The best starter plane is one you're passionate about.
I played DCS a few hours per year until I saw one of your videos where you mentioned in passing an F-16 pilot taking out an AWACS and I thought "holy shit, they added the F-16?" and now I have like 1k€ worth of flight sim gear and a bunch of modules.

Hey Drewski, you can launch your R-77's beyond maximum range by overriding launch authority. This missile is not designed to kill unless they fly straight at you, but will usually make the enemy go defensive due to the missile launch warning, and mean you can get closer and use an R-77 or R-27ET that has a better chance of killing.

Something to note: DCS is the great great great grand kid of Flanker from the 90s. It moved to a title published by Ubisoft (yes they caused problems later on) called Lock-On: Modern Air Combat. The flanker we have in DCS is the great great grand kid of that flanker. Fundamentally the controls are identical to what it was in Lock-On. Key binds, systems, all of them are operated in fundamentally the exact same way as in Lock-On. There have been improvements to the model, flight model, some systems have changed a touch, and changes to performance have happened, and some of the more unrealistic functions have been removed (R-27EA RIP forever I miss you so much, oh and the Su-33 used to carry the Kh-41 AShM) but they feel pretty much the same. The process for using the Radar in the Su-27 has always been [2, i, r-alt i for TWS, slew, Return for lock, space to fire]. They're a WONDERFUL way to get into DCS and aren't to be scoffed at. Most DCS players who have been around since the start will have a FC aircraft they love. Mine is the Su-25A. Give them a shot.

Flares are for IR missiles (the ones your RWR doesn't pick up)
Chaff is for radar guided missiles (the ones your RWR picks up)
One caveat is if the enemy fires semiactive missiles in TWS mode your RWR will not pick it up till the missile has gone pitbull (no longer being guided by the pilot's plane radar, and is now self guided)

    • @Emilia-ej7bn
      @Emilia-ej7bn ปีที่แล้ว +3

I know you didn't ask for this information, but maybe somebody scrolling through the comments will find this helpful.
Semi active radar guided missiles: Fox 1
      Infrared guided missiles: Fox 2
Active radar guided missiles: Fox 3
Semi active radar guided missiles are guided by the planes radar. So if the plane loses lock the missile is no longer going to track the target.
Infrared guided missiles are heatseeking missiles. They are also "fire and forget".
Active radar guided missiles are guided by the planes radar until the missile goes pitbull ("Pitbull" is when the missile is close enough to the target so that the missiles own radar can take over and start guiding itself to the target).

    • @acewyvern3489

in bvr mode the dots that you see are the size of the airplane so if there's four little dots together on your screen a
then I think that's the size of an cargo plane, and one dot is the smallest plane

Hi drewski there is a mod that makes fc3 planes have a clickable cockpit, it does work on multiplayer servers also, just something I thought you would find interesting.

There is the RedKite clickable cockpit mod that doesn't break integrity check and adds a lot of clickability to all the FC3 aircraft

F-15 is also really easy to fly, the only complaint i have about it is doesn’t have datalink like the su-27

If you push your Flanker to Mach 2 and high, you may actually out range the AIM-120C fired from deck. ;) As long as you keep the speed you can defend against it while the other party eats the ET.

    Where to begin?
Drewski, I’ve been following your channel for a while now and have enjoyed watching so much that I want to get back into the style of experiences on you gaming titles (ARMA, Meto, Tarkov, even Sea of Thieves) I like that ARMA let’s you do multiple vehicles, aircraft and personnel.
When I say get back, I used to game in the early days. I played on an AT style computer with a keyboard and mouse over a phone modem. I got quite good at Doom, MS flight sim, even an Apache sim with the keyboard overlay (flew it with just the keyboard!). I have never owned an Xbox or any console other than my beloved Atari 2600.
My question is where to begin? My fear is the learning curve. I’m assuming that there are somewhat “standardized” keys and controls for the genre of the 1st person shooters and vehicles, to do tasks like fire, look/aiming, move, pick up stuff, flaps, brakes, throttle, etc…etc… but watching you and others play I feel like I should go back to Pong and Mario Brothers. I know I’ll need a decent Windows 🤢 machine, and an XBox controller, no problem. But what titles, servers, would you suggest? Or just dive in to, say, ARMA or Tarkov and die ALOT.
Can you, or have you done noob, intro videos?
Thanks for your time. I know this was a bit long…

Could you post a screenshot of your key binds for this plane somewhere? I own it and am slowly figuring it out, but I have no clue what keybinds should be where. Specifically I have no clue what most of the important ones are called and which ones are worth taking up stick space for vs leaving on the keyboard.

I don't know about the su 27 but I hopped right in the f-15 and was able to takeoff and land almost immediately. F15 dlc was a great value. I just haven't gotten into combat yet since I'm so new I know I'd be useless. :)
