Truly amazing that osprey can fight to grab that fish and hook it, with nothing other than wings swim back up to surface and to be able to pump his wings hard and fast enough to take flight with the large added weight of the fish, the fact that he’s soaked, the waves crashing into him, and the fish wiggling under water to get away. That’s just amazing to me

It enables them to pull their prey upwards out of the water and then switch to horizontal flight. This is why the US military named their unique vertical-takeoff-or-landing aircraft the Osprey.

The osprey is my spiritual animal and if there is a second life I’d love to be one. They’re so majestic and well evolved. Every year I watch them build their nest, hunt and watch the hatchling grow right out my back door. I literally watch the babies grow up and come back home to my backyard. They are awesome!!!!

The effort to fly from the sea would be huge. Wings hampered by the waves plus the weight of the fish. Amazing bird.
