They give us the liberty to pay for things later. But is it always a win-win situation for us as far as credit cards are concerned? How do credit cards work? And how do the issuers of credit cards, who pay on our behalf, earn profit from them? Also, what are the things that you should keep in mind while getting a credit card?

When one buys something of a higher value using his credit card, then there is an option to covert the purchase into EMI of 3, 6, 12 months, etc. Of course, there is an interest element, but still it is a good option.

I also feel that the cycle of Credit Card statement and the payment is kept separate to confuse the people even more as with the day to day lives and busy schedules, one tends to disregard the expenses and complicate the situation even further !! The simple solution is to not bite more than you can chew and keep a strong vigilance on the the expenses.

You can have amazon pay credit card if you want to buy your regular groceries or goods which you were going to buy anyway... If you're able to pay for it at the moment then credit card and it's rewards are great. But if you get too enamoured by the rewards then it'll make you want to buy more... That's the problem people should be financially disciplined to know when to spend and when not to and when to use credit card and when to pay via debit

But with credit cards I was always a little apprehensive since I didn't know what it exactly was and how to use it.

Missed few points I guess, annual charges waived off when you spend over and above a certain amount on your credit card in a year. I am using credit card for last 4 years and never paid annual charges.
He's not an expert in credit cards, this video is for people who don't understand CC at all.
The problem with cards with annual charges is that, in future if you like some other card, and want to stop using your previous card, they will make it super difficult for you to close a credit card. At times, they will close it and then silently activate it again, on the card expiry date, and will send you a new card, on some old address, "by mistake".
And with 999/year fees, and further penalties and interest on that, you will be owing them a huge amount after few years for "nothing", either when they call you for collection, or when you notice your well managed credit score getting hurt. HDFC has done this with me.
They know that they can't do it legally, and they still do it, knowing that most people will just pay them the stupid bills (free money for the bank), and won't really go to the court. Even if you decide to sue them, it will be much harder to get your credit score repaired again.
So, always prefer a lifetime free credit card. And free means free, not "free if you spend X amount".

And also the waiver is offered, just to make you spend more. That's what happens with simple discounts also. One buys more just to get the offer thinking he would miss out on something lucrative, and ends up purchasing unnecessary things.
@@joy-ow4ey exactly nowadays the banks earn mostly by that way, its not USA where ppl are forgetful and stupid enough to fall in the debt trap, indians are usually so much aware about spending even little extra money too, hence the main way of earning for these banks is the partnership with multiple firms like flipkart , amazon,mynthra, swiggy , zomato,etc . When ppl see a cashback or reward of 5-10% and think they are making up like a profit of say few thousand bucks they dont realise they are also spending much more. Hence credit cards can be good for ppl who have a habit of spending a lot online due to their high earnings.

Sorry if it wasn’t clear. But they also earn through very small percentage of fees that is charged every time you use a credit card. The money comes from the merchant

One thing that Dhruv didn't mention is that once you have brought down you balance to zero on your credit card and you no longer wish to use it, just keep it active but don't use it. If you deactivate or cancel it then it will reduce your credit score especially if you have been with that credit card company for a long time.
