      @harlejay 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rift s technically is as good as the quest 2. From what I’ve heard it sounds like the rift s has slightly better performance and visuals. However the quest 2 has the advantage of being completely independent. If that’s not important to you I would go rift s which is what I bought. In the future there won’t even be an argument once the rift line has been discontinued, and the quest line will surpass the performance and visuals of the rift and hold the advantage of being independent.

  • @mikestephens3592
    @mikestephens3592 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    It depends on what you use it for, if you run VR games that are not in the Oculus library, the Rift S is the only choice. I use mine for flight SIM and with Film Director software that are both Oculus compliant running on the PC, so end up with way more flexibility. If I only used the Oculus approved apps, then I would probably go with the Quest2.

    I bought the Quest ² as a replacement for my Rift CV1. My intention was to use it almost exclusively with a link cable and my PC, but more and more I've been using at as a standalone as well. My biggest surprise was how comfortable the Quest² felt. I read so many stories/comments about how uncomfortable it was. I figured I'd end up having to buy a more comfortable strap, but I've been just fine with the stock strap.

    my problem with the Quest 2 is the inability to play with friends as party chat cuts out the minute you enter a game with the issue that switches the mic to game chat, which means you cannot possibly coordinated your group to join into the same game. this issue makes the rift s far better than either quest.

  • @VRJacky

    i feel like your wrong to complain about AAs you can get rechargeable ones, and what happens 3 years down the line? the batteries have degraded beyond the point of usability, with HTC you have to go spend $200 on some more controllers, with the rif s and quest 2, $20 on some more rechargables

  • @Andy1341000
    @Andy1341000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +60

    Quick answer: if you want portability and don’t mind charging the Quest 2 on/off while also losing visual fidelity but have no wires then the quest 2 is great and the link cable helps with the battery solution and slightly improved visual but that’s about it. The rift S has the advantage of PC dedicated and having the best quality graphics possible.

    I love removable batteries. I use a AA battery charger that takes 20 minutes to charge up 4 AA's. It means that when one set goes flat, I can swap them out in 60 seconds rather than having to stop playing to charge them up. With regards to the Quest 2, as a RiftS owner I would only move to a Quest2 if there was no compromise on the graphics performance and tracking. I understand the Quest controllers to be using fewer sensors to increase it's battery life and I would want to know if this makes the tracking worse than the RiftS controllers. From a graphics perspective I know the Quest 2 technically has a higher resolution and screen refresh rate but it seems like there is a graphics quality vs refresh rate trade-off with with the Hz modes. Being directly connected to the PC on the RiftS I have to make no compromise on graphics quality. If there is same graphics performance/quality is available tethered with a link cable then the Quest 2 seems like it would be the better option.

    At 5:12 You said that the Oculus Quest 2 is "Objectively an inferior experience with lower resolution." This statement is objectively false. The Oculus Quest 2 has better resolution AND higher refresh rate than the Rift s. I can't speak about the hiccup issue you seemed to be having, but considering that it seems like you had a lower resolution on a headset with objectively higher resolution I doubt that the problems are caused by the headset in general. Ok I have the rift s and my friend has the quest 2, I tried out both simultaneously and I can clearly tell the difference in resolution from the rift s, (I’m doing these tests with pcvr on both so link for the quest and just the standard rift s.) In the settings u can actually change the render resolution with a slider, and the refresh rate to 90hz. All though the quest 2 isn’t meant to be pcvr I think the experiences were literally equal. I’m comparing pcvr on both since obviously if u don’t have a good computer than the quest 2 is your only choice. That’s all you need to really know but I’m going to go really in depth about this. Comfort: straight out of the box rift s is way more comfortable, but I owned a vive with deluxe audio strap and u can actually do what’s called the frankenquest mod which is basically attaching the HTC vive deluxe audio strap to the quest with some adapters. This solves two things with the quest 2 which is audio and of course comfort. You can also do this to the rift s, but no matter what it’s going to be 100 dollars more. Controllers: Definitely personal preference but I actually like the quest 2 controllers more than the rift s, the battery compartment door doesn’t slide off anymore, and battery life is better. Quest also has finger tracking if you don’t use controllers which is currently in beta. Both feel good, but quest feels better. Also the haptic feedback on the quest 2 feels more bumped up so you get more rumble in intense games. The performance feels better on pcvr since it uses the same game but with higher resolution and refresh rate. I also happen to own a first gen quest and the link experience was a 7/10 now with quest 2 a 8.5/10. Rift s still has less latency but of course its a pcvr headset. So in conclusion for the second time, IF you have a good pc get the quest 2 because you can adjust refresh rate to 90hz and upscale the resolution to higher numbers. If you have an ok pc this means around the recommended specs for the rift s, then get the rift s since your pc might not be able to handle those high resolutions of the quest 2. If you have no pc then obviously get the quest 2. For me overall I think quest 2 can still win in the ok pc category since you can also turn down the resolution to default or closer to the rift s, while still maintaining 90hz and being 100 dollars cheaper. That’s all and thank you if you read through all of this, reply if u have a question and stay safe, good bye!

    The quest 2 has higher resolution and refresh rate. It can also be connected to a PC wirelessly by using Virtual Desktop. You can also play PCVR games by using cloud computing with a virtual gaming PC with Shadow PC. Literally the only thing that the Rift s has over the Quest 2 is a slightly larger field of view. So I have the rift s but now thinking of getting the quest 2, got a few questions:
    1. If you connect the quest 2 with link or the usb cable is there any lag? Input or otherwise?
    2. Can the quest 2 be used in any way without losing battery power?

    • @TJ.-.
      @TJ.-. 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think if the link cable is plugged into the pc it’s charges it so you can play without loosing power. As for the first question I was thinking the same thing but I doubt it

    • @wrigi5737
      @wrigi5737 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The link cable won’t charge your headset, I’ve tried it. For the most part, there is no lag using link with the quest. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t there, as link is still in beta (as mentioned in the video) it can stagger a bit especially during any system notifications. I also noticed loading into games using the link, you’ll have a crazy screen-door effect, and it would duplicate your screen and tracking would just disappear. Using link is also slightly slower, nothing major but the rift s is smoother. If you’re only going to be using the link feature casually, and still going to be using the quest 2 standalone, then get it. If you want one for pcvr, and don’t mind being tethered to a pc, then get the rift s. :)

    • @wrigi5737
      @wrigi5737 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TJ.-. It doesn’t charge, but it tries to. I’ve noticed that when I stopped playing to charge the headset, it was still on even when displaying that it was at 0% of battery life. But, if you keep playing it will still die like 2 minutes after. So yes, using link will not charge the headset. I’ve also just found out that even the quest 1 has better resolution than the rift s, but for some reason people think that using link to play pcvr is smoother than the rift s, it really isn’t. But, link is still in beta, and the difference of how smooth it runs is nothing major. It’s definitely not going to improve upon on how well you perform in game. I would always recommend the quest 2, just because of the higher resolution and you still have that option to play games wirelessly. For me, the quest 2 beats any other current headset. Unless however, it’s a valve index.
