I got the 1070 Max Q GS65 last year. I would have to buy the 2080 model to see a significant uptick in performance and it costs a full $1,000 more than I paid last year for the 1070mq. Looks like I'll be skipping a generation.

I think people should wait for the next generation bc the manufacturer are selling higher price bc of the hype. 1 or 2 years later the price will be reasonable with the 9th gen intel cpu. Btw how is the thermal of your device? And the build quality?

I get about six hours of watching video, browsing, and office stuff. 3D gaming on battery is possible but only for maybe 1.5 hours and at reduced framerates. Fan noise is there when you're gaming but not bad at all and heat when gaming is hot on bottom but top stays cool. I love this laptop. It's been my baby for about a year now and still like new.

Lisa -- I know everyone seems to know about a product call Goo-gone for removing the glue under those annoying stickers. I just bought myself a nicely priced Asus Vivobook S15 and getting the glue off was extra tricky because the laptop palm rests are textured -- allowing glue hiding places. I did a Google search and found out if you soak the glue in some WD-40 for maybe 20 minutes -- the glue comes right off. I mean with a Kleenex! If you haven't had the pleasure give it a try and consider sharing the info. It's kind of silly to buy a big bottle of something you'll almost never use.

Not that my opinion matters but I'll tell you the same thing my dad told me, which turned out to be true even in two tech degrees i earned.
The likelihood of being on your cpu all day at lectures, labs, and what not, are slim. Writing notes, and then later typing them into a word doc will help you retain that info farm more than staring at a screen during a lecture.
Lots of Notes, think about digital paper type of thing. it works!

    Hi,
Thank you for your help about the experience with this laptop :) really helfull
    One question:
Is secure to use liquid metal paste on processor and gpu? Because I Heard that it can't touch aluminion surfaces becuase it Will destroy it, and when the paste is hot it turns more liquid so can go through the components that are conductors of electricity can damage the system. Maybe make sense in a pc station in house but a laptop that you move it it is sabe to use metal liquid paste?

Would not recommend going for MSI.
Motherboard on my GS 63 vr broke after 1 year and 3 months, got it replaced, broke again after 8 months.
Msi tried to cheat on me the second time saying the motherboard died because of physical damage, and tried to charge me for $1400 for the replacement when the laptop was only $1800 what a load of bull crap.
After I explained that I took good care of my laptop, always carried it in padded case, never dropped it, mostly use it at home. They finally agree to replaced it for free under the warranty like they should, then they proceed to
tell me that my wifi antenna is broken. Again another lie, my wifi was working perfectly fine, they probably break it or just want me to pay $100 for the replacement.
Made the mistake buying a MSI, never again.

The reason they put the motherboard "upside down" probably is to avoid an unwanted issue happenning with (over)heating, which is components weldings loss, bc pewter melts enough to let the gravity pull components down, & that can also make connexions - reliable, locally overheating (like electric cables...).
I read that concerning my laptop overheating, but it seems to be a rare or extreme issue, + likely to happen when, in 1st place, the laptop is not cooled properly. So in a way, they should never have proper reasons to do so... 🤔

    Hey Lisa,
    Really loving your videos.
A quick question...for some weird reason the MSI GS65 2080mq is the same price as the GS75mq here where I'm from (Ph). Is there a big difference between the two?
I like the smaller, more "compact" 15" one but if the 17" with one more m.2 ssd slot also means better thermals coz...bigger, should I get the GS75 instead?
Thank you for your frank and clear reviews.

Just for learning reasons, why I ask this. Is the Max-Q that much worse? I don't fully understand how different they are. So would the non Max-Q RTX 2060 run better/more frames? Why is that a thing when the Max-Q rtx 2070/2080 are more money?

    • @jimjohnson6944
      @jimjohnson6944 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@xXiONic64Xx Hey sorry I didn't see this. So the RTX 2060 will run worse with lower frames, but not by much. In general, the $ increase to performance ratio for an RTX 2080 max Q vs a full RTX 2060 just isn't worth it, unless you are getting a really good deal.

    Hey Lisa,
Question as you have been reviewing all the different MSI models I have found these videos to be very useful.
I ended up getting the MSI GE75 RAIDER RTX 2070 based on your review as being the nice balance between GT and GS in size.
I did my 3DMark test and ended up getting about a score of 6500 for Time Spy. Your one and many others i seen on the 3DMark site are closer to the 7500 mark for the score. Unfortunately the site does not tell you if anyone has modified their system in anyway,
Is there something you did to achieve that score? or were you running stock standard hardware for those test? Any advice would be appreciated.
PS - How do you get FPS to show up in game in top left corner lol (it has been 8 years since I games on a pc, consoles took over my life haha)

Throw a second matching RAM stick in, that dual channel RAM config makes a big difference. I have a recent video on that topic. I typically use the FPS counter option in Steam and Origin. GeForce Experience has one too (but it won't show up on video captures- which you don't care about but I have to care about).
