@dscinaz and to think, I missed an important topic. Charge time on road trips. 45 minutes approx. I added this to my Blazer review I'm uploading now.
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊
Nice!
Best Equinox EV review I have come across
@@peterrichards1376 happy to hear it! I get the Blazer EV on the 30th. Anything I missed that you think I should cover?
Excellent video! I love that you actually get under the vehicle and dig around the suspension and such. I think I’m going to buy one of these tomorrow- I did a test drive today and was super impressed.
Thank you! I love how soft the ride is in this CUV. You're going to love it!
I like this way better than a Tesla . Have driven both and will be buying a Equinox EV AWD instead of the Tesla. Great video.
@@JenoFletter you're going to love it!
We have both, a Tesla model Y and a 2024 Equinox EV. While they both have their pros and cons; I like the Equinox EV better. Charging is not as good on the Equinox EV compared to the Tesla , the smartphone integration is better on the Tesla and the charge management is better on the Tesla. But I still like the Equinox EV better.
@lashlarue59 they do both have pros and cons, but both have a heat pump. The Tesla is far easier to road trip but the integration of Google maps with the charge % at arrival is a big step for the Equinox EV.
@@livewirereview Yep I remember when the lack of a heat pump came to a head with the Nissan Leaf a few years ago. Luckily most of the EV industry learned a lesson from that and started including them.
That best things I like about the Equinox is that they struck a good balance between controls on the screen and manual controls. There are just somethings that are quicker and easier to do manually that digging thru a menuing system; thats why I think Tesla went too far with that stuff.
The other great thing is the Equinox user interface is based on Android. So if you're familiar with the whole Google/ Android/smartphone thing with the App Store, installing apps, Google Maps etc. you are right at home.
Lastly the way the Equinox handles profiles is the way a real computer system handles sessions. You login to the Equinox with pin number which acts like a userid/password and at that point everything you do is in the context of your session/profile so no walking on other users preferences. I come from that background so when I saw that I was sold.
This is outstanding, keep up the unique reviews from a mechanical point of view. Can't believe I'm just now finding this channel.
@@Icayn thank you so much for this!
What a fantastic and comprehensive review! I’m so glad I decided to go with the Equinox EV AWD. I’m still getting the hang of the Super Cruise control features, but your insights are super helpful. Thank you for sharing!
Super cruise is fun! But when it loses signal it will just randomly cancel.
More info than I've found on the other videos on the Equinox EV........thanks !!
@Avatar1946 you're welcome! I felt like I left some out, but a video can only be so long, 😅.
Excellent review. Earned a like and subscribe. Great to see a nice Canadian review.
@@krisp8725 thank you!
I just purchased a 2025 Equinox EV AWD. I am very happy with it. GM does offer 19" wheels; the 21" wheels are standard for the RS trim.
Yes the 19" wheels will definitely net you better range!
Yet another impressive, thorough, no nonsense review! I just discovered your reviews today (with the Blazer EV which is what I'm leaning toward), and will be watching all of them when I get the time!
Thanks! Feel free to leave suggestions, too. Another subscriber mentioned that we should shoot under the car, and it's been a big hit!
@livewirereview indeed the fact that you go under the hood and under the car to show us the drivetrain, suspension, etc., sets you apart from the abundance of other reviewers out there! I learned some valuable things about the Blazer EV and Equinox EV from your videos, even after watching dozens of others on both vehicles.
Very good review!
Especially liked seeing it up on a lift!
The Mrs and I took delivery of a 25 LT BLK just before Xmas and are absolutely loving it!
I continue to scour videos for more info about this awesome vehicle…!
Thanks for the video and info…!
You're welcome! Thanks for the comments.
Thank you for this thorough review. I bought the 2025 RS FWD and love it.
It's quite possibly the most popular EV right now. Everyone seems to love it!
Thank you! No one else is covering important stuff like the heat pump, not even the dealer (I hope they have it here in the states too!)
@cliffbd it wasn't mentioned, lol. I'm just familiar with the equipment because I'm a licensed EV technician. 😅
I can tell. Great review.
Nice job, this is my first time watching you. I watch primarily car videos, how I have not seen you before, I do not know.
Let me start by saying there needs to be more reviewers like you.
Your professionalism is most welcome. There is one reviewer is joshing around and I cannot entertain that behavior. Your review was right on. I have subscribed to your channel. I want an EV and I am handicapped and want to know more about charge times. Even if it isndone with brevity. Again, "Thank you."
@@carlosmcmahon623 I missed the charge time! This metric wasn't available as they stated a certain number of miles in 10 minutes. From what I have just looked up, it's about the same as the Mach-E and others at 45 min for a 10-80% charge time. A little slow for road trips. I prefer 20-25 min.
Love the way this thing looks. Adore the big screens.
Great review, as everyone says. Disappointing on the google maps being an extra cost, but hopefully it won't be too much. And yeah I hate modern head rests. Just horrible for me. I end up flipping the head rest around to make it comfortable. I know its a safety feature, but kind of pointless if its uncomfortable.
The head rests in the Genesis GV60 are MUCH worse. These weren't too bad after that car.
Luckily you get Google maps for 8 years, so it's not that bad after all.
Thank you for your very thorough review. I love the underbody and inside the hood tour with your explanations of the mechanics used. 🎉🎉
@lhnemec we had a viewer request it and it's been a big hit!
Great review! We just picked up an Equinox EV from Tom Smith. Great to see some local content and more mechanical info. Thanks!
@@ScottTurner-r8s Thank you! I'm picking up the Blazer EV on Sept 30th. What do you think I should add in that one?
We are brand new to the EV world so it’s hard to say. Charging times with home chargers would be nice. We are still shopping for one. What made you go for the Blazer over the Equinox?
@ScottTurner-r8s I mean for review! I pick them up from GM Canada and drive them for a week.
Home charge is usually about 9 hours. Fast charge for the Equinox is about 45 minutes.
The Grizzl-E is usually the cheapest and best choice for a home charger. Made in Canada and very robust. You shouldn't need a smart charger for the Equinox.
Thanks for the charging info! Seems like the biggest difference between the Equinox and the Blazer is $15,000 🤷♂️
@@ScottTurner-r8s 😅 I will mention that for sure!
Great review! We purchased ours last month and love it! It feels and drives like a luxury vehicle.
@@naderkawas7137 it's a great ride!
What are your observations on DC charging 20-80% in min.? Would love to hear back as I am about to buy one. Big thanks.
@@johnk1566 I estimate this EV to take about 40 to 45 minutes to fast charge. If you get a 350kw 1000v DC charger then the speed should be faster. Around 30 to 35 minutes instead.
We have a 2015 Equinox (ICE, of course) which our sons each respectively took to college and the younger one still has it after graduation. He loves it. We also have an '18 Trax (again, ICE). Both drive extremely well and, if we were to get an EV, it looks like the Equinox is probably what we would get.--especially since it's in the same price class as the ICE version. Thanks for the review.
Definitely recommend this one, especially at this price point!
Best Equinox review ever. Thank you very much I was looking for more mechanical deeper review and I found definitely everything I needed here. Thank you again!
@@chouchenwejden4499 you're welcome! Thanks for the comments!
Love your review. I agree with everything you say. Looks great and has good range. A step above the competition and not higher price, even lower than many. Can't wait to get one.
@andylange3827 Honestly, they didn't really miss anything with this one!
Good job reviewing. I really like the way you go through the vehicle. Your quite different than most all.
The regen is important to me. You could cover that more.
@vinsonhelton7141 thanks for the idea, I will! The Equinox uses a blended or simulated brake pedal like a lot of other EVs, so you get regen first, then friction brakes. It blends well and stops very smoothly. There is a small paddle for max regen on the steering wheel like the kona. I'm not sure why you would want this, but it's there. You can set regen levels and there is one pedal braking. The one pedal braking works quite well, and I used both during my time with it.
@livewirereview
Thank you
I use full regen if there are levels all the time except when the road is either puddling heavy from rain or is slick then I turn off regen and use the paddle at times I think I can. Also when using regen fully if I need a little more regen because I'm overshooting a little some vehicles will regen a little more using the paddle with regen already fully on.
Great fair review love your tech knowledge. I receive mine from the dealership Sept 16th
@@willwray8511 that's awesome! I'm sure you're going to love it!
I have seem many reviewers makit the same mistake with auto popping handled. You DO NOT have to pull twice. Its by design. When you approach, handle pops out and when you put your hand behind the handle, it unlcoks the car. You dont have to pulss twice. Just once after it unlocks it ( by you putting your hand behind the handle)
@Abevlife more of a comment than a mistake. It's slow to respond and should just unlock the doors when you approach. Just something I noticed and did not enjoy.
@@livewirereview understand. It's by design. Some people like it, some don't. I am okay if it doesn't unlock as it pops out as if I am passing by the car, I don't want it to unlock. But it does not need to be pulled twice. Just need to wait a fraction of a second before pulling the handle.

Good coverage. I'm trying to decide between a Bolt and this car, and this definitely tempts me to buy the Equinox.
@@DougCooper-m1t Equinox = heat pump, tons of room, Awd available. Bolt = PTC heat, smaller, Fwd.
Check them both out and let me know what you think!
@@livewirereview I ended up buying a 2022 Bolt EUV primarily because this is my first EV and I didn't want to spend the extra $8000 or so on the Equinox.
Bolts are the if you don't need a giant vehicle. You can blast the heat on shorter trips, using seat heaters as primary is probably more efficient then a heat pump
Excellent review!

@TopDogUSA Great looking car! There is a black one that drives around here and it looks sharp.

Impressive review and impressive vehicle, better than I expected. I am a bolt EV owner can't wait to see the new / refreshed Bolt, I'm afraid it's going to be more like euv than EV tho.
@rp9674 I think you're right, it will look more like the EUV. I hope they put a heat pump in the new Bolt though.
@@livewirereviewmore toys equals more $$$ tho
@@rp9674 The Kona did it and managed a good price 🙌
Kona $33,500 you could attribute some of that higher price to the additional cost of a heat pump.
Not only manufacturer cost but market pricing.
If they made bolt with faster charging speed, heat pump pretty soft interior, big wheels why would they sell it at 30k, it's in a different category
@@rp9674 I'm just glad GM is offering EVs at a great price point. That will get more people into them.
Great Review ❤ thank you sooo much !!
You're welcome! I just reviewed the Silverado EV this week. Check that one out too!
Just a note - this is one of the slowest accelerating EV's out there. It is not much (if any) faster than a gas car. The rest is good. However, there are major glitches with the infotainment system. Constantly forgets cell phone pairing, sometimes auto headlight dimmer doesn't work, changes drive mode on its own, and many more issues.
You are correct, this is a very slow EV in FWD trim. The AWD is noticeably faster!
I didn't have the glitches that you mentioned but I did notice that the right turn signal wouldn't turn off sometimes. Must be a GM thing!
Thanks for your excellent review, you covered all aspects so far about the Equinox EV from al videos available on youtube at this time, specially for Canadians ;-).
One question, can we apply and anti rust treatment like a normal vehicle or is not at option? and also at 6:01 I see a kind of black cover under the hood, like to protect the underneath of the door hood, I bought the base version of the Equinox EV 2025 and mine didn't come with this protective panel, is that normal? is that of a concern not having it?, many many thanks!
Thank you! As for the black panel, it's not necessary for anything, so you won't need it.
Rustproofing is an interesting topic. I personally highly recommend rustproofing, BUT EVs and hybrids use HV wires. The system checks these wires for electrical leakage every time the vehicle is turned on. This is known as isolation resistance. If the solvents in the rustproofing cause those wires to expand their insulation and this causes a fault, then it wouldn't be covered under warranty. It's not a huge deal, and I haven't seen this happen yet on any customers' cars that are heavily rustproofed.
@ many thanks for taking the time to answer, I appreciate very much, and learning at the same time. Just one more question, is that true that we need absolutely aluminum mags for EV vehicles or we can do it with normal steel wheels? It's controversial issue because most of vendors discourage people to go for cheap steel rims, but why??
@Monsieur-Estrada steel rims work just fine. However some steel rims do not fit around the calipers on some vehicles. You will have to test fit the rim before purchase.
@ excellent, many thanks again
OK, I like the video, great info. Can you show the inverter, high power module and it's outputs and inputs? like where the plugs go to and that? I want to know where the DC/DC converter is, where are it's harnesses and their routing, I only see the option for one single interior 110vAC plug at 150 watts. if it's even equipped. it looks like there's plenty of space to install an inverter in the 2000W class like you could in the Bolt, there is even studs with threads on the top of that distribution module. I'd love to see an indepth video on that module.
@allys537 you would be one of the few! The Hyundai/Kia EVs already come with V2L. That might be a better choice.
I did try the same though on the Kona. I was worried about overloading the DC to DC converter though so I only installed a 1200w inverter.
@@livewirereview true, but I don't actually *like* those other cars...

@ 12:45 I figured this out. You dont have to pull twice you need to wait a sec there is a sensor for your hand on the handle then it unlocks then you open.
@JohnnyChronic18 Yes. But it's very slow to respond. Other cars unlock instantly.
@@livewirereview Now that I know this detail I have no issue using it. Haven't tried other EVs with the feature likely you mean Tesla?
Tesla is slow if the car is asleep. Otherwise very quick.

@@ivanguerini995 thank you!
Great video review, but it's missing details on DC charging. I am hearing some poor reviews. However I would like to see your test review and comments. Especially when doing a long trip. If anyone has some feedback on 20-80% times that would be great. Big thanks again.
You're 100% right. For some reason, I forgot to mention the DC fast charging speed. At a dedicated 350kw 1000v charging station, the charge times are likely around 30 minutes. But I've found that this is another EV that usually takes around 45 minutes. A little slow for my liking on a road trip.
I'll be discussing this a little more in the Silverado EV WT video I'm filming this afternoon.
I like the car, but I think GM still has some things to work out with their charging times. So I have decided to buy a Ioniq5. Same comfort but way more value and proven tech. including some of the fastest DC charging times.
@johnk1566 I can genuinely appreciate this! I was discussing charge times for road trips with a colleague yesterday, and this topic came up. I am a big fan of EVs that can charge quickly in 18-24min. My car can do that and it's a pleasure to bring on a road trip. Just long enough to get a coffee and go to the bathroom. I think you made an excellent choice. 👌
Yeah I noticed the wind noise too heh. Hopefully they switch to double pane on the front windows at least in the next model year. Quite enjoying our blue equinox so far otherwise. The powertrain is so buttery smooth.
@@iNFECTED_pIE so smooth! And those squishy bumps! Double pane usually fixes most noise.
Maybe they should go double pane with upscale trims to keep the base cheap
@@rp9674 they have single pane windows in the Equinox EV. That's the first thing I checked 😅.
So the 2 motor AWD version is not all the time AWD like let's say a Subaru Outback?
That is correct. The induction motor is the passive one but it can turn on within milliseconds when required.
You don't have to pull the handle twice. You just need to touch the handle for a few sec for it to unlock the doors.
@@petertruong8611 agreed. But after getting used to other cars with much faster processing time to unlock the doors, this seems unnecessarily slow to respond.
3 years supercruise included and 8 years maps…. Need to correct that in your review , exept for that great review. Since you went under would of like to know if it was 4 wheels disc brakes
@Alan-dl2ct thank you for this! Yes it does have 4 wheel disc. I did mention 2 piston front and 1 piston rear. Only the VW EVs have rear drum from what I've seen so far.
good review but what is the difference between the two years
@soyouwanttodowhatido007 that is explained in the undercar section. Just a slight power bump for 2025 and some tweaks to the trim packages. Nothing more.
@@livewirereview cool
You should also drive and review the AWD version. Do the more expensive versions have dual-pain glass?
No I don't believe they do. The Cadillac is likely to have dual-pane glass, but they change a few things other than that. The Cadillac will be rear biased whereas this is front biased with cheaper materials. Fairly normal for GM. The AWD won't be much different except for more traction, less range and a bit quicker.
@@livewirereview - The Optiq might be a wise choice if you're spending $50K +. But it lacks a rear wiper. The 2026 Ioniq 5 will gain a wiper with a better range. The same is true with the smaller Rivian model, R3/x and R2.
Sounds great!
I have test drove both the FWD and AWD. The AWD is quicker. You can get 19 inch wheels on the lower trims. I would recommend getting the 19 inch. I believe Google maps is included for 8 years but other apps are just 3 years. I haven't seen the pricing for the subscription. We have been driving evs for 7 years and the equinox is on our short list to replace our ICE car.
@stevenesheim I don't blame you, it's a great car especially for the price! I, too, would recommend the 19-inch wheels. Other reviewers have found that the range was identical at 260 miles with a FWD 21" and an AWD 19" due to the efficiency improvements with the smaller wheels.
Cheaper tires for 19-inch, presumably
Pretty good review
I think that the subscription for the data and maps is actually 8 years. (Could it be that the self-driving is the one that is 3 years?)
@davids1816 that is correct. 8 years for maps and 3 years for supercruise. That was my understanding as well. I'll double check the response I got from GM if this is incorrect.
You don't have to pull the door handle twice, the door unlocks based on a sensor on the back of the door handle. These sensors are only on the front door handles.
@@jasonl6463 that's awesome! I'm sure you're going to love it!

@@livewirereviewwell it is a very nice vehicle BUT I do not like RWD and I've always driven SUVs prior to 2013 then switched to EVs (Leafs) so I miss the higher driving position. I most likely will be leasing the Equinox in Sept 2025 when my KIA lease expires. Thx for the detailed review.... 😎
@@bobo-is-great I hope you enjoy your new ride!
How does it compare to your Y? Which year Y do you have? I have a 2022 Y without the comfort ride so mine has a firmer ride.
@guyg2005 I have a model 3 myself. The last model Y I drove was a 2023 with the comfort suspension. The Y has a very sporty and stiff suspension. The Equinox EV drives squishy like an ICE Equinox. It's a very familiar large GM crossover feel when it hits bumps. But they are absorbed very well. There is nothing sporty about it at all.
The 2LT version has 19" wheels.
Yes and in some testing the Fwd with 21" wheels matched the Awd with 19" wheels because of the difference they make in range. 19" is a good choice. 👍
I'm a little confused by the 24 - 25 label. What changes are most important in the 25? Is it worth waiting for?
@dalesophiea for the Equinox there was a power bump. For the Blazer it was a black roof option, midnight package and small changes to the the LT trim packages. Not much different. If you can get an end of year deal, go for the 24.

Hey Guys
How long does it take to fully charge using regular 120 volt wall outlet?
Lets say from 20% to 100%
@@vladimirfridman5097 nearly 3 days.
@6:54 - I spy what looks to me like a traditional car battery on your right there... Am I correct? If so, why do EVs still have traditional car batteries if they don't have any engine to start?
@FraserGoodTimes all of the low voltage electronics still run at 12v. Only the Cybertruck at the moment runs a 48v system. This would be the radio, doors, windows, turning on the relays for the PRA, and much more. There is a circuit that turns the high voltage DC power to low voltage DC power to run these things, and it charges the 12v battery like an alternator in an ICE vehicle.
How long do modern EV batteries tend to last? Like what sort of percent decrease in total capacity can you expect every year, average? Someone asked me recently - if you take great care of a combustion engine car, it typically will last 20+ years, and can do all the same tricks as before pretty much. EV batteries degrade though, so if I had one for 20 years, it's like the gas tank will have shrunk. But by roughly how much?
Doesnt really matter. in 20 years. there will me a metric assload of used batteries on the market simply from people who got in a fender bender and the insurance company totaled the car.
@FraserGoodTimes 10-15 years average but can last longer. 70% capacity is when they are removed and then used for grid storage. You'll lose 5% the first year (unless degradation is hidden like in this one and the Hyundai/Kia products). Then it's around 1-2% per year after. At 90% capacity, the degradation slows to a crawl, and the battery spends most of its life there.
You should expect 200,000 to 400,000 out of a EV Battery.
In the next couple of years we’ll see million mile batteries.
@dennisknehans3206 Yes, this is accurate. A lot of large batteries go over 600,000km.

@E_Wumi_V marketing@evdances.com right? I'll send another.
@@livewirereview yes, this is mine
He's talking about the 2025 Equinox EV but he's showing the 2024. The 2025 looks totally different and it's bigger. In my opinion they totally ruined the looks of it in 2025 with the frontend looking very boxy with a huge grill which makes the car look like just another SUV.
@@lashlarue59 are you referring to the Blazer EV by any chance? The Equinox EV changes very little for 2025, just 2 trims and a slight bump in power.
@@livewirereviewYou are right and I was wrong! About two weeks ago I bought my wife a 2024 Equinox EV and we are very happy with it. So I was thinking about buying another one for myself so I contacted the dealer and he started sending me pictures of the 2025's and I didn't like the looks of them so I told them no. When you responded to me it got me thinking so I checked and the dealer was sending me pictures and spec sheets of the 2025 Equinox NOT the Equinox EV. They aren't available here yet. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!!! I can't believe I made a dumb mistake like that but having two very different cars with the same name didn't help.
@lashlarue59 haha, yeah, that sounds like salesmen! This car is totally different because it's on the ultium platform. They only share a name, not much else with the ICE version. 😁
The Model Y bests the Equinox in every category except the suspension. The suspension on the Equinox feels really nice. That's the problem with the mass-produced Teslas. They have to have a firm suspension to handle the abundance of power, and the air or magnetic ride they need is too costly/complex to keep them at a high volume price point.
@kenhiett5266 I prefer the model Y myself especially for ease of travel from A to B but this Equinox is really big inside. I like it!
@@livewirereview I agree. It's definitely a step in the right direction for GM. I thought about waiting for the Cadillac version (Optiq) instead of buying my Model Y. There's a lot to like about the Caddy as it solves some of the cosmetic and features issues I have with the Chevy. It's a roomy, solid ride, no doubt, but I don't regret putting another anonymous Y on the road. It has outperformed my expectations.
@kenhiett5266 I love getting back in my model 3 every time I return a car. Only car I've enjoyed for almost 4 years without getting bored of it.
Why worry about this Tesla owners ?? Hehe this is way better
@@ivanguerini995 Sorry, but the Tesla Y is objectively better in nearly every way. With the latest version of FSD, GM is even more outclassed technologically than it was when I made this post. There's a very good reason the Tesla Model Y became the best-selling vehicle in the world, which is absolutely amazing considering the price point. It's probably the best per dollar production vehicle ever made.
One of the best review!
@user-js4cs5ls4w thank you!
