  • The heat just keeps on keeping on here in Texas. Regardless of how how healthy your soil is, or how thick your lawn might be, you're probably starting to see some form of drought stress in your lawn. This can take on many different shapes and sizes, but today we're focusing on dry spots. Dry spots have many different causes, so today we're discussing how to diagnose why a dry spot might appear, and then give y'all several different options for treatment. Pray for rain!

    Central Texas here (Austin). Love your channel right now, because it's the only one I've seen with a fellow Central Texas homeowner who has to play this game on HARD MODE right now in Summer 2023. Cracks me up when I see dudes in other states posting videos about how "It's been in the 90s nonstop! We haven't had rain in five days!" 😆Man, I wish we had it that easy. Thanks for this video. Exactly what we need down here.

    Is there a point where you will raise the hoc to save the grass?

    In Central Texas, I put some bio advanced lawn root moisturizer on mine. We are only allowed to water by irrigation once a week. It’s staying green, but I have a couple of dry spots I have to hand water once in between. I’ll probe those two areas as you suggested and see what is going on. Thanks for the tips!

    “Throwing the kitchen sink at it” I feel you brother lol this summer has been brutal. I’ve been using liquid soil lossener by Simple Lawn Solutions and it’s been working for my hot spots.

    I've been spraying humic acid + HEB baby shampoo on the yard and watering 2 x week and the yard is slowly fading. The humidity is lower than normal so although we are also hitting 100 during the day it has cooled off to the low 70s at night. 100 + low humidity is very tough on the lawn. A herd of deer are bedding down each night on the zoysia (Zorro) and I picked up 3 chiggers just walking through the yard. I spread Sevin for the chiggers and as a chinch bug preventer before irrigating last night. The deer are really feeling the drought now and are starting to browse the bougainvillea. I have to spray my Japanese Maples (Bloodgood and Baton Rouge) with Deer Off + pure capsaicin oil to protect them from the deer. I need to aerate but I don't think the aerator would pull any plugs right now - just bounce across the yard.

    Yeah my yard looks rough! Yours looks great man! Im trying The Andersons Hydro Charge tomorrow, its supposed to be like Hydretain and also have something to break up the soil so its less hydrophobic. A lso had grub dmg and im hoping that recovers soon too. I didnt get enough preventative down i guess lol. Its been a tough summer here in NB

    Great video! How frequently and what amount of water/wk do you have to apply to keep your shortcut turf looking so great in this extreme heat wave? Appears from the screwdriver test you are keeping the soil moist at all times.

    Is it best to aerate in the fall? Would aerating in the spring introduce more weeds?

    Hey Rhett, new to the channel, im from San Antonio, and one of the groups I follow on facebook recommended you. i have a question regarding your trees. since you have bermuda, what do you plan on doing to make sure you get sun on that lawn? I messed up myself by wanting grass and a tree all at once so I had them put a live oak in, then I put fresh Bermuda sod down. it wont affect me for years probably same as you, but I just wanted to know if you have a plan to take care of grass in that aspect?

    Did you put the baby shampoo in that Ortho sprayer with the surfactant, or was that just surfactant and water?

    Biggest problem I have w/ hose end sprayers is my water pressure. It just isnt enough to run it right. I have to backpack sprayer everything...and no rain in the forecast :(

    I’ve been gone for almost 28 days now and I am scared to see how much the yard needs work upon me being gone. I’ve had a buddy mowing once a week and the irrigation has been once a week but just so damn nervous.

    So you just applied surfactant only?

    • @LawnInsider
      @LawnInsider  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Applying surfactant initially with the idea that when you water those spots later on, water will soak up more easily.

    My lawn looks like your neighbors...a little greener though. My neighbor waters his lawn all day and crawls around plucking weeds...he is obsessed with his lawn. We are under a water restrictions in my county but no one comes around to fine anyone. He stands at the edge of this green lawn looking at mine all the time. I think the dude is a dick so Im not in a hurry to do anything to my lawn. I'd rather be on my Harley and ride then water my lawn..lol. Our properties are much bigger..my front is almost 35,000 sq feet. Im on a 3 AC parcel. Good tips to keep in mind when I decide to fix my lawn..lol
