The duke390 is a surprisingly good cruiser. I too went up to a 16t front sprocket but lately I’m thinking of going down to a 42t in the rear as well. Great video!
@@sawbach8971 sorry for the delayed response. Going down to 42t in the rear was a little too much. The top speed dropped as well as the acceleration. I’m 205lb btw. It may be a better fit for someone lighter.
Well done video. I’m changing the engine sprocket on my 390ADV and couldn’t find the torque value for the 2 screws anywhere. Blue loctite is a great recommendation. Two questions: From the color there seems to be some anti seize on the splines. What do you think? Second, you are using a stand at the rear wheel. Where can I find one? Thanks
How do you know if a sprocket will fit the bike? Trying to buy a new set here and having trouble finding a kit that specifically lists the duke that’s actually in stock. Just trying to find em piece by piece now.
Well I can tell you a 15T front is about as large as the front can go without removing the guard. The rear has more possibilities. I personally just ran 15/45 which is 1+ front and stock rear. The oem chain length will fit this.
did the 16/45 sprocket set up go will on test run . is bike sluggish on acceleration or is the 390 engine powerful enough to cope with the longer gearing
You'll notice little to no change on the acceleration. What it did was calm the revs down on the interstate. In 6th gear at 80mph it use to run 8000rpm now it runs 7500rpm at 80.
That’s a driven sprocket, You can buy it from Oem cycle.com it’s also free shipping to India. But it’s more logical to replace rear sprocket and replace chain which has lesser links. Overall you could reduce rotational mass aiding in better handling for duke 390.
Pretty much every video following this installation has the 16t sprocket on it. Its still on it to this day. You can't "fuck up" this bike with a simple sprocket swap.
I didnt notice any significant change in acceleration or top speed, but it did bring the revs down at cruising speed on the highway which is what I wanted.

love all of your videos, been using them to do a lot of the non-engine related service myself on my new RC390 for the first time.

can i install 14t from duke 250 & 42t from duke 200 in ist gen duke 390 to get low end torque

You can find the stand at harbor freight and some spools on amazon to go with it. Some anti seize isn't bad but not really necessary either.

Did you have any issues with the speedometer after the install?
No, the speedometer gets its reading from yhe ABS sensor so gearing changes to not make any difference.

Where is the test ride of this version of bike? Just in case to confirm that you didn't fuck up that bike.

You could have taken a link out of your chain when installing the 16 tooth sprocket. It would have allowed you to keep the proper wheelbase.
Taking a link out would have made it shorter and it would have no longer fit.
