I'm asking, because at 3:15 and +, you mention that there are side entries, but that are separated from the main compartment; followed by stating that it's not providing front access to the main compartment... And that's it, up until the end of the clip... However, I've read that this backpack HAS front access to the main compartment*, is this actually the case?
I was absolutely not clear on this. I appreciate your question, and attention to detail. The front pockets do not pass into the interior. There is however a zipper on the front of the bag that allows full access to the main compartment. To be clear, the main compartment can be accessed by opening the top (helmet), or by a zipper on the front of the pack.

I don't have personal experience with the stout, but my understanding is that it is very comparable. From what I can tell it is lacking a few features bringing the price point and weight down from the Baltoro. It's a newer pack with less reviews, but Gregory makes great gear. I'd say if you are comfortable with the design and pocket layout, it's a great option.
I'm so tired of hearing backpack weight as the first thing mentioned in a review as if it was the most important thing. It's down on the list of things to judge, abou backpacks and using this stat is lazy. It's a truck and nobody is choosing tractor trailers based on how much they weigh, but how much weight they can carry well. For other things weight does matter and adds up, but most people will choose based on spec sheets so it's a great marketing point, which will sacrifice durability and load suspension which can't be put on spec sheet. Also, it's rare to see a review which actually carries the intended load for a few days to test suspension, instead of focusing on zippers and pockets.

how much you can compact the bag?
There are straps to keep the load compact and tight, but in terms of the whole bag folding up and compacting, not that well.
How would this compare to the Stout?
