said another reason why the ls platform is the working mans power plant because it’s so cheap. Hell a stock ls bottom end whether it’s a 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, or 6.2 will hold 1,000 hp. Scotty can say whatever about GM but I truly believe they realize most of their loyalty is in their V8 platform which is why they focus more in that area and so far they have yet to disappoint. Sorry for the long reply but i judge my motors on how much abuse they can take and still run compared to your regular joe blow who rarely even drives hard enough to blow the carbon buildup out.

Yes, truck V8s are the most mass produced versions and the daily workhorses. I doubt the V8 is going anywhere soon because of that market.

My brand new BMW M8 Competition with 1200 miles on it, suddenly died on the highway. Engine shut off but all instrument lights stayed on. Attempts at starting would not even turn over the engine. After about 20 minutes, it started and ran fine but check engine liight still on.
Went to dealer and left it there for two days. No codes and no reason found for problem. Dealer drove it for 40-50 miles and no problem. No problem since after about three weeks. What do you think, Scotty?

Can't deny the Hellcat engine. everything else coming out of Chrysler is crap except that hellcat engine and the Jeep line. Fiat was the worst thing to ever happen to that brand. Don't get me wrong the Ram trucks are really nice on the inside and seam to run well but lets give it a couple years and see how the real world feels about it.
LS style are IMO, the best overall. My truck 5.3 gets better mileage than a 3.6 eco boost.

The ecoboost wont get as much mileage as your V8 when the ecoboost is being pushed but your V8 only gets good mileage when you drive it like a grandma and turn it into a 4 cylinder. Plus the ecoboost will outperform your V8 if and when you need power.

I have a 2000 Lincoln Continental and i love the v8 in it. Smooth ride and even at 80mph on the highway i still get around 25mpg. I’m gonna definitely buy another

The best V8 engine in my view is one that gives you many many many miles without having too to many repairs. Nothing worse than a motor that has way too many components break down before the engine is put to pasture. But to extend the life of any motor you must use good synthetic oil and change the oil frequently because any oil whether it's conventional oil made of crude oil or synthetic oil, they both get just as dirty, so also pick your oil filter wisely and don't buy a cheap one. I have a Ford V6 5.4 L 3 valve engine, and although those motors have issues with roller followers, and VCTs that stick and make a ticking noise, I haven't changed any of those components yet, and I haven't ever changed the timing chain either. That being said, I only changed the starter at 290,000 miles, and everything else, I mean EVERYTHING is original. Truck has now 324,000 miles on it.

Great video! I think the Hemi is 2 spark plugs per cylinder. It must have horrible gas mileage from 800-hp. I prefer the Chevy LS, but the Dodge Hemi is a thing of beauty.
Hemi’s valve placement is far superior to the LS’s in-line wedge arrangement.

The first few years of the 4.6L SOHC V-8 were somewhat underpowered, i.e. 1996-1998, as FMC didn't design the valve train to be free-breathing enough to make really big power. The Cobras were OK, but those had an aluminum block and heads DOHC hand-built 4.6L distinct from the SOHC version, which was an iron block. The Cobras made 305 hp, 300 foot-pounds of torque. The SN95 Mustangs, however, are celebrated as some of the best-sounding V-8s ever built. A well-set up 1998 Cobra can sound awesome, as can the 2003-2004 Cobras. The Terminators made what was, for the time, awesome power and torque from a small-block, 390 HP and 390 pound-feet of torque. Conservatively rated; the true value was something closer to 430 for both figures.
best V8 I owned was a St. Thomas, ON., '95 Ford CV 4.6L. smooth and powerful. great looking car as well. had Michelin tires. drove well. got a note from inspection team at the factory. those were the glory days never to return.
LS family of V8's are the best hands down. Inexpensive, reliable, powerful, decent mpg, strong and huge aftermarket support. People are literally swapping LS engines into everything.

I agree had a 90 camaro with the ls in it, beat it all the time and it never failed me once, move forward to just 6 months ago bought a a new ram with the 350 in it and every time i start the truck the engine sounds different ticks nocks, warble sounds sometimes sounds like it has no oil, i only have 20 thousand kilometers on it and its the worst engine i have ever had to rely on
Rick Wilson that’s a shame! It’s such a beautiful truck, i read the noises you hear have to do with the lifters. It’s a normal sound supposedly due to the hemispherical head.

Gm LS/Vortec V8s . I work at a diesel shop but we also maintain a few fleets of delivery vehicles and most of them are GM gas V eights and those things blow my mind. We had a truck come in there the other day that needed a transmission and it was a 2013 or so 3500 Chevy with a 6.0 L V8 it had 689,000 on the original engine and the engine had never had any internal work done. We did have to put a transmission in it which wasn’t a big deal but the thing still runs like a scalded dog it just blows my mind how good it runs after that many miles pulling that big box truck. We have another 2500 sitting in the parking lot that has a 4.8 L Vortech V8 and it also has a little over 600 thousand on it. These trucks run two shifts a day day and night and sometimes they can go a week without the engine even cooling off during peak delivery times. they take a freaking beating. They are out lasting the diesel trucks working along side them. That’s why these team truck owners Are buying these versus the newer diesel’s being a diesel mechanic I don’t blame them at all . They’re way cheaper to maintain not enough difference in the fuel mileage to matter. I can’t think of any gas engine currently on the market that would replace these and give us good service for the same cost . The best thing about them is they’re not overhead cam and they don’t have all this modern complicated timing junk and they still get better than average fuel mileage for engines their size. The new little diesel Ford transits get pretty good fuel mileage but they’re junk and the Dodge / fiat pro masters are junk also we have a few of those that roll through.

Surprised the UZ-series Toyota V8s didn’t get a mention. They’ve been repeatedly proven to 500k miles and sometimes even a million. And the Lexus 2UR 5.0 is an absolute monster, equal competition with the Coyote for sure.
I agree, I have a 95' LS400 and an 03' Tundra. Both V8 and one has over 320k miles and runs great, forever properly maintained.

That is a very loaded question I've had some great Fords and great Chevys and I have a fleet of Chevy and Ford work vans and I have a 10 year old 1 ton Chevy van with a 6-liter that has 412000 miles on it and it's just as strong as it was the day I bought it new and you don't have to believe that if you don't want but those LS engines are strong strong strong. And trust me that thing does not get serviced very often maybe once or twice a year so honestly it's pretty incredible.
That 6.0, together with the 6 speed trans, was bullet proof.
People sleep on chevys still the best cars on the street. My old Equinox lasted so long with a shitty transmission from the previous owner.

My 2004 5.7 L Hemi Dodge Ram was one sweet engine. Had it for 13 years and never had a problem with it. Lots of HP and torque.

My dad had a Impala back in the 70s loved that V8 I was a kid but I loved it it was big and tough and pure heavy metal.
As a Mustang owner, I believe the LS platform is the best all-around, in regards to cost-effective performance and simplicity. The Coyote, for how inexpensive Mustangs are, have AMAZING potential and are an absolute dream with boost. The Hemi also has amazing potential, but seems really expensive to mod. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the "Big Three" though. They're all pretty good engines.
LS is only the most cost effective for sub-7000 rpm, sub-1100 rwhp.
That includes most people but if you want to get wild the LS gets very expensive very quickly… and petty unreliable.
I bought a 2017 Challenger 392 scatpack shaker and it gets combined 20mpg, got 27 when i drove out west. no problems

Well, considering my 2016 Mustang GT gets roughly 18 miles per gallon, the same as my 2001 Ford Escape 3.0 V6, but produces over twice as much power, I think I'm doing pretty good.
I can squeeze more out of the Mustang if I want to... but I didn't buy it for gas mileage. I bought it for fun.
Your V6 video must have been made later, because I agree with what you said in that video about smaller engines having to work harder (higher rpm etc.) to turn out the same horsepower. When you have to do a lot of hauling of heavy equipment/materials you don't want an engine that is going to wear out for the same horse power. I hope the V8 is around for very long time!

Great vid Scotty! The Hellcat engine sometimes has a supercharger bearing that goes out, and especially if you use street slick tires the driveshaft can get twisted.

I only buy V8's or inline 6's, I don't care about mpg's either. Real trucks have an inline 6, or a V8, or a regular V6. A 20 year old V8 is still better than a newer inline 4

Another great vid Scotty and you picked the right mill, the 6.2 Hellcat as well as Demon engines are incredible and has enabled Dodge to single-handedly bring back the excitement of the muscle car era 2.0 with the release of the 2015 Hellcat. I have been thinking that whenever the 6.1 is ready to be rebuilt in my Challenger srt8, l will probably go with the 6.2 hellcrate. Now that they are more affordable for the average Joe, I'm sure that we will see a lot of them in the old A, B, and E body mopars in the future as well

The aggressive cam won't be as big a deal with my tranny being the tarmac(guy at work told me that automatics have problems with being streetable with aggressive cam, he's been seriously into drag racing for 30 years,think his mustang is like low 9 second car)

We use Chrysler 300’s as interstate taxis here in Iraq, they are pretty solid cars and they only break when they crash, I was surprised that you said they were no good. Btw: they drive them at 160mph from Basra to Baghdad only stopping for refuel
