      We have both, a Tesla model Y and a 2024 Equinox EV. While they both have their pros and cons; I like the Equinox EV better. Charging is not as good on the Equinox EV compared to the Tesla , the smartphone integration is better on the Tesla and the charge management is better on the Tesla. But I still like the Equinox EV better.

    • @livewirereview
      @livewirereview  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @lashlarue59 they do both have pros and cons, but both have a heat pump. The Tesla is far easier to road trip but the integration of Google maps with the charge % at arrival is a big step for the Equinox EV.

    • @lashlarue59
      @lashlarue59 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@livewirereview Yep I remember when the lack of a heat pump came to a head with the Nissan Leaf a few years ago. Luckily most of the EV industry learned a lesson from that and started including them.
      That best things I like about the Equinox is that they struck a good balance between controls on the screen and manual controls. There are just somethings that are quicker and easier to do manually that digging thru a menuing system; thats why I think Tesla went too far with that stuff.
      The other great thing is the Equinox user interface is based on Android. So if you're familiar with the whole Google/ Android/smartphone thing with the App Store, installing apps, Google Maps etc. you are right at home.
      Lastly the way the Equinox handles profiles is the way a real computer system handles sessions. You login to the Equinox with pin number which acts like a userid/password and at that point everything you do is in the context of your session/profile so no walking on other users preferences. I come from that background so when I saw that I was sold.

    • @livewirereview
      @livewirereview  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @vinsonhelton7141 thanks for the idea, I will! The Equinox uses a blended or simulated brake pedal like a lot of other EVs, so you get regen first, then friction brakes. It blends well and stops very smoothly. There is a small paddle for max regen on the steering wheel like the kona. I'm not sure why you would want this, but it's there. You can set regen levels and there is one pedal braking. The one pedal braking works quite well, and I used both during my time with it.

      I use full regen if there are levels all the time except when the road is either puddling heavy from rain or is slick then I turn off regen and use the paddle at times I think I can. Also when using regen fully if I need a little more regen because I'm overshooting a little some vehicles will regen a little more using the paddle with regen already fully on.

    Thanks for your excellent review, you covered all aspects so far about the Equinox EV from al videos available on youtube at this time, specially for Canadians ;-).
    One question, can we apply and anti rust treatment like a normal vehicle or is not at option? and also at 6:01 I see a kind of black cover under the hood, like to protect the underneath of the door hood, I bought the base version of the Equinox EV 2025 and mine didn't come with this protective panel, is that normal? is that of a concern not having it?, many many thanks!

    • @livewirereview
      @livewirereview  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! As for the black panel, it's not necessary for anything, so you won't need it.
      Rustproofing is an interesting topic. I personally highly recommend rustproofing, BUT EVs and hybrids use HV wires. The system checks these wires for electrical leakage every time the vehicle is turned on. This is known as isolation resistance. If the solvents in the rustproofing cause those wires to expand their insulation and this causes a fault, then it wouldn't be covered under warranty. It's not a huge deal, and I haven't seen this happen yet on any customers' cars that are heavily rustproofed.

    OK, I like the video, great info. Can you show the inverter, high power module and it's outputs and inputs? like where the plugs go to and that? I want to know where the DC/DC converter is, where are it's harnesses and their routing, I only see the option for one single interior 110vAC plug at 150 watts. if it's even equipped. it looks like there's plenty of space to install an inverter in the 2000W class like you could in the Bolt, there is even studs with threads on the top of that distribution module. I'd love to see an indepth video on that module.

    How long do modern EV batteries tend to last? Like what sort of percent decrease in total capacity can you expect every year, average? Someone asked me recently - if you take great care of a combustion engine car, it typically will last 20+ years, and can do all the same tricks as before pretty much. EV batteries degrade though, so if I had one for 20 years, it's like the gas tank will have shrunk. But by roughly how much?

    • @BarryObaminable
      @BarryObaminable 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @livewirereview
      @livewirereview  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @FraserGoodTimes 10-15 years average but can last longer. 70% capacity is when they are removed and then used for grid storage. You'll lose 5% the first year (unless degradation is hidden like in this one and the Hyundai/Kia products). Then it's around 1-2% per year after. At 90% capacity, the degradation slows to a crawl, and the battery spends most of its life there.

      @@livewirereviewYou are right and I was wrong! About two weeks ago I bought my wife a 2024 Equinox EV and we are very happy with it. So I was thinking about buying another one for myself so I contacted the dealer and he started sending me pictures of the 2025's and I didn't like the looks of them so I told them no. When you responded to me it got me thinking so I checked and the dealer was sending me pictures and spec sheets of the 2025 Equinox NOT the Equinox EV. They aren't available here yet. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!!! I can't believe I made a dumb mistake like that but having two very different cars with the same name didn't help.

      @lashlarue59 haha, yeah, that sounds like salesmen! This car is totally different because it's on the ultium platform. They only share a name, not much else with the ICE version. 😁

    The Model Y bests the Equinox in every category except the suspension. The suspension on the Equinox feels really nice. That's the problem with the mass-produced Teslas. They have to have a firm suspension to handle the abundance of power, and the air or magnetic ride they need is too costly/complex to keep them at a high volume price point.

      @kenhiett5266 I prefer the model Y myself especially for ease of travel from A to B but this Equinox is really big inside. I like it!

      @@livewirereview I agree. It's definitely a step in the right direction for GM. I thought about waiting for the Cadillac version (Optiq) instead of buying my Model Y. There's a lot to like about the Caddy as it solves some of the cosmetic and features issues I have with the Chevy. It's a roomy, solid ride, no doubt, but I don't regret putting another anonymous Y on the road. It has outperformed my expectations.

      @kenhiett5266 I love getting back in my model 3 every time I return a car. Only car I've enjoyed for almost 4 years without getting bored of it.

      @@ivanguerini995 Sorry, but the Tesla Y is objectively better in nearly every way. With the latest version of FSD, GM is even more outclassed technologically than it was when I made this post. There's a very good reason the Tesla Model Y became the best-selling vehicle in the world, which is absolutely amazing considering the price point. It's probably the best per dollar production vehicle ever made.
