Ever since I got banged up pretty bad on my last deployment I have been working on and building keyboards to help with motor skill recovery and its also very easy on my brain to move slowly on a simple keyboard and just repeating the steps like lubing switches. Ive improved alot over the last year and having your videos playing in the background is always enjoyable!
I look forward to continuing my delving into this community

Like full on custom keyboards? I been thinking about getting some custom layout for making programming a little less annoying with all the key combos and stuff, but hardly anyone seems to want to do custom layouts and I am pretty bad with electronics. I code, not solder. I'm really quite surprised at the lack of keyboard specialization when there are so many different tasks one might need keys for that are just not present or in awkward positions. Short of doing custom key mapping and keyboards with macro keys there really isn't much.

@@Powertampa Well, good news, the programming is harder than the soldering ^^
A custom keyboard just needs switches, a plate & a microcontroller, diodes if you wanna do it properly, PCB design w/ RGB and hot swap sockets if you wanna go all in.
Read up on QMK & ZMK keyboards, those are pretty easy to build.

@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 with ten bucky keys and 160 normal keys, you could have 163480 possible keystrokes. However, you can realistically only press five bucky keys at once, meaning you'd need at least 12 to get that same number of combinations.
Instead, I propose using the number pad in conjunction with a top key as a layer input device, allowing you to have an unlimited number of layers (pending the capabilities of the processor in the keyboard). This would necessitate OLED screens on top of the keys, though...

I just had an interesting thought, with keyboards like this, the Wombat, and the Long Boi, or any wide keyboard someone might come up with, at what point should we start angling or curving the outer extremities? Surely at some point a keyboard becomes too wide to just be a slab, right? I guess this somewhat depends on elbow pivot and wrist splay, but that also gets into ergonomic discussions. Also what's a good balance between the row and column ratio, say you have a true 200% layout and you could go anywhere from the typical 6 row layout (standard height, double width) to a 12 row layout (double height, standard width), where would the ideal balance between rows and columns be?
All of this excludes mouse usage, which is an entirely different conversation.

"This is not something that the average office worker..." Yeah. 6 kilo is about 3 more than the weight rating for most desk's keyboard trays. Though with that kind of construction, you could probably mount it to a workstation via the chassis. Actually would be a good accessory for a keyboard like that. Compatible mounting brackets would reduce the possibility of it injuring someone by falling on their lap. This is the kind of keyboard that might require steel toes to use safely.

(coming from your TOP 10 most SILENT mechanical keyboard switches of all time vid) Hey, I have been looking at getting a Type S Topre Professional HHKB Keyboard but noticed that yours doesn't really look like the one on the website. Yours doesn't have an extra piece that sticks out at the top and I was kind of wondering as to why that is?....Yours looks more like the 'classic' but it's obviously not as your keyboard said "professional type-s". Then I looked past all that and tried finding just the switches but couldn't find the switches literally anywhere...sooo a 2nd question would be where would I buy just the switches? And a 3rd question if I made me own keyboard with just the switches and even bought the mat for underneath would it sound the same as the one by HHKB or would the material of the keyboard and etc. switch up the sound a bit?? Would love a more detailed video! Thanks!

Usages? Traditionally Emacs and LaTeX - the first is a text editor that relies on using numbers of control keys and a lot of macros and the second is a mathematics typesetting tool. Emacs and this keyboard are inspired by something called the Space Cadet keyboard that had like seven control keys - as well as the Greek alphabet and a lot of mathematical symbols This I think has even more, so the number of key combos is staggering - far higher than any human with ten fingers could realistically physically use and/or mentally accommodate. Then there's a number of small batch local distilleries popping up in increasing numbers in the past couple of years. So if you like whiskey, definitely go explore the Irish range! Meh, that mouse space stuff is just noise. You can easily use a mouse with this thing :D .

@@Chyrosran22 for sure - you just need to decide which side of the keyboard you'll no longer be able to reach when you're using the mouse :-D

Oh no! don't tell them to put any old things in it. You'll end up with the MEI switches (the worst ones I've ever used). :p

500€ for this with the caps and shipping, you must certainly buy this to support the pile of 4090's sitting on your desk being used as paper weights. Whalers got to whale i guess... and pay pigs got to pay.

I think you might have left off the keyswitches and stabs. I make it nearly 800 euros.
