Making electronic music for everyone who likes listening to it. ^^
Ambient Improv // "On Deck"
A quick little improv to show that the Steam Deck can work as a neat recording device. I've installed a couple of free plugins, and am taking them for a little test session. :)
================================
About the setup:
The Steam Deck is the centerpiece here, of course. I'm running Reaper on it, together with some free plugins: The piano is the "Autograph Grand" from Spitfire Audio's Labs. I'm also adding a touch of Valhalla Supermassive for reverb.
In case you were wondering how I got VSTs to run on the Deck:
Well, I cheated, I installed Windows on an external SD card. Yes, in theory you should be able to get it to work under SteamOS, but I had no luck with that. Neither low-latency audio nor plugin bridging would work, and any attempts to make them work were thwarted by odd quirks of SteamOS. So, if you know a way to fix that, let me know. ;)
================================
For those playing along at home:
The key here is A major, and the tempo 60 BPM.
================================
As per usual, some links if you'd like to hear more:
Bandcamp: lanthanoide.bandcamp.com/
Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/lanthan-oide/
Website: lanthanoide.jimdofree.com/
Haven't updated Soundcloud or the website in a loooong time, though. But keeping it here for the sake of completeness...
But I have put lots of music on Bandcamp lately, so if you think I haven't released anything in the past months...
please take a look at that, there's a lot of new tracks that I didn't put on TH-cam, because I hadn't recorded any video. ;)
================================
As always, thank you for listening!

Jam Session // An Autumn Breeze
มุมมอง 303ปีที่แล้ว
A little jam session as the leaves are turning red. Was quite a fun little project, so I'm putting it here for those who'll like it! About the recording process: This started out as just a plain piano improv. Afterwards, I added the EWI part by playing alsong the previous recording. And then finally, I added the bass, and also some MIDI drums - but those aren't really "live", and thus are not f...
Jam Session // "Running Silent" with Xavier Radix - Re-Interpreting Floyd Steinberg's "Hear From Me"
มุมมอง 4842 ปีที่แล้ว
About two months ago Floyd Steinberg asked me if I could play on a track of his, "Hear From Me". That fool! Didn't he realise that giving me access to the stems gave me the power to make something else with his material? Mwarharharharhar! ...anyways, that's how this song came to be. ;) Ok, but jokes aside: Floyd knew I'd be tempted to do this and also gave me permission. It just took us a bit l...
Jam Session // "Fair Winds" with Xavier Radix
มุมมอง 1.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Time for another jam session! Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome back on the channel Mr. @XavierRadix! Together, we made some experimental ambient music, introducing elements from other genres we like into the track. He's on guitar and drums, I'm on keys... Enough said, let the music speak for itself! ;) For those playing along at home: The key is E major, the tempo 105 BPM. As to who did wha...
Synthwave Jam // "Virtual Sunsets"

More synthwave with the Blofeld & co.! Or is it chillwave? I don't know anymore. ^^' But I like it, so I made some more of it. ;) For those playing along at home: The key is D major, and the tempo 120 BPM. For those interested in the setup, here's a list of the used gear and what it does: Blofeld: Pads Reface CP: Midi-controller for the Blofeld PSR-S700: E-Piano, Bass QY100: Drums, Percussions ...
Ambient Jam Session // "Heligoland" with Floyd Steinberg

Jamming together on the Reface DX and the EX5. This is another ambient track that came to be during my recent visit at @mr_floydst 's place. Hope you'll like this little improv of us making music together! For those playing along at home: The key is C major, the tempo 90 BPM. About the recording process: We recorded this song in two steps: I laid down the part of the Reface DX first, and afterw...
Ambient Piano Improv // "Northward"
มุมมอง 3632 ปีที่แล้ว
Thanks to @mr_floydst, I had the rare opportunity to record on an acoustic piano. So I took it and made this little ambient improv for you. Hope you'll like it! ^^ How this track came to be: I've been on vacation recently, and noticed that my route would pass by Floyd's place. So we used that occasion to meet up and make some music together. - And yes, there may be some more videos from that co...
Synthwave Jam // "Launch Day"
มุมมอง 1.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A throwback to the age of space shuttles and retro synths. Yes, you guessed it, we're going for some 80's vibes today! For those playing along at home: The key is C major, the tempo 130 BPM. About the setup: This one is a bit more complicated, so I've drawn you a diagram. You can find that here, in the community posts: th-cam.com/channels/m_XgB_niZQPzovwWjZ-rfA.htmlcommunity?lb=Ugkxt635EI7wg45m...
Ambient Improv // "Sunrise on a World of Glass"
มุมมอง 2.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Another ambient track, this time taking the Blofeld head-to-head wtih the reface DX, kindly lent to me by Floyd Steinberg. Do the two make a good team? Have a listen and find out! ;) If you'd like to jam along: The key is D major, the tempo is 90 BPM. About the title: Well, I've had this image in my head of what a sunrise on a moon made of glass would look like. At first, even before the sun ma...
Jam Session // "Winter Soul" with Floyd Steinberg & Memoraphile
มุมมอง 4623 ปีที่แล้ว
You know, one of the great things of doing collabs is that we can explore musical directions that I couldn't get to on my own. And so I'm happy that Memoraphile and Floyd Steinberg have joined me for this track, as we dive into the world of soul and funk! :D As to who did what: Drums & bass are by Memoraphile: th-cam.com/channels/QHB0aZB8k7FJakqjXpJNTw.html Pads, poly-synths & sequences are by ...
Ambient Improv // "Oceans and Moons"
มุมมอง 1.7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm surprised I hadn't uploaded a jam session with just the reface plus reverb yet. Strange. Anyway, here's one, then. Hope you'll enjoy it! For those playing along at home: The key is F# minor, the tempo is 70 BPM. For those interested in the setup: This one was very simple. The audio from the reface CP is routed through the Specular Tempus and then straight into my audio interface. And it's t...
Ambient Improv // "Arrival at Ganymede"
มุมมอง 1.5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
More space music! Once again using the Waldorf Blofeld, but backing it up with the QY100's recording and sequencing power. I think the two make for a great combo, what do you say? :D For those playing along at home: The key is C major, the tempo 95 BPM. For those interested in the setup: I've taken the time to draw a sketch for you folks, so it's easier to see what's wired where. ;) Be sure to ...

It's collab time again! We decided to try having a virtual jam session, and here's the song we recorded! Massive thanks to Xavier Radix and Floyd Steinberg for taking part in my musical experiments again, it's always a blast with the two of you. :D Be sure to check out their channels if you haven't already! Ambient / Drone Improv // "Searching The Aether"
มุมมอง 1.9K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A simple ambient jam session using only three pieces of gear: The Waldorf Blofeld, the Specular Tempus from GFI System, and my Yamaha QY100. Enjoy! :) Behind the scenes info, as usual: If you want to jam along, the tempo is 60 BPM and the key is D major. I had programmed a chord progression on the QY100, which is send to the Blofeld during the song. With that, I can focus on tweaking the sound ...
Floating Gates - A Chillwave / Synthwave Jam
มุมมอง 1.5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A chilled jam with the most 80s sounding patches I've made on my synth so far. Enjoy! (Expand the video description for more behind-the-scenes info) About the title: I noticed lots of synthwave tracks are named after electronic devices, so this is no different. Floating gate transistors are one of those things you own millions of nowadays, without even knowing it: They are a key component of fl...

Awesome 🙂
Every time I listen to this i think how simple but brilliant!
is that a custom diy launchpad or some special edition?
WOW ,I am 7 years late, but this is super impressive 🎉
This is amazing, keep doing this!
Very nice. I like that there's a distinct melody in there. A lot of ambient music I hear is just too floaty with nothing to anchor the attention for more 'n a little while.
Thanks a lot Lanthan. 🙏 They sound really good. 👍
I just rewatched this 8 months later. Nice work!!!
nice melody
So sweet
You’re amazingly talented. Do you have an IG or email where I can msg you?
❤❤❤🙏
Nice! What DX patch are you using?
Great tune brother! im interested in adding a blofeld to my sonic palette but im having a question hard to find on the interwebs. Do the pitch wheel from the arturia keystep work with the blofeld for pitch bending? thanks in advance!
nice n chilled, thank you.
where is this patch available? did you make it?
Yes, the patch is one of my own. But I released it a s part of a free soundset a couple of years ago. There's a video about it on my channel, if you'd like to look it up. ;)
Oh, this is so amazing 🙏I like this warm Pads with this slow soundmoves. You got the feeling for that kind of Ambient Music🙏 Are you you using Factory Presets?
Such a nice song !!! Will check out the rest later on :)
Thanks a lot! I hope you'll like it!
Very very cool variations here! Love it!
The algorithm brought me back. This is still mesmerizing!
Thanks! Yeah, I think the tune has aged quite well, too. :)
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your music with us, it motivates this “non-musician“ very very much!
That's great to hear, happy you like it!
So glad to hear your music again. Godspeed.
Glad to have you tuning in again, then! Thanks a lot for listening!
Great to see the Steam Deck in this application! I'm still in "decision mode" between Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go - the Lenovo would include higher res screen, but the question is then the readabilty... Anyway - love your perfomance hope it will be added to your album "The Bonus Material" 🙂 Keep the flow and mood! Warmest regards, Uli
Oh, right! I'll add that there real quick - happy to hear you enjoy the tune that much, thanks! :D Regarding Legion Go and Steamdeck: I think either will do a fine job! If you're worried about the readability, you can always increase the global UI scale in the display settings. ;)
Great stuff as usual! (Sneakily "borrows" son's Steamdeck)
Thanks, Floyd! XD
Very beautiful. I love the simple ambience of piano and reverb.
Thanks a lot for the kind words! I'm really pleased with those sounds as well! :)
Good to hear from you again 🙂
Thank you, Adri! :D
Wonderful!
Many thanks!
This is amazing. So glad I came across this video, thanks to the algorithm it just popped up. Really enjoy your improvisation
Thanks a lot for the kind words! And thanks for listening, I'm glad the algorithm brought you here!
Great job!
Thank you!
Muy bonito
Thank You. I am yery grateful for this beutiful shared gift. Thank You again.
Love to hear some new improvisations again - was a long break! Fantasic how the EWI captures the autumn mood. Very well done!
...and it's great to come back from a break, and see familiar names in the comments section again! Thanks a lot for the kind words, Ulrich! :)
This is some really good stufffff, excellent! brilliant! ❤
Thanks so much, Sam! :D
Great stuff!
Thanks, Floyd!
Nice multi instrumental song. Just the thing to hear at friday night after a week's work
Glad to hear that! Many thanks for tuning in again! :D
What an amazing music. I like this video very much - great guy!
Happy you like it! And many thanks for the kind words! :)
So elegant as always, thanks for share your nice work!
Thank you very much, happy you like it!
awesome jam my friend!
Thanks a lot, Alonso! :D
Fantastic improv! As always, your emotional sense in music is beautiful. I enjoyed hearing what the MIDI wind instrument can do. I'd love to hear a fretless bass on this song, as well. Well done!
Very happy to hear that, thanks! Yeah, I don't own a fretless bass (yet), but that would sure sound great!
That was lovely, thank you 🙏.. was that moving between variations of the G and D chords ?
Your tone captivates the mind? Why don't you update the channel regularly? Do you have any big plans for it?
I sure do! Lately I've focussed on practicing and improving my skills, but that meant I had less time to film and edit videos. I have continued to make music, though, and if you care to listen to that, you can find it on my Bandcamp page.
I have listened to this Jam dozens of times, and I continue to be fascinated by the beauty that emerges from such simplicity. From you I always confirm that "less is more".
Really nice man. Thats super dope👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻❤️
I love this video so much! Really amazing improv, and probably my favourite launchpad video that I've seen so far on YT. Reading through the comments section on this video and others sent me down an isomorphic keyboard rabbit hole. I keep coming back to this video trying to figure out what tuning this is, but can't seem to get it quite right. I have seen folks use alternating C and C♯ whole tone scales, but that doesn't seem to match up with the positioning of your root notes. I also tried to emulate part of an harpeji layout, but that is difficult given that the length of the harpeji rows is larger than 8. You mentioned in one of the comments that rows are three semitones apart, and that also didn't align with either of the layouts I had encountered. Unfortunately, most other tiling layouts are hexagonal, and so not super easily adaptable to an 8x8 grid, although I'm sure that can be done if certain concessions are made. Any additional info would be so super appreciated. Thanks so much for the lovely video in any case!
Thanks a lot for the kind words! Ha, happy to hear this inspired you to learn more about 2D keyboards! :D The note arrangement here isn't actually a true isomorphic layout, hence why you had trouble figuring it out. The layout is diatonic, not chromatic: Moving left and right, the notes are one scale tone apart. Moving up and down, they are three scale tones apart. Does that clear things up?
Top top good !
Such a nice tune...I can see this being used as a soundtrack!
That's nice to hear, thanks a lot!
That's Good
Thank you!
