2018 Cadillac CT6 3.0TT - Self Driving Future is [Nearly] Here

  • As the automotive world prepares for roads full of self driving cars, Cadillac makes a bold leap into full autonomy by offering true hands free driving in the form of their innovated new Super Cruise feature. Available on the flagship CT6 sedan, this remarkable cruise control allows drivers to fully take their hands off the wheel on the interstate when conditions permit. Pair this cool tech with one of the best driving large luxury sedans on the market and the 2018 CT6 could be the hidden gem of the big luxury sedan segment. 2019 model year will introduce an even bolder V-Sport model with a 550HP twin-turbo V8 option.

Every year, they are getting closer and closer to the original concept car back when they launched their new lineup (art and science).
Only if they start implementing the interior of the concept to these cars.

I want Cadillac to succeed so badly. But I agree with your gripes. They are so close to living up to the Cadillac name. Its driving dynamics and supercruise still make it competitive but they fall short because of the details. Interior colors, wood gloss, CUE, GM parts sharing.

Jamel Moore they’re definitely not second tier, but there’s definitely “room for perfection” and I hope Cadillac continues in the direction they’re going because if so they’ll definitely reach that level of perfection and have the competition scratching their heads trying to figure out how they did it.

I sometimes feel like Cadillac can't win in the minds of many people. For $20-25k more, of course a Benz or BMW has nicer "finish." But, I feel like if Cadillac did all those finish options (which they are for 2020, check out the Platinum trim!) then I think the complaint will be "Cadillac is charging $100k? Who will buy it?" For $70-90k,the ct6 has been a stellar product. And on the plastic on the lower door panel, honestly that's the part that gets kicked, hit, and roughed up more than other parts. A soft, cushy leather would probably wear very prematurely.

Both absolutely sharp vehicles. but the Cadillac’s craftsmanship is horrible. I say this because my 52g ATS PERFORMANCE was deemed a lemon and was bought back after my 23 rd breakdown. On my second Lexus GSF Sport now and only goes in for Oil changes. No comparison in build quality. Cadi is better off going back to Coupe Devilles and Eldorados. At least you knew what you were getting

      @KCMrecordings 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Al Pappalardi easy man, I'm sorry to hear about your problems, but I have a 2013 ATS 2.0T and has only had a radiator problem and the CUE needed to be replaced, both under warranty many many thousand miles back. Keep in mind, I live near Malibu where most of the miles on my car are hard, lead footed, stressful, enthusiastic miles because of the curvy canyon roads here. At the same time, my friend's Lexus 200T has recently started over heating to the point where he's looking to trade it in. I do believe in lexus build quality, but no car is perfect, and sometimes you get lemons from any brand.

pretty amazing how well calibrated and smart the super cruise system is. this car deserves more attention. its not quite S class or 7 series quality but you get a lot of the same goodies for a cheaper price. I also think its a stunning car to look at especially in the platinum trim. The 2019 version with the new TTV8 will be a mind blowing performer. when you add the already lightweight nimble platform with 627 lb ft of torque and AWD paired to their new 10 speed transmission I expect ridiculous numbers

Ive had my eye on this car for 3 years. When I heard they stopped production, I had to go buy one. By far the nicest car I have ever owned. It is the best looking large sedan on the road in my opinion. Ive only been driving it for 2 months but dont have a single criticism other than i dont like when the car shuts off when it stops. There is a split second delay from stop to acceleration, which makes it a bit slow on the jump. That said, all the power I would ever want is in this engine. what a beauty!!!

I REALLY want Cadillac to succeed. Unfortunately, they do too much part sharing with other GM cars. GM need to recognize and either take on or cut the risk of creating the premium brand they want with Cadillac. Also, the looks tend to fall under the bland category. You want presence, not striking.

The more I watch car reviews, the more it becomes clear that no matter how good they get or even surpass the Europeans in many aspects, people -- mainly Americans -- will always nitpick and never be satisfied with Cadillac.
Somehow for Cadillac to stay true to its heritage and silence the unnecessary criticism, the best option is not to compete with BMW and Mercedes, but to truly go beyond the reach of the common folk and compete directly with Maybach, Rolls-Royce, and Bentley.

I have a 14 ats 2.0t performance trim it has the led door handles and I absolutely love how it looks at night. Ct6 blackwing is my dream car, but I absolutely love the ats and think Cadillac nailed every aspect of that car. But it should have never come with the 2.5 engine. Options should have only been the 2.0t and 3.6. The 2.5 202hp is a dog and brings up the cimmaron to mind.

The CT6 is definitely a step forward for Cadillac, but they aren't quite on par with the competition just yet. Some interior materials and the infotainment system, in particular, are still lagging significantly behind the Germans and also Lexus. That said, the rear seat comfort and autonomous features are class bests, so they deserve big credit for that. In any case, if Cadi keeps pushing ahead they'll eventually have a very competitive total package with the CT6. Great review Sofyan!

From the day I bought my 2018 CT6 Platinum 3.0TT, I KNEW I made the right choice. I started a several years ago with a new ATS, then after a couple of years, moved up to the XTS and loved both of them. So, when some nitwit (like the guy in red F150) caused an accident that totaled my XTS, I decided it was time to upgrade again. I test drove all of the comps you mention, (MB S Class, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8L etc etc), and I honestly felt like the CT6 was just more fun to drive, and for quite a bit less money. She's loaded, there is no option available that I don't have (keeping in mind that the V8 wasn't available at the time) but considering how well powered the 3.0TT is, a V8 just seems like overkill. You didn't even mention the camera driven rear view mirror! For me, it more than makes up for the small side view mirrors. It takes a few drives to get used to looking at a camera view, but once you get used to it, you can't do without it!
As I said, I started in an ATS, which was an absolute beast from a handling viewpoint, but amazingly, with the magnetic suspension and the rear wheel turning assist, my CT6 handles just as well but is obviously a much larger vehicle. The Super Cruise IS very cool, and even though I'm still not ready to fully trust any autonomous vehicle in heavy traffic, it is amazing on longer trips when traffic has thinned out a little. I have diabetic neuropathy in my feet, and constantly having to start/stop causes my feet to burn like crazy after awhile. So both the Super Cruise and the Adaptive Cruise are both superstars for me, and I agree with your statement about "road appeal". I've gotten so many compliments on all of my Cadillacs through the years, but none more so than the CT6.

What happens when all the bells and whistles break down? Expensive to fix! The depreciation on a 6 year old luxury vehicle is already high. Who is going to pour $5,000 into repairing the fluff electronics on a car that old? *Keep it simple; keep it safe.* Always have your head screwed on straight when you drive and never leave your brain at home.

I do think the ct6 does it better than than most though. I like how it senses you not paying attention and forces your eyes back to the road. I think that is a very important feature. I do agree with you though. We won’t ever get to full autonomous driving because people are to immature to handle the progressive steps. Any touch of autonomous driving and people think their car is the millennium Falcon and they can do whatever they want. It’s sad really because there is so much potential, however people lack the self control companies need to test and evolve their technology

Cadillac has been putting real matte finished woods in their vehicles since 2013. Why would they need to study someone else to do what they’ve already been doing? I am done with GM, my 06 DTS just hit 100K and I swear it is just like a bomb went off. "clean radar" on Adaptive cruise refuses to let me use cruise control (650.00 for just the sensor), The flash high beams when you pull back the turn signal blows fuses every time, lights and cigarette lighter in the console blows fuses every time, the infamous Northstar pings like mad no matter what you put in it, HID headlights flicker all the time and you have to reset, high mount stop light on trunk 1/4 the leds are out. power steering pumps whines pretty bad..Where should I stop GRRR $$$ 55K+ and no wonder why Cadillac DTS Luxury III are only worth 1,500.00 trade in with only 115K on it. My 77 Fleetwood was the only one out of 5 Cadillac's that was worth the money. GM still does not have it together.

Cadillac is still not putting a 100% into their vehicles honestly! They've been in the business since 1900's(1902 I believe) & have had an up & down hit or miss history! They seem to get their concepts right but rarely ever wow us with the actual vehicle presented to the public to buy! The sleeping giant is what they remind me of,waking every now and then just to fall right back to sleep again sadly!! With concepts like the Evoq, the Sixteen, the Cien the Elmiraj, the Ciel, the Escala you'd wonder then why aren't they more consistent, why do they continue to not offer the best & evolutionary vehicles they should be able to create? I believe they've become too conservative too let's play it safe? But that's the opposite of what everyone else is doing! They keep trying to reinvent themselves painfully when it's not the appropriate response it should be yielding to! Build the vehicles you are/should be able to! Bold, luxurious, innovative, technological & exciting & they will come! Stop being adequate & start being aggressive and daring like you once were!!

Amazing car. Comparably equipped s class is $30k more so big deal that a few trim pieces are not leather lined. You totally missed the storage compartment under the HUD controls left of the steering wheel. And no one seems to discover the console lid can open from either side...the greatest thing ever. Pan array, rear wheel steer and magnetic ride control...try to get those things anywhere else. AWD is standard in all CT6 except turbo 4s

Great review as usual. Thanks for taking the time to really show how that super cruise hands-free works for real life situation. I love the fact that Cadillac didnt do the awful two tone interior on this car. I don't want black leather seats dashboard and then a light-colored headliner and other inserts. But that's just my preference. It was nice to see you having so much fun driving the flagship Cadillac. Have a beautiful day

Autonomous driving. WHY ? WTF ! All manufacturers are spending fortunes on that... Does that mean less accidents at the end ? If so, will insurance companies will lower their prices ? Answer : no. At the end, we will have the worst drivers ever driving our streets and roads...

I still don’t get it. What’s the purpose of having a car that feels, embraces and , hugs the road. If I am and going to rely on system to guide, drive for me while I am brushing my hair or playing checkers? It’s getting really stupid now. Hold the wheel, punch the pedal already

This design , as well as Cadillac designs from the past , is something like when a child first starts learning how to brush their teeth . Brushing the front and the very back teeth , completely forgetting the side molars . Cadillacs have very weak side character lines . Not like the Cadillacs of the ' 50's -'60 's . Sideview design is almost nonexistent . Just front and rear ...

You couldn't give me a car that drove itself, for free. That is what I'm for. Total BS. it just adds to the price of the car and the insurance cost. GM can't command the price they want for this car, simply no value, just as well cut the car with all the other GM car scheduled to be cut.

THIS CAR COULD BE MADE BETTER WITHOUT ITS EXTREME COMPLEXITY WHICH MAKES MAINTENANCE TOO EXPENSIVE. THE ENGINE DRSIGNS WILL LIKELY REQUIRE COSTLY REPAIRS, UNLIKE THE GM LS ENGINES.
ALSO IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT ONLY CERTIFIED SHOPS CAN WORK ON THIS CAR. SO MY LOCAL MECHANIC CANNOT.
THIS IS A RICH MANS CAR AT A TIME THAT AVERAGE WORKERS EARN LESS THAN $40K ANNUALLY.
