    The ADF is probably one of the most underrated elite formations that the general public is generally unaware of, compared to the Commandos and the Guards.
    I myself only got to know about them when a relative signed up for the Army, he wanted to join the Commando but they already filled their recruitment quota and was offered to join the ADF instead.

    • @DragonX2X7
      @DragonX2X7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sry for digging up "old post" but it seems kinda weird to hear "filled their recruitment quota". Even if that is true, if your relative is keen to join the CDOs (or SOFs), he can still apply at a later date. There are quite a large number of "non-CDO/NDU background" personnel who got into SOFs and CDOs, so as long as he doesn't give up, the chances are still there. There are some regulars who join the CDO NSFs batch for 2 years and as they are regulars, they continue into advance training, etc.

      Originally, I recall they came from the "Army 21 Developmental Force", the A21DF.

  • @garfieldandfriends1

    Fun fact : SOF has been activated in 1991 to take down 4 terrorists onboard Singapore Airline flight 117 when they held hostage to 114 victims on a plane for 9 hours. They swiftly took down 4 terrorists with gunshots at the last moment with no other hostage casualties.
    During that time, the SOF is unknown to the public because SAF kept this unit a secret, and only revealed in 6 years later in 1997. Meanwhile, news report before 1997 could only report them as commando to maintain their secrecy.

      Agreed, they're next level compared to the common regular. I was in guards and saw them training in bedok camp a couple of times. Much better fitness, training, skillset, teamwork and equipment. And they have all the crazy course badges like diver and especially ranger. Quite a few had those prestigious US badges too. My cousin was a corporal in ADF, also has ranger badge, noone dares to talk to him about army/NS stuff hahaha.

    Sensitive units or standby teams that have not been declassified probably do exist. For example, in the past, a unit with "men-in-black" was hiding within another unexpected unit. There was also another ordinary-looking camp that was one of the last to be a green zone for camera phones, allegedly because of another sensitive unit hiding within. And years ago, there were supposedly special personnel holding exit permits for "all countries for one year" for convenience and speed during deployment, when ordinary personnel had to get an exit permit for every overseas trip. I'm glad our country is kept safe because of good men like them.

    Why ADF are different from others Infantry unit! They do not need to wait for their commanding officer to give further instruction in urban or jungle war to contact with the enermies. They are train to describe war type, size and enermy thread. They are very capable in giving small section to a platoon size on engaging enermy as their mission to capture and destroy.
    They are train not to slow down and ignore tiredness until their mission are completely successfully.
    They are also good and proficient on their weapon handling, trick and even in blindfold.
    Those are strong in combat, fitness and intelligence will embark to the Ranger course, CRF or SOF.
    The first pioner establish ADF troopers, specialist and officers on the early year 2001 were actually train by both elite unit.

    All it takes to set a wave in motion
    Is a single word, an action
    A hope that we can be
    The change that we’ve been
    longing to see
    **Pre Chorus**
    For our home, our land, our family
    It’s all within our reach
    **Chorus**
    See this island, every grain of sand
    Hear this anthem, it’s the voices of our friends
    Come whatever on the road ahead
    We did it before, and we’ll do it again
    **Verse 2**
    When the moments turn to hours
    And the day’s last light is gone
    Look around us always and remember
    There were times we were uncertain
    But we just kept walking on
    It’s always darkest just before the dawn

    Come whatever on the road ahead

    Our home, the home we share
    Where the garden always grows toward the light
    Though the road ahead is daunting,
    I know we’re gonna be alright

    • @DragonX2X7
      @DragonX2X7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At 3:03, it's actually the last part of X72 where everyone (expect the Commando Officers) gets their Red Berets. Those selected to be CDO Officers (after leaders course) get their Red Berets before going to OCS and after completing OCS, there is another CDO leader course as the CDO does things differently from Army Officers. Only then they are called CDO Officers.

      @DragonX2X7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jianxiongRaven Well they don't exactly "finish CDO course", they become "full fledge" at the end of the Red Beret ceremony, so you can say at that point they "finish CDO course".
      Trainees just finish the leadership course to be specs and among them, the best get selected for the OCS (and they get their Red beret early as they are going to represent the CDO Formation in the OCSch). Everyone will come back together to continue their CDO skills training and apply what they've learned.
      By the time of the Red Beret ceremony, it means that everyone there have been trained on the skills required of them. After which, they continue to hone the skills learned and improve upon it.
      Regulars who join CDO "at a later date" will still go through the "NSFs CDO route" but will be sent for the leadership course instead. If their SAF contract is a spec contract, there is only a small chance of them being selected to go for OCS during the leader's course (more of a SAF and contract thing from what I've heard).
      After Army OCS course, there is another CDO officer course to take, where they will be taught the difference. Just a simple idea, Army Officers command a large group of troops (tens to hundreds to thousand depending on role/position/etc), while the SF officers have a much smaller group to operate with at every level. They have to make the best out of it and so the tactics, etc will be quite different.
