Cool info! Seems capable enough to cruise at 70 and pass at 80 if really needed. That's quite good factory gearing for my specific objective of taking trails to the supermarket and coming back by the highway.
I just bought as new KLX 300 and I can only get 76 mph out of it. Not broken in yet though. I’m around 195lbs. 6’ tall. It’s smooth at that speed though.
For reference, my stock 2009 250s goes the same top speed in 5th or 6th gear. At 4800 feet elevation it is 78 to 79 mph indicated with 46/14 or 42/13 gearing. My speedo is about 10% optimistic, too.
The speedometers on modern bikes in general show 5-10 % faster speed than real speed. So you should check the speedo with a GPS device (on your phone for example)
Good testing, I liked the real world situations. I wonder how far off the stock speedo is. My WRR was off by almost 10% vs. gps. My KLX250S was off also but I forgot how much. Both bikes picked up a few mph after a couple thousand miles. My WRR hits 86mph corrected if I talk sweet to it so that would be over 90mph stock reading.
Thanks! Stock speedo is about 10% overrated. I have always ran off of the speedo in my other videos, so I did in this video to keep it consistent. As long as you are passing or keeping up with traffic, that's good enough for me
That's all you really need with a dual sport. My xt600 will go 100 wound out pretty hard, it starts getting the death wobble much over 75 though and isn't fun at all at that speed. I think it's the wind buffeting the fender.
I have the 300R and I could not get past 65mph on a GPS speed-o. The engine was completely rung out and screaming. 6th gear could have been taller for sure as there is barely a difference from 5th.
For all you KLX riders Viking Bags has some fantastic gear, got the saddle bag for my MT and SXR when they first started and was blown away from the quality and the price there is a 15% off code on there site and they make bags for all most every bike now. Go to there site scroll to dirt bikes click Just ordered the saddle bag made for the KLX and the headlight handle bar bag and the fender bag super they have a photo with the bags on the bike looks great. After the first instal it's a 5 min install from then on and loads of space to cary stuff. Super quality and at a price well check it out. They have a tank bag but don't like the position and with the other 3 don't need it. Ride safe my fellow riders.
Pretty much everyone who's posted top speed runs on the new 300 has hit between 83 and 89. That's pretty consistent. They're geared for (and optimistically alleged by the factory to be capable of,) around 100, but I get the feeling the factory used a 12 year old girl from Thailand as their test rider for that to be realistic. 🤣 Stock, I think you got what we get. Mexico looks awfully lush these days. You must be in Chihuahua? 🤔 See you in the next video my dude.
🤣 Their bike must've been remote controlled, with no added weight, to achieve that speed! Mexico has been on top of their game; I've been visiting way too much lately lol
On my 250L the indicated speed is not the actual speed. The speedometer reads fast. I've never done a test to see how far off it is. Do you know if the speedometer is calibrated correctly or if not, how far off it is?
When I had my KLX300 cruising at 70 was ok but anything past that there was a fair bit of vibration and just seemed like the motor was screaming. It’s definitely capable for a short highway runs but I personally wouldn’t want my bike sitting at 7-8k rpm on the highway.
Every KLX300S is different from the manufacture to the milage and the brake in. Will give you a good example I have 2 MT09's only differance is the color and one bike is way faster than the other one 🤔🤔 The KLX300S / KLX300SM are curb jumping, wheelie lets get stupid have a blast slow running fast bikes, if you wanted a 300cc bike to do over a hundred and get there faster all the Japan manufactures make 300cc sport bikes. Just signed the paper work for my sons 2021 KLX300SM so we will see what both of these bikes will due as we break them in and mod them up. On the radiator do happen to know what size MM fitting goes in the KLX300SM radiator hose for the add on water temp gauge and were do thinks the best spot in insert it or it really does not matter 🤔 Will keep you up to date on the KLX300SM build this should be fun, please ride safe my friend.
A small duel sport has no purpose for passing vehicles on the highway at over eighty miles an hour. In other words, it looks pretty highway capable out of the box to me.
Like you said and showed in a previous video the ds klx300 seems to have something happening at the top end thats draining power... does the klx300r not have this problem? And if so would it be possible to use parts from the 300r to up the power? Also just did some knarly single track with my klx300... including rocks and stuff. Started noticing a vibration sound near the bottom of the motor when im riding slow... i noticed you have a t rex skid plate on your klx351 I have one on my klx300 do you think thats causing it or have you heard that before?
People have told me what their 300R's have made, but I have not seen a dyno graph to see where it makes power. You would have to change out the whole electrical system to use the 300R components. My skid plate does rattle at lower speeds. The front of it rattles against the frame.

I think its because Kawasaki has more emissions leeway on offroad bikes... The 300R ignition can be spliced in, as well as earlier KLX250/300 ignitions, but it would be ideal to used the entire 300R ignition and fuel harness, so you can control fuel and ignition with a Powercommander. You can adjust fuel and ignition on the R, and it has a better ignition curve to begin with, making it more capable, and a solution for 331 and 351cc. My 250 would go faster than this, w/FMF Q4 and Powercommander, but it would take a long time to accelerate past 95mph displayed (~88), but it would slowly crawl up. Stock 14Tx42T gearing.

Definitely! Stock gearing works just right for what I have done with it!
You produce alot of interesting content. Thank you. You've earned another subscriber.
Thank you for the support! Welcome to channel!
Right on. Good info. As long as I can cruise at 65 to 75 then I'm good.
Thanks! I'll do that all day long!
My 125 does that haha can’t believe a 300 struggles to do another 10mph even thought the engine is more than double the size
Don’t know of any street legal 125s from the factory. Your comparing 2 different bikes.
@@DN4AGDX my aprilia rx 125 4 stroke and Yamaha wr125 4 stroke both sit comfortable at 65 my wr does 72 on the flat and has hit 81 down hill

It is surprising to most people how smooth the bike can be! I know I was shocked riding my 250 for the first time at least
Ive gotten 85 mph im 230ibs death wobble caused me to back off 75 is comfortable

Right on. Mine is on order. Should be in around July.
Huge congrats! I can imagine you are more than excited!
My top is a consistent 88 mph slight bar wobble drafting but nothing dangerous
Nice! 🤙

The fact that this slipped my mind in the video 🤣

Hows that stock seat feeling?
you done anything to airbox and the ecu tune? Wondering what's out there...
Only removed the airbox lid, nothing can be done to the ECU yet.
Not bad at all for a stock trail bike and it really looks good.
Agreed!

I took my KLX250 on highway runs all the time. My 351 vibrates more than the 300, but I still find it smoother than other bikes I've ridden

rpm @ 85 mph?
I want to say 70 MPH is around 7K. So if I remember correctly, 85 MPH was around 8K.
Fuel range ?
The fuel light comes around 80 miles. The reserve is 0.7 gallons.

It is indeed! Nice to know that you're not totally stuck in traffic and have some room to breath
Kawasaki speedometer reads 10% higher (verified with GPS). 88 mph is actually 79.2 mph. You just can’t go off the speedometer readout.
My 2002 300R goes 80 stock
Very nice!
Cruising on hwy 26.

I suggest you get tucked in,burry your helmet to the speedometer for a full tuck, you will pickup more speed, hence less wild resistance
