    The run, right into the middle of Isiah Robertson's chest (Rams #58) is one of my all-time favorite football plays. That was Earl's signature run for me.

    • @abrego150

      +RPG 808 honestly it was Jack Tatum who put a lick on earl. he hit earl right under the chin but earl still won. if earl would of dropped his shoulder Tatum would've flew into the stands lol

    Earl was fast, powerful, elusive and tough. Always acted like “he’d been in the end zone” when he scored. Never acted like selfish fool like we see in today’s players. Great person and a class act!

    • @GiantsOLB53
      @GiantsOLB53 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      He is definitely one of the greatest, but the best of all time is Jim Brown. And as much as I love Earl I would have to put OJ and Barry Sanders ahead of him. Walter Peyton is also right up there, but Earl is definitely in that conversation.

    To me Earl was the best rb to ever play the game for the first 4 years he played. After that he was worn out after carrying the ball 30 times a game and he didn't shy away from contact. One of my all time favorite players and I'm a Cowboys fan.

  • @scottrawlins
    @scottrawlins 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The 2:53 mark is the single greatest 15 yard run of all time. Not to mention the most brutal hit an offensive player has ever put on a defensive player. When he does that little hop-skip and regathers and then just explodes into dudes chest.....one of my favorite highlights of all time. Earl and Barry were my favorites of all time to watch. Loved Walter, Ladanian and many others but those two have the greatest highlight reel of any of them.

    This guy was magic--I used to love to watch him play. The Oilers couldn't seem to beat Pittsburg, but I remember one game in particular against them where he got held to low yardage because the field was too muddy and he just couldn't get his traction. The ground couldn't hold his power and he just dug holes where his shoes touched the field. If that same game had been held on a dry field or Astroturf, I think Earl would have kicked butt and taken names--with a Houston victory the result.

    If he couldn't outrun you, he'd juke you. If he couldn't juke you, he'd run you over. If he couldn't run you over, he'd carry you with him. I've even seen him pass. The total package in a RB. And no one, I mean NO ONE had more class!

    I'm as big of a BEARS fan as there is. Walter Payton is / was / always will be my favorite player of all time, but, if I were an owner and had to pick a RB, my first choice would be The Tyler Rose. He was the most dominating RB I've ever seen. There may be more well rounded ( pass catching , blocking ) backs than Earl but there are none better at running the ball when all 11 defensive players know who's getting it.

    omfg... what a beast. Literally just manhandles the guy at 2:09, plowing through defense. SO FAST for his size, guy is like a mountain combined with a muscle car. Crazy!

    Hell yes. He is the reason I went to UT. Passed up a juco scholarship because I wasn't NFL by a long shot. Loved my time in Austin. Go Tyler Rose!

    Awesome. Watch how he carries the ball like a hot loaf of bread, but he rarely fumbled. Wow, he was like a steamroller. Walter Payton, Earl Campbell, and Barry Sanders were why we watched the NFL.

    If you were alive in the 70's, then you heard that shot that Tatum put on Campbell, but still managed to stagger into the end zone. The 70's peaked into footballs greatest decade.

    I also remember reading a story about him playing HS ball, he was in the clear for a touchdown and went back and flattened every defensive player just to prove a point, then turned around and walked slowly into the end zone. I loved watching him carry 4 or 5 guys for an extra 10 yards. What a badass.

    As a kid growing up in NY I remember seeing Earl in his cowboy hat with coach Phillips on tv. He may possibly have the greatest highlight reel in NFL history. He didn’t have the longest career but there were some incredible moments. His power and speed were uncanny.

    I admit I wasn’t familiar with the old school Houston Oilers. I can’t remember which year it was, but my friend and I played Madden all the time. We would play with different teams and sometimes we would do the teams that were the greats. My friend didn’t know know who Earl Campbell was either but he used an early 80s Oilers team and their running back was so fast and almost impossible to tackle. I was like who the hell is that guy? I looked it up and found out all about Earl Campbell. Another back that reminds me of Earl Campbell was Bo Jackson. A huge guy that had blazing speed and was agile as a cat
