Saw this at the Schubert Theatre in Los Angeles during the original American debut. Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin were fantastic--spoiled it for anyone else

It wasn't to make it relevant - it was important as it signified the first country which didn't embrace her with open arms. She was insulted that she wasn't invited to Buckingham Palace, but to a country house - she felt it was the aristocracy looking down on her for being lower-class. It was relevant to her, not to an English audience (which had a queen by the time this was out btw).
In my less than humble opinion Ms LuPone and Mr. Patinkin along with Webber's score and Rice's lyrics too technical perfection spoiled this project for the laissez faire world of film adaptations. The music is HOT, the lyrics are HOT, the performers are on FIRE (you thought I was gonna say hot!). Sadly, when it went to film, the producers gave the whole project an overdose of Valium and well, only "Les Miserables" was worse. 'nuff said.
+Raymond Maurer: agreed about the washed out film version which even deleted the enegry, adult satire/language, but I liked Les Mis except for the miscast and ineffective Ms Hathaway
@@zahrahkhalid6333 so what? people who called her whore is high class or militaries. In this patriarchy society, even today a woman with power is something weird to see .And these was realized in the 70's, in my country was a military coup and the name of Evita and Peron was totally forbidden. so I think Andrw Lloyd weber masterpiece is avant-garde.
@emlodik I said the line "later in the play", as in at the END Rainbow Tour when he name-dropped England, was fine. But the interruption in the MIDDLE of this song (Buenos Aires) was irrelevant. Read more carefully next time. ;p
These are brilliant versions! Such high quality. Such a brilliant upload. I've been trying to find somewhere to download them. Do you know of anywhere? Thanks!
@emlodik I laughed so hard reading this. I honest to god listened to this musical over 100 times over the past 7 years, but my sister and I have never had a good joke about this song. Now whenever I hear it, I can think, "WHO THE HELL DOES RAZARA565 THINK SHE IS?!?!?!?!" XD
I prefer Elena Roger's (the new Broadway actress) version of this song. The Argentinian accent and singing helped in emphasizing the song's Spanish flavors.
I would love this version of the song so much more if it weren't interrupted by Andrew Lloyd Webber's vain attempt at making a play about Argentina relavent to the English audience. Eva's line later in the play saying, "Who the hell does the King of England think he is?" was fine, but the interruption in this song was completely irrelevant. D:
This worlks only in stage. The Original Concept Album and the Movie Album have this song complete. The first includes a beautiful and melancholic segment.
She had no power in the role (the songs were completely wrong for her vocal range). And when your show is all about how much power she exuded, that's a problem.
you're wrong. This role was MADE for her have you heard her sing "A New Argentina" live at the tony's? she hit those high notes like they were nothing!
Buenos Aires! Soooo on point! Young music lovers should hear this❤❤❤
Why did I listen to this? NOW IT'LL BE STUCK IN MY HEAD ALL DAY.
James Varble - - It's been stuck in my head for 30 years.
It has been stuck in my head since I first saw the original play on Broadway and now it's 2019!
A week now!!
No one tops this version the best with most energy and most musicality the one and only Patti LuPone!!!
This was the best show I have ever seen, at the Schubert theater! Patti lu pone is priceless!!!!
Saw this at the Schubert Theatre in Los Angeles during the original American debut. Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin were fantastic--spoiled it for anyone else
Indeed they did! And I saw Elaine Page abd David Essex as well!
there is no comparison to madonna patti lupone is the goddess
Madonna is Great... BUT, she is Not the Best.

That fucking melody is so catchy.

Patti is a freaking goddess!
She most certainly did not suck. She was amazing.
Buenos Aires❤❤❤omg!
That disco drum beat though.....
Yes, but this was late 1970s. Everything was disco. Listen to the Rolling Stones and KISS albums from this same period. Disco.
yeah it's cool, I don't know why every other rendition gets rid of the sick bass part at 1:42

+Raymond Maurer The only reason they cast Madona was a line in "The Rainbow Tour": "The new world madona with the golden touch".
+Narwhal Entertainment LOL! That's probably spot on for Hollywood mentality.
Young Mandy is pretty hot I think
This is much better than Madonna's version but Madonna was good for that role...cuz she wasn't good for any role she played except for Evita lool
Kokym8 the tea of 5 years ago is still tastes good.
How about a revival of 'Evita' in honor of Mrs. Peron's centennial.
Would that count as an honor though?
@@zahrahkhalid6333 of course. Peronism is the best thing that happen to this world.
@@PauliBurgos it’s really not a flattering musical to Eva. It repeatedly calls her a whore and diminishes her accomplishments

@allyj69 No, I don't know of anywhere. Sorry. I just burned the CD onto my laptop and uploaded the videos.
This is yellow diamonds va!
@Razara565 What's even more hilarious is that the line occurs during "Rainbow Tour," not "Buenos Aires." :-P
huh?

But this
This is just right!!
I prefer Elena Roger's (the new Broadway actress) version of this song. The Argentinian accent and singing helped in emphasizing the song's Spanish flavors.
Hezekiah Pabico lupone to me is a better singer
I know this is almost a decade old but I love the praise for Elena she’s my favorite!

Razara true

Isn't it time for a musical to be made about Alexandria O Cortez? She,S our Evita.
Claudia, brazilian singer, is better
Someone of every nationality wants to say that their countryman is better. And they are all wrong.
Os fatos.. mas a Patti dá um show
How was she good for the role?
