      Look at Doug's carvideos as entertainment instead of reviews and it all starts to make sense.
      For example: Doug actively hunts for what he calls quirks and then applies his own (American) logic to them:
      - "Tuned by STI" on a Subaru is a silly badge, but "High Output" on a Jeep Cherokee 4.0 that barely makes 190 HP makes perfect sense to Doug.
      - If a car doesn't have 4 or more cupholders, Doug thinks it's lacking in luxury.
      His DougScore is absurd, because he rates every vehicle on the same scale instead of deviding them into categories, as serious car reviewers would do. So in Doug's world a sporty sedan can get a 3 for acceleration even if it's the fastest in it's class, because Doug directly compares it's acceleration to that of Lamborghini's, Ferrari's etc. But again, look at it as entertainment.
      Doug is/acts the "typical" American: foreign cars often make no sense to him because he completely ignores that for the European and Asian markets cars are way more often built for special purposes than in the US. He "reviewed" a Mercedes people carrier for instance and complained how spartan and underpowered that car was compared to other people carriers. Doug can't/won't grasp that Mercedes builds those specific cars for a special purpose: to be used as an airport taxi for families or groups. They're workhorses and therefore it doesn't make sense to equip them with powerful engines and luxury.

      @Jkev24 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I don't think he factors in age of the car on purpose. Every modern car is an option someone can choose over this, so it doesn't make sense to give this a handicap when your scale includes modern cars.

      @Totano84 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@FIK3TriKs I had a look at his website and I now truly understand the DougScore. Still don't fully agree with it but it makes a lot more sense once you realise that, in Doug's words, "the DougScore is designed to be geared towards exciting cars. For instance: if a car does 0-to-60 in over 7 seconds, it gets a “1” for acceleration."

    • @apostolis.diamantopoulos
      @apostolis.diamantopoulos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    • @Totano84
      @Totano84 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@apostolis.diamantopoulos Agreed. But I still can't wrap my head around the acceleration score being "absolute" rather than "relative". I think people are more interested in the performance/price ratio and this car doing 0-60 in 4.7s should make for a higher scored than, let's say, a brand new $50K+ Porsche Cayman which has a similar acceleration figure.

Got a new 2020 back in Dec. Had 7 miles on it. And yes, I hated the hill start assist until I got used to it. I stalled it on the first hill, about 300 yards from the dealership. 13:08 In my country both the authorised dealers & grey/parallel importers sometimes sell different versions of the same vehicle model e.g. Toyota Estima (grey/parallel/Japanese domestic market version) vs Previa (authorised dealer/non-Japan version), Camry Regular vs Camry Prestige (which also came out a year later than the Regular), Corolla Axio vs Corolla Altis, Toyota Harrier vs Lexus RX, Honda Vezel vs H-RV, Grace vs City, Fit vs Jazz. 1 way to tell them apart is that the authorised dealer's version's speedometer goes up to 220/240kph while the grey version uses speedometers that go up to 180kph only (probably because they were originally intended to be sold in Japan, where vehicles are legally required to be electronically limited to that speed anyway). For Toyotas also, the grey version often use non-Toyota badging on the front grille.
