Before I got it cut, my hair was like, halfway down my back, and had been that way for years. So thanks Pierce Brosnan, my biggest man crush, for inspiring me to have short hair again, which I absolutely love

Where TWINE wins points for me is the villain Elektra. I wanted more from the other one, especially since his set up was more akin to a classic Bond villain but Elektra singlehandedly picked up the pieces and became something unique. One thing I hated about TND was the villain; seriously Darth Sidious is more likeable than him.
Such a cool movie when it came out. Was also my first time seeing Bond in the cinema, and I was so stoked when it came out. Love this movie to this day. The Dalton movies are something special to me, though - as they were the first 'new' home release Bonds which I saw, and loved them from the very beginning.
My favorite bond film of all time and the one that got me into the franchise also Famke Janssen/Xenia Onatopp is still the sexiest woman to ever grace the bond films.
"For England James?" "No for me." I saw that in so many memes following the recent collapse of the Arecibo Observatory in Arecibo Puerto Rico. Excellent Bond movie definitely one of the best and absolutely the best story Brosnan had to work with.
As a little kid in the 80s I saw both Timothy Dolton films but wasn't mature enough to even know what I was watching. As a teen at 14, I saw this and absolutely LOVED it, and like all kids my age, had an even bigger stamp on my heart from this film due to the classic N64 game. Lots of amazing 4-player party nights with friends with that one. Loved its excellent parallels that game had with the film. Always thought the villain chick Xenia Onotop was one of the hottest women I've ever seen
Yep this was a huge deal. I forget how old I was when this came out, but. I had been a bond fan since was only about 5 or 6 years old. I was beyond excited to finally see a new bond film in the theater.
This bond also has the best soundesign in its Soundtrack. I love the instrumentation and the sounds they used. Rare also did a good job in reimagine it for the n64 game.
This film brought bond back the casual viewers who are not familiar with the in and outs of the 007 books and films instead of catering to the hardcore Ian Fleming fans. I grew up with this film and it was the first bond film I ever watched. GoldenEye is a top 10 bond film and a personal favourite of mine. What a great action film for the 90s. Easily a very memorable action film for the 90s. It's up there with T2 and The Fugitive. Brosnan was so perfect for this role and glad he did because he's one of most memorable action stars in the last 30 years. GoldenEye is a 10/10 film.
Goldeneye is easily one the best Bond films! It was the first Bond I ever saw and as you mentioned, an important movie in regards to my love of video games. I personally like the score for the film, its an acquired taste fore sure. The best scene in the film is the Q worksop scene and the idea that Bond thinks a sandwich could be a gadget haha. Great video once again mate!
It was the first Bond movie I got to see from a vhs rental at 13. I had seen Never Say Never Again and Moonraker on tv, but this was the first time I got to see it unedited, without commercials or analog interference and on a 32 inch screen which was awesome at the time. It was quite the experience. And I know everyone rags on the soundtrack but even to this day I enjoy those cold anvil strike sounds throughout the movie, as a reminder that the USSR had recently fallen but could still be a threat. Great movie.
Been waiting on this review.... Goldeneye will always be THE Bond film for me. Yeah, I'd seen all the previous films via the old TBS Bond-a-Thons, but this was the very first one I saw in theater. Brosnon was on point in this film, and yeah the villains were probably the best since the SPECTRE days during Connery's time in the tux. Sean Bean (he who dies in 95% of his films) was great, and let's face it. Famke Jansen stole the show. Personally the best aspect of Goldeneye is not only was it the first Bond film I saw in theater, but I've seen ever Bond flick in theater with my father since this one. Its a marvelous tradition that I'm very grateful to have.
Goldeneye is Pierce Brosnan's best movie. It's sad his next movies slowly went downhill. Despite all of that he is still one of the best and most charismatic Bonds of all time
@@NeverSaySandwich1 I like it, for the most part. Its biggest problem is its split personality. It actually has a lot in common with Skyfall (M in danger because of her past mistakes, a deeply personal conflict for Bond) and Brosnan pulls off those elements beautifully. But the makers weren't confident enough at that point to let a Bond movie rest on that, so we got Christmas Jones for the sake of having an "Oh, James" type ending. (You'll notice that Daniel Craig's first three movies did NOT have "Oh, James" endings.) Just think how much more effective TWINE would have been if it had ended with Bond and M reflecting on Electra's betrayal...
@@jenniferschillig3768 The Craig movies miss out on so many key elements of the Bond movies. TWINE at least remembers what it is by the end. It doesn't end on a sour or depressing note, it ends on a high note with a fun one liner and a wink to the audience. The Craig movies are sometimes too serious and really suck the fun out of the movies ex. Quantum and Spectre especially
I loved this movie when it came out. One thing that also makes this movie special was Goldeneye on Nintendo 64, which is not only one of the best movie licence game in videogame history, but also made first person shooters work on consoles.
I love Goldeneye and Eric Serra's score! Especially during the pen scene. But for me Tomorrow Never Dies is the better film and best Brosnan entry. That movie is awesome and holds up surprisingly well today. Looking forward to that video!
Yeah, I've always thought that Tomorrow Never Dies tends to be underrated. I'm not sure I'd say it's better than Goldeneye, but it's a fully worthy successor. Plus, it brought David Arnold into the series - easily the best Bond composer after John Barry.
When Q talks about traffic laws the east Pierce Brosnan gives him a slight double take is great and shows Pierce knows how to be subtle with his comedy as well as direct.
when u talked about the trailer, and the pressentation of brosnan i was overjoyd, i was a james bond fan, was at this time as u in high school, gonna se my first on the big screen and it was magic, brosnan has always been a mix of connery and moore, theirfor a perfect bond, so goldeneye is great
I completely agree Brosnan is a outstanding Bond, its criminal that he was let down by weak scripts and movies, especially the last two, WINE and DAD. I actually played the game first before i ever saw the movie and i was amazed seeing the movie, all the locations that the game got spot-on.
Goldeneye will always be one of the best Bond movies of the 90s! Especially, the best video game for James Bond. The cast was perfect, the theme song, as well as the storyline
4:31 to this day, the cut of Brosnan fiddling with a bomb while bullets ricochet just above him and his only reaction is nonchalantly tilting his head without breaking focus is beyond cool
I remember the impact of this film so well. At the time I was a music student and I went to see it at the big odeon in Glasgow city centre with a gang of my friends. Everyone in the cinema went mental after that opening sequence and cheered at the end of the film. The theme song is awesome, but you're right about the score. Eric Serra has composed some great soundtracks but his style just didn't suit bond. I didn't realise the tank chase has been re-scored, but it makes sense as it is the only bond sounding part of the entire score! That one element is the only slight letdown for me. I rewatched the film recently and I still love it so much. I'm looking forward to your next review 😁
It's gonna be weird when you get to "Die another day" and you finish the previous video by saying: But that's a story for another day... We had pretty much the same Bond experience: my Bond was Roger Moore, and my first Bond at the movies was Glodeneye!!! Great as usual, thanx!!!!
Hands down my favorite Bond movie and my favorite Bond! The game was the first fps I ever played and this is the movie that got me into the franchise. I love every aspect of this movie. Sparked my celebrity crush on Famke Jenssen, and my admiration for Bronson as an actor. Fantastic video, keep up the great work
I always thought the intro was the best of all bond movies. Running past the the gate down the dam, being out of breath hooking up the bungee, and diving off the dam while it’s almost silent.
I enjoyed seeing this, since a lot of people seemed to have forgotten how important Goldeneye was to keeping the franchise going, and what a big deal it was when it came out. I've seen lots of people panning it lately, and being dismissive of Brosnan as Bond. I mean, at the time, critics were hailing Brosnan as the best Bond since Connery. Like you, I was a teen when it came out, and it seemed like everyone was going to see it, even if they had never seen a Bond film before. It's still one of my favorites.
Goldeneye is one of the very best Bond films of all time. It's fantastic. I like how you have highlighted the different dynamic between this version of M and 007 in comparison to the Craig films. I'd like to add that Dench literally plays 2 separate versions of the character. In the Brosnan films she is seen initially as a modern, cold, number-crunching statistician before they develop a relationship based on mutual respect, whilst as stated, she views Bond as a 'relic of the cold war". In the Craig films it is she who is fact the relic of the cold war, she literally expresses a longing for that time.
I was so excited for this installment of James Bond Revisited since this was my first James Bond film i have ever watched at the cinema as a teenager. I never liked as much ,any other James Bond film !
Two things. 5:20 one that was an actual stunt. It was done for real. A paratrooper actually did catch up with the plane. The stunt paratrooper actually slapped the back wing with his hand. There was no CGI done in this film, except for the beginning credits. The rest of the scene was done with a model airplane and Pierce Brosnan and a green background climbing into a mock model. This was done all the time and every James Bond movie ever made, dating all the way back to Dr no.
@@venturatheace1 the satellite scenes were all done with models and hand drawn special effects. In fact the first time TGI has ever done in James Bond movie was in die another day. They used a stuntman to do the surfing scene in the North Pole.
I was A nostalgic Roger Moore fan as well. My dad got me into the James Bond films but this was also my first James Bond film in the theater. It was so exciting and Pierce Brosnan is now my favorite. The airplane scene at the beginning as a little over the top but I’m willing to suspend my disbelief for Bond.
I really enjoy these videos! Review is dead-on- Brosnan is easily at his best in this film, and the Bond films wouldn’t make the effort to get everything right again until Casino Royale. Good as Brosnan is, though, I think Martin Campbell is the MVP- he gets pitch-perfect performances out of everyone, and I think I’d see Dalton differently if he got to say this movie’s dialogue with this movie’s director. I remember Brosnan describing Campbell as constantly riding him to be “cooler.” That explains, for instance, why he’s so entertainingly aloof in this film’s action scenes while he’s constantly grinding his teeth and ad-libbing grunts in the subsequent films- Brosnan didn’t always have the best “Bond” instincts and he deserved more direction to get everything right. I also blame the producers for wanting Brosnan to gain weight for subsequent Bond films. He may have looked unimposing to older fans but he had a brains-over-braun, Jason Bourne thing working for him in “Goldeneye.”
@@aquamonkee Brosnan was great as an assassin in 'The Matador', and Dalton was perfect as Simon Skinner in 'Hot Fuzz'. But yea, Dalton has a better acting range I reckon and would make a better villain.
I've long wished that Dalton had been cast as the villain in Skyfall, without any explanation. He would have been great, and would have driven the continuity theorists mad.
I always thought the same thing, bring back old bonds as villains. They really don't seem interested at all though. I remember at one point Roger Moore was pitching a movie with ALL of them, even saying he and Sean would need stunt doubles for anything other than walking through a doorway.
This is one of the best and finest Bond movies if not the best. I have a tough time deciding over 'The Spy Who Loved Me' and Golden Eye, Spy was my first bond movie, when I was in junior school. My mouth was open from the first Ski love making scene to the last love boat love making scene
Being a huge bond fan and watching all the movies at this point hundreds of times. I will say that I love all bonds. Thunderball was always my number one, its hands down an amazing movie that captures everything bond. But then I saw Goldeneye, Pierce hands down just killed it. He was everything you expected bond to be, Good looking, Charming, but deadly serious while making one liners with a smirk. And let us not forget Sean Bean being a phenomenal "bad guy" His performance was on par. Tell me you cant hear " ITS CLOSING TIME JAMES LAST CALL", "BUY ME A PINT" in there voices. I also loved JudI Dench as M. And when it comes to Brosnan Golden eye is top tier, but if I''m being honest Tomorrow never dies and the world is not enough are both amazing movies as well, But die another day was dumb. Daniel Craig has taken us to a new era of bond. Although i do miss Q and such aspects. Im happy to see that be abandoned for a more serious take. And I think true bond fans would agree that after the actor that played Q for all the movies died, " Always have and escape plane, Never let them see you bleed". No one could really fit that role, I know they had a replacement lined up, but im happy that wasent continued. If your not going to make Richard Ayoade Q then just leave it.
Goldeneye was my first Bond as well. It's dated in a lot of ways, but it's just so damn good to me. When I think of "James Bond" I instantly think of Pierce Brosnan in his stealth suit at the beginning of this film.
Seeing it in a crowded theater, the audience applauded when Bond pulled off that very first stunt, diving after the plane. Yeah, it was cheesy as hell, but it was so fun. It may just be the time in my life when it came out, but Goldeneye is one of my favorite Bond movies and Brosnan is my favorite Bond.
7:05 the reason that Judi dench portrays M differently with Daniel Craig then with Pierce Brosnan is because it's a totally different M. Yes it can be confusing to have the same actor play the same role but differently. But the casting department really felt like they should have at least one element left over from the previous Bond installments. Judi dench was willing to play a different M so she was cast. I personally believe that when you do a reboot you should make sure you have an entirely new cast. Rehashing the same actor for the same role but portrayed differently is confusing to many audiences, especially in America. This is why today's actors are not recycled in the same shows anymore. It was commonplace in the 60s and 70s to recycle actors into the same series as different characters. But as audiences become more and more detailed oriented they get confused when they see an actor portraying a different character in the exact same series. The only time this isn't confusing to people is when the actor has to wear some kind of makeup to make them look different. But this is done mostly with bit actors on science fiction shows. Even then there are people who create ridiculous theories to explain why actors look the same. Such as the andorian on Enterprise is a genetic cousin of a ferengi on deep space nine and a Kardashian on Star Trek the next generation. Ridiculous theories in order to help people cope with the idea of an actor playing multiple roles. To this day there are still people who think that Judy dench of the Daniel craiger is the same M as the Pierce Brosnan films.
I always looked at it like this: Judi's chemistry with Pierce was more of a partnership that evolved into a friendship Judi's chemistry with Daniel was more of a Mother-Son relationship She was excellent as both, which is part of why I rank her right there with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as far as that Trinity of Generational Talents that paved the way for theatre actors to become movie stars 🌟🌟🌟
I'm a musician & I totally agree with your analysis of the score. Really lame in most spots! I'm a Timthy Dalton fan, but agree that this is Brosnan's best outing. Agree totally with your number rating for aspects of the film. Thanx for all your hard work!
@12:31 Laser cutting the train floor. CGI. Laser painted in after filming the scene. Time on the Omega Seamaster used in the scene was 8:50:25. Time does not change throughout the scene. Laser emits from 12:00 position, from triangle bezel marker. Since it's a fantasy, this position is as good as any and has added benefit of watch/laser visual alignment.

I hope that when he gets to "the world is not enough" he gives it the credit it deserves. that movie is so good and people just love to hate on it because of Christmas Jones. infinitely better than tomorrow never dies.
Golden Eye was fricken amazing for kids in the 90s, and then n64 came around and took it to another level.
Such a cool movie when it came out. Was also my first time seeing Bond in the cinema, and I was so stoked when it came out. Love this movie to this day. The Dalton movies are something special to me, though - as they were the first 'new' home release Bonds which I saw, and loved them from the very beginning.
Legitimately one of my favorites! Thanks for doing this one!
The 1st Bond I watched in a theater. I still remember the excitement
I'm 50 yet this is my absolute favorite Bond movie.
I am only 35 but Goldeneye is my favorite James Bond film and been a Bond fan since I was 8 years old and seen and own every Bond movie.
I have no idea what your age has anything to do with this
My favorite bond film of all time and the one that got me into the franchise also Famke Janssen/Xenia Onatopp is still the sexiest woman to ever grace the bond films.
The opening to that teaser trailer is just... Wow... So epic
"For England James?" "No for me." I saw that in so many memes following the recent collapse of the Arecibo Observatory in Arecibo Puerto Rico. Excellent Bond movie definitely one of the best and absolutely the best story Brosnan had to work with.
One of the best bond movies
Chip Douglas: "What a place for an ending, huh? It's like that movie 'Goldeneye'!"
One of my favorite Bond films
Goldeneye is, hands down, one of the TOP 5 in the entire series! Fabulous movie!
Saw this in theater when i was 9. Loved it. Also loved the music anthem. And we played the game for years to come. Truly an epic time!
I was born in 1989, this is my first memory of a new Bond film.
I was vaguely familiar with a few Connery and Moore films. But this was exciting!
No Bond film ever catered to Fleming fans. Bond has always been a series for everyone.
Agreed on "True Lies" - it was awesome!
I still play Goldeneye on the N64 til this day 😊
It was the first Bond movie I got to see from a vhs rental at 13.
I remember seeing this in the movie theatre with schooldays friends. We all loved it.
That scene when Bond is walking behind the trolley with the explosives barrels that squeaks was hilarious.
Amazing. No discussion on the great teritary villain of this film... Boris Ivanovich Grishenko! Where is the love? He was... INVINCIBLE!
Goldeneye is Pierce Brosnan's best movie. It's sad his next movies slowly went downhill. Despite all of that he is still one of the best and most charismatic Bonds of all time
The world is not enough is good
@@NeverSaySandwich1 its ok...
Thanks for the last invincible entry - epic moment
I loved this movie when it came out. One thing that also makes this movie special was Goldeneye on Nintendo 64, which is not only one of the best movie licence game in videogame history, but also made first person shooters work on consoles.
Doom did it a few years earlier..
Tomorrow Never Dies is a solid follow up. Great action, musical score, and some good amount of satire.
What a superb review of Goldeneye. Thanks, it's an absolute classic.
When Q talks about traffic laws the east Pierce Brosnan gives him a slight double take is great and shows Pierce knows how to be subtle with his comedy as well as direct.
The soundtrack seemed to have a dark, ominous feel to it. I kinda liked it actually.
I go back and forth on it
I'm disappointed that there was no mention of the recently collapsed radio telescope at Arecibo.
This was my first ever Bond movie. My older sister took me to see it in the theater when it came out.
when u talked about the trailer, and the pressentation of brosnan i was overjoyd, i was a james bond fan, was at this time as u in high school, gonna se my first on the big screen and it was magic, brosnan has always been a mix of connery and moore, theirfor a perfect bond, so goldeneye is great
I completely agree Brosnan is a outstanding Bond, its criminal that he was let down by weak scripts and movies, especially the last two, WINE and DAD. I actually played the game first before i ever saw the movie and i was amazed seeing the movie, all the locations that the game got spot-on.
I feel Pierce Brosnan should have done a Back-to-Basics Down-to-earth approach movie similar to For Your Eyes Only as his Fifth and Final movie
Also, this film introduced Bond's use of the Omega Seamaster line of watches. Which perseveres to this day.
Pierce Brosnan is favorite James Bond and Goldeneye 1995 is one of my favorite Bond films. I used to play the game all the time many years ago.
I go back and forth on the score.
I always thought Brosnan looked like the perfect cross between Connery and Moore.
He fit the role of Bond very well, and is my third favorite after Connery and Moore.
Yes my favourite bond actor thank you so much this film introduced me to bond
It's gonna be weird when you get to "Die another day" and you finish the previous video by saying: But that's a story for another day...
We had pretty much the same Bond experience: my Bond was Roger Moore, and my first Bond at the movies was Glodeneye!!! Great as usual, thanx!!!!
Hands down my favorite Bond movie and my favorite Bond! The game was the first fps I ever played and this is the movie that got me into the franchise. I love every aspect of this movie. Sparked my celebrity crush on Famke Jenssen, and my admiration for Bronson as an actor. Fantastic video, keep up the great work
great review, appreciate all the historical context you gave too
I always thought the intro was the best of all bond movies.
9:44 Izabella Scorpolo...haha
No her name is Izabella Scorupco. Sco-rup-co
"no CGI done in this film" what about the satellite scenes?
@@venturatheace1 the satellite scenes were all done with models and hand drawn special effects. In fact the first time TGI has ever done in James Bond movie was in die another day. They used a stuntman to do the surfing scene in the North Pole.
The sad part about the plane dive at 5:18 being “too CGI and unrealistic” is that they actually had a stuntman do the stunt!
Yes to en extant, he drove the bike and then skydived but he did not do anything with the plane, that's CGI.
The 13 dislikes are from the people who would turn off the N64 if you picked odd-job
...or from people who loved the GE-score :)
Or those Oddjob players who still got shot hiding inside a blown up steel crate
I'm loving this series. I'm a huge Bond fan and these are really well researched. Bravo!
Pierce brosnan 🧤 down the best James Bond ever loved GoldenEye love Tomorrow never dies my two favorite James Bond movies
The Tina Turner song is my favorite Bond song. Alan Cummings is hilarious in this movie.
It would be cool if Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan could come back as Bond villains.
Not sure about Brosnan but Dalton is awesome playing the villain
@@mikearchibald744 Roger Moore was a nice guy my ex mother in law knew him in the 60s. He had a great sense of humour and time for fans
I liked Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. I am sorry he didn't do more James Bond movies.
This was my favorite movie as a kid I wanted to be Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Loved N64 GoldenEye
Goldeneye was my first Bond as well. It's dated in a lot of ways, but it's just so damn good to me. When I think of "James Bond" I instantly think of Pierce Brosnan in his stealth suit at the beginning of this film.
I'm programming a 4 player Goldeneye for the Game Boy Advance! Such a great movie and game.
I came back to this video just because I forgot to thumbs-up. Love this series!!
I always looked at it like this:
Judi's chemistry with Pierce was more of a partnership that evolved into a friendship
Judi's chemistry with Daniel was more of a Mother-Son relationship
She was excellent as both, which is part of why I rank her right there with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as far as that Trinity of Generational Talents that paved the way for theatre actors to become movie stars 🌟🌟🌟
I'm a musician & I totally agree with your analysis of the score. Really lame in most spots! I'm a Timthy Dalton fan, but agree that this is Brosnan's best outing. Agree totally with your number rating for aspects of the film. Thanx for all your hard work!
Great video as always. I really enjoy these
I really love this movie, big memories here.
