This is the real reason for dress code in IT companies.
Service based companies (Eg. Infosys, TCS) have external clients and have mandatory client visits. So this makes them follow a formal dress code and it is like a sign of respect to the client and to maintain the company's name with the client because business is driven by them.
Product based companies (Eg. Facebook, Google, Amazon) do not have external clients and all of their work is consumed by internal teams only. So no need of a dress code.
