I've had it forever. It's fabulous for putting down a project, picking it up months later. You know exactly where you left off. Couldn't be without it. Can't say enough.
I was a beginner knitter 5 years ago, and got this software after I’d been knitting about 3 months. My fellow knitters now describe me as “expert”. Well I wouldn’t call myself expert, but I learned so much just by using Knit Companion. Utilizing you tube links, being able to organize my patterns, put notes or even corrections on patterns that may have been in error, or updated by the designer has been wonderful! So glad to see someone as well known as Staci Perry at Very Pink recommend this software is wonderful. It is fabulous software, and I never knit without it!
I immediately went and downloaded the application and this has made me a happy knitter!!! We travel often and carry my iPad so now I can leave behind my pattern holder behind with no worries of losing my spot on the paper. Love technology and thank you so much for sharing!
I have used this software from its inception. The lady who developed KnitCompanion is a software designer by profession who posses the ”Ikigai” to create this program. Every nuance is phenomenal, especially the self-create ability for row repeats, counters and stitch counter by colors. I have not printed a pattern in ages, except when no .pdf is available (thank you scanners!). I not only use this software for knitting and crochet~my Hardanger, needlepoint and cross-stitch patterns integrate as well. No pattern, written or charted, is too large. My Shetland and Estonian wrap patterns ... well, no more countless sheets of paper. Too much hype, you say....maybe, but I am sold on this software. Try it!
Can you tell me how to set up a pattern on there that I'm working on? Say I'm knitting a hat - how do I get the pattern onto the app? Once on there, then I'll have to figure out how to use it, but can't get to step two without a step one! LOL
Worth every penny for all the features. I love the smart counters and you can split screen between chart and symbols. I use this every single day. Thank you for showing me how to insert videos already linked in pdf. The paid version let's you link any video, but I was unaware how to use links already built in the pattern! There is always something new to learn!
I can’t imagine how I knitted without this program. Excellence is shown in every aspect of this program. You get so much!! I can’t get over how much more I accomplish using this program!!
I am knitting the Oban Cardigan. I just did the first two set up rows. Thanks to Knit Companion I got a 250-stitch cabled set up row correct the first time I tried. It has never gone that well. Bless you for your introduction and mini lessons. I love it.
I got this app when it first came out and never really figured out how to use it. This is the most concise tutorial of it I've seen. There were features you showed that I didn't even know were there!
WOW! I was watching the video you posted about a week ago and you referred to this one. I was able to listen, set up, and USE for a hat I’m knitting....WHILE at my coffee shop and it’s busy this morning! Thank You so much! Whenever someone asks me about a stitch or anything knitting related, I always ‘recommend starting with Very Pink Knits’! You’ve made my day yet again 😊
Two of my favorite things: Knit Companion and a Very Pink Knits video to show me things I didn’t know about it! I’m excited for more of your videos on this. The more advanced chart set up is genius. Thank you Staci!
I love knit companion! Been using about 3 years. I didn’t realize the You Are Here button. Might be new feature. Didn’t know about timer either. Thank you!
I just watched all four of your KC videos. I’ve been using the program for several years but hadn’t noticed some of the new features. They are always improving! Your enthusiasm is infectious and I learned quite a bit. Thank you for doing this.
Staci, this is as you said:” a game changer”! I LOVE this knit companion software! Am working on a complicated stranded tree skirt and it is already making a HUGE difference! Thank you for posting these videos. You really have a gift for simplifying things!
I’ve been using Knit Companion since you posted this tutorial. I am loving it. Previously I almost exclusively used paper patterns. Now I just keep Knit Companion on my iPhone and have it at my finger tips as I knit and crochet. Thanks for the tutorial.
I bought an iPad Pro for this app. It didn’t work on my Samsung 10.1 S-Pen so worth it. I hope you continue with this series. Is not totally intuitive. This helps a lot thank you.
I purchased this two months ago as soon as your review came out. I was a paper pattern person. Hands down. There was no other way. As soon as I downloaded this to my iPad and messed around with it for a few minutes, I knew I had to have the full version. Within an hour I had figured out how to upload my Ravelry patterns (and those that aren't Ravelry with help from Knitters Companion--i.e., patterns from Etsy); and afterwards, place text boxes; upload multiple video examples of certain stitches in one project and toggle back and forth between them (from Very Pink Knits, of course); edit my text boxes as needed; add stitch counters and change colors; underline; highlight; add project notes; adjust my time if I've left my app open while not working a project..... The ruler is quite handy as well. And not only have I uploaded my knitting patterns, I've uploaded my crochet patterns AND QUILT PATTERNS!!! Knitting is not my main hobby, but Quilting is. It didn't take me very long at all to figure out that it works VERY well for that too! What a value-added app! The best $$ I've ever spent on an app. Ever. I only wish it wasn't a subscription, but hey... it's highly useful in my knitting, crocheting, AND quilting. You cannot beat that. As long as I'm involved in any of those three hobbies, this is my go-to. No more paper (unless I have a quilt pattern already on paper). If you're used to messing with "technology," this app is really user friendly and intuitive. It is VERY well thought out and worth every penny. You have got to have this!! 🤓
I have had the free version for quite a while and I really enjoy it. I love the timer because my non knit/crochet friends always want to know how long a project took, now I know at a glance.
I’ve been using KnitCompanion for a long time. This year I decided to purchase the paid version and it offers you a lot more options. Definitely worth getting. Depending on what you want, basic is great.
@@verypinkknits I just downloaded the free version to look at it before buying but can't figure out how to get my patterns in there? I don't belong to Ravelry so is there another way to get my personal patterns saved in there?
Thank you for this tutorial. It was very helpful to those of us trying to figure Knit Companion out. I hope you do more as you learn the other features.
Thanks for showing all the wonderful features of this app. I downloaded this app for almost a year and never learn how to use it! Now, I am motivated to use it. Thanks for sharing! ❤️❤️
I had this app a long time ago but didn't know how to use it. Then I watched your video and omg. I redownload it and so much easier now. I Subscribed to it. The video tutorials that you can add to your patterns is the best thing since chocolate. Thank you!
I have had this app. for a while and never used it because I use Goodnotes on IOS but after watching your run-through of the features today I have already linked my Ravelry patterns and started a project .Thank you for the video.
Staci, in that notes section you can "clip" your pattern abbreviations (or any part of the pattern you want to refer to often) and paste it to the notes so you can always access them no matter what page you're on. So there's no need to go back and forth between pages. You can also clip the charts and create them on their own pages. You can stitch charts together or break them apart. SO, so much you can do. I have eye tracking issues and have so much trouble with paper charts, But with KC I NEVER lose my place. This software has revolutionized my knitting. For real.
Yes, thanks. There are a TON of features I didn't demonstrate here, in the spirit of keeping it really simple to show that it's really easy to use. We're looking at the possibility of doing more KnitCompanion videos in the future, where I can demonstrate more cool features.
I have tracking issues also. One thing I do which helps is, after setting up stitch counters on a chart, I change the stitch colors. For example right twist is red, left twist is blue. Makes a big difference!
Wow - I didn't even know you could do that, Sue! Looks like we are going to put more KnitCompanion videos out (talking with the developers now), I'll learn all of these things so I can demonstrate them. :)
Mind blown! I had no idea this app existed and I’ve been knitting for years. I can’t wait to start using it. Thank you so much for the amazing tutorial.
Came here because I added a video to my pattern and didn't know how to play it. Thank you so much for your tutorials. It's worth every second. KC is so complex you need tutorials to get every feature
Hi Stacy. Patreon patron here. I love your Knit Companion tutorials. Realized I had to rewatch when I stopped using for a few months - there’s so much to remember. I hit a fiddly pattern with all kinds of keys and graphs, etc and needed it again. Your tutorials are really great on this. Thank you!
I’ve been using Knit Companion for more than a year, and promote it in my Ravelry notes every chance I get. It made knitting Norah Gaughan’s Vesta pattern so much easier, keeping track of where I left off, multiple stitch counts, and color coding all the different stitches and legend. If the Sode cardigan ever becomes available for purchase as a PDF, I’m ready!
Thanks for this! Even though like all well-designed software, Knit Companion is very intuitive, your tutorial makes it that much easier to begin the mind change to get off paper and onto a device.
I have been waiting for this app to come along! Thanks for the tutorial, I was sold on it so fast, I downloaded while listening to you, and followed along!!!
Already downloaded on my iPhone and iPad. Your video was recommended on a Facebook group I’m in. I was already a follower so I knew you would make it look easy. Thx for your video
A friend recommended Knit Companion years ago, but I didn’t get the paid version until last May. I absolutely love it! I knit a lot of lace shawls and love the convenience of using the chart mode where I can color my stitches and count the rows as I go. I also add the stitch key to the bottom of the page where the notes go. I’m still learning features as I go, however, and didn’t know about the video links-thanks, Stacy! I also didn’t realize that I could access and remove the notes from the top bar. There are just so many features to learn-like the counters and linked counters, that I’m still working on it.
Yes - I love that about this app...you can keep it really simple (as I demonstrate in this video), or you can get really into like you have. We're looking at the possibility of doing more KnitCompanion videos that get into the other features.
Have used KC since it’s inception but the new NG has me stymied. With you as our guide, I’m sure there are many of us you will finally get brave enough to really try to learn it. It’s partly a matter of time for me. Anyway, I’m thrilled you are doing these KC tutorials, Stacie. You always make things easier. ShariM in Canada
This app is fabulous! Thanks Staci for keeping us informed. I’m sharing with my knitting group. Your cable mitts are the first pattern I’m trying on the paid upgrade of the app. I’m SO excited. 11/26/19 update-This app is so easy to use. There are only 2 people in my 52 person yarn group using the app but maybe at the basic level. Please do more videos! Game changer is an understatement!
I’ve been using KC for a couple of years and I tell everyone I know about it. I’ve often wished I could just write a note directly on the pattern and never even noticed the squiggly icon before! I hope as you learn something cool with this app you’ll share it with us as you go along. I’ve spent hours on the online tutorials and there is so much more to this app than I’ll ever use! Thanks for sharing.
This video made my day! I’ve been using this app for years and was wondering how many makers know about it. I’ve been a fan of yours for many years now and have enjoyed watching your growth. Please keep shining 🤓👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Well...THANK YOU for bring Christmas EARLY!! I will be staying up late tonight uploading and organizing patterns. This is so much fun and and true GAME CHANGER!!
KC IS a game changer!! NO worry about paper patterns when I travel! LOVE having cross stitch on it too. And thanks so much for showing how to add video clips! I may need to get the paid for version (if my iPad isn’t too old for it). Thank you Stacey!
Thank you for your excellent narration. I am nearly blind and unable to see the demonstration. Your narration was clear and precise and, I think, complete. I feel like I missed little or nothing, though I cannot assess the quality of your handwriting.
You are just wonderful!!! This is what I have been needing. I have muddled my way through some of the basic features, but I am so looking forward to keeping up with your videos. Thank you!!!!
My goodness I bought this app months ago and bam here is what I’ve needed since I just got frustrated after I bought it and didn’t know how to use it Thank you 🙏
I am so glad you demonstrated this app! I've been looking for a pattern holder and all I looked at were negatively reviewed for the most part. I had even asked my husband to make me one. Now he doesn't have too! I am currently uploading all my patterns I've downloaded from Ravelry and other sites and am looking forward to using this as part of my knitting nook (where I sit to knit with all my stuff near me). I've even done the tuts for it and may consider purchasing the essential version in the future. THANK YOU!!!!
I have an android tablet and it works a little differently on android, but is still amazing. Like you, I'm just using the tip of the iceberg with this application. It is amazing for colorwork charts!
I purchased KC over the summer and had used free version years ago a little. One thing that has me stumped and I would LOVE to see a video from you on, is linked counters. Bottom up vest pattern I am using has several cable charts, then I will need to keep these going while doing armholes and v neck. I guess it would be a bit similar to your mitts. Thanks for doing KC videos now!!!
We are right this minute talking about content for additional videos! It looks like more counter features will be a part of the next video, currently scheduled for release on Jan 29.
Really good tutorial- I’ve been holding back from using this tool - you’ve opened my eyes and convinced me that I could benefit from the technology. Thanks.
I am a knitting designer, but have been on the fence about KnitCompanion for years. I just somehow prefer pen and paper for some things, and I saw some bad reviews earlier on. Because of your wonderful tutorials, I have decided to take the plunge! I prefer Android to iPad. I hope some day us Android users get more features and more 😁❤
Thank you, as always you give us the greatest explanation for how to use or do something. I up loaded this software and am enjoying it greatly. It is wonderful to go back to a 2nd project and knowing exactly where you left off. I’m just using the basic program and the features are fabulous.
I love KC and use it a lot. The paid version is worth the money if you knit a lot. However, my iPad is an iPad Air and won’t upgrade to iOS 13 so there are some features (like scribble) that don’t work for me. If you have an older tablet you might want to check out which features work only with iOS 13. Thanks for this video, Staci, as always, your generosity is amazing.
Downloading the free version now on my android tablet. Hopefully I will be able to use enough features to determine whether or not I should try the paid version. I see there is both a video tour, tutorials, guides and FAQs for those of us new to the program. Thanks again for bringing something new to your followers!
Thanks for this review. I downloaded the free version and am excited to use it. This will be much better than using iBooks for the pattern and a knit counter as separate apps. All in one is great!
Thanks for this. I had just deleted it cause I couldn’t figure out how to work it properly. Now I re installed it and will try again. It does look a lot better then the other app I was using.
I just started using Knit Companion and love it! I love it even more since I found this video! Another feature I like, which you didn’t mention, is the Quick Key, at the bottom of the page. The pattern I’m using (the written version, not the chart) has several abbreviations I’ve never used before, and there are two that I keep getting confused. I keep the QK open at the bottom with the abbreviations there, and I can quickly check to make sure I’m doing the correct stitch. I’m sure it would also help with keeping symbols straight when using charts. Very useful for my addled 70+ year old brain.
Thanks for a great intro. It was very timely as I was working on a paper pattern and I couldn’t see the charts as they were too small. This really helped.
This software is great! I tried using my iPad with pdfs and could follow along and take notes right on the page but I hated that the iPad would fall asleep and I had to let go of my knitting to wake it up. This alone forced me to go to paper and for a tech savvy user that hasn't had a printer in 10 years, I really hated that part of a knitting project. This software can over-ride the fall asleep feature and the iOS version has voice commands! After this video I bought the full version and haven't looked back. This app also instilled the habit of reading through a whole pattern before I begin. I spend a little bit of time building my project, highlighting areas I don't understand and searching for video support. I splice charts together, add tutorials, counters, highlight things I need to pay attention to, turn on voice control and I start knitting. Second favorite feature is the ability for the software to remind me that the row I'm on has an increase/decrease. I can't tell you how many times when I get on a roll and forgot something and had to frog back to decrease - the software not only reminds me but won't let me advance if I don't acknowledge that I did the decrease. Thank you Stacy for this review and all of your tutorials, I'm looking to learning more in both my knitting and using this app.
You are getting so much from the software! And I was just thinking last night how I appreciate the fact that KC keeps my iPad awake while I'm using it...my hands were full with a complicated stitch, and I was able to glance at the screen to see what was coming next without the need to wake my iPad up. More KC videos coming soon - the next one is Feb 5!
This is a tremendous series of tutorial lessons. Well done, Staci, superior job organizing the lessons & delivering the subject matter. You must have educator-training. Kudos!
I just added your cabled fingerless mitts to my KC projects the other day! 😺 I’ve been using the software for a few years and it is well worth the money for the upgraded features! I will try the video links with this project I haven’t been able to figure out the feature with all your other patterns in my project list. Great tutorial!
Thank you! I’m about to start an intricate cable sweater and was looking for a way to keep track of the rows. I did not know about this software and now I have it, I’m thrilled.
Thank you so much for this review. I make a sweater. I have all kinds of notes on the pattern for later use. I toss the pattern thinking I am never going to make the same sweater twice. Then, in the future, I am a better knitter now, I decide I want to make that sweater again with better yarn. Where is that old pattern, well I tossed it. This would be a great way to save all the notes from a project. They would be right there to use when I make the project again.
Thanks so much for sharing this! I have been hunting for a good knitting software . I'm even more excited because I can use it with beading graphs as well.
I've had it forever. It's fabulous for putting down a project, picking it up months later. You know exactly where you left off. Couldn't be without it. Can't say enough.

You can access patterns from your Ravelry library or Dropbox, both are free services.
You can copy a PDF file to knit companion from the web. I’ve saved files from yarnspirations.com and other sites.
LR 1223 you can copy PDF files from transpiration.com and other sites to KnitCompanion. I usually do this using my iPad
Are you kidding?! Sold! I have so many patterns in iBooks and Ravelry! I am both a crocheted and advanced beginner knitter!

I love this program. Been using for quite a few months, 18 in fact. I love it too.
Staci please keep up with these lessons they are awesome
So happy for this tutorial! I have KnitCompanion but haven't gotten too much into it because it's overwhelming! Excited to try it out now!
Mookie Raye I’m the same!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Very helpful. I’m in love with knit companion now. Before I was just frustrated
Well...THANK YOU for bring Christmas EARLY!! I will be staying up late tonight uploading and organizing patterns. This is so much fun and and true GAME CHANGER!!
Staci - you are just the best!!! Thanks for your endless help!!!
Thanks Staci, that was a convincing introduction. I can save a forest by using this.
Thank you!
I downloaded the app and had no idea what A game changer this is !
You are just wonderful!!! This is what I have been needing. I have muddled my way through some of the basic features, but I am so looking forward to keeping up with your videos. Thank you!!!!
Everyone should have a KnitCompanion, it is the best
Thank you so much. I had subscribed years ago, just did not get it. Your video and walk thru this app was a game changer for me... thank you again!
Thank you so much for this intro! This is so much more helpful than I thought it would be!
My goodness I bought this app months ago and bam here is what I’ve needed since I just got frustrated after I bought it and didn’t know how to use it Thank you 🙏
Oooooh! I love new organizational tools. I've played with a couple other apps but this one looks like the right thing for me. Thanks Staci!!
I have had the unpaid for years. At the 2018 VKL in NYC -I stopped at their booth set up..
The upgrades seem worth the subscription
Staci, thank you very much for this video! I've had KC for a while but you mentioned a couple of things I wasn't aware I had access to!
I have an android tablet and it works a little differently on android, but is still amazing. Like you, I'm just using the tip of the iceberg with this application. It is amazing for colorwork charts!
I got knit companion this summer but haven’t used it.Thanks for the tutorial. It was so helpful.
Wow - so very handy! I can't tell you how many times I've lost my paper pattern, lost where I am in a pattern. So nice for lace projects.
Oh my goodness! Thank you Staci! I have all my patterns digitally on my ipad and I will totally use this!
How do you turn a page that’s put in sideways
I purchased KC over the summer and had used free version years ago a little. One thing that has me stumped and I would LOVE to see a video from you on, is linked counters. Bottom up vest pattern I am using has several cable charts, then I will need to keep these going while doing armholes and v neck.
I guess it would be a bit similar to your mitts. Thanks for doing KC videos now!!!
We are right this minute talking about content for additional videos! It looks like more counter features will be a part of the next video, currently scheduled for release on Jan 29.
VeryPink Knits Super!!! I cannot always understand their videos, so a second source would be wonderful!
Really good tutorial- I’ve been holding back from using this tool - you’ve opened my eyes and convinced me that I could benefit from the technology. Thanks.
THANK YOU!! I have Knit Companion and I learned more about the paid features from this video. Awesome!
Working from home and that means no printer. This is something I need!
Hooray! This looks almost as awesome as you are! Downloading today, and will probably have the paid version before bedtime...
oh wow! thank you for this Ms. Staci! so excited to try this app 😊
Thanks for this. I had just deleted it cause I couldn’t figure out how to work it properly. Now I re installed it and will try again. It does look a lot better then the other app I was using.
Just purchased and it installed seamlessly. Thanks for video i bought the paid version. I see more videos i will work my way through them.
I've been using KnitCompanion for a while but never figured out the "you are here" thing, thank you.
I was at VKL 2020NY at their booth- i have had this app for a while but didnt realize i could up date. I actually learned a lot from you. Thanks
The next KnitCompanion video is coming out in just a couple of weeks, with more to come!
The horizontal sliding bar is the game changer.
Kudos!
This is phenomenal!! Thank you for showing this to us! What a game changer!
Stacy, thanks for sharing this! I look forward to trying it.
I just added your cabled fingerless mitts to my KC projects the other day! 😺 I’ve been using the software for a few years and it is well worth the money for the upgraded features! I will try the video links with this project I haven’t been able to figure out the feature with all your other patterns in my project list. Great tutorial!
I love this app and have been using it for a while. Thanks for doing the walkthrough.
So glad i found this! I had downloaded KC but had no clue as to how to use them!
I'm putting this on my tablet. Thank you Miss Stacie
Thank you! I’m about to start an intricate cable sweater and was looking for a way to keep track of the rows. I did not know about this software and now I have it, I’m thrilled.
I use KnitCompanion every day and love it. You did teach me how to use the video link and would like to Thank you so much.
Your tutorials were being praised on the Grocery Girls this week!
Thanks so much for sharing this! I have been hunting for a good knitting software . I'm even more excited because I can use it with beading graphs as well.
Thank you SO MUCH! I hope you will do more tutorials with KC!
