Such gorgeous makes and your fabric choices are just beautiful! You did very well to resist that yarn! You have better will power than I would have 😂😂 Hope your son is miles better now
Thanks so much Rachael! Haha yes I came very close to buying yarn last week - it was so hard to resist when I was squishing it in my hands! Luckily I remembered how slow I was at knitting and I already have yarn and projects planned for the next few months! 😅
I’d go down the sharpie route too, but if that doesn’t work could you make an extra ‘placket’ that goes over the button hole placket so that it looks like those concealed button plackets you get? All the fabrics you choose are fantastic, really quirky x
That's such a great idea, Kerry, I know exactly what you mean! I am hoping the pen will satisfy me, but that is a really good option to look into as well, if it drives me crazy! Thank you, I am enjoying getting into all my bright and fun fabrics now that spring is here!
Oh that is great to hear, thank you for letting me know Naomi! Yes, I made bathers and a rashie in one of their fabrics. I love them! They've been worn so many times and the fabric has held up really well. I'm glad you've enjoyed their fabrics too. I should try them again!
i would love the tea on NH. i've seen some discussion of what a mess her business has been but it would be interesting to hear from someone who actually ordered.
Yes it's been a ridiculous year of empty promises! I'll see if I get time to gather my thoughts about it all and put something together because I definitely think it's worth people knowing about it!
Love both dresses and am keeping 🤞 that the markers do the trick. I see that pencil skirts are making a comeback. I think the Seneca shirt would be perfect over a jersey or Ponte, yoga waistband style pencil skirt. Super fast, easy make and super easy to wear dressed up or down year round.
Great idea Nancy! I used to have a stretchy black skirt that I wore a LOT to work, probably about 10 years ago. I didn't keep it as it stretched out a lot after wearing it over a pregnant belly, but I should make another one.
@@judybuckmaster2586 thank you so much Judy! I did actually use fraycheck but I think I just didn’t neaten up my threads well enough. 😢 I’ll definitely learn for next time!
What a productive sewing week and I admire your patience with regard your nerida hansen fabric Sarah. You must really want those fabrics. What an awful shame about your lyra, I hope the touch up works because it's a beautiful make. I love your ikat shirt and I think it would look lovely with a pinafore too. Great sweater and blocking will probably remedy the fit. I hope your Son is on the mend now too!
Thank you Annette! Part of my patience comes from wanting the beautiful fabric, and the other part is actually not wanting to give her the easy way out! (Plus I've heard that other people have requested refunds and then waited AGES for them if they got them at all.) I hope that blocking will help with the fit of my knitting - it is WAY too much work to not get to wear and enjoy it! ☺️
Lovely to see you Sarah, having a sewing staycation. 😊 Could you wear the Seneca shirt over a dress perhaps? Probably a more fitted knit dress I would think. ❤❤
@@jenismith466 thanks Jeni! Yes I was actually thinking I should try it with my orchard dress! It’s not fitted, but could work… I’ll try and test that out and include pics in my September makes video. 😊
Your makes are beautiful, Spotlight sell fabric text as in the craft section where they have the puffy paint and fabric paint, I got a pit of 12 so many colours
I bought a set of fabric dye markers off Amazon. They worked great for my pulled threads. I could have bought the single colour, but decided that since I have several colours of viscose that will likely run on me too, and the single marker costs almost 2/3 as much as the set of 24 (same compzny), the pack was a much better value. The shirt I rescued must have had over 100 runs because I had to unpick several mistakes, and you would never know it. I was only going to fix the background colour, but since I had the pack, I could fix everything.
Omg. I am so happy you got your fabric. I am still waiting for mine ordered in January. They refunded one of mine and I have requested a full refund because I don't order one piece when I pay postage. In my head that puts the price up per piece. My request so far has been ignored. So it might arrive or it might not. I'm out of pocket $75. Not Happy. I love your lyra but 😱. I would definitely try a posca pen or something too. It wouldn't stop me wearing it regardless. Maybe you could emborider something on it? I love all your makes. I'm stuck in a dress making stage, with Frocktails coming up. Can't wait to make more every day clothes. Ohhhh I love seeing pretty shops. Love the Witmore. I'm too scared to make it. One day hopefully I'll be brave enough to try it. Have a great week ❤
Hi Katrina, oh no, you're still waiting too? What fabric did you order? SO annoying. I'd keep bugging her. I actually got a store-credit for my order, which I promptly spent in her weekend sale. But I am still expecting my November order at some point... absolutely hopeless. Ooooh I'm excited to find out what you've made for Frocktails! I have an idea in mind for my dress, but it's not 100% worked out yet. The Whitmoor scares me a little bit too, but mainly because it seems like you're simultaneously knitting on a circular needle AND a DPN... which seems a bit weird and tricky to manage to me, but hopefully once I start it will make sense. I'm excited to finish my jumper so that I can start that one! Hope you and your kids have a lovely first week of school hols!
@@SoSarahSewed from memory I think my fabric is pascale flocks or something like that. It's a purple floral lawn. I did have another but she refunded it. So annoying. I keep changing my mind on my Frocktails dress. I'm trialling one now. I keep thinking about doing a skirt and Top. I'm not sure how to go about it without a pattern. I have fabric in mind. Maybe I should stick with that.
Beautiful makes!! Am sure the sharpie trick will work....its definitely beem a rescue for me in the past. Bless you....your dress looks wonderful ! Could your Seneca work over a dress too? Well done for leaving the yarn in the shop 🎉🎉
Thank you Debs! Yes I found a couple of pens that seem to be a fairly good match, and I think you'd only know if it were pointed out to you... hopefully that will do the trick, and I can always just re-touch it as necessary. I think I'm going to try the Seneca over my Orchard dress - I think that would work well! I'll try it out and report back in my September makes video. 😊
I am crushed about your Lyra dress. I hope the Sharpies will match and you can save it. It looks so good in the photos! I don't know how you managed to make me laugh in today's episode, when it is so sad, but I got quite a giggle when you mentioned you have been blocked on Instagram over the continued queries about your fabric. It seems like there has been a lot of different messaging from that company about the business and changes in the works. I hope it all works out! The Instant Crush sweater sounds like real life - it's an instant crush and now you're over it. LOL. I'm sure it will grow when you block it.
Thank you - yes I was so upset when I noticed it - it seems like such a tiny problem, but is soooo obvious! Lol, I know, I have to laugh about the whole Nerida situation because if I'm not laughing about it, I'm raging about it! Haha, you're so right about the instant crush - hopefully I'll fall in love again once it's done! 😂
Could you do a fancy stitch in the thread that you used for the button holes down the button placket to cover the white line, either using some linear machine stitch or a bit of hand embroidery?
I considered that actually! I worry it would draw more attention to it though... hopefully the pen trick will disguise it well enough... if not I'll have a re-think. ☺️
@@SoSarahSewed Of course, there is the ultimate solution- call it "a design feature". I have a few of those on items I have made. Thanks for your vlog and I look forward to more of them.
I was also thinking you could possibly wear the Seneca shirt with a dress. Maybe open over a slip dress? So restrained of you to not buy any more yarn! I wonder what it feels like to be so responsible! 😅 I could feel your pain with the Lyra button placket mishap. My last major button hole disaster was on an Anthea blouse where sliced right up the placket with my seam ripper when I cut open one of the button holes. I had cleverly put a pin across the top of the button hole to stop exactly that from happening, but somehow the seam ripper slid right between the pin and the fabric and sliced it right open anyway. I was pretty devastated! I saw your pen fix on instagram and I think it looks great. Nobody will ever know.💙
Yes I think the Seneca would work like that too! I'm going to try and get some pictures wearing it over the Orchard Dress for my September makes video. Oh no, isn't it so sad when one tiny mistake has such a big consequence for your make? I couldn't believe it when I saw this, but yes! I think the pen might have done the trick well enough, phew!
Instead of using a Sharpie, as you have a lovely straight line, why not consider using a machine embroidery stitch, with thread to match the fabric, to make it a feature? All your makes are inspirationally beautiful so I will get out my TATB Nell and Lyra patterns and start sewing. ❤
Thank you so much, and I'm so happy I've inspired you with the Nell and Lyra dresses! I think I'll first try and go with the inconspicuous option (as much as I can!) but if it doesn't work out I'll consider making the line a feature instead! 😊
Oh, no! How disheartening regarding your Lyra dress. That fabric is just so beautiful, and it looks wonderful made in the Lyra. Hopefully you can fix it. I feel for you. And.....you are not alone Sarah, I also am having issues with a Nerida Hansen order. Mine was made in January this year. I, like you, ordered 2 lengths of fabric and just received half that order last week.....I have been buying fabric from her for a number years and never had this problem. Not sure what is going on there right now??? I say no more 🤨 Anyway, hope you enjoy your sewing time during the holidays. Let us know how you go with your Lyra fix up. Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼
Oh no, I think there are many, many of us waiting for orders from months and months ago. I saw a comment saying their order was from September 2023! 😱 It's a real shame as I used to buy confidently from her regularly and was so happy with the beautiful fabrics. We'll see what happens there... Thank you for your encouragement - I think the pen on the Lyra dress came up well! I'll finish the waist seam and finish the hem today, hopefully and will share the finished item soon!
I’m also waiting on some NH fabric - I’ve been told twice it was on the way only to then get an email saying there were new delays. I feel so annoyed because while I’m still waiting for that order I’m still getting tons of emails from them trying to sell me more fabric! Unfortunately it is reading like a secret cashflow issue (ie making new sales to cover older sales) so I’m not holding my breath. Hopefully I’m wrong - and I’m still sending follow up emails. I would never buy from them again.
Absolutely Megan. I actually did some looking through my inbox to look at all the ridiculous updates I've had since placing my order last year - there were almost ONE HUNDRED - mostly selling her latest idea, but sometimes with an "update" that turned out to be absolute rubbish. Keep on her, and hopefully you'll get your fabric one day. She's still promising it's still coming...🤞🏼
If the sharpie doesn't work, why don't you do a row of sewing down the middle of your placket, over the white line and another one down the fold of the placket. It may make it look like it's a feature of the dress.
Such a shame about your placket Sarah. The sharpie idea might not work because the line runs through various colours that would be difficult to match. You might try using various matching embroidery thread and hand sew some vertical coloured or just navy rows of stitching along the placket for a design feature. Good luck it's a gorgeous dress.❤
Yes it's a tricky one! I found two coloured pens that are a fairly good match so I'm hoping that will satisfy me for now, but if not I'll have another think about using thread instead! x
I also challenged Nerida online and when I attended her sewing day she tried to humiliate me in front of the group. I think she made herself look bad for being unkind. I was tempted by her fabrics but her disorganised approach, her attitude and lack of delivery put me off.
