Navy veteran here too, I got out during the Trump era after 10 years. I didn't like where we were headed. If then.... I had trouble putting on a uniform....I couldn't imagine having to do that NOW after witnessing how much power a foreign nation has over the United States. We look INSANE RIGHT NOW, which makes my stomach feel incredibly sick.
My biggest fear across my entire life was...the US turning full villain rather than bow out gracefully if a foreign power surpasses them.....and we're seeing it unfold right before our eyes.

Single Issue Referendums with thresholds and a social contract means Communities can vote their own laws.
A Public Authority can audit police and prosecute bad cops in our own courts.
Nationalise resources and give Indigenous peoples the right of Sovereignty over them as Guardians.
This can be achieved through a General Strike or Velvet Revolution, much like the Occupy movement, peacefully occupying State Buildings until a People's Mandate can be implemented.
With the appropriate checks and balances, we could have a national digital forum where qualified professionals can debate the issues in a public setting without all the disinformation and bad faith antics, hatespeech etc.
Any vote would need to pass the 70% threshold, with a veto or _rewrite_ vote needing 30%.
The issues would be debated, the public educated, and then a vote taken. Votes that fail will have to wait a year before trying again. Any new proposal (Citizen Initiated Referendum) would have to reach a threshold of support before it made it onto the register. This would be subject to a Social Contract (New Constitution) that forbids human rights abuses and discrimination.
That can be written in the same manner based on the core principles we all share. Councils and Boards could operate in the same fashion at Scale.
It works in a way that obligates people to better educate themselves ( that is to use logic and evidence in their reasoning ) for a better understanding of the issues, and then take collective responsibility for the outcomes. As opposed to the divisive US v them scapegoating and bi-partisan finger pointing the current Capitalist Pyramid Scheme runs on.
We need Government by People's Referenda, either through Mascot Candidates or Peaceful Occupation of the Capitals until one is established.
Make it an annual March on Oct 14.

Our military lost all honor back on 9/11 and anyone who stayed in the military after that is just part of the machine and basically have given up their souls when they joined the military because they made the choice to murder innocent people if they were told to. I'm a veteran... left the military in August 8th 2001. Only 4 weeks before 911. Very lucky. I'm Muslim, and after Friday prayers we would discuss how difficult it was to be Muslims In the military when virtually all our wars are directed toward Muslims. It influenced me to not renew my contract. That decision was the greatest luckiest move that potentially saved my life. Thank God.
Furthermore, months after getting out, I saw numerous close military colleagues in local news reported killed in helicopter crashes, gorilla ambushes, and IED's.
I'm also a veteran who got out shortly after the Gulf war... I never knew any Muslims when I served I didn't become Christian till a decade or so ago. You shouldn't have had a difficult time practicing what you believe... Keep your head up stand your ground and fight for what you believe a seeking heart will always find God. Inshallah

Single Issue Referendums with thresholds and a social contract means Communities can vote their own laws.
A Public Authority can audit police and prosecute bad cops in our own courts.
Nationalise resources and give Indigenous peoples the right of Sovereignty over them as Guardians.
This can be achieved through a General Strike or Velvet Revolution, much like the Occupy movement, peacefully occupying State Buildings until a People's Mandate can be implemented.
With the appropriate checks and balances, you could have a national digital forum where qualified professionals can debate the issues in a public setting without all the disinformation and bad faith antics, hatespeech etc.
Any vote would need to pass the 70% threshold, with a veto or _rewrite_ vote needing 30%.
The issues would be debated, the public educated, and then a vote taken. Votes that fail will have to wait a year before trying again. Any new proposal (Citizen Initiated Referendum) would have to reach a threshold of support before it made it onto the register.
This would be subject to a Social Contract (New Constitution) that forbids human rights abuses and discrimination.
That can be written in the same manner based on the core principles we all share. Councils and Boards could operate in the same fashion at Scale.
It works in a way that obligates people to better educate themselves ( that is to use logic and evidence in their reasoning ) for a better understanding of the issues, and then take collective responsibility for the outcomes. As opposed to the divisive US v them scapegoating and bi-partisan finger pointing the current Capitalist Pyramid Scheme runs on.

This segment points us to how deep the iceberg of heartlessness is in the US. There are still GIs from Vietnam committing suicide. My brother was drafted in 1968 and while an MP in Vietnam was jailed for declaring himself a conscientious objector, not just to his situation in this war, but to war as a solution. When he returned home he had basically been destroyed as a human being -- like millions of other vets of any war. And, incidentally, notwithstanding mind-crippling medications and faithful attendance at "therapy" sessions at the VA, there is no cure. The mood, the spirit, the quality of life in the entire American society has been damaged irreversibly by warfare and all it entails. What I observed in my brother was a trauma so deep that death itself is the only possible escape, because he had to live for fifty years with the full awareness of what his own country had done to him and to those friends who suffered and died, and needlessly. They say they do not know what causes memory loss and early senility, but it is obvious. Fighting is one thing, but high-tech warfare eliminates the consciousness of what you are doing. Most soldiers would not do what they are doing if they knew what their weapons were doing to all the human beings they cannot look in the eye. My brother's case was compounded by exposure to chemical weapons used by the US in Vietnam. So he died the death of ten thousand cuts over the fifty years until he finally took his own life. American society rejected him after he held up a mirror to those adapted, compromised, to it. No one could face what we had done, and obviously are still doing to this day, for money and ego.
John, I am so sorry for what your brother and his family went through and I am only privilaged and honoured to know the story of such a beautiful being as your brother.

It's not only those who are applying for CO or going AWOL. There are also those who are not going to re-enlist, have decided to retire and those who will never encourage not only their own children, but any others to enlist in the military. There was already a 30% drop in enlistments before this horror started that the US is absolutely complicit in. This will only increase that number.
As a USAF veteran who continued as a civilian on Aerospace and Defense contracts, I faced my own crises of conscience at seeing what the US is not only supporting but giving diplomatic protection to. I was shaken to my core, as I had this childlike faith that this nation would be fighting against what is happening in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, not supplying weapons for it. It's crushing when you look back at your life's work thinking you were supporting a somewhat righteous nation, when in fact you put your life and health on the line for greed and special interests and in one way or another you have the blood of the innocent on your hands.
Thank you for serving with the intent to give your best !! It's not your fault that the country we love has allowed itself to be soulless, GREEDY, and void of what we saw as the best country on the planet for our HUMANITY and caring for our fellow man !! We have all been deceived and it's heartbreaking! IMO !!

Military recruitment has been having problems. Things will probably go from bad to disasterous. I would not be surprised if the draft was being discussed. I read where that U.S. Army recruitment was 20% below required levels. When I enlisted, I thought I was serving American security. Information becomes more and more accessible and informed people make wiser decisions.
The Draft bill was passed by Congress !! They now automatically sign you up as of two weeks ago !!!
