    Woa, suddenly…P-TRAP! Damn subterranean surprises. Hopefully the tourniquet works, otherwise I imagine we’ll be looking at some sort of cascade when you have something more to show us. But hey it’s looking healthy and you appear to take great care of your trees so what could go wrong? Cheers bro.

      @baldyeti  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the tourniquet fails, I’ll attempt full ground layering next. No cascades for me. Regardless, it’ll be a few years until we have something worth lookin at twice. All part of the fun.
      I appreciate your attention this morning, brother.

    Good work Billy! Definitely needed that tourniquet.
    Btw, tourniquets can ocasionally go wrong, the bark can callus over the wire before new roots emerge. so if you see that happening, peel off the wire and put a thicker wire, wrapped double or triple. In any case CEs are so resilient, you can do almost anything and it'll pull through ok.

      As this is my first CE, I’m learning as I go. Already discovered the rumors are true about how readily cuttings root. Good call on callusing over the wire (should have just done ground layering). I appreciate the solid 2¢, Dave!

      @@baldyeti also, with all those cuttings, you can go crazy with CE experimentation!

    Looking great! Seems to love the new pot & soil too. And I really l love the time lapse style video. I'm trying to incorporate more of that into mine but I just started taking clips a few months ago so it might take time to build up. Anyways, love the Chinese elm!

      Hehe, thank you, Toy. Yes, I sat on video for over a year before I started putting them together. But I do like seeing what happens throughout the year, and seeing the cause and effect.

    Looking good. Chinese Elm are my favourite trees to play around with. I have plenty 😁 can't wait to see the progress 😊

    Awesome and action-packed!! More work for you, more learning for me😁😁. Great learning how to sort out these problems together - I know I will need some of these techniques next year! Tree has grown beautifully this year + great crop of offspring. I see a CE forest surrounding a Bald Yeti cave in your near future!!

    • @baldyeti
      @baldyeti  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well thank you, SueB!
      I take it you have recently acquired a CE and are planning a play-date for spring?
      I keep hearing the CE is pretty resilient so hopefully I’m not pushing it too hard. Time will tell, and I have the genetic clones for back-up, just in cases.
      Good call on the cave and forest. That could be fun!

      @@baldyeti Haahaa - play date is with unknown elm seedlings and a bunch of other problem children. Never know what you get till you lift the soil!!

    Bro first tree was air layered branch so that was smartest to regrow new roots. But they grow so fast so no problem ,it will be nice tree in future. Yep and smart thing take cuttings and make your own tree's.

    I don’t know if YT pays attention to the Description. But putting a summary of all that and a bag of cats might help with searching/finding. And I think you can use the #Chinese #Elm #Bonsai tags for searching and YT might group your video with other similar vidoes. You packed a ton of things into this vid!

      I appreciate you watching my back, brother. Between the weekend, kids, and just life happening, time got short for uploading last night. I set the release time and started uploading, and then passed OUT! Forgot to get back to that stuff until this morning. Thank you again!!

    Alaska? You are growing your bonsai indoor. I am living in FL and moving to PA. I am fretting over my trees not making in PA. Like to learn from you and what works indoor. Thanks.

      Hopefully your move north is a desired move, and then congrats.
      I try to keep my trees outdoors every summer. But if it’s a cool summer, they might stay inside. I have tropicals, Mediterranean, semi-cold hardy (zone 5 and above) and cold hardy (zone 4 and below). All “thriving” in their own way.

      And welcome to the world of cold Bonsai. There’s a large community of us, and we are happy to have you join us!
      I might suggest The Bonsai Zone (Canada) and Dave’s Bonsai (Minnesota). Two excellent resources for northern bonsai climates.
      But please, Mike, I’d love to start a conversation with you, good sir.
