Mexican beauty Camilla hopes to rise above her station by marrying a wealthy American. That is complicated by meeting Arturo Bandini, a first-generation Italian hoping to land a writing career and a blue-eyed blonde on his arm.
Update - I've now watched this movie like so many times because I can't stop replaying it. It's beautiful and if you are into poetry or writing or nostalgia or scenery, if you like old music and love stories, if you wish you had a time machine or that people would think more about what they say, if you're a bookworm or if you just love emotion and romance -- this is a really great movie. I showed it to both of my sisters and one didn't get it at all and the other absolutely adored it. Watch it before you judge. It might not be everyone in the world's cup of tea but some people just don't like tea. 10/10 from me.

This Fante is too dandy. The real Fante in the book was, literally, starving. Movies and books have different needs. I know that. But there are some things that you cannot change when making a movie about a book. And it looks that they just decaffeinated the great book that is "Ask The Dust".

Don't be confused. The action is real. There is no joking out of a fate. Arturo knew the odds and what happens when he does not hit a mark. It is literally death for a writer!

Towne is a notoriously slow writer. I wonder how many years it took to push out this turd. He clearly doesn't understand the source material.
He is not Colin Farrell! He is Bandini! He is Arturo Bandini!
