My father listened to Hawkwind from the start. He followed this band from the the late 60s to last sunday where he died from a heart attack, he was at there events from like 12-14 years old. he was 56 when he passes. I`m here looking for songs to be played at his funeral. He was a die hard Hawkwind fan. Thank you Hawkwind for being a huge part of his life, You will struggle to find a bigger fan. I`m 27 years old and he took me to a gig in Aldershot when i was 19 and i must admit they pissed all over todays music... I loved it! Space is deep is my favourite song and hurry on Sundown. Long live Hawkwind, Long live Dave Brock, and long live my fathers legacy.
Thanks for sharing your story - your father died too young but I am convinced that his love for Hawkwind gave him some substantial value for his life. Respect that you honor your father's legacy :-)
One of the greatest songs ever written by hawkwind, the changes in this song the middle part is as good as it gets how many different instruments can you hear masters of space rock
When the tune steps up a gear .. the Saturn 5 takes off. (Burning as much fuel in 1/10 as a second as Lindbergh used to cross the Atlantic. There's inflation for you ..)
I've loved Hawkwind since I first heard them in the mid 70s......I'm so lucky to have seen them many times - I'm an old fart nearly 60 now....but I have a massive Quad hifi with Monitor Audio speakers and blast Space is Deep across the Surrey Downs whilst wankered on Punk IPA....

It does not feel, it does not die Space is neither truth nor lie Into the void we have to travel To find the clue which will unravel Is this the reason, deep in our minds? "Is this the reason, deep in our minds?" -- I believe the answer is YES!! If we would just start to learn of ourselves, we will find internal and eternal wealth!!
Love your passion to provide good music. This takes me back to when I took up with a "convoy" girl back in ' 81/82..., black micro dots ..... I met God that night only I couldn't remember what wisdom he imparted.... To Angie, wherever u are , what a week....
I'm Freshly 18 I've been a die hard fan since i was 17 and i saw them in 2017 in the into the woods gig with my dad who has loved Hawkwind since around the same age. Incredible band and modern music doesn't come close to what Hawkwind did in the early space ritual period. God bless Hawkwind!
That bit where the bass-led riff comes in (at 3.29 on this video to be exact!) is just about the best Hawkwind moment of all IMHO. Remember it at the Shepherd's Bush Space Ritual show couple of years ago - hairs stood up on my neck like spines on a porcupine!
The best band ever..end ...so much diversity and choice from different decades..and still travelling effortly through time ..this is your captain speaking. Your captain is dead captain is dead
This was the album that my brother and I discovered Hawkwind with. Summer, 1976. He'd bought an old Ford 1/2-ton pickup in North Bay and drove it back down to Toronto. This tape was left in the 8-track player by the previous owner. We'd never heard anything quite like it before. We were blown away. Been following Hawkwind ever since.
Wow! 'Doremi Fasol Latido' on 8-Track tape, I recall the sound from those things on a decent stack were excellent, must have been a great trip back home, nice story, thanks for sharing it.
1978. My boyfriend and I lying stretched out in his back bedroom getting mind blattered to this song. When we open the door, his dad is standing there and he says to my boyfriend :"I hope you haven't got her pregnant". OMG I had to scurry down the stairs red faced. I have many great Hawkwind memories, but that was an awkward one!
The best space rock song of all (must've influenced Spacemen 3 in some way, you'd think). Perfect video for this great piece of music that makes for a powerful overall experience.
peter kember was definately influenced by dave brock .. my friend kate hummel has written a song about jason pierce of spacemen 3 .. this is it th-cam.com/video/lw6eIjlr3KU/w-d-xo.html
If you're a first time listener, I would recommend you hear... Warrior On The Edge Of Time (1975) Quark, Strangeness And Charm (1977) Levitation (1980) Sonic Attack (1981) Church Of Hawkwind (1982) They should be enough to get you hooked. Then just wiki the band for a full discography and start from the beginning.
Wow,great memories,i remember seeing them live in the mid 80s,in the Convoy field at Glastonbury, when Glastonbury was still real. One of the better acid trips.
Awesome drum fills on this track by Simon King, and it's gotta be my favorite component of the entire piece. Definitely propels the music far and beyond what the early '70s was providing at the time in terms of power and precision. 👺✨🗡👺
To start anybody out on this phenomenal band, I would recommend the albums 'Levitation', 'Warrior On The Edge Of Time', 'Quark, Strangeness And Charm' 'Doremi Fasol Latido' & 'Space Ritual'. These should be enough to make any Hawkwind novice want to hear more, and there's plenty of it believe me.
My All Time favourite group/band.. to me there's no equal, in sheer depth and relevance.. Space is Us..thanku Dave, thankyou Nik thankyou Del thankyou Mick thankyou Dik..Lemmy and all the others who've flown with Hawkwind!
It’s 2024 and I just booked a ticket to see them again!! Crazy to think this was released just years after the moon landing. Go book the live ticket they have still got it!!!!
the band that says we wish you were here talking about how everyone should be as wealthy as them , then charge $190 for the cheapest seats in the house. while hawkwind is doing $10 shows and actually speaking to people at the shows bringing the band to an equal as the listeners not above like floyd does . if they really wished we were there would they not hold a lottery or something fill the jet one time less and invite someone to check out the race cars ? why do they have a million dollar race car when they are trying to say that being greedy is bad ????

The first time I was actually got out of my bed and plonked into a chair in front of a b & w television- ( real working class folk in England didn’t get colour till 1982 ) in the middle of the night was as a 5 yr old to see the flickering images of the Apollo 11 Mission in 1969. . Kids - Mars Missions were soon achieved by the mid 1980s and by 1999 there was a massive base on the moon. Then in 2008 they forgot how to get more than 435 miles from the Earths’ Surface for some reason. Life is like this 😀🏴😇❤️
That was exactly my experience too. Our TV was the size of a wardrobe, but the screen was about the same size as a tea saucer. My granny kept insisting we switched it off " for a rest " after an hour or so in case it caught fire :-))) I thought I'd get flying cars, but all I got was bullshit instead
Good to hear that Joe - I liked their earlier albums more than the later ones - Bob Calvert and Dave Brock were a great team...though to my mind they sort of lost the plot after his passing...sad as it is I still like to listen to those early recordings...its great rock music...some sound even better today LOL ie quality classics. My all time favorite 'live' album is the double one entitled 'A Space Ritual'..which is all about a journey into Space and exploring other worlds
Sebastian Mestre that is true - is just a matter of time before work begins on deep space travel and taking good music with them is part of the fuel charge

The Hawkwind will never be repeated and are another exceptional one of of the 70's (in general - although started in the 60's) I think you will find they are the longest performing band of all time!
Wonderful blend of great acoustic sounds and the originality that Hawkwind gave to electronic pulses, atmosphere and mood. A great piece of song writing. This song was never created so well live : it does need the acoustic tone. I think this is Dettmar's legacy.
Hey, nice work rp61. Very cool indeed -captures the tone and sense of exploration along with the social change in the early 70s the band was, well, defying. I've loved Hawkwind since I was 15 -for those out there who are just discovering or not quite sure where to find their music, it's there -remember a must-have like "The Space Ritual," the brilliant double live album, was actually in the the top 40 way back then. The single "Silver Machine," which made the top 10, funded that tour.
This video and tune by Hawk~wind remains as untouched as the surface of the Moon after '72. Somehow, considering the direction the 21st Century has taken, this seems appropriate to me. . . And, oh, thanks for the reload!!
A sound that defined an era hippies, freak outs hairies, choppers grass parties every wk end all gone blowing in the wind a memory reduced to a whisper in the clatter of today's soul less world.
Stonehenge'82...Ali Ali ! crazy chillum in a Bedford SB behind main stage, Music loud and someone falls through sky-light from roof and I laughed so hard til my temples vibrated me up up and away and around the edge of the known universe. Funny = D
Fuck. A LOT of PURE BRILLIANCE going on in here. Is everything we are hearing here ( production wise) is from ' 72? Sounds very future forward, something a Prodigy fan would love.
Yes! Childhood memories! No matter WHAT people say about our American cousins, the Apollo program stands out forever. I'll never forget, and we have the sonic legacy of Hawkwind to celebrate Humanity's triumphs too. Humans can be Cool.
If you’re still listening to this masterpiece just know you have an amazing taste in music

brilliant video. Really encapsulates the music superbly well.
this is hands-down one of the best music videos I’ve ever seen
I used to sit around the stereo getting stoned and listening to these guys...That was when they first started.. I still do!!
Really neat video. Song is pretty good, too. Love the instrumentals at the end.
The Most Awesome Song in the History of Mankind!
Far Out Crazy Music & I ❤️’s It.!!
Stil does it 50 years on !!!
What a perfect song about space. You can really hear the reverence and wonder.
Still fucking awesome after all this time! Keep rocking Dave!
Summer, Hawkwind, Camping under the stars, groovin'...happy daze...
2:25. You can hear the noise of the opening of the amplifier. So cool!!!
Thanks for posting this 👏👏👏
Yes! Childhood memories! No matter WHAT people say about our American cousins, the Apollo program stands out forever. I'll never forget, and we have the sonic legacy of Hawkwind to celebrate Humanity's triumphs too. Humans can be Cool.
