Divinity 2: Ego Draconis is my all time favorite game. And I have played lots of games, especially RPGs. I'm probably biased because it was a big part of my childhood, as I had very little parental influence and few friends, but it made part of who I am today, my humour and my character. I can't describe with words what it meant, and still means to me a decade later, it's that good. The characters are fantastic, the world is gorgeous and gripping, the dialogues are perfectly voiced and the script is extremely well structured. The RPG aspect for leveling and progression of your character are very creative, some might say cliche, but that's because this is one of the games that started the "cliche" along with Dragon Age Origins, Elder Scrolls and Dark Souls. Be careful though, you'll feel extremely sad when the game is over (a good 80 hours of pure rpg gameplay) because you'll form a strong emotional bond to it, I remember cried the first time I finished it and I almost do so every time I play it again. I REALLY REALLY would love that this game became more well known, so other people would buy it and Larian did a Divinity 3. I've been expecting for years and then abandoned the idea because of their new turn based RPG niche's success. Thank you Click4Gameplay for showcasing the game, it made me very happy seeing that this game is still being played to this day or is even remotely relevant.

Yeah I wish there was another made in this vein...I am not found of too many open world, 3rd person RPGs but these really checked a lot of the boxes off I love. While both Original Sin and the original Divine Divinity are nice, the isometric and totally PC RPG feel are definitely a different vibe from this, to me at least.
Right like if you look at the reviews and sales at the time divinity 2 did not do bad at all. On steam it has a very positive review and a lot of purchases not to mention like everyone i knew into rpgs when it came out played it on console.
One of my all-time-favourites, I've sunk so many hours in that game. I love the dragon form and the seemless switching between human and dragon, the combat style, the character progression, the many eastereggs and the soundtrack... To me the game creates a lot of doomsday-vibes at certain points in the story. It also rewards you for exploring and the loot you find is mostly excellent. I remember though in my first playthrough I killed too many bunnies in the early game... Played on normal difficulty and it was relaxing. The DLC was imo a bit more boring. Plus I don't like being restricted to certain aereas. All in all, it's great to see that the game still is appreciated, to me it was always a hidden treasure.
I want to say I feel your pain. I was a child when I got my hands on Divinity 2 and to this day I wince when I hear the sound of a bunny dying, even though I'm an adult by now. That fucking monty python reference scarred me
I'm so glad someone finally made a video to do this game justice. I was always saddened that any search for it would just bring up OS2. Hell, I even considered making a video on it myself. As a teen, I got this game on 360 digital for like $4 and it was all I played for a whole week in the summer of 2013, unlocking every achievement in just that short amount of time. The gameplay, the lack of handholding, and the music are just so good and it's a shame more people haven't experienced it. I listened to the soundtrack a lot when I was doing schoolwork in college. RIP Kirill Pokrovsky. A short anecdote: there was a physical copy of DKS for 360 at my local Walmart. It was literally locked up in the case for over a year and no one bought it. So one day, even though I already had it digital, I went ahead a bought it to give it a good home. It came with a soundtrack CD too. Very cool.
Aaaah you brought back my childhood. I remember being the only one who knew the game (here in austria) and years later, I realized its from Larian, my now, fav Studio! :D
I love the Divinity series. Every game tried something new. They all had a quirky sense of humor. Larian is a great studio when i see they are doing a project i automatically get more hopeful it will turn out good.
I originally played this on the Xbox and loved it, it reminded me of Fable & Overlord mixed with Elder Scrolls. I only missed out on 2 achievements, the bunny one and one on the island which I didn't do bcoz I thought it would progress the story {it didn't}. I hated how after certain points it would lock you out of previous areas though.
@@belkacemseffari7404And, if you did miss out on a quest then you must continue and return in another playthrough. My brain gets distracted easily so things like this either make me do what you suggested or just push through and be more thorough next area
My short opinion: Larian was a very small studio at the time and for being such a small crew they took a huge step with Divinity 2 and even if a lot of it definitely doesn't come close to being a AAA game, I always found the game exciting and thrilling enough that I still count it as one of the best games I've played. This is probably also because there are so many moments and quests in the game that I remember fondly, like the chicken action mentioned in the review. With the add-on Larian have even taken it up a notch; you can definitely tell that they tried to get more out of the game for the add-on, both graphically and in terms of the quests. I've played all the Divinity games so far and for someone like me, whose first games were Gothic, Two Worlds and Elder Scrolls Morrowind, Divinity 2 is a game that fits very well into this series of good RPGs.
Man that game was a banger from start to finish. It surprised me that it kinda went under the radar. Ego Draconis had everything and more I wanted as a kid. Sad there wasnt more!
I've played this one, its good - I specced purely into magic missiles and just spammed that as my only skill. I was a 1 man artillery unit and it was awesome.
So glad you made this video! I absolutely LOVED this game. I talked 3 friends into getting it. 1 liked it and the other 2 hated it. I just couldnt see how anyone would hate that game. I told them that it starts slow but truly shines once you have your Dragon form. They didnt play long enough for that unfortunately. The friend who DID like the game played it all the way through and enjoyed it as much as I did. I played the Director's Cut.
what an epic game. played it a bunch as a kid, looking back on it now as i play BG3. larian has always been something special. i might remake my div2 character on my second playthrough, just to bask in nostalgia
I've been playing this game at work during the weekends and it's been a blast so far. I played it way back in 2014 (but then my computer died and I did not feel like starting over back then) glad to be playing it again!
I've literally never mindread due to xp point cost, since it felt so counterintuitive and wrong to lose limited xp points for some fluff, found out how much i've missed out on just now 2 years after completing the game.
Battletower: snatches people from the world and binds them to you in eternal slavery (and kills those you do not choose) Me: I do not feel like a good guy anymore.
THANKS for this video! I've been trying to "lure" friends and people on the internet to play this this game for so long. It's one of my favorite games of all time. More people need to know about it, and only we can hope that Larian will develop an Action-RPG again in the future.
Nice video - and it came up on my feed at the right time... I just began playing this game. I'd be happy if Larian's next project was an evolved version of a game similar to this, featuring all of the wonderful progress the studio has made.
CONTINUED: The interesting things is, Ego Draconis is supposed to be the latest in the timeline of Divinity lore. It supposed to take place after the events in Original Sin II & Beyond Divinity. If you look up the chronological order of the games, all the games released in a mixed up order. The proper order has 2 conflicting sources, but this is from Larian: *1. Divinity: Dragon Commander. 2. Divinity Original Sin. 3. Divine Divinity. 4. Divinity Original Sin II. 5. Beyond Divinity. 6. Divinity 2: Ego Draconis, then Flames...*
I want to ask something. What are your expectations from the sequel game of Divinity series? Which timeline would you like story to happen? You want isometric sequel or sequel like Divinity 2:Ego Draconis?
Really sad that the publisher rush them and they could not finish the game, they had so much plan they had like 24 maps to explore and all the races of the world to see and a couple of cities and other game mechanics that were pretty much done but sadly they had to scrap it all. i have play so many times that I know everything about it by memory and still really fun to replay it.
8:00 - YES! That was one of my biggest gripes with the game. Unsheathing your weapons takes precious time that can allow enemies to rape your HP. Despite the Dragon Terror Patrol being one of the funniest and most memorable moment for me in the game, it took me a godly long time to pass that boss fight.
I played Divine Divinity years ago and fell in love with the universe and especially the music. Beyond Divinity was...not very good. But Divinity 2 I very much enjoyed.
A lot of people say games like witcher 3 and elden ring are underrated because they're deserve even more Preise. This game is actually underrated. I love This game ans Noone seems to have heard of it
I remember when the game came out like it was today. Man I was so mad that no one heard about this game. The graphic was amazing back then, animations were great, RPG systems were good plus you could morph in to the dragon, which was (and is?) super cool.
The ending feeling bad because you've been tricked, must've been either poorly done or personal judgement, thinking how Bioshock's ending twist is hailed as one of the best and most clever endings ever. Shame that it didn't manage to capture you (I haven't played this!) but I appreciate them for the effort!
It was a rushed ending because Larian ran out of money and the publisher effectively screwed them over. This game and how they were treated was effectively what convinced them to separate from big publishers altogether and go independent, which is why they needed kickstarter for DOS and DOS2. Luckily those games were successful enough that Larian is now a proud independent game studio that doesn't have to rely on publishers to fund their games any more.
I really enjoyed this game, but only on xbox 360... I only got to just after "the change" then my box blew up with red light and I never went back. Think I'll try again, this time on PC. Great game.... really stuck in my mind even all these years later.
It was a good game back in a days. I totally loved Mind read option and possibilities that it brought. And I remember this game was REALLY hard...If you went for a useless build your pretty much done.
Thanks for talking about this game, it really deserves it. Heh, I remember when I walked into one of those flying demonic castles which I was supposed to clear near the ending of vanilla game, but I entered it very early on. With much effort I cleared it, and left it so overleveled that I felt like an absolute badass for the rest of the game xD
Kirill Pokrovsky's music is still one of the best produced for video games. In future projects they, unfortunately, did not come close to the level of Divinity2 music
yea, not enough cool melodies. not as unique and experimental. And the main melody being EVERYWHERE, mostly unchanged, drives me unironically insane. worms in my skull. pun not intended.
you should play "Dragon Knight Saga", not just "Ego Draconis", saga edition have "Flames of Vengeance" expansion, which starts literally after "Ego Draconis", plus balance patch and bug fixes
About difficulty, once you understant that xp is the most valuable ressource, the game becomes super easy. As soon as you have a couple level above enemies you destroy them, even bosses. In nightmare, you should try to get the most xp out of every quest, past the first bit of the game you can outlevel any encounters. You can always spam magic missiles behind a rock and end with a fatality (2 of best spells in the game) if you struggle. Just don't turn into a dragon in the middle of a flying fortress.
Help me, I started a side quest about a slumbering god that turned out to be a dead dragon in some catacomebs. When I got out of there 3 Dragonslayers apeared and the fight was bloody misserable! One of them had a fireball spell, that when it hit me killed me. I am 10+ lvl higher that these guys. Oh, and that spell has splash.
Bro I remember this game, flying around as a dragon was so fucking awesome! Many cried about the ending, but to me it didn't make any difference since I had a great time leading up to that point.
such a wonderful game honestly. up there with dragons dogma and kingdoms of amalur with how underrated it is. rpg games will always be my favorite, and this is a wonderful example of why. i played dragon knight saga on console i think, and actually do have the developers cut sitting in my steam library just waiting for the day i get to dust it off once again. itll be a blast to replay im sure. thanks for this.
For those who have trouble playing on nightmare, remember that monster xp gains decrease the higher your level, so make sure to first clear the mobs before finishing all the quests. Also early on the bonuses from strength and the other two damage boosting stats are really low and percentage based, so go into vitality and spirit for the first few levels. And use armour and stats increase potions, they are pretty useful. And your pet has more health than you so let it tank like a boss
back when i was 14 i bought that game on my xbox 360, i played this game to the point i am g in this game, i had so many runs in different fighting style, the warrior deals the most dmg in this game, i one shoted ygerna at the end of the game and finished it in seconds in the most difficult gamemode, this game provided me with great joy, a masterpiece in his own genre, truly unforgettable
divinity 2 looks orange by default because the color temperature is incorrect, if you use your monitor, or reshade, or any color tool that can handle warm/cool. Just drag the slider like 20% toward the blue range and watch how ALL this games colors become revealed
its so sad that those of us that know how much was cut from this game for one reason or another like the whole conquest mode that was controlled from the tower if they ever went back and re did the game with todays tech and computing power i think they could make the game they wanted to make back then
I used to play this game a shit ton with my dad when I was like 7 back when it came out. Me and my dad both played together and sometimes he would watch me and sometimes I would watch him. It is some of the best game memories I have ever had and I am so sad that this game is not more well known..
One important feature of the dragon tower that you didn't mention is the ability to increase the max level of your perks, which can make them very powerful. I played through this game a few times, but never finished the DLC. Exploring the city and the new, often strange quests felt too disconnected to me and was not what I wanted to do at that "epic" level play.
One magnificent game. The section where you become a dragon and can fly into the sky and back down towards the enemy sections - technically a real achievement for the time.
Ego Draconis is one of my favorite game. you can fly around the whole world with yr dragon form. One of the big feature is fall experience is so good that you can literally feel your balls are itching when u do that... lol
it pisses me off when i look up divinity 2 and see original sin 2. this game was my first rpg and deserves better (edit) seriously i looked up if there would be a divinity 3 and all i found was divinity original sin 3. why can't we have a divinity 3
Amazing game! I have so many hours of fun with the original one and the expansion too. So beautiful and have such an addictive gameplay. This game is the definition of hidden gem! And the music is so good man. I will always remember divine divinity and divinity 2 Menu OST. Sometimes i come to youtube and just listen to both of them.
I played this game for over a decade and still discover new stuff every playthrough, did last time I found on sentinel island if you take a leap of faith behing sassan's tomb there is a dungeon with two sisters fighting
I would be (much more) happy (happier) if Larian Studios would make a real Divine Divinity / Beyond Divinity sequel. Not only from storyline or so, but with the original charme and atmosphere, graphic style (with contemporary graphic quality) and the same or at least very similar gameplay (mechanics). Every other Divinity game after Beyond Divinity felt so different, that i would never ever haved used any reference in the name to the original Divine Divinity / Beyond Divinity and sold them as completely new / other games.
This game is so underrated and it definitely deserves a second chance, it was very entertaining to play. My only criticism was the mechanics of the game, they weren’t terrible but they could definitely used some work.
The soundtrack in this game is one of the best EVER. Particularly the main theme: th-cam.com/video/gfhmQdI14go/w-d-xo.html As well as: Festival of Immortals: th-cam.com/video/3kiaQyYq3yg/w-d-xo.html Fly, Dragon, Fly: th-cam.com/video/bb7RDY_WF2M/w-d-xo.html
I know this game isn't the best but it's the first game like this I ever played not Skyrim I was maybe 7 behind the computer playing this the farthest I ever got was the dragon it truly is a masterpiece from what I'm seeing and remembering of it's time and the music the memories just flood in of my dad teaching me how to play
My first and biggest experience Action RPG beside Dragongard II when i got my first pc game switch from PS2 gamer. I was amazed how big the world design and how complex the mechanic between you turn into dragon and human.
Good video on a very overlooked game. At the end you said the PC version has a fixed camera angle but this isn't true. You can zoom in by moving the mouse upwards and zoom out by moving the mouse downward. You can have it look exactly like the console version if you zoom all the way in.
This game is such a hidden gem. Unfortunately, it's kind of nightmare to get running smoothly on modern hardware. No matter what I do, I get constant microstutters :(
I had the same, spent two hours fixing it, but solution for me was to put a fps limit (something like 80) with nvidia control panel, it fixed it for me and game was smooth until the End.
@@arik2216 it probably ran fine back then. Unfortunately it doesn’t play nice with modern hardware, and has pretty bad microstutter. Sometimes that can happen with old games
Technical problems? Just got done doing a "100%" playthrough and outside of code bugs in the actual game itself and those loading screen crashes every now and then, the performance was fine.
I played the Demo For this game back in 2009. I was excited, but then I got to the cut scenes and felt the lip-syncing was terrible and voice acting was weak. I was spoiled by Dragon Age. Several years later when the Dragon Knight Saga came out, I bought it discounted and fell in love with the game. I'm glad I gave it a second chance.
heck yeah! i personally finished this game this summer, it was fun and sometimes too frustrating cause of backtracking and some missed pointes like crushed ship on the tree and how you can finish the side quest if you don't remember all quest lines and npc dialogue, but it was really fun. It's a shame that dlc was dull and boring, only 1 location, a lot of pretty stupid side quests (yeah, easter eggs and all were fun, but not so fun). I think modern games made me too soft cause of tracking marks and all journal logs, but it was a great experience, i think

Bought the Developer's Cut version on Steam sale a year ago and enjoyed it. Clocked 117 hours, completed everything. Recommended.
Holy cow man, it's been like a decade since I last played this. Soundtrack is still a banger. RIP Kirill Pokrovsky.
I love the Divinity series. Every game tried something new. They all had a quirky sense of humor. Larian is a great studio when i see they are doing a project i automatically get more hopeful it will turn out good.
Bro one of my favorite games of all time. Definitely needs a remaster or remake.
Remake would be awesome
I originally played this on the Xbox and loved it, it reminded me of Fable & Overlord mixed with Elder Scrolls.
I only missed out on 2 achievements, the bunny one and one on the island which I didn't do bcoz I thought it would progress the story {it didn't}. I hated how after certain points it would lock you out of previous areas though.
i loved that , it makes you do every quest before going to the next part of the map
@@belkacemseffari7404And, if you did miss out on a quest then you must continue and return in another playthrough. My brain gets distracted easily so things like this either make me do what you suggested or just push through and be more thorough next area
Oh man what a blast from the past, i loved this game to death !
My short opinion:
Larian was a very small studio at the time and for being such a small crew they took a huge step with Divinity 2 and even if a lot of it definitely doesn't come close to being a AAA game, I always found the game exciting and thrilling enough that I still count it as one of the best games I've played.
14:50 this voice actor is so amazing
This was probably my first pc game. I remember being blow away by the dragon form. It was so much fun just flying around and wreaking havoc.
I have this in my GOG backlog. I will try it, largely because I think the original Divine Divinity is an incredibly underrated CRPG
I really love this game and I've been playing it again the past few weeks. I was really surprised how well it held up.
Yeah my only complain, the final fight.
Completed the game long ago and now have bought it. Thanks for reigniting some memories!
I've been playing this game at work during the weekends and it's been a blast so far. I played it way back in 2014 (but then my computer died and I did not feel like starting over back then) glad to be playing it again!
Thanks for the video :) I could relive a bit of my childhood again.
I've literally never mindread due to xp point cost, since it felt so counterintuitive and wrong to lose limited xp points for some fluff, found out how much i've missed out on just now 2 years after completing the game.
Battletower: snatches people from the world and binds them to you in eternal slavery (and kills those you do not choose)
Me: I do not feel like a good guy anymore.
I bought a xbox360 quite a few years ago. Remember of buying this game on sale for like 5€. Pretty cool game, played it about half way.
Omg, that soundtrack...and all Larian Studios games' soundtrack... they are just spot on...
Been playing this game for a decade, it’s a underrated masterpiece
finally just started and I already agree!
Merry Christmas!!!!
@@randalthor6872 Merry Christmas also, glad your enjoying it
CONTINUED: The interesting things is, Ego Draconis is supposed to be the latest in the timeline of Divinity lore.
I’m old enough to have played all the Larian games at time of release, never been disappointed when it came to ‘fun’.
Wow really ?
But Divinity 2 I very much enjoyed.
this is my all time favorite game, it is a gem and i hadent play anything like it to this day
i know the story backandforth
everyone can say what they want about this game, but the soundtrack? one of the best soundtracks in all of gaming
This is one of my favorite Divinity titles, and one of my all-around games, period. Thanks for giving it some well-deserved love!
I had so much fun playing this game back in the day I still think about it sometimes and think to myself "damn that was a good game" 😁
A lot of people say games like witcher 3 and elden ring are underrated because they're deserve even more Preise. This game is actually underrated. I love This game ans Noone seems to have heard of it
Don't be surprised.I've seen people saying "skyrim is very underrated"))
@@muvigamo2129 my autocorrect was out of control on this comment lol
I remember when the game came out like it was today. Man I was so mad that no one heard about this game. The graphic was amazing back then, animations were great, RPG systems were good plus you could morph in to the dragon, which was (and is?) super cool.
This game is a total hidden gem.
It is my alltime Favorit game. I became it when I was 9 and my dad and me played it for like 5 hours a day.
I still remember going to the studio and testing/playing this game and giving feedback to the devs.
The ending feeling bad because you've been tricked, must've been either poorly done or personal judgement, thinking how Bioshock's ending twist is hailed as one of the best and most clever endings ever. Shame that it didn't manage to capture you (I haven't played this!) but I appreciate them for the effort!
Yep! 👍🏻
Divinity 2: Ego draconis was my First Game i bought myself and i really enjoyed IT.
This was my first larian game. I would love to see a conclusion to Damian's story someday.
this was my first Game they mad and I fell in love. It was not super polished but I had so much fun with it
Kirill Pokrovsky's music is still one of the best produced for video games. In future projects they, unfortunately, did not come close to the level of Divinity2 music
yea, not enough cool melodies. not as unique and experimental. And the main melody being EVERYWHERE, mostly unchanged, drives me unironically insane. worms in my skull. pun not intended.
This was the first rpg I ever played and finished as a child, I love it so much
My mind is blown rn, I LOVED this game as a kid. I had no idea this was also by larian.
you should play "Dragon Knight Saga", not just "Ego Draconis", saga edition have "Flames of Vengeance" expansion, which starts literally after "Ego Draconis", plus balance patch and bug fixes
One of the best endings in gaming history ! (despite most hating on it)
About difficulty, once you understant that xp is the most valuable ressource, the game becomes super easy.
First time I played it, Normal difficulty was already a challenge. By now, Nightmare difficulty is actually fun.
Divinity 2 Ego Draconis needs to be “resurrected” because it remains a game worth playing
Probably they are Damian's soldiers. You can do dodge roll for protect yourself or use health potion during battle.
Yeah Kingdoms of Amalur is so tragic. It deserves better.
This was the first game I played from Larian, ah...the nostalgia :)
playing it right now and its a piece of gold
Just drag the slider like 20% toward the blue range and watch how ALL this games colors become revealed
its so sad that those of us that know how much was cut from this game for one reason or another like the whole conquest mode that was controlled from the tower if they ever went back and re did the game with todays tech and computing power i think they could make the game they wanted to make back then
I love retrospective gaming videos. My backlog is long, so sometimes I need a reminder why I put it on my "to-play" list in the first place
I used to play this game a shit ton with my dad when I was like 7 back when it came out. Me and my dad both played together and sometimes he would watch me and sometimes I would watch him. It is some of the best game memories I have ever had and I am so sad that this game is not more well known..
This game is just awesome , worth several play throughs
One important feature of the dragon tower that you didn't mention is the ability to increase the max level of your perks, which can make them very powerful.
I played through this game a few times, but never finished the DLC. Exploring the city and the new, often strange quests felt too disconnected to me and was not what I wanted to do at that "epic" level play.
One magnificent game. The section where you become a dragon and can fly into the sky and back down towards the enemy sections - technically a real achievement for the time.
Ego Draconis is one of my favorite game. you can fly around the whole world with yr dragon form. One of the big feature is fall experience is so good that you can literally feel your balls are itching when u do that... lol
That game was so good to me that I bought Ego Draconis and Dragon Knight Saga separately. Finished both and it was worth it. Beware of Belagar.
it pisses me off when i look up divinity 2 and see original sin 2. this game was my first rpg and deserves better
(edit) seriously i looked up if there would be a divinity 3 and all i found was divinity original sin 3. why can't we have a divinity 3
Lovin it, so much idea in only one game.
I played this game for over a decade and still discover new stuff every playthrough, did last time I found on sentinel island if you take a leap of faith behing sassan's tomb there is a dungeon with two sisters fighting
the first village theme invokes such a strong feeling of nostalgia for me, gonna have to add this to my library!!!
Its an awesome game, i replayed it a few months ago and enjoyed it immensely, one of the best action rpgs, totally recommended.
I remember this game. I became a dragon at one point and was flying around
After 3 games in topdown view i hope they go back to make one more third person game.
The soundtrack in this game is one of the best EVER. Particularly the main theme: th-cam.com/video/gfhmQdI14go/w-d-xo.html
As well as:
Festival of Immortals: th-cam.com/video/3kiaQyYq3yg/w-d-xo.html
Fly, Dragon, Fly: th-cam.com/video/bb7RDY_WF2M/w-d-xo.html
I really like the soundtrack as well, this one (they are actually 2 melodies) is my favorite:
th-cam.com/video/ZVb_ZcwqKmM/w-d-xo.html
Some of the tracks were re-used in DOS1, this is why a lot of the music in this video sounds familiar to me.
The skeleton with an existential crisis about his existence is the funniest quest, but there are a lot of hilarious quests.
I fucking love this game! One of my favorite hidden gems!!
(because in game options vsync and fps slider are not working well so you need external program)
What ? I remember i played on pentium iv and gt 9600 256 mb 😂
I don't remember the performance was so bad.
This game is amazing let's create a small community and mod this game!
heck yeah! i personally finished this game this summer, it was fun and sometimes too frustrating cause of backtracking and some missed pointes like crushed ship on the tree and how you can finish the side quest if you don't remember all quest lines and npc dialogue, but it was really fun. It's a shame that dlc was dull and boring, only 1 location, a lot of pretty stupid side quests (yeah, easter eggs and all were fun, but not so fun). I think modern games made me too soft cause of tracking marks and all journal logs, but it was a great experience, i think
It's such a shame there aren't many other games that let you turn into a dragon...
