The bridge being so open with much fewer control panels indicates technology doesn’t have to be at your fingertips as much and that the ship itself does not need as many crewmen to keep it operational. Personal space is important on this ship with the Captain having his own office off the side of the bridge. Crew quarters are larger. Holodecks to allow people to be creative and escape into their creations. There is a large forward lounge to have people meet and talk or just hang out looking at the stars. If I were to explore space, that’s the ship I’d want to do it in. It feels like a place of learning and introspection. Perfect for writers to type out drama. Glad you like the D. So glad it has its fans. Is it my favorite? No. The refit will always have my heart 2nd being the Enterprise C. I just couldn’t get over the duckbill platypus design. Even some of the Star Trek creators said it only had 2 good Beauty shots. Everything else looked disproportionate, awkward. And I agree. But the D is a beauty when it comes to the F the J or the Kelvin time line Enterprise. Those I hate with a passion. Hailing frequencies closed.
The F is a beauty too, yes I too love the refit it will always be my favorite but the F was a design experiment for Star Trek Online and was not part of the designs from jj trek (can't stand the design of the A from beyond) but it is a favorite of mine including the Yorktown refit of F in STO. Give the F a chance she is just as a beauty as the D. And just like Worf I like the E for her additional weapons. We need to see what happen to her.
One little nitpick, the ships in yesterday's enterprise were Kvort Class battlecruisers, there was also a bird of prey in that episode. The dialogue suggests the enterprise is more the a match for them but they had to manouvere to protect the C which resulted in limited defensive options to them.
@@LgiovanniF correct. They are massive and slow. Slightly bigger than D, but smaller in volume & mass. Interesting thing is, I suspect her wings aren't moveable, as somehow she always been seen w/ her wing in atmospheric mode even in space.
12:38 - You're not completely wrong... While it was said that other ships, like the OG 1701 could separate, I seem to recall that the big deal with the Galaxy Class separation was that it was the first one that could also reassemble without the help of a starbase. I don't recall where I read this from, but it's a very clear memory for some reason. The old ships had to tractor the saucer section back to have it externally reconnected. Maybe someone else can fill in the blank on where I might have heard this from. Assuming this isn't some Berenstain Bears BS on my part.
The only argument I would make about the Constitution separation is that it was ONLY an emergency procedure, acting as a life-raft, allowing for it to safely crash land on a planet. Unlike the Galaxy class, it couldn't reattach itself, and required a shipyard to properly reconnect. It is a long-standing part of the specifications. You even claim we "never" see it on screen and then bring up this requirement when it was finally shown? The Galaxy is clearly the superior vessel, with the first (but not last) able to separate and reattach on a whim, but that doesn't mean we just ignore what we knew and finally saw. Like Boba-Fett's knee-rockets, it was something we saw and were excited to finally see acknowledged.
😂 I'm so mad that out of all the funny parts you snuck in this video, it was the dang Team Rocket reference that got the biggest chuckle out of me🤣🤷🏾♂️🖖🏾
I personally disagree with the premise it's the best, but I gladly accept the fact that, for lots of people, it is. Mine is the 1701 refit. But, I'll bet that for others it's Voyager or perhaps even the pluckily "little" Defiant or Cerritos. Now, carry on. because the Galaxy-class has a beauty all her own.
Mr Adam it is becoming increasingly common to rewind your presentations as vital information is often misheard due to your comical delivery. A genius plan to double the viewing statistics.
Probsbly someone already said it, but: the stardrive section did not have a third, forward facing torpedo launcher. It had an additional forward-facing phaserbank. The saucer section was the one with the third torpedo launcher that became operational only after separation, but it was facing aft. Why? The stardrive section already had the two torpedo launchers (one fore, one aft) that would be used even if the ship wasn't separated. Upon separation, the saucer section would be left with none, if these were the only two launchers. So a third launcher is installed in the docking cradle holding the stardrive section in normal combined flight mode which would only be exposed to space if the ship separated. Think of it as an extra poop chute revealed only when the ship dropped its pants.
Sorry the 3rd torpedo launcher is in the 'Saucer Module' aft facing and can only be used in saucer separation mode and not in the Star Drive. pg 128 Star Trek: The Next Generation technical manual. It's an older type and not one of the Star Drive's tree deck tall mass driver 8 round bust fire/shotgun mode doom cannons.
What about Baryon sweeps? It seems like no one mentions that you can’t be in space too long before you’ll have to come back to sweep the ship every few years
At least every 5 years. But enterprise spends a lot of time at warp so maybe needed it ahead of schedule some ships probably could last for longer with the sweap
1701-D will always be special to me. I saw the first episode when TNG first aired. Captain Picard looking around the bridge, taking it all in, 10 year old me was hooked! I would go on to design my own spaceships in HS, collect technical manuals, take Klingon language lessons via mail (I still have the book and lesson corrections) belong to a Star Trek club under my dad's name, attend cons around the Bay Area, and dream about space exploration on the Enterprise while monitoring the skies through my telescope and atop Mt. Hamilton. I only have Shuttle Atlantis left to visit in Florida. Standing beneath them and wondering who will be standing in this exact spot two hundred years from now wondering themselves about those living in Orbitor times who dreamt of a life in space.
I’m so happy you guys showed the USS Enterprise-D firing off 10 photon torpedoes as manual says it should ❤ a lot of us thought 5 forward an 5 aft when that happened but ya know there’s tons of room to stack um that way an fire away , rapid fire 10 of those baby’s an fire phasers at same time like riker commanded worf to do when the hunook ship battled the D just as always those writers let the other guys win , I’d like for once when they hammer an enemy with a ship like the D it does some damage to its equal
The best Enterprise is the -A refit. Also I'm pretty sure my marriage would end if I had to spend time with the Duras sisters. I can name four reasons. 🤨
Enterprise D was my favorite. It was luxurious like a Lexus and a whole city compared to a more boring typical star ship for long deep space missions and of course the hollodeck
If the Galaxy Class Enterprise was to introduce herself to a hostile species, I think that she would probably paraphrase Grunt from Mass Effect 2: "I am Pure Starfleet. You should be in Awe."
The Galaxy Class Enterprise D is my most favorite ship. Period. It is the most beautiful ship ever made and had so much character. Voyager was ok. The Defiant was too small but what they needed. A warship. But the D. The D is the ship that could do mostly anything. I'd love to see a Galaxy II Class. Keeping the shape of the original but just...enhancing it. I also love the ending of TNG. The Galaxy Class IV Dreadnought Enterprise D. If the Federation wanted too. The Galaxy class would become probably their mobile fortresses if they out fitted her to be for war. I know in the Dominion War they had wings of Galaxy's but got to realize that those galaxy classes where in complete. They had most of their systems complete but the interior was not. Just enough to function as fighter carriers, command ships, medical ships, transport ships, and such. Crewed with minimal crew to avoid loosing thousands of crew. The Galaxy class is the best ship period. She is a character herself. TNG got me into Star Trek. It's the only reason why I stay.
As they mentioned in the video the Ross Class is the next version of the Galaxy Class, with larger more circular less elliptical saucer section, larger deflector and updated nacelles. It features warp rings embedded in the saucer for warp travel at warp 6 when separated. Industrial replicators included to set up colonies, crews 2,500 people, dubbed a "mobile Starbase" an evolution from Galaxy Class "mobile city".
As an old school Trek fan, I was always supportive of Star Trek moving on beyond Kirk, Spock and company. So I was on board when TNG premiered. But frankly, the first two seasons of TNG are virtually unwatchable. It wasn't until the third season did the Next Gen cast finally find its footing. From Season 3 onward, TNG was brilliant...
That third torpedo launcher was in the saucer facing aft. Great vid about a great ship. Thank you producers of Picard for reminding us how awesome it really is.
Fun alternate idea: After ol’ Enterprise-D saves the day (in Picard S3) and shows its capability against the entire “modern” Starfleet (with only a 7-person crew), they decide to give her a third nacelle and massive railgun-looking weapon, make her the new/old flagship. AND Captain Riker takes command. Q (death retcon’d) would approve 😉
Dude I like the refit Enterprise which is the coolest Enterprise .Or at least I think so ,And the Iron Lady was starting her second reign terror over in your next the woods ,Since I got expeince a English summer which is wet ,When I was tourist there .Not big fan of rainy weather in the rainy capital of the world ,But the D did look nice on tv back In 87 .As pretty cool in DC comics where they did a mini series of "Star Trek The Next Generation ".I would recommend it ,But it out print in comics ,And never got reprint or paperback for that matter .So still like the refit Enterprise .And can still like the D cause its your video dude .
I was glad to see the Enterprise-D display its full tactical capabilities in Picard. The class was never represented properly due to story needs or due to special effect limitations of the time.
Data: I can pilot this ship through all the narrow openings in the Borg cube at speed. Geordie: The saucer is the only original part! Poor star drive. Why didn't we do a seperation and only take the star drive I built from scratch in the last 20 years into battle? Data: Must have been one of my other sub personalities distracting me, I would have normally suggested that. As there are no other crew or families on board it would have been a more efficient use of resources and power, than to power the whole ship. It is also much smaller. But no time for that now. We're going in.
I grew up on the films, dad took me to see wrath of khan, search for Spock and voyage home when I was 7, 9 and 11 respectively. That should explain why my far favorite Enterprise or any other ship is the Enterprise refit, or the 1701A since body wise they were the exact same. I watched Next Generation from the start and it took me a long time to like the D. I thought it was too wide anf flat, and I thought the deflector looked like a cinnamon roll. As the years past though I came to really get a comfortable feeling with the D, I guess after 5 or so seasons it began to feel like home As the years past and we got into the next gen films and onto the E (which I loved too) I really kinda missed the D. With the way it went down leaving just the saucer section along with the fact that they didn't recreate it with the E the way they redid the refit body with the A, I figured I'd never see it again. Was pleasantly incorrect about that.
The 3rd torpedo launcher was on the saucer section facing aft. It was only usable when separated since it was covered by the stardrive when docked. It makes since so that it could fire on vessels pursuing it when separated.
Wow,... a really entertaining presentation of Gene's Beloved Galaxy Class Starship - with great insights into it's development & operation. Well done 😙.😉

K'vort are the big ones aren't they?
@@LgiovanniF correct. They are massive and slow. Slightly bigger than D, but smaller in volume & mass. Interesting thing is, I suspect her wings aren't moveable, as somehow she always been seen w/ her wing in atmospheric mode even in space.
@@thunderboltcougar5626 That was because it was the ST 3/4 filming model. After filming ST 4 the wing moving mechanism was broken.
@@mattmuttley oh.. daamn..
The k'vort ate sized up B'rel... bird of prey.
13:39 I'm really enjoying the jokes teases and puns you edited into this video.
My personal favorite is the updated Constitution class Enterprise / Enterprise A. To me she is the most beautiful and Majestic ship of the line
You are by far my favorite from Trek Central. I wish you did more videos! you are really good at this.
Thank you 🫠
Absolutely!!!! The way you say "poor star drive" makes me laugh every single time😂
Seeing the saucer separation in the first episode at 8y/o was awesome!
YAAAAASSSSSSS, 🙇🏻♂️bow down🙇🏻♂️ To the D! Love.. Love… Love the video Thank you Lt Commander Adam and the Trek Central team!
"Earth-shattering kaboom."
And, I'm ded.
20:02 - 20:30
Somebody please tell me I’m not the only one who laughed at this and/or went “oh, hell no!”.
Looks like the Enterprise is warping off again!
It's Lt Commander Adam!
Favorite part of this ship was that it had a barbershop!
Think there was any dice or domino action going on?…..haha
This was a fantastic video! Well done
After picking myself up off the floor from laughing. BRAVO!
I was in the Army when STNG came out. Someone brought in a tiny B/W tv and a bunch of us gathered around to watch.
@12:35 not that far fetched. Armies used to have soldiers families follow on the march for centuries.
"No bloody A or B or C or D" ! said by Scotty !
That went places.
Still mad that StarTrek shut down the Stage-9 project. I enjoyed walking around the D. Sadly I don't have the download anymore.
My favorite host! Thank you! Hilarious!

"Don't answer that!"
Me: Of course I I know my way. I have the Starfleet Technical Guide to help me on my way!
>:) Mwahahaha!
She is a beautiful and elegant ship the Enterprise D is my ship.
If I had known, I would have made a drinking game of this video... Every time 'poor stardrive' is said I'd take a shot.
The Enterprise D is by far the best looking ship in all of star trek in my opinion. :)
Dude, I've seen a lot of your stuff. This takes the cake! 💯🫡
"Poor Star-drive!"
Been my favorite ship since I was a little kid.
I was 12 years old when TNG came out and loved the design of Enterprise D even to this day
If the Galaxy Class Enterprise was to introduce herself to a hostile species, I think that she would probably paraphrase Grunt from Mass Effect 2:
"I am Pure Starfleet. You should be in Awe."
Love this
The Galaxy Class Enterprise D is my most favorite ship.
Actually watch the last two eps. There are updated galaxy class ships in the mix.
8:35, show O'Brien respect
24:34, GO.......D..............GO, YOU CAN DO IT...........WE LOVE AND BELIEVE IN YOU
It was a Space Marriot Convention Center and Concert Hall
Cheers Adam. I remember both . ( hurricane and the next generation) I slept through the hurricane 😆
6:06 Geordi was able to get her up to warp 9.97 in the episode "The Survivors."
She is gorgeous. It was Incredible to see her once again saving the day.
Poor Stardrive. You are missed.
Poor Stardrive count: 8 !
By the way..... wasnt't the D about 642m in length? (he missed a hole meter)
I love the e....
But the d has a homely feel to it 😊
Amazing ship, but my favorite is the Constitution refit!
I mean, that would be a great tie-in to All Good Things.
they have to fix the ramp first. Watch Marina in her heels. Geordie didn't get the ramp right.
Hail to the Queen!
Man, this guy really likes the Stardrive section. I don't blame him.
I always crack up at your way on Chief Miles Edward O'Brian.
I was glad to see the Enterprise-D display its full tactical capabilities in Picard. The class was never represented properly due to story needs or due to special effect limitations of the time.
Kelsey Grammer did a great job of narrating this.
9:51 i can assure you, whatever is underneath those blue rectangle windows, it’s not 3 story tall trees
She is the most beautifull ship ever conceived in Sci Fi imho. I am looking at a model of it right now in front of me, and o my god is she beautiful.
I love how your editing around “poor Alexander” suggests he was on the star drive.
As the years past though I came to really get a comfortable feeling with the D, I guess after 5 or so seasons it began to feel like home
As the years past and we got into the next gen films and onto the E (which I loved too) I really kinda missed the D. With the way it went down leaving just the saucer section along with the fact that they didn't recreate it with the E the way they redid the refit body with the A, I figured I'd never see it again.
Was pleasantly incorrect about that.
The retrofit and the the E are so much better looking than the D.
The 3rd torpedo launcher was on the saucer section facing aft. It was only usable when separated since it was covered by the stardrive when docked. It makes since so that it could fire on vessels pursuing it when separated.
I feel the "Initial -D" joke was a missed opportunity. Should have played that music while showing the ship "drifting" through the giant cube ;).
This is my 5th favorite Enterprise after Constitution refit, original Constitution, Enterprise G and E. In that order.
Wow,... a really entertaining presentation of Gene's Beloved Galaxy Class Starship - with great insights into it's development & operation. Well done 😙.😉
All those ships being basically the same size in the fleet museum really upset me, the size of that bird of prey ffs, such a shame otherwise pretty damn cool.....👍👌👍
"It won't be installed until Tuesday!"
(sounds familiar!)
This was super entertaining. Thank you!
