Happy Friday everyone! There's no shortage of EV's on the market nowadays and while sales of electric vehicles appears to be softening, those of you on the fence can apparently find plenty of new Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6's on dealer lots. Compared to Hybrid vehicles which are few and far between at dealers, would a deal on a fully electric vehicle (and on a good one like this car) be enough to sway you into an electric car?
Very interested in this car. Open to other EVs. But the lack of infrastructure still concerns me. One EA station in the Twin Cities. PHEV becomes more appealing.
looks better to me than the model 3, but I cant wait for you to review the new Sonata N!! this would be my choice, still sticking with ICE or Hybrid cars for now

I saw one of these drive by my house last week and I have to say it looks much better in person than any pictures I had seen of it. Hyundai calls that Abyss Black.

not sure if its just me, Hyundai/Kia has really good Black color paints that looks really good on their cars. EV6 and Ioniq5 black paints looks very nice especially when clean and shiny. Saw & sat in one like this, but with black interior at Hyundai of CFL in Clermont FL. Very nice vehicle. Text drove an Ioniq5. Liked it very much as well. Instead, purchased a 2024 Hyundai Tucson Limited.
I picked up the first Limited Ioniq 6 sent to Utah in Salt Lake on May 1st. It is a better looking car in person than in pictures! Transmission Blue with light interior. Leased it for the $7500. mfg. rebate and then canceled lease by paying it off for only $499. penalty. Well built, good dealer suoppor, perhaps should have picked up the red but did not want a black interior. Sad they did not include the HUD as in Canada. Highway driving it feels very sporty and comfortable. One of the best things about it is that it doesn't look like all the other Tesla (me too's) on the road!!
I'm thinking about this car and this video is very helpful. Tomorrow is the test drive of Std AWD.... Consumer report rates it higher than both Tesla 3 and S.
I love how this looks in and out. This one is also more efficient which for me is the main point of an EV at least until they can have batteries with 500 miles +. But like everybody says, looks are subjective.
Y’all give Hyundai all their Roses for being unoriginal. If any other brand was exercising this copycat “pick me” method they would be called out for it.
I just got out of my model 3 for a new ioniq 6 long range, so far I love this vehicle much more than my Tesla. Only con for me is that the led headlights aren’t that bright. Other than that it’s amazing
Thank you for another great, informative review and content. I have not test driven this car but getting to sit in one and messing with all of the buttons, it is a nice possibility of an EV one day.
It's worth noting that the NHTSA just opened an investigation on the Ioniq 6 over multiple customer reports of sudden unexpected power loss while driving.
WRONG . . . It's the well-known ICCU issue with the early 2022 Ioniq 5's and nothing to do with the 6's. Hyundai was slow to fix the problem but they now have updates for all the Ioniqs, including the Ioniq 6.
Don't agree with the boot capacity. It is surprisingly roomy. Can easily fit two large suitcases, one small suitcase, and a couple of duffle bags. It is more than enough and a good compromise overall for the efficiency gains of the vehicle.
Smart park can also be used to park the car in a spot with the key fob. I am not sure if I've ever seen you demonstrate this in a review of the HKG products?
I really liked this car was given the choice at rental in LA problem is when you need to recharge if they are working someone else is already there. Tried three locations each had at east one broken charger. Had to return the car at less than 30% company wanted to charge me for not being 70%,
I like this car. However the trunk opening could be better. It should be liftback. The rear en of the car reminds me a Porsche and a Infiniti J30 from the 90's. Acceleration and interior room are good enough for me
Got a chance to drive one and on top of that My neighbors got them and they are really great cars The main drawback is yes the range is a little lower than the Tessa but not by much. But the overall interior quality and feel is much greater than the Tesla and who cares is the Tesla is faster no one's driving these cars fast anyways. And if you want the one with the most range by far it's the base model with the smaller wheels the range is much higher
It's interesting how so many people on social media comments sand test drivers talk about the acceleration in BEVs yet on the road, I see very few being driven fast or accelerated hard. A lot of BEVs are driven moderate speeds with very few seemingly using the acceleration. And I'm all for "smaller" wheels. What's big today is small tomorrow. I remember when 17 inch tires were called large and now they're called small. How big do tires need to be? And they don't improve range or ride comfort being larger. What's the point?
It is a great bargain at 38,000 dollars. It has a better drag coefficient (.21) vs. Porsche Taycan (.22). It has a better review of ratings. I drove this EV (with odometer reading 38,000 km)for 1,000 miles. One has to drive it for a long distance to know how good it drives. I agree it looks better in dark colors
I’m interested in leasing an EV. I like the Ioniq 5 & the 6. Two totally different cars, yet, very similar. Which one would you recommend, and why? Thanks!!
Did I here 360 miles on the model with the smaller rims? I would do that one for sure. Imagine if all car manufactures put 17s on their electric and hybrid vehicles? It’s better for range
Yeah, but not just because of the smaller rims. The 360 range vehicle is not AWD, and has a smaller motor. Instead of mid 4 second 0-60, you get mid 7 second with the 360 range vehicle. Same battery pack, but you're giving up performance for higher range and better mpg (equivalent).
Really been considering either an Ioniq 6 RWD or the new Polestar 2 RWD for a daily commuter EV. I hope some review will compare the 2 directly to see which is the better Model 3 alternative.
Had this exact same dilemma. Was set on an awd P2 until I did test drives of the I6. The P2 has a nice boot with the hatch, panoramic roof is nice and somewhat hides the small cabin size, and is slightly faster (both are very quick) but the I6 was better in pretty much every other way for me. You and your passengers will like the much larger I6 interior alot more, the ride quality is far better, faster charging, more ev range, better priced, easier to find service for if needed, etc... Test drive both but I would strongly recommend the I6.
Please explain why this car is not eligible for the federal USA 7500 credit and why it should be. Hyundai motor group is building new assembly plant(s) in the US to build this and other new Hyundia/Kia/Genesis electric vehicles in the US. The fact this one is built in Korea today should not dis-qualify for the tax credit given Hyundia is actively buildings new factories in the USA. This is one of the most energy efficient electric vehicles sold in the USA, Americans should be encouraged to buy more efficient vehicles, not pushed away to go buy Hummer EV Also, I don’t know why people keep saying this, it does NOT charge at 350 kW on a DCFC. It will max out at about 240 kW if you use a 360 kW charger! 240 is still fast, but there’s so much confusion about this. You need a 350 kW or higher to get the maximum charge rate, but it will NOT charge at 350
I love this car except for one thing that may be specific to me. The seat is just a bit too low to the floor. I would already have one otherwise! I may be the age where a crossover is they way forward.
I have been considering the Ioniq 6 in 2024 when I intend to move on from my aging Tesla Model S. I've owned 2 Genesis sedans in the past and had great experiences with Hyundai in those 2 vehicles. But....the recent battery replacement issues (multiple owners with warranty claims not honored for absurd reasons, leaving them with $45k HV battery replacement costs) have caused me to completely remove it from my list. It's a shame, but I can't KNOWINGLY sign myself up for headaches. If Hyundai reverses course and handles these situations appropriately before I'm ready, I'll consider it again. As of now, I'm only considering another Tesla....the devil you know.
I'd wait for the refreshed Model 3 if you can. Basically improves on the already excellent Model 3 on every way. More range, better ride, better quality interior, quieter, ambient lighting, rear screen, blind spot warning, faster and brighter screen, better rear seat geometry, ventilated front seats etc. all for the basically the same price (costs only about $1000 more in Europe).
@@patmanrick ioniq is noticeably more natural to drive and live with, because they are still designed with driver in mind. Tesla are designed to be autonomous from ground up, so driving might be an afterthought. Great for those who hate driving, not so for others
It's not bad, very plasticy inside, especially for a $55k otd. Test drive a Model 3 SR, much higher quality interior, navigation, key and superior Supercharging and great prices used
Good luck with that logic. I’m sure that’s similar to what people said who preferred blimps over airplanes for air travel. You will sure look really sexy on the side of the road with your broken down Hyundai.
i was so excited for this and they screwed this up bad, the pricing is ridiculous. the ioniq 6 is a model 3 comp, but costs more than the ioniq 5 which is a model Y competitor (more expensive)
The shape of the car reminds me of the Mercur XR4ti from the 80s. The real problem is you can't reliably charge it and help from Tesla isn't coming. And it's HEAVY. I like the style except for the terrible bumpers. The fob looks like a Mork and Mindy toy.
CLA has a different greenhouse. Looks much more like a "stepped on" typical Mercedes greenhouse where this looks elongated with an additional small rear window.
There will soon be a point where there are more public chargers with the Tesla standard, there will absolutely be a need to adopt it. Refusing to do so is like restricting people to use only one lane in a multi lane road. Anyone who has done enough long distance road trips with a Tesla versus another brand EV will tell you to shove your ignorant argument up your @ss.
We all know the EPA's range data is a lie. They say it's a 270 mile range while in actuality it is more 190ish. We all DRIVE, sometimes we have the heater or AC at full blast and we listen to music as well. Please try to be honest about your findings.
I am not sure that you can sell it as "premium" as it's still a Hyundai. Maybe they should not have had a Limited version and instead created a Genesis version like the limited, but a little nicer. You might be able to sell that as "premium".
I just dont understand? What is your problem with maserati? They are bringing out so many new vehicles to compete with Mercedes and bmw like the grecale, granturismo, mc20 yet u just ignore it.
I do like the styling with this color combo.. I’m considering a lease on this for a daily driver. I didn’t much care for the Tesla model 3 driving dynamics and I tried the polestar 2 it’s nice but too small. Maybe vw i7 will be another good option as this ioniq6 is
Were you under the weather for this test? You seem short, testy and a bit winded as you’re speaking very quickly. I still think the Kia & Genesis EVs look more stylish and attractive to me. I didn’t have an issue with the roofline but did with the high floor. That’s a big challenge for me in most EVs. This vehicle should also have basic niceties like wireless phone sync, heated rear seats, HUD & usb c charging at this trim level. I didn’t drive this but I drove the ionic5 a couple times. While it was fun it didn’t feel athletic. If you get too carried away thinking it’s athletic because it’s quick you’ll likely wind up in trouble. I like the regen breaking in these vehicles. Gives it an engine breaking feel like in a manual transmission vehicle. If the Koreans did a better job with their power plant efficiency I think they would sell many more vehicles. Their gas and battery power plants all fall behind most of the competition. If the GV70 had Tesla like efficiency I’d buy that in a heartbeat. How do people freak out about the lack of physical controls in other vehicles but still continue to snuggle up against the 3 & the Y? Can’t u get a GV70 electrified for $57K 🤔
it may be due to his weight. sometimes, heftier people that carry a lot of weight have lower tolerance to activity. he may not have good cardiovascular fitness so he is short of breath easily.

I saw this exact spec on the road the other day. And yes, I turned my head.
So is it kinda deep or really shallow? 😊
Would u recommend this over the same capacity tesla model 3 when the price is about 15% higher?
I'd wait for the refreshed Model 3 if you can. Basically improves on the already excellent Model 3 on every way. More range, better ride, better quality interior, quieter, ambient lighting, rear screen, blind spot warning, faster and brighter screen, better rear seat geometry, ventilated front seats etc. all for the basically the same price (costs only about $1000 more in Europe).
@@patmanrick I am comparing the refreshed model 3 with this (yes, we are the first batch to receive highland, in q4 2023)
@@jasonw98 in that case, yes. I don't see how the Hyundai is better than the Tesla in any way other than rain sensors, indicator stalk and ultrasonics
Test drive a Model 3 SR, much higher quality interior, navigation, key and superior Supercharging and great prices used
wonder what type of 12v batt it has? hope not lead acid
This is really a beautiful ev car from Hyundai,I dig it
Door locks/window switches are also for cost-cutting!
Friend got stranded in his when it wouldnt charge.
Cool story.
Heads up display is available in the top trim.
2:58 Sleek? Yes. Attractive? Not even close.
Unfortunately this color doesn't do it justice. The matte gold I have is absolutely beautiful.
I drove it and thinks it looked great!
Youre blind..this car is really good looking
Luv the Porsche looks. This over the model 3 anyday
If I were to get an EV, this would be the one, in this color and trim
Everybody has a Model 3, and I can't roll with everybody like that
I'm sexy.😎
Good luck with that logic. I’m sure that’s similar to what people said who preferred blimps over airplanes for air travel. You will sure look really sexy on the side of the road with your broken down Hyundai.
@@FlipBoxStudio Your ignorance is duly noted, thinking Teslas are paragons of quality, in comparison. Carry on.🤡
i was so excited for this and they screwed this up bad, the pricing is ridiculous. the ioniq 6 is a model 3 comp, but costs more than the ioniq 5 which is a model Y competitor (more expensive)
“You drove a Hun-Day to get here tonight. I drove an $80,000 BMW.”
That’s now a compliment.
Charge port overheats, research prior to purchase. Class action suit following from Hagens Berman.
The shape of the car reminds me of the Mercur XR4ti from the 80s. The real problem is you can't reliably charge it and help from Tesla isn't coming. And it's HEAVY. I like the style except for the terrible bumpers. The fob looks like a Mork and Mindy toy.
Is this “Kia boyz” safe?
This looks like a EV version of the Mercedes CLA
CLA has a different greenhouse. Looks much more like a "stepped on" typical Mercedes greenhouse where this looks elongated with an additional small rear window.
Hyundai will not change to tesla charger. There is no need.
Tesla & CCS chargers both use same ISO 15118 standard protocol. Just need an adapter.
Will other car companies get the ev tax cut like Tesla? They get 7.5k deduction, how much does Hyundai get?
Just got one with like $12,500 in incentives
I'd considering buying one if it were a liftback.
They'd sell billions a week, if were a SUV. Ha ,ha.
Fastest talking car reviewer right there
Why don't put cameras tech era!!!+☆
The first IONIQ was in 2020, I owned one
2016
Lucky# is 222... is it a sign
Way better looking than boring model 3
I just dont understand? What is your problem with maserati? They are bringing out so many new vehicles to compete with Mercedes and bmw like the grecale, granturismo, mc20 yet u just ignore it.
I'd take this over one of Elmo's rattletraps any day...
"Hun-day" - NO!
"Hyun-day" - Yes.
Protip: "Hyun" is one syllable.
It's like saying, "Tyota" or "Mitsbishi" or "KA" or "Mazd"
How did you activate that fake acceleration sound?
I do like the styling with this color combo.. I’m considering a lease on this for a daily driver. I didn’t much care for the Tesla model 3 driving dynamics and I tried the polestar 2 it’s nice but too small. Maybe vw i7 will be another good option as this ioniq6 is
Kinda got that cady Gucci back end 🤷 take the spair tire off and add rear spoiler
