    Palafin is a Pokemon that is broken in singles, and decent in doubles, but why is that? Watch this video to find out why! Also, this video talks less about fixing the ability, and more about the differences between Palafin in singles and doubles, as that is, in my opinion, one of the more interesting things about the ability zero-to-hero.

    You’re right on Storm Drain being common but most people are choosing to run Amoongus/Brute Bonnet to handle Palafin since they’re easily slap-able on teams. Storm Drain is a hard wall on Palafin but there’s not many good ones aside from Gastro who’s pretty rare.
    Palafin’s biggest drawback in Doubles is how reliant it is on switching out that it’s a liability to not have it lead and instantly switch. Giving your opponent 2 free attacks is why it’s so balanced in Doubles, there’s also the fact that Palafin in doubles has 4 Moveslot syndrome.
    In singles, Palafin only needs to use a Bulk Up Taunt Close Combat Jet Punch set since it blanket checks everything in the metagame. In doubles however there’s so many moves it wants to use but can’t. It wants Close Combat for Wo-Chien and Bonnet but it also wants Wave Crash for Power but it also wants potentially Encore or Taunt to stop Amoongus.

    3:31 This critique makes no sense because singles isn't designed for 6v6 anyways, it's designed for 3v3, thus the drawback is just as well designed.

      I would argue that as singles is the way that the single player game is played, it is important, though yes, when it comes to competitive play, it is best to consider how well an ability is designed for doubles, as you have said.

      @@blip_exists ??? I didn’t talk about doubles at all. Ranked singles online is done in 3v3. As for the single player campaign there’s just so much more broken stuff, for example spamming x items and potions pretty much gets to through everything as it is.

      @@GodzillaFreak Oh wait, hah, I spaced out there, I thought you where talking about doubles, sorry. And yeah, Single Player doesn't count, so I guess it would be well designed? I don't know how good Palafin is in singles, but if its balanced in 3v3, I do agree with you that it is then a well designed ability.

    Having to swotch out is hardly a drawback for such a massiive gain. If it were me I'd of made him weaker or made it so of you switch out again you go back to the small fish again. I get that yhey desogn things based off of doubles but they should think a little about how broken things could be in singles as well, includong smogon! Smogon is just as valid and more balanced than even yhe 3 V 3 si gles thats ghe official way to play it. Hate it all you like but 6 V 6 singles is far superior...

    • @blip_exists
      @blip_exists  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I mean, Game Freak has no reason to consider Smogon. Smogon is almost a competitor to Gamefreak, so it really doesn't make sense for it to be designed around 6v6, as Gamefreak doesn't care about singleplayer balance at all.
