There’s certain athletes that just stand out when you watch footage. Barry Sanders moves different. It’s like seeing Jordan highlights or Lionel Messi in their professions. Or like seeing Jimi on the guitar how they are so fluid and natural but it only came with years and years of practice and studying.
Barry was special. He could change direction without losing a bit of speed. LT and Peterson were power runners who were simply stonger than backers. Emmit was behind the best line ever.

Sort of like loving racing.......I've seen cars go in circles before, and I"ve seen guys running around the park aimlessly too, yet I've never wanted to watch it for hours in a row.
I lived in Stillwater when Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders played at OSU, and saw three games the year Barry won the Heisman. Had the chance to meet him briefly once, he is one of the most humble persons I've ever met.

There was a run where Barry juked Pittsburgh Hall of Fame CB Rod Woodson into an ACL blowout. Made him injury prone and effectively ended his CB career. Woodson made a career comeback back as a safety with the Ravens.

Barry Sanders was a one trick pony. Great East/West runner with amazing moves but was at best a mediocre pass catcher & a horrific blocker. Forget throwing the ball & how can Sanders be the best RB of all time when he was taken out of Goal line half the time?!
Another thing is he danced around so much that he put his team in horrible situations as a result of losing yardage on a consistent basis. You know the Homerun King is also the Strike Out King too right!?
And don't give me the, he had a bad offensive line when that's simply not true. In fact his spread offense gave him so many great opportunities to get break away runs.
He was good but Adrian Peterson at his peak was better, id say Sanders is the 2nd best ever

I feel like (someone correct me if I'm wrong) strong runs such as all the clips shown in this video are what football is all about. One man running through (with the help of his team) an entire defense saying NO, NO YOU WILL NOT STOP ME and plowing through via sheer will and God given talent
This video is special. every running back (and offensive lineman of course) shown in this video is special. These are warriors. The RB is the true mans position, someone who takes punishment after punishment and just keeps moving forward with strength and perseverance and a never say die attitude

The agility and balance from Barry Sanders is incredible
It’s amazing how some of these guys can throw off one, two or even three tacklers, yet also be graceful and fluid in running. They have it all - strength, agility and speed.
Barry is on another level. The dude just moved at a different frequency.

@@briannelson6830 Disagree. You don't average 5 YPC and 100 yards per game running "usually backwards for 2-5 yard losses". Yes, Barry lost yardage during his career, 1,114 yards in 153 games, which is about 7.3 yards lost per game. Considering he averaged 100 yards per game in his career, I'd say there was a lot more going forward than backwards. Consider the fact that for the vast majority of his career he was running without a fullback or tight end in front of him and facing 9 men in the box, it's pretty damn easy to see why he lost some yardage. He was hit in the backfield as soon as he took the handoff on a number of occasions. The thing is, on many of those occasions he did what no other running back could do, he somehow miraculously escaped a significant number of those situations. Those are some of his highlight reel plays. He's the GOAT.

@@evanknechtges1762 - He did have a good offensive line... he had a number of pro bowl caliber offensive linemen in his career, he was surrounded by quality receivers in his career, he played in a weakass division during his career ( yes kiddies the ole NFC North Sucked balls back then) , the fact is, he's severely overrated, and rarely came up big in PLAYOFF games and big moments ( go look up his playoff stats, -1 yards vs Green Bay lol).If you wanna be the GOAT you cant fold like an army cot come playoff time and that's exactly what Barry did. The lions took him OUT of the lineup on goal line situations because they didn't want to LOSE YARDAGE with his constant dancing in the backfield. Did he have some big runs? Sure! Was he a good back? Absolutely! Best ever? NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Ya for sure. Barry and Peyton are just different animals. Derrick Henry will make a run at them but I dont think we will ever see another back like Barry. His jump cuts are ridiculous. So are Peytons. Henry will go down as having the best stiff arm tho.

The Marshawn Lynch one ... 0:33, watch how hard number 83 works during the entire play. (Just saw his name is Lockett.) He starts as the top most player at the line - right hand wide receiver position at the line up I guess, but watch how hard he works on the blocking. It's his TD as much as Lynch's.
He is Ricardo Lockette, a wide receiver with the Seahawks at the time.

Bo does unofficially have the fastest NFL combine 40 yard dash recorded at a 4.13. Bo says it as electronically timed & Haters say it was hand timed. I believe Bo, bc he was there when he ran it & the Haters weren't! Now I can tell you this fact, Bo ran a 10.39 100 meter sprint electronic. Chris Johnson ran his 100 meters at 10.38 electronic. Anything in football under 11 seconds is moving! And both men moved very fast in their day.
Sorry, Bo was really fast, but not a 4.13 fast! He was too big a man (240 lbs.) to be at full speed at 40 yards.
Also, Bo weighed 240 lbs. He was a fullback with wide receiver speed.

Barry Sanders has a million dominant highlights. Every time he touched the ball it was excitement. Every time. But man, that Lynch 67 yarder just might be the most dominant run of all time.
Sanders is far and away the best in history. Ignore the stat sheet, but Beastmode wasn’t too shabby himself and that one run right there was absolutely earth shattering.

Barry was a kick returner and a one cut back at Oklahoma. It wasn't until he got to Detroit where he had no O-line and needed to break to tackles before the line of scrimmage that he became shake n bake.
@Eye in Da sky Yes he did. In his third year. Thomas is older. Barry was his back up and primarily serves as the kick returner in his first two seasons. There aren't many bigger Barry fans then me. However, he was a one cut runner at Oklahoma State because he didn't need to make 5 moves behind the line of scrimmage to avoid getting stuffed.

Derrick Henry's 99 yard run has gotta be on the next iteration of this. Blocking got him the first 5-10 yards. Size, power, and a 99 on stiff arm got him the rest of the way.

My favorite thing about that Steve Young run is how completely ungraceful he looked like it was all just one big accident.
I think QB runs often look that way because they are constantly trying to decide if and when they should take a dive. Steve Young was a great runner, though.

5:17 Many RBs can make guys miss. Only Barry Sanders can elude a defense so badly that they don't even know where he is. Look at Tony Casillas (#75) with his back turned to Sanders. I remember Emmitt Smith talking about that play: "Hey Tony, he's already five yards downfield behind you!"

What I’ll bet a lot of people outside the Bay Area don’t know is that Bill King (Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson calls) and Lon Simmons (Steve Young call) teamed up to do Oakland A’s baseball on the radio for like 15 years in the ‘80s and ‘90s. We’ve had some pretty damn good sportscasters in this area. I know that the subject of this video is most dominant touchdown runs, but I just thought I’d throw that in.

Barry was amazing. When people talk about football players, you would normally say the players' last name...Barry Sanders is as far as I know the only player everybody knows who you are talking about by saying his first name only.

And you think that since the merger 51 years ago, when the NFL came to be, with Lynch only being the 5th or 6th best back in the league for the majority of his best years, in a weaker running era than Any other, that the 90 or so better backs than him, plus random backs who put up dominant runs, didn't put up NINE better runs, EVER, that were videod, than all his?
I know you'll say something like "if 90 backs are better, why is he 36th all time?" since you have an unwarranted affinity for his not-so-extraordinary talent. There are so many backs like Priest Holmes and Terrell Davis, Bo Jackson, Michael Turner(playing as Tomlinson's backup for Half his career) and even Napoleon Kaufman and Deuce McAllister, who were SO much better than him, who didn't get the same longevity or carries due to injuries or splitting time with stars etc, that ranking him 90th may well be Too High! There were 14 game seasons for decades, during which time nearly all teams featured two and three backs way more than Lynch ever endured. There are dozens of backs who were better overall with their pass-catching combined. Defenses today are SO weak against the run compared to all times past, and rule changes dont even allow for the same violence, etc. So, he's around the 90th best back since 1966.... Is that something to be celebrated with the best EVER? Him BEING on this video twice, as well as Only other backs from the last half of NFL history beside Jim Brown, is Why this video is ridiculous.

I don't think one yard touchdowns are included in this list. These are longer than 2 yard td runs or mike alstott would make the cut. Guys like larry csonka would eat mike alstott. No offense but the best running back of all time is a no brainer. Not jim brown or Emmett smith or adrian Peterson. The guy who never took a hard hit, the one and only Barry Sanders. Nobody close to him. The most exciting player in nfl history. Walked away healthy and would have the all time rushing title but what a runner.

Almost as soom as Barry got the ball the defense was on him in seconds. The ability of him to make a 2-yard loss into a legendary run is unbelievable. Im a Buc diehard and our defense back then was legendary & Barry made that daunted Bucs defense look down right foolish some plays.

Some of the most entertaining football I've ever seen. These guys are an incredible combination of strength and speed. The only one missing was the Earl Campbell run where he just levels every tackler (not the one in the video).

Marshawn Lynch is always most impressive to me. You look at guys like Barry Sanders & AP: they are just pure physically superior athletes to the guys trying to tackle them and of course put up incredible highlights. Marshawn Lynch does not really possess that kind of physical superiority, but just comes across as someone completely unwilling to go down. It's kind of inspiring.
Are you kidding me?!?! Side-by-side Lynch is a beast compared to Sanders, and yet Sanders was a living highlight reel. Lynch only put up highlights when he felt like putting forth an effort. Sanders was 110% effort every run, every game.
