  • Mystery solved. Thanks to Karsto for finding out that load warping into Oblivion gates can cause unusual behavior, which eventually lead to us discovering this.

    Oh god this helps, I was planning to do dark brotherhood and thieves guild first bc I was having fun using the Gray Cowl in my other save, and I know getting alot of infamy will get me in trouble. Thanks

    On a more serious note this kinda breaks the whole "100% completion fame" conundrum wide open.
    First it was a case of deciding between default max fame and +7. Now we can have infinite... Not sure how we should approach this.

      Fame ultimately feels too important to remove from the requirements at this point. With things like the save file tracker we will easily be able to check at the end of a run whether or not a save file obtained the original intended 198 Fame in a worst case scenario. The thing is, the max values of every other stat are their non-glitched maximums so just adjusting the definition to be non-glitched maximums would retain the integrity of the category. 100% is focused on audience entertainment currently, less so competition since it isnt short enough yet, and an audience typically expects 100% runs to show them everything that they would normally expect to be completed in a game, so super obscure glitched objectives are not on an audience's radar anyway. Just my opinion though, community input will further shape how we handle this.

      @@PRCLive I think this is the best course. Require the 198 intended fame, exclude extra fame gotten from these glitches. Keeps the spirit of the run in every meaningful way, and even if the run gets to the point where it is competitive, requiring the fame from legitimate sources instead of just spamming it from this gate would be better for competition anyway (IMO of course)

      @@PRCLive Personally I think this is pretty cut and dried. The gameplay of the 100% speedrun is obviously a glitchy hellscape- that's what speedrunning is. But the stats page, the metric by which the run is judged 100% complete has never been glitched. The values are legitimate even if the means to arrive at those values were not. 198 fame is what the game intends the cap to be, so that should be the goal.

      @@alecpalmer1538 Well said, I agree. This is likely going to be the route we go, just want to give people of differing opinion a chance to bring up counterarguments the other way for a bit before we commit to anything.

I feel one of the things that makes this project so special compared to some other speedruns is how much (and how well) you and the rest of the team interact with the community. I feel strongly about this particular fame question, but you're absolutely right, this is a community effort and everyone should have a say.

    Is there a way to leave heaven oblivion once you have acquired enough sigil stones/fame to your liking?

      Oh yeah I should have mentioned that, you can load warp out just as you did to get in.

      Personally I think maximum non-glitched fame should still be a requirement.

      @@alecpalmer1538 So should reading every book be mandatory, but because the game doesn’t have an accurate way to measure what books have been read, it isn’t required for 100% completion

      This is certainly going to be something that warrants further discussion, but short answer no, we are likely going with some sort of "max all practically finite statistics based on their non-glitched maximums" like the breath of the wild community had to do when faced with a similar issue.

    Does this alter the oblivion gates closed stat? Or is that still fixed?

      This specific exploit does not. However, if you specifically load warp back into the bruma gate to close it, you will get a second gate closed off of it (for some reason the instance of the gate inside of the oblivion realm gets closed), meaning that 61 gates would be the most you can get if you go by glitched maximums. We likely wont be including this extra gate if we operate under the same "non-glitches maximums" logic that the community seems to be leaning towards.

      @@PRCLive So does that mean that quickloading is not allowed inside of any oblivion gate? Or does it even work with the different tower layouts in each random oblivion layout? Did any gate other than the bruma gate let you close it more than once?

      @@dinotraker We tested all of the gate layouts and Bruma was the only one that behaved that way, absolutely no idea why. The only rule we really have to place is that you can use loadwarping and whatnot within oblivion gates, you just can't be inside of a "fake gate" which is when you loadwarp back into a layout you already closed. That is something very hard to accidentally do so that should be a very easy rule to enforce.

    I could be wrong, but going through the door and coming back should fix that visual glitch. I was messing around trying to find a similar way to get infinite sigils, and while I didn't have the sigil stuck in place like in the video, the fog effect was removed.

    So this raises an interesting issue: Are 100% Oblivion runs going to be divided up into glitchless and with glitches categories? Because this is now going to open a can of worms where by breaking what constitutes 100% is the big thing to look into. Maybe someone will discover a means of duping nirnroot or maybe access the broken map markers for two other wilderness camps which UOP eventually fixed.

      I'm certainly open to the idea of category variations of 100% (regular, glitched maximums, DLC regular, DLC glitched maximums) since oblivion likely has more super obscure things like this that could discovered down the road.
