Very interesting and thorough review, I'm not quite in the market yet for a VR headset but I will certainly be asking you for advice when I decide to pick one up and the vid was entertaining, Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😍😍👍
Nice review, good clear detailed explanations and comparison. I havnt put my face in an oculus since the DK1 and ended up going the vive route cos I didn't like the facebook side of things, but I really like the idea of playing roomscale with no cable, might give it a try one day. I know what you mean about comfort, its such a deal breaker even if all of the other specs are better, one of the reasons I don't use the pimax
Thanks mate!😍🍻 Yeah not a fan of fb, but already had my S linked to an old inactive account. Yes, you wan't to feel comfort when gaming! But to be able to play tetherless is really awesome, and mostly only play 1 tops 2 hours at a time when room scale gaming, so works well for that.👍
Thanks for the review, good to know about the pressure on the face from the quest 2. Considering the details isn't any better despite the higher resolution in the quest 2, comfort is priority.
Thanks for watching buddy! Yes comfort is a big factor! I have found a halo strap on ebay for the Quest 2 though, and once they are done with the Link updates you would think it should have better clearity than the Rift S. So down the line, if they also can make it run better without performance hit's, I might do the swap.
Hey RVR Closet! I was thinking of buying oculus quest 2. Having said that, I've owned oculus cv1 and rift s and sold them. Now my question is, can I use all the games I've been buying on oculus store with the quest? Or do I have to buy and download games directly from quest2 headset? I dont know why, but I feel like I'm asking a stupid question, and everything makes me think that I should be able to use all the games on my oculus library, but im not entirely sure :/
Hey mate, long time! Hope you are well!! With the Quest 2 you will log in to your old Oculus account and also pare it to FB. Then all your old games will be there to download with link connected to your pc. Some games have crossbuy and can also be downloaded to the Quest 2 to be played stand alone without buying them on Quest 2 store, and some games needs to be bought again if you like to have them on Quest, it depends on the developer if they have it cross buy or not. So with Link cable it will work just like your old CV1 or Rift S.
Very informative 👍 I think I got my Quest working again, my cable must be having issues. Tried a new cable and it was all good. Also, I wonder if your streaming issues were more caused by the fact that you're at a MUCH higher resolution (almost double the number of pixels) than the Rift S. My suspicion is that it's pushing your GPU more and causing OBS to have issues. You need to monitor your GPU usage to confirm. I have had issues with that in the past. The game looks fine in my headset but GPU usage stats show the GPU is about maxed out. If you're using Nvenc encoder in OBS, then your GPU doesn't have headroom to also do the scene rendering to create the stream and you get stream stutter. I have had this problem in AMS2 and PC2 in particular.
Thanks mate! And glad to hear a new cable fixed your issue!! :D I'm not sure, from my understanding the Quest 2 don't use it's full resolution with link yet, could be wrong though, but if that was the case, the quest 2 should have looked way sharper than the Rift S. I'm thinking it is the link cable jamming the data traffic, but what ever the issue is, they are working on making the link work better, and hopefully they will manage. :)
@@RVRCloset That may be true, but if the stream is stuttering, I think it is a GPU overload issue. I wonder what resolution it is rendering for the quest. I suppose you can see that in the steam VR settings (not sure how to see it via the oculus tray tool). In any event, you're sticking with the rift s 👍.
My Rift S is now on borrowed time because of the quest 2! Since the link update and playing with the debug tool, I can now say I prefer the quest 2 for sim racing compared to the RIft S. The only reason I’m sticking to Rift S is because link Beta gives me a black screen blink once or twice an hour, which is a real pain in Dirt Rally 2.0. Once link is out of beta, I’m 100% sure this black screen blink in sim racing will be eradicated. I find the FOV on quest 2 better, I prefer the speakers and I find it far more comfortable with elite strap than the rift S. Tip for you with the elite strap I’m also a skin head, tighten the Velcro as much as possible to take all the weight off your face and onto the top of your head! Put the quest 2 on, tighten the velcro as much as possible, then tighten the cog and pow the quest 2 with elite strap is super comfortable and no pressure on your face!
Yeah will be interesting to see what the resolution and performance will be once the link is out of beta! For me the fov looks the same, guess that have to do with what IPD you have. I'm doubtful I could like a strap as much as the Halo, I find that really comfortable. But thanks for the tip, I will give that a go!👍
Hello! Nice video and good comparison between those to! But please, give me an advice, since you used them, based on my personal case: I never had an VR Headset, I have a VR Capabile PC Overall, from where I can buy those Headsets: I have an 400$ budget, in which I can buy just the Rift S, or Quest 2 + Headband + link cable If you were in my case, what would you buy?
I think it depends on what you will mostly do, racing or room scale stuff. If you will mostly do room scale stuff I say Quest 2. It's also hard to say what head strap you would prefer, I like Halo best, but some like the kinds the Quest is using. My game performance issued was do to that I was also streaming, and might also be fixed when Link get out of beta. When gaming without streaming I can't tell them appart in performance, fov or clearity. One thing to consider as well though is that the Rift S will be discontinued, and get replaced by the Quest 2, so the longliverty of the Rift S might not be as long if they stop supporting it down the line. Komming new into VR they are both great options, but the price on the Quest 2 is hard to beat.
Very VERY interesting review, R-VR Closet... but I have to comment in regards that it sounds like your naturally going to keep the Quest 2 for room-scale games still.... So I have a suggestion on that basis, cos I could argue down the track (pun intended) that the only two negatives COULD? be fixed. So my suggestion on that basis then, is could you redo the comparison when the cable comes out of BETA, and finally does 90hz, that could? solve negative (1), your streaming video stuttering problem - and (2), Have you ever viewed the VR Channel called VIRTUAL REALITY OASIS. Cos in his last 4-5 video's, he is wearing this massive blue cover, from the VR Website called VR COVERS - that could also solve that second problem............. comfort. So if you ever felt like getting one of those covers for yourself. it would be great to see :- THE COMPARISON VIDEO :- ROUND 2, hahahaha [;]-)
Thank you my friend, and you are right, down the line it's not impossible that I will replace my Rift S. They will improve on the Link, that will also unlock higher resolution, and hopefully performance will get better. I'm also looking at vrCover, will order those once out, and I actually also found a halo strap for the Quest 2 on ebay.😁👍
The Q2 is a bit heavier on the system than the Rift S, and S is more comfortable. But Q2 gives the option to play room scale without cables. I think both are really good, so depends what you will be doing most, and if you plan to do VR videos.
I feel that the main reason people would replace the rift s is the fact that many are constantly having issues that reflects on the cable. playing it though virtual desktop or a more cheaper cable would be a better reasoning, also the mic quality of the rift s is known to be weak, which quest 2 claims to have improvements. and as for comfort, there are many third party that is trying to make alternatives that can even beat the original elite strap in comfort i think, so only time will tell (rift s will be unsupportive sometime next year :( )
Yes, and those are all good points! I've seen that there is a halo strap for the Quest 2, and if Link get to the point that my streaming and videos don't suffer, I probably replace the Rift S.
very good video to inform us all of which to choose, very interesting and well explained.
