I like the idea of just giving rock types an accuracy boost in the sandstorm to help cover for their widely inaccurate STAB moves without buffing specific rock type attacks
Tyranitar stocks undoubtedly rise to the moon here: In singles, Stone Edge is amazing STAB AND has high crit chance; in VGC, rock slide will not miss AND has high flinch chance
We've known for ages that rock/ground is trash... defensively. Offensively, it's an incredible combination. What if we actually made a fast offensive rock/ground type?
I can't remember the last time I deliberately used a rock type for its qualities. It's a great attacking type but I always forget about it defensively until I use one of those mons that happen to be rock-ground instead of pure ground where I randomly die 3x faster.
My ideas •Lower Stealth Rocks distribution like toxic spikes for poison •Increase accuracy in sand by 30 percent •Immune to stealth rock or half damage to stealth rock •Rock abilities like purifying salt that give resist to other types
I like the idea of a +1 accuracy boost to rock moves under sandstorm, but make Rock Slide’s flinch chance 10% (the same as Heat Wave’s burn). Stone Edge would become VERY viable on Tyranitar to get through intimidate.
I believe rock moves should have perfect accuracy when used by a rock type but even with this change id still consider it the worst type. Especially meteor beam a 2 turn move that can miss is ridiculous.
I feel like a big reason why rock doesn’t feel as bad as I’ve or bug is because in both singles and doubles, one move makes you really not want to be weak to rock. Singles stealth rock and doubles rock slide.
thank you i thought i was the only one who thought rock is far worse done than bug and ice esspecially in recent gens. having rock typing on a pokemon is nothing but a drawback. the biggest problem to it in my opinion is it fails at doing exactly what its presented as, the tanky defense type when its absolutely horrible defensively so many weakness's to common offensive types.
i wonder if Regice could make somewhat of a come back when the ice type finally does get more resistances, of course as long as power creep doesn't remain consistent
@@sinnohperson8813 true. Oh u know what could be fun. Make ice resist water as well but lower scalds burn chance to 10 and make it do super effective damage against ice. That way scald and freeze dry are counterparts
@@FlygonkingVGCTechnically Fighting being strong against ice was more of a martial arts thing than it is realistic, with shows/movies depicting fighters breaking ice or splitting glaciers. However the original fairy type before it was changed mid-development of XY actually buffed the Ice type by giving ice a resistance and was weak to fire. This was changed partway in development which sucks because Ice types could’ve gone crazy with the resistance, allowing it to eat hits from Xerneas and Flutter Mane, only issue would be making Kyurem and Baxcalibur insanely busted.
Mega Diancie would be a way stronger pokémon if it was SteelFairy instead of RockFairy. Hopefully Aerodactyl and Archeops get buffed with the new Sonic/Sonar/Sound/Vibe type
for many types, adding a type can shore up defensive weaknesses. like add steel to flying, and you remove two flying weaknesses, and add more resistances but what type does rock want?! or what type is ok with being saddled with rock? adding steel does ameliorate two weaknesses, but you get two 4x's in exchange! water is better than most, helping with steel and water, but you get a 4x to grass grass gives you zero 4x weaknesses, makes you neutral to water and grass, but you end up with only two resistances, and still have 4 weaknesses dragon does add a resistance and makes some weaknesses neutral, but you still end up with one more weakness than you started with! flying is probably the best, but this is more an example of flying helping rock, than rock helping flying, as flying removes three weaknesses from rock, and rock removes zero weaknesses from flying, and the results still has 5 weaknesses. where are the synergies? there's just too much weakness overlap with other types.
This is where offenses come into play because offensively rock is probably one of the best types to have stab for. For reference, while Rock/Grass doesn’t have a lot of resistances, it makes up for it by having tons of coverage. It hits every type in the game for neutral damage except for Steel. For exact numbers as of the current dex, it hits 70 Pokémon for not very effective, 609 for Neutral, and 536 for super effective. A majority of resists are steel types and every Pokémon that does resist the two are weak to fighting or ground, two types that are very easy to slap onto a team. If you just double down onto the offensive stats, rock type is arguably the most sought after type offensively next to fire, ground, fighting, fairy, and electric.
Rock types getting increased accuracy in sandstorm would be nice but if new widely available rock types moves were to be added then here are some ideas -Rock type close combat -Rock type body press -Special attack that’s either 100 or 110 power, include drawback like stat debuff or recoil (the idea is for a more spammable Meteor Beam at a cost) -A move that only works if you have Stealth Rocks on the opponent’s side of the field -Maybe some status move that’s thematic to Healing Crystals
My main problem giving buffs to sandstorm is that you would have to give something to snow to keep the symmetry(gamefreak will at least). Plus giving rock moves a damage boost in sandstorm kinda ruins the identity of sandstorm and just makes it a clone of rain, sun, and terrains. The best and most realistic solution is probably just to add more moves and abilities that benefit from sandstorm. Abilities that in sand would do things like remove a mons weaknesses, raise accuracy, raise crit rates, or grant priority to all moves. Giving mons these strong abilities gives people an actual reason to run sand, and more importantly, the rock types that have the abilities. And then add moves like the ones suggested in the video. To be fair I do think rock is meant to be an inaccurate type, but adding a rock type blizzard can’t hurt. Plus more support moves. Also I wanted to say dragon is definitely not a top tier type its very middling. Grass is essentially the same defensively and arguably better offensively. Anyways enjoyed the video very much.
If you're going to buff rock types moves during sandstorm (which i'm not against) you should probably remove Rock Slides flinch chance. At the very least while sandstorm is up. Otherwise that would get very obnoxious real quick.
I think I got some cool ideas for new moves the rocks could use. Cliff-Side Slam: 90 BP 100 ACC Phys. CAT The user grabs the target and rushes them into a stone wall, lowering the defenses of the target. Limit the distribution to big bulky and heavy rock types like Ttar, Aggron, and some of the fossils as I feel they fit the concept of a strong guy charging at you and going through multiple wall layers/rooms like they do in cartoons. The defense drop is there so that in the case a Steel type switches in they’re not safe entirely and they have to respect the defense drop. Stalagmite Shield: - BP - ACC Status CAT The user sets up a row of stalagmites on the user’s side of the field. If a direct contact move is used while the stalagmites are active, the target will receive damage. This effect lasts 5 turns. I always found the idea of stealth rocks interesting and I always wondered why there isn’t a defensive variant of it where you can apply Rocky helmet on your side of the field. While this sounds broken on paper, in practice what it’ll do is encourage a team to pair it with Intimidate or Reflect/Veil, which many teams are doing already if they’re running rock types. This works great in a game with Tera as a mechanic and with the current roster of physical attackers, having another way to punish them is very welcome. I’ll spread out the distribution so that most rock types could learn it and that it’s given to all the fast ones. Crystal Bind: 90 BP 95 ACC Special CAT The user encases the target in large crystals, dealing damage to the target. This move also lowers the opponent’s speed. The idea for this move was to make it an alternative to Power Gem, where you trade reliability for a riskier but significantly more rewarding option. Giving Rock types their own methods of speed control that also has the benefits of high damage will make them standout (this isn’t a spread move, I’m not that insane). While there aren’t a lot of special Rock Types, I think giving these to Nihilego, Glimmora, Probopass, Minior, Corsola, and Magcargo fit really well. TLDR; Rock Type Thunderous Kick, Rocky Helmet as a field effect (Safeguard, Mist, etc), Special Rock version of drum beating that is 90 BP and 95 ACC.
One idea I had for a type rom hack that im doing was to make Sandstorm give Sturdy to all Rock-types. Thus whenever Sandstorm's up you get to play more aggressively knowing you can tank whatever one hit they throw at you. This would benefit greatly pokemon such as Lycanroc that can replace their Focus Sash with a Clear Amulet or boosting item to help deal more damage. Another change is that Rock now resists Ground. This wouldn't make Rock a defensive behemoth but switching the number of resistances and weaknesses at least gives them a bit more flexibility in coming in, and lets be honest Ground could use some more resists, the type is already strong as it is
You know a sandstorm is kinda just ground in the air, which steel is weak to. Maybe they should make steel take sandstorm damage. I think an aurora veil-like rock move is a good idea. Maybe it can make super effective moves do normal damage or something. It could be flavored in a way that the user spawns rocks in on the field that tanks damage
Nerfing steel would only make Sandstorm worse. Its biggest saving grace is you can have 3 types immune to your own chip. If you remove that suddenly a lot of options close off for sandstorm teams, so it will be less popular. There’s a reason hail was removed.
When you think about it, it’s actually horrifying how many type combinations with the rock type result in x4 weaknesses. Add rock to Ground, Fire, Steel, Ice and you have two quad super effective weaknesses, but there’s also quad weaknesses for water, poison, dark, electric and fairy. What’s even worse is that some of these type combos are very popular choices to be given to Pokémon
I think making rock resist dark and ghost could be a good idea, these two types get better and better each generation due to being able to hit most types in the chart neutral,so that would help rock type poor defensive type when pairing with another type like psy/rock or ghost/rock mons And i think they should increase the distribution of Accelerock-lycanrock signature move to more rock type mons
Maybe making Sandstorm increase moves accuracy ,and giving all Rock pokemon resistance to recoil, maybe less is not all ,so that Rock Head has still reason to resist. Rock pokemon have this "rough, brutish, simple" identity compared to Steel more"polished, keen, detailed" Having more "reckless" type moves would work best, and a gameplay helping them. Maybe even a "counter" playstyle, like automatic Rock Helmet or Rough Skin.
Rock and ice types both have a different problem; they may be the most common coverage for other types. Water types basically all learn ice moves, and ground types, fighting types and a lot of steel types learn rock type moves, so you don't need the bad defensive Pokemon to use the amazing offenses.
The problem with rock is similar to ice in past generations, bad defensive good ofensive type, but most mons of the type are defensive mons. And things like low accuracy moves makes Rock even worse than ice in ofensive mons.
Game Freak needs to make more accurate special and physical rock type moves and make some of them faster. Albeit Game Freak need to bring back the frostbite effect.

I know it's a video about rock types but I just wanted to share an idea to why not make grass types immune to fairy types since fairies are depicted to be protectors of nature so why would they damage the thing they protect
Please no automatic stealth rocks. We don't need quad weak rock types losing all their health in doubles. It was already a huge issue without heavy duty boots in singles
Honestly just changes Rock type weaknesses and resistances. It's a type about physical defense then the type shouldn't have two weaknesses that are special related. Keep the Sp.Def low on Rock-types so it becomes about hitting thru it's high defense stat for effective damage or hitting them on their low Sp.Def stat for netural damage. Get rid of the Grass type and Water type Weaknesses. Water one doesn't make much sense, Our houses are made of rocks and stone but they don't dissolve in the rain, It make sense for Ground type to be weak to water, not Rock type. Lastly, Make Rock resist Water and Ice, This makes sense and fixes alot of Rock types that are Dual typed.
I dont want rocks to be all out offensive since it goes against the original design for the type. A small adjustment to the type chart is hinestlt enough. Remove a weakness and they should be fine.
Ice type needs the defense boost AND the damage to its weather just like rock type gets- I mean come on. If they are supposed to be twin weathers, then give them the same types of effects!
Been saying for while that Rock is one of the worst types in the game. Lack of accurate moves makes it difficult to use offensively and it's mediocre defensively. Outclassed by Ground/Steel in fulfilling similar roles. Lastly, in singles, Stealth Rocks very heavily reduce the need for Rock moves as coverage. You are better off just running Knock Off to remove Boots rather than running Rock coverage.
bug, ice, rock and psychic are the worse types right now, sure psychic seems broken offensively, but its only strong agaisnt 2 types, resisted by 2 and imune by 1, while having 3 weaknesses and resists 2

9:14 this man managed to make a banger non-intrusive reminder to subscribe so effective i clicked that shit only to throw it away by using an annoying, preachy statistic based one a few minutes later
I have great idea make rock type resist fairy type moves
Psychic is also bottom-tier imo, next to no resistances.
I have wondered recently--- does anyone have Rock as their favorite-type?
Same issue of psychic vs fairy
make sandstorm be like delta stream for rock types but only 25% reduction like filter
There are valid rock type exept lycanroc?
How can you fall when you're already Rock bottom?
great content!
In Ray we trust
Ice is fragile that's the reason
He’s a 3 time world champion??
Please make a vídeo about bug Pokémon, game freak hate them so much
Bug was the worst ice and rock are bottom 2 now. Haill was better for ice types being a glass cannon type wow more bulk on my pokemon that takes double damage from everything. Hail was bad but not because of concept
Hey!!! 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽
