    Thanks. I have changed the tank in my S10, but I am always a bit nervous about jobs like these. You made it look so easy. Now I guess I have no excuse to not be crawling under my car today.

    Thanks! You guys saved me some time. You made me confident that I wasn't leaving anything connected before I dropped it. Also getting those fittings off was hard and you ensured me that I was taking them off the right way without breaking them. Got my car running again and saved $500 over the shop doing it.

    Gas is pretty heavy. If you go to Home Depot they should have a gas siphon tool that might work for you. It's only like 10-15 dollars. Check the lawn mower dept. Hope this helps you out.

    You may want to check to see if there's fuel getting to the motor from the pump. It could also be a clogged fuel filter. If you haven't changed it is a while it wouldn't hurt to place a new one in.

    very helpful .I decided to get at it from the top and watching you replace the tank showed me where to make my cut-X marks the spot. I recognize that not many should attempt this route, as there is a chance of cutting trough the fuel lines. I used a dremel multi tool with a carbide blade keeping the blade flat so as not to punch though the sheet metal into the tank or lines.

    My 02 malibu wont turn over. It took a while before it actually turned over this morning, drove it too class, three hours later it would not start, just keep cranking. Could the fuel pump be the problem? I've already ruled out the theft system, and a blown fuse. And I dont hear any hum when I turn the key to the on position.This channel is the best, its really helping me out with my malibu.

    Not sure if I had commented earlier or not. This vid helped me replace my fuel pump about a year ago. Saved me a few hundred bucks at the least, as I didn't have to take it to a garage to do this. Simple to follow instructions, grateful for the post. This video, by itself, has made 1A Auto Parts my go-to tutorial source. If I get in a situation where I can wait for a part to ship, I'll be ordering through 1A Auto as well!

      As it is, I do have a problem with my exhaust system on my 01 Malibu ... When I have a weekend to spend working on it, I'm sure I'll do some diagnostics to figure out exactly what I need to replace or tighten up. If you know of any good tutorials (or have one posted) on exhaust, point the way! Because exhaust doesn't stop the car from going down the road, I'll likely be ordering those parts from y'all....

  • @1AAuto

    You may want to make sure that you have the correct fuel pump. Different years may have had different connectors.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could test it with an ohm meter to see if it has the right voltage to it.

  • @NateM154
    @NateM154 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I struggled with those quick disconnects at first. Just to reiterate, after you open the flap, you push the disconnect clips up so as if they are coming off the line; they won't actually come off, but then you can pull off the tubing.

    It may be some type of vent cap. The dealer may be able to get one for you.

  • @1AAuto

    Some vehicles are like that but most require the tank to be dropped. There are some people out there that have cut a hole in there trunk to access the pump but that is very dangerous and we do not condone that.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Ducktastic777 If the connectors are corroded and brittle. I would replace them with good ones, along with any corroded or bad wiring.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    On the 99-03 Chevy Malibu the fuel pump and the sending unit are all one unit. If the gas gauge stops working or starts to drop quickly all of a sudden usually those are the signs of a bad sending unit. Here's a link to the replacement fuel pumps on out website. 1aauto.com/1A/FuelSendingUnits/Chevy/Malibu/-/-/1999?ATony

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you do not hear the pump kick on with the key, it could be a fuel pump that needs to be replaced.

    If you are low on fuel and come to a stop, the fuel sloshes around inside the tank and the float is unable to get a good reading. If this happens with a full tank, there might be an electrical issue causing the problem.

    @Ducktastic777 You may want to check your connection to it and also any grounds.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheSleepmanscott It should be the sending unit that's causing this.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @i13w13d You may want to check the filler neck hose to see if it's kinked at all, or if there's a possible venting issue in one of the lines that's preventing the tank from becoming full.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Ducktastic777 If you have a bad connection, it could cause issues.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @scorpion831 If the gauge itself works fine but rattles, then you might need to replace the gauge.

  • @1AAuto

    @ushook If it slowly turns over but doesn't catch, you may want to check the battery.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @sandylo73 You may want to check all of your grounds and connections, to see if anything has come loose.

  • @1AAuto

    @LilHash1216 It depends where they are leaking. You may be able to fix it with a couple of pieces of gas line and some worm clamps.

  • @bobbymiller5297
    @bobbymiller5297 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @1aauto Thanks, I figured out what it was. It was a weak fuel pump and also a bad Mass airflow sensor. It starts like a charm now and has alot more power. I did it myself and watched your other video on mass airflow sensor replacement :)

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @jayR1805 You could try something a little stronger like Kroil or PB Blaster. Maybe even a long extension with a bar on the ratchet for some added leverage. Just be careful not to break the bolt (if you can help it).

  • @raysykes6725

    My new pump came with two seals, one was an O ring like the previous pump had, only much larger in diameter. The other was squared in cross section but also a much larger diameter matching the size of the first seal. When installed the O-ring will not stay between the pump housing and the tank but oozes out failing to seal for very long. I have now had to reinstall it three times and have given up. I have instead ordered a new O-ring on Ebay of a much smaller diameter (98mm ID instead of the 104-105mm ID of the O-ring provided), it will be here in a week and will hopefully do the job. meanwhile the tank is out and the car not usable. The pump itself works great and the video very well produced. Please review the seals that this pump comes with and get them replaced as needed, plus add a good video showing the seals on the new pump.

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Patrick Joseph You could. Just protect yourself from fuel spray by putting a rag over the valve while releasing the pressure. This is why pulling the relay is so nice: it just slowly runs the car out of fuel, empyting the lines and doesn't spray vapors into the air.
