      I was at the IMAX in Seattle and the theater really lit-up when we saw and heard that. Also the point when Seven chose her legacy "go" phrase - that we didn't get to hear. Fun talking about that in the discussion later in this episode.

    I loved when Riker says, "Take good care of her Geordi." as they're leaving the Bridge. And Geordi says, "She's always taken care of us." Reminded me of Old Man McCoy's line from "Encounter at Farpoint".
    Another great moment was when Q appears to Jack and says, "I was hoping THE NEXT GENERATION wouldn't think so Linear." A nice call back to the final episode of TNG when he says, "It's time to put an end to your TREK through the STARS."

  • @gestaltdude

    I watched the episode, heard the opening, thought, "That's a nice nod to Chekov and TOS." Hours pass and it suddenly hits me: Chekov's first name was Pavel, not Anton. Then I remembered about what happened to the Anton Yelchin, and got a bit choked up that they were paying homage to a great character and actor at the same time. So moved was I that I called my best friend, also a Trekkie who has, alas, fallen victim to time and been out of touch, to share this. I'm just disgusted it took my memory so long to make the connections between the different movies, series, actors and characters, and the rest of the mind for not checking the credits to see it was Walter who did the voice over in the first place.

    They used a phaser to transport Picard in an episode called Gambit. It a was a group of mercs that wanted to kidnap him and fake his death or something like that. I can’t quite recall the details but it was only done once and offscreen. Season 7 two parter.

    • @jaqenhghar2970
      @jaqenhghar2970 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah, I was confusing another TNG episode "Higher Ground" where a group of terrorists kidnap Crusher and they used like a teleport that was toxic to living tissue. I was under the impression that Crusher was shot and teleported. But again, was confusing that with your assessment in "Gambit".

  • @FreihEitner

    Of course, Anton Chekov is a fitting tribute to the late Anton Yelchin who played Pavel Chekov in the Kelvin timeline films.

    • @its_llew
      @its_llew ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was probably my biggest "fangirl moment" of the whole series. They may have had loads of old characters back, or referenced old episodes, but to hear the name "Anton Chekov" and then realise it was Walter saying it was really something.

    • @FreihEitner
      @FreihEitner ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@its_llew At first I thought, "Anton Chekov, the writer?" But then it hit me and it was an, "Oh of course!" moment.

    As for the poker game, I read an interview with Terry Matalas where he said they actually just let the camera roll for a long time (can’t remember if it said 45 minutes or two hours) and had the cast just play poker and chat ad lib in character. Apparently they’re thinking of including it as a special feature somewhere.
    Snoring Worf after a rough shift is the most relatable moment on Trek for me.
    Fully agreed that Laris should have been there. Spending two seasons setting that relationship up only to completely forget about her was one of the few disappointments.

    I don't like being wrong, but I do enjoy owning up to being wrong! Episode 9 lowered my expectations for a "grand" finale. Boy was I mistaken!!! Episode 10 was was excellent, from beginning to end! Well done!!! The Star Trek franchise is the best science fiction in the world. For me there isn't even a close second! lol Star Trek is the reason why I've never seen more than a clip of the entire Star Wars series!😂The characters in Star Wars clips always looked silly as hell to me, compared to Star Trek characters. I tried to watch the Orville, and although I liked the graphics, the characters didn't seem to behave like any type of real soldiers. Season 3 of Picard is already legendary as far as I'm concerned! Star Trek forever!❤

    Great acting in the finale, but it was too short, too condensed, and leave quite a few threads unaddressed. What did Work sacrifice? What was the deal with Changeling gang and the click language? Why was Jack a super soldier (once)? What about Lariss and pretty much anything else from Season 1 and 2?

    • @awmperry

      It did hurry things along a bit more than I thought ideal, but I can understand that last-episode hurry-up. But yes, I did wish Laris had got a conclusion. I may be old-school, but I really liked the Laris/Picard relationship.

  • @awilliams1701

    The phasers are transporters is an idea I came up with back 94 or so. I wanted to make a star trek mod for doom. I was trying to come up with new weapons. Eventually I got the idea.....what if you could beam someone to death? So I had a device that would 1 shot anything in the game. It was so powerful that even a temporary invincibility powerup wouldn't work. I called it the transporter code 13 weapon. Transporter code 13 was from the TNG episode Captain's Holiday. lol For balance I made each shot very expensive though. It's basically the BFG 9000 remapped. But this was intended to kill, not to isolate. However even if I wanted to isolate.............I have no idea how I'd do that given the limitations of what you could do with doom back then. One of the coolest things I figured out was how to have the corridor explode with a hull breach and a forcefield snaps in place. Originally there was no explosion, but eventually I got explosions added as well. I even recreated the death by transporter scene from the motion picture. lol

    Perhaps the symbols represent a shoutout to alpha epsilon 9, which is a reference to the V'ger probe. Many believe or have summized that this probe was associated with the Borg. There are also 2 fraternities at Emerson College, Alpha phi omega and alpha epsilon phi which Matalas could be referencing as he did attend the college.

    As for s4 or spinoff, have both! A spin-off with the Ent-G, and a season 4 of Picard… but Picard’s done his duty and now retired properly, and the whole season is a sitcom set in and around the Picard vineyard. Picard, Laris and Beverly live at the vineyard trying to pretend they’re not a throuple, Riker and Troi run a jazz club in the village, Data runs a local chattery and tutors maths at the high school, LaForge runs the garage and has an elaborately fitted out shed where he invents stuff…

Ok yeah they had beautiful borg queen in season 2. They could have had her be wrecked and mangled borg queen in this season. That would have meant more than a random borg queen we've never seen before.

    re Mr.Koenig's story-- is there anyone here who *doesn't* believe that phone call must have come from Rick Berman?
    You see, Koenig had been asked to write a few scripts for Star Trek: The Animated Series back in the day, and all of his own scripts had been rejected as "too woke" basically, but more to the point he had been blacklisted for raising a fuss about a script that he rightly found to be very offensive and condescending and stereotyped in it's portrayal of indigenous and tribal peoples. For that he was branded a "trouble maker" by the Bermanish studio execs who ran all media back then.... probably Berman decided that it was muuuuch too 'uppity' for a potential guest-star to want to have ANY creative say in his own episode and he construed it as a challenge to his own author-itay. But also he's on record as saying that he hated the idea of TOS characters ever appearing on TNG. He even opposed them *mentioning* Spock at all, in an episode that was *about Spock's father*. >.>

    One last Question - will you review the Section 31 movie and maybe other mirror universe episodes as "Mirror versions" of yourselves? pls 🙏

    I agree with Malissa, and didn't think about it when I saw it, about the racial profiling of the Changelings.

    I met Walter at a con. He and George Takei had been signing autographs for a few hours but they both stopped and shook my hand and gave me a free autograph. The classic trek cast were the nicest sci-fi actors I ever met. Other shows (non-trek), meh.

    I'm confused by the racial profiling issue that was brought up. They had to find all the remaining changelings that had infiltrated Starfleet. I wouldn't call that profiling in a way that infringes on individual rights....I'm glad for that one scene to tie up the loose end after Vadic's death and then all attention turned to the Borg. It was closure for that thread.

      Yeah I thought that was a dumb point. It's not like these were envoys from the great link appearing as changelings. If someone is detected to be a changeling by the transporter but appearing as a starfleet officer, you can assume with 99.9999999999% certainty they're up to no good. Assuming the bulk of the changelings are living peacefully and listening to Odo spread the good word, then they're not going around with false identities infiltrating the federation. Also she said they didn't kill the people they replaced, but that wasn't out of compassion. The one impersonating Tuvok even said they're as good as dead. They only kept them alive because they thought they'd need them.
      Sure Vadic was sympathetic after what had been done to her, but she wasn't limiting her revenge to her torturers, and had to be stopped.
      In short, say no to political correctness, and yes to practical correctness. It's only logical

    I really wish they could have Janeway for that scene. If there was one person that could have been any prouder than me of Seven in that moment, it would be Janeway. Sadly they ran out of budget though. Kickstarter man!!! seriously. I would have chipped in to get her. lol
