- Some airy & ethereal soundscapes with a minimal setup.
Enyoy! ^^
================================
For those playing along at home:
The key is E major, the speed 65 BPM.
I could also render the recording to a midi file, in case anyone is interested in that?
================================
About the setup:
I'm using the reface CP as a MIDI controller, it is connected to my PC via USB-MIDI.
The computer does three things:
1. It records the notes I play.
2. It passes the notes on to the QY100. To be exact, it sends them to midi channels 1, 2 and 3, so I get to play 3 parts on the QY100.
3. Using a free VST plugin called "CCStepper" by CodeFN42, it randomly modulates cutoff-frequencies, stereo positions, and volume levels, to create this evolving soundscape.
If you watch the QY100's screen closely, you can see the faders moving as they are being modulated.
By the way, you can find the plugin here, if you'd like to try it yourself:
codefn42.com/c...
The three patches I've selected on the QY100 are #90 "Warm Pad", #92 "Choir Pad" and #100 "Atmosphere".
The QY100 is then connected to the Specular Tempus, which processes the sound with its "Infinity" algorithm. Knob settings are as seen in the video. ;-)
And the result is recorded by my audio interface.

About the title:
When I went for walks in the recent days, I've noticed how the world feels... quieter.
But yes, I have to write "feels" instead of "is". As I stood still and listened, I realized, it was not really more quiet than usual:
I could hear the birds singing in the nearby trees, cars going by in the distance, and every now and then there'd be a train on the railroad a couple of miles away.
But then I noticed it: There always used to be this background hum of the jet planes, that were passing high above to cross the mountains.
And as I looked up, I started to realize what an usual sight it was, to see a sky with no planes, or contrails, or any other sign of being touched by us humans.
That is what I tried to capture in this song.
This vast realm, high up in the stratosphere, that we now get to see in it's natural form.
