Iono ....FANDAM imo... Is up there with enter the 36.. OB4CL...ILLMATIC.. ETC. There's maybe 2 songs (beats) that at times I'll skip.. but for the most part I can play it all the way thru ... with every beat HITTING AS FAR as the kinda production I fw. Tcv is the same but there were a handful of beats. That I don't always vibe with
His best work is I’ll Sleep When, C4C, and Cold Vein by far. Not to say I don’t love Lif’s first record or El’s FanDam or RTJ, just those 3 are absolutely watermarks in my life and left indelible imprints. Still do when I revisit.
There is absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing that will ever top this record outside of Funcrusher Plus and Sanity Annex as far as indie records for me. It was so iconic, and I get kinda of teary eyed when I listen to it now because it’s such a beautiful masterpiece of music that stands the test of time. A piece of work we will probably never get again. Peace to EL-P and Cann Ox for crafting such greatness.
Sanity Annex is underrated even in the underground. I think it's a shame Bigg Jus doesn't get a fraction of the love EL-P gets though. The Plantation Rhymes album is one of my top five favorite hip hop albums of all time.It dropped the very same year Cold Vein did and was every bit as visionary and ultra-new york. But yeah.Cold Vein should've received 5 mics from the Source. That's how great that album was as a piece of music.
@@kevinscott59 I agree 💯 about Jus. He is a very good homie of mine, he is very humble person he gets overlooked all the time. People have slept on him so much, but he has put nothing but dope quality records out since the coflow disbandment.
@@JEStheUniversual Yeah I used to see Jus around Atl in the Subverse days.(That label had a far more compelling run than Def Jux had in my opinion.) Met him at the Micranots album release show, circa 2000. Don't get it twisted though - EL-P is one of my favorite artists of all-time. He deserves all his success.
The Def Jux shit was exactly what I needed at the right time. Cold vein is a special album but so was Funcrusher. These were important times in my human development. That chaotic busy sound filled the gaps and free time in my mind which pushed me to be where I’m at in life now.
Rugged like Rwanda, don't wind up far or get chopped up Quick rush to the spot like baby urine and get mopped up Tag that spray your Hall with rap aerosol Organized graffiti lectures on can control
This album is so dope I still regularly listen to this along with some of the other Def Jux releases from this time like Fantastic Damage and I STILL am hella impressed when I listen to these albums and even sometimes notice things or bars I never noticed before. To me thats a sign of great music listening for 20 years and still am not bored of it lol

"scream phoenix!!". El-p, thanks for being a leader who didn't mind getting your hands dirty. Digging in crates is a different level. Def Jux output as a label marked a significant time in my life. I never really fit in, music was my escape before the "paincave" called drugs. Music made since, people didn't... but people make music (B.F.A.I.). Distant relativity is one of the best things in life. Peace.
Cold vein and fantastic damage are my 2 favourite albums. I listen to them my highest and lowest points in life to this day along with every other day 😂 bloody classics
i used to spin "metal gear" with drum and bass in 2004 and it felt like it was from the future, and i realize now that metal gear on its own still sounds like it's from the future
I spent years trying to find this album on wax. Finally found it and bought it off a guy at a brewery for $50. Three years later I found another copy in a batch of Hip hop I bought for $4 a record. Now I got doubles.
Mike's questions are on top. I love to hear this, really. It was magic indeed ! As De La once said, 3 is the magic number. That being said i think the scratches of Dj Cip One really add to the mix. It's like the cherry on top u know
This album is not only the soundtrack of NY post 9/11. But is the magnum opus of the indie era
Totally agree
Yup agree
100%
In my opinion Cold Vein was El-P's high water mark as a producer.
That album is sheer perfection.
I've probably commented this before but, Cold Vein is his sampling masterpiece. FanDam was less about sampling and more synth based.

The dynamic duo of C4C and R.A.P. Music were El-P's best work IMO. Cannibal Ox Cold Vein was INSANELY great for its time.
I'd certainly agree with that

This album should of went double platinum!
One of the greatest albums of all time no question.
In any genre. A masterpiece.
Those Cold Vein beats are still the best! We were lucky to get this shit when we did.

Madvillany is my favorite indie project but el-p has at least 3 projects in the top 10. Legend for sure!
@@blogfirstlast Madvillany is up there for me as well, along with Operation Doomsday

God I miss 95-2005 indie Hiphop **so much** 😢
Best album in the history of hiphop
El producto is like a fine wine! One of the elite hip hop practitioners! With the beats, the rhymes, don’t know if he DJ! Lol

Probably my favourite hip-hop album ever.
I don't know if I'm coming from left field but to me, "The Cold Vein" was like "Dah Shinin'" of the 2000's.
Open eagle and El producto. Let's gooo
Im so glad I bought this on vinyl as it came out. One of my hidden treasures!
Still one of the best albums. Even the online version with the ihophop tag lol
Known Eagle for years, great interview, beyond classic
When Vordul linked with Masta Killa I was like yes, real recognize real.

I had no idea some of their stuff was off the top. that makes that album sooo much more impressive. wow.
