This video has inspired me to keep fixing my 2000 Dodge Dakota 2w drive, 4.7 engine. Mine has 184,000 miles. It's very dependable. I just put in a new radiator in mine. I just need to save up for a paint job.
@TheJoe636 Amp is a Blaupunkt PnP THA475 If you don't have the premier sound package on your truck or the inifinity system Blaupunkt makes a wiring harness for our trucks that makes the amp 100% Plug-n-Play. But if your truck is exactly like mine you'll have to make your own harness or hand wire everything. Also, the lift wasn't bad. Just make sure you take your time and check all your brake lines while lifting the front end. I snapped a rusted line that leads to the back and had to replace them
@jacklee952 It's a Performance Accessories 3" Body Lift. Rancho used to make a 3" suspension lift for the 2000+ dakotas but the discountinued them a few years ago. The current tires I believe are 265/75R16 which is about 30.6" tall. I would highly recommend a michelin tire for anyone. I bought the truck in 2007 with those same tires on it. They seem to last forever.
@TheTexasCoder Blaupunkt makes a wiring harness that will hook up to their amp for the Dakota WITHOUT the Infinity Audio System. If you have the Inifinty Audio System you just have to hand wire the connections, which isn't that hard. But other than that its practically Pnp. Right now it pushes aftermarket Infinity Components and a pair of coaxial Alpines.
@8010cookie To put in the factory bracket and fog lights it should be a simple plug and play. Minus the cutting of the holes. But there should be a wiring harness somewhere on the truck to hook up the factory lights. However, to go from no fogs to aftermarket fogs may be more difficult. Though I am not really sure.
@joeldude76 Thanks. The only downside to a Quad cab is if you want to put a system in you either remove your rear seat or lose the folding functionality. Though the Quad Cab has a plus side as being a people carrier.
@burganb323 This is my first Dakota, I've had full size trucks and I've had the rice burners. But I'm surprised the tires are in as good shape as they are! I'm wondering if its the Dakota being lighter or the Michelins? Maybe both?
@AoMxGeNeSiS Originally, the upgraded amp was installed to push enough power to two Kicker SSMB6 MidBass Drivers that I had replaced the rear door factory coaxials with. Later, one of the Kickers blew (possibly a voice coil). Never got around to looking into it. So I placed a pair of Polk DB651 Coaxials in the rear doors, which didn't really need the extra power but I wasn't going to get rid of the amp. Later, the Polks were replaced with a pair of Alpine Type-R Coaxials.
man you dont have to know a whole lot to do stuff like that...you just need the time the tools and the will to figure it out....get on a forum for your truck and ask questions people love helping you out...thats how i got started and now im starting the modifications on my second truck and this one is going to be awesome!
@Geraldtoo Yes, Michelins are quite worth the money. My Dad used to work for Michelin as an Engineer and he said the Engineers used to cry over the tires that Michelin would fail during the final check. He said they would throw out (usually recycled later) tires if even the rubber was discolored, but it passed everything else.
It was more of an upgrade than you may think. Went from paying over 60 to 70 USD to fill up a truck that got 15 MPG to paying 30 USD to fill up a sports car that gets about 28-30MPG city and up to 40MPG highway.
@joshua6200 The one originally on the truck was a 68 with the factory step down. The new one was a true 65 with no step down. The 65 is better for low end torque. I would not recommend anything higher than 70 on a 4.7l. You'd have to be highly modified and even then I doubt the 75 would be worth it.
@SavardRn Yopu can get the Body Lift through Performance Accessories, but I didn't get it from them or any of their dealers. I was lucky enough to be browsing on of the Dakota forums, I'm on and someone had a New-in-box Body Lift that the were selling due to moving or something like that.
thats a nice dodge dakota quad cab i got a 99 ford ranger and its a great reliable truck but the next truck im gonna get is a 2001 dodge dakota quad cab they look just like my fathers 2004 dodge ram 2500 quad cab and i might also so a 3 inch lift cause yours looks great like that so nice truck i give you props for it.
hey man, nice truck i love it. i also have a 2001 dakota slt 4x4. got it ike 2 months ago and i love it, havent driven anything i like better. but ive been thinking about lifting it, any advice?
If you don't mind me asking how much did it cost for all of the modifications because I'm looking to do this my '02 Dodge Dakota. I really like what you did and I would like to do it.
+AJ Bohata Honestly, I don't remember off the top of my head. I remember I got the Body Lift on a closeout deal. The Stainless Steel hard brake lines were pricey but they'll last forever (OE ones snapped while installing body lift due to rust). I'll see if I can go back and see if I have any old records left of the trucks mods cost.
Nice ride, just watch the rust under &front& rear links& bushings.Im doing it now. salt on the road in the winter will rust it out.I have 2001 dakota 4.7 great& nice 4wheel truck.
I did some digging on Dakota-Durango and found my old build thread. Follow this think to read how I did the LED fogs: www.dakota-durango.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118930 There are a handfull of pictures showing how to do it as well. Also, at the end of the thread there are pictures of just the amber running lights and the fogs on if you're curious of light coverage
The factory Throttle Body is not a true bore it is a step down system goes from larger to smaller diameter. This Throttle Body was a true bore (same diameter all the way through). It helps with airflow, throttle response and some low end torque.
Brad, it is not BBK, at the time of the purchase of the throttle body there was a member of Dakota-Durango.com forum was porting and polishing the throttle bodies. I bought direct from him. He also had a tutorial on how to make the modifications yourself to your own TB, but I didn't have the time to mod my own TB, so I took my business to him.
@burganb323 I'll agree on the Michelin's! Bought my 03 Dakota June 2010 (with the tires), rotated them every 3rd oil change(every 3k) and can tell a diff.265/75R16 Michelin M/S. They cost a little more but last longer=$. BTW nice Dakota!
Yes, definitely! Just get one that has been taking care of and maintained. My '97 had 194,000+ miles on it before someone hit me head-on and it was totaled. Never left me stranded and did whatever I wanted.
Amp is a Blaupunkt THA 475 Pnp Amp. Got it from my Dad. Still have that amp. It's a great amp and Blaupunkt is a pretty great audio company. Not sure if you can still get this amp in the states.
If you have the non-Premium audio factory package they make a 'Plug and Play' wiring harness. However, I had the Dodge Premium Audio option so I had to rewire the amp in myself. Also, I tucked it in the passenger foot well kick panel. Which I have a family friend machine some custom bracket out of aluminum to mount the amp securely. It was quite a nice set-up. Looked like it came from the factory that way.
dang are u a mechanic? i wish i knew this kind of stuff... i want to work on my truck .. looks like a fun thing to do.. but i dont know jack shit about cars haha.. also how much would u say u spent doing all modifications?
Braxton Burgan Did you do any mods to get better mileage? I just bought a 2004 Dakota and I am only getting 14mpg. Already ran Seafoam through gas, oil, and vacuum line. Then I switched it to Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Planning to install a cold air intake and hoping it boosts my gas mileage.
nwpentax Run 100% synthetics in it. Run 93 through it every once in awhile. DO NOT install a cold air intake. The actually pull in more heat than the factory system. Don't let anyone tell you different. Only thing I ever did to it was remove the box over the throttle body to make a straight bend tube. But most important is your driving style. If you drive with a lead foot or hard accelerate you destine for the 15 MPG mark.
Actually, if you understand the concept of reducing rotational drag, you get better gas mileage the larger your tires are... but that would be with on road tires, the tread on mud/off road tires aren't designed for fuel effiecency.
I need that kit info I just bought a 2000 and I'm searching videos how can I lift it to make it look better and deffenelly I wnt sell it .I love old trucks .old fashion better than new shit .old FASHION trucks are for real men .new GPS, back camera and more shit are for dumb people .
This video has inspired me to keep fixing my 2000 Dodge Dakota 2w drive, 4.7 engine. Mine has 184,000 miles. It's very dependable. I just put in a new radiator in mine. I just need to save up for a paint job.
i get the new throttle body, but why not also put a k&n cold air intake system on it?
Got my 04 dakota 4.7 with 133k miles I'm the second owner first owner was a older fellow who babied it love the truck.!
@TheJoe636 Amp is a Blaupunkt PnP THA475 If you don't have the premier sound package on your truck or the inifinity system Blaupunkt makes a wiring harness for our trucks that makes the amp 100% Plug-n-Play. I no longer own the truck but I did many mods to it... so I am still fairly knowledgeable about modifications.
@joeldude76 Thanks. The only downside to a Quad cab is if you want to put a system in you either remove your rear seat or lose the folding functionality. Though the Quad Cab has a plus side as being a people carrier.
Nice to see someone else that has a truck that's the right color lol. I just finished my hid projectors also, and have a video of them on my page.
@burganb323 This is my first Dakota, I've had full size trucks and I've had the rice burners. But I'm surprised the tires are in as good shape as they are! I'm wondering if its the Dakota being lighter or the Michelins? Maybe both?
Nice truck Braxton Burgan, I like the 3" lift and what you did with the headlights. Take good care of it and you will go along ways with it.
Thanks, Eric. But Actually I sold the truck a few years ago. I replaced it with a much smaller, more fuel efficient Toyota MR2 Spyder.
Big Blue is still going strong. She lives in NC now and pulls my camper every once in a while.....
Zeo Benedetti Now that I've added a motorcycle to my garage, I miss the truck for towing. Glad to here the truck is still pulling strong!
@AoMxGeNeSiS Originally, the upgraded amp was installed to push enough power to two Kicker SSMB6 MidBass Drivers that I had replaced the rear door factory coaxials with. What kind of lift kit is that? I have a 2003 Dodge Dakota same color to. Another thing is what size are those tires? 31?
@8010cookie It should be relatively easy to install factory fog lights. I replaced mine because the lenses had crack and water had gotten in them.
where did u get your body lift from?? how much was it? and how long and how difficult was it to install it??
@SavardRn Yopu can get the Body Lift through Performance Accessories, but I didn't get it from them or any of their dealers. I was lucky enough to be browsing on of the Dakota forums, I'm on and someone had a New-in-box Body Lift that the were selling due to moving or something like that.
@burganb323 Any difference in the new throttle body? Was thinking about getting the Edelbrock 75mm... THANKS!
I have the exact same truck but white. What size tires did you have ? and where did you get the lift?
Beautiful truck I still have my 2004 same as yours
I have a 99 and a 2000. Love my Dakotas.
@ford77100 Thanks. About the cleanest looking thing right now is the lights and the hidden amp.
I would say its a clean build but you should color match your bumper and mirrors
@8010cookie I used to drive a black on black 2003 Sport 2wd, but the 4wd has lower miles and is more of a fun truck.
hey bud that's a really nice truck. thanks for the LED idea for interior lighting
hey how easy was it to install headlights and fog lights i bought a set of each and dont know how
Make sure the pair you bought fit correctly and right size. Also the ones that come in 2 sets are easier to install than ones that are one set
Nice work but the music.... WTF! Lmao!
Lukedawg Dangle it was for a Freshman level English class and the professor had a list of artists that she said we could use.
Braxton Burgan got ya
where did you find your lift kit? and accessories?
Nice Truck!! I like the AMP install. I have the same exact Dakota, minus the 4WD. Did the Blaupunkt amp plug directly into the factory harness?
If its a one piece headlight it'll be a PITA but two piece set is easy... Fogs are fairly easy as well.
Nice. How do I get ahold of the guy who made your retrofits? Can I buy some for my Dakota too? Thanks!
You could always DIY through the Retrofitsource. That's who he got parts through
thats a nice dodge dakota quad cab i got a 99 ford ranger and its a great reliable truck but the next truck im gonna get is a 2001 dodge dakota quad cab they look just like my fathers 2004 dodge ram 2500 quad cab and i might also so a 3 inch lift cause yours looks great like that so nice truck i give you props for it.
thats cool! how much would you say the exhaust, and 3" body lift cost if you install yourself??
what does that upgraded amp do?
where did you get the body lift?
hey man, nice truck i love it. i also have a 2001 dakota slt 4x4. got it ike 2 months ago and i love it, havent driven anything i like better. but ive been thinking about lifting it, any advice?

Dude, nice truck! Very very clean!!
Where did you buy the clear corner lights from ?
Not a mechanic, but I am going to school for engineering. Just always been mechanically inclined...
do you rememeber the maker of the lift kit you installed?
Lift wasn't too terribly bad. It can easily be done in a weekend... just be careful with your hard brake lines...
Where did you get the led fog lights?
I did some digging on Dakota-Durango and found my old build thread. do you happen to still have his info? thanks
hi that's a bad ass truck we should talk
@burganb323 I'll agree on the Michelin's! Bought my 03 Dakota June 2010 (with the tires), rotated them every 3rd oil change(every 3k) and can tell a diff.265/75R16 Michelin M/S. They cost a little more but last longer=$.

The truck in this video was my first truck.
dont mind me asking. but the lift kit you put on did it cause to much of a angle for CVs or is it ok
+boone Honeycutt The 3" lift is a Body Lift. So no changes on the angle of the CV joints.
Thanks
What brand are the headlights/ Who sells them?
It's not a brand. They are custom retrofit one-offs a friend in NY made for me.
Tengo una para reparar
Well if you only drive around city I can understand. But why an MR2.
Because I've always wanted one...
off the top of my head, no I dont remember. But there is only one 3" body lift made for the dakotas of these years.
You say that there is only one 3 inch body lift available for 2000 Dakotas?
@@TripTheLineFantasic yes. Supreme suspension, i think.
Good lookin truck! what kind of amp is that? Where did u get it?
Amp is a Blaupunkt THA 475 Pnp Amp. Got it from my Dad. Still have that amp. It's a great amp and Blaupunkt is a pretty great audio company. Not sure if you can still get this amp in the states.
Did you need a harness/Adapter to Install the Amp?
If you have the non-Premium audio factory package they make a 'Plug and Play' wiring harness. However, I had the Dodge Premium Audio option so I had to rewire the amp in myself. You are very welcome, Happy to help if you need anything else.

is that got the 4.7 or 318
It's a 4.7L
I bought one of these today
I like that Dakota.
@202491931 Sound pretty nice. But I'm not going over the top.
nniiiiiiccccceeeeee man im jealous
Молодец!!! Very cool!!!
You still have to truck.
HOKIES BABY!
Kinda funny, my dad owns the truck in this video
How's the truck treating him? Still running these days?
Braxton Burgan yeah, we havnt use it much but we drove it in the mountains a couple days ago and its doin great
Hokie hi!, got 2000, thanks
Hi, its a nice truck but a stiff ride and sucks up gas 4.7 motor.check out my twin air filters on 01 dakota 4.7
I was getting like 20-25 MPG in mine
Braxton Burgan Did you do any mods to get better mileage? I just bought a 2004 Dakota and I am only getting 14mpg. Already ran Seafoam through gas, oil, and vacuum line. Then I switched it to Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Planning to install a cold air intake and hoping it boosts my gas mileage.

If that truck was a girl I would marry her
The music 😴
You traded for Japanese? Trader!
traitor**
I need that kit info

Cant believe you sold this truck for a fucking toyota. Especially a MR2
Ha. I have this truck now :)
